Major Problem - Ipods wont sync

Okay there is kind of a lot here so bear with me. I own two IPod Touches andneither one of them is syncing with ITunes. One is a first or second generationand the other is a brand new 4th generation. I am running windows 7 64 bit. Windows7, iTunes, and the iPod touches are all fully up to date. The IPods aredetected by windows and appear in "my computer." iTunes takes alittle time then pops up with the message "iTunes cannot read the contentsof the iPod "_____". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences andclick Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings." normally at thispoint the iPod is not visible in the menu on the left to follow theseinstructions. Once in a while though, the iPod will appear and the Restoreoption does become available, on these rare occasions I get an unknown errormessage (1602 or 1621) and the restore fails.
I tried completely removing all of iTunes and related programs thenreinstalling with no joy. That tells me that there is no problem with iTunesitself. The fact that both iPods have the same problem suggests that it is notthe iPods either. I have tried plugging into every USBport with every combination of chords and iPods with no luck. The 4th gen is literallyhours out of the packaging.  There must be some kind of recent windowsupdate or something that has made the iPods incompatible. I tried calling appletech support and they said (after a whole slew of trouble shooting) that whateverthe issue is it is out of their scope.
I have looked all over the place and haven’t found asolution that works yet. I greatly appreciate any assistance you guys can offer.

Yeah, this is a little silly. The problem is with the USB ports somehow.  One of the itunes updates made the USB ports not work on some computers. I am not sure what types of computers are affected, but the way I got my iPods out of their recovery loops was to change around USB ports. Since my origional problem, every time I have had  to update the software on my ipod I got stuck in recovery loop again. to get out of the loop I just had to trail and error all my usb ports until it finally works. I have had more luck with my external USB hub than the ports built into my computer.
I have a top of the line Toshiba Qosmio x505. I hope this helps!

  • HELP! iPod wont sync!! (diff problem 2 others..)

hi, i have an 80g ipod video (2006).
i just purchased a tone of new songs and the piece of crap wont sync them. unlike the other similar threads i don't get any messages or error messages etc. for me, it syncs as normal but does not put the new songs onto the ipod! i also deleted a play list and it doesn't seem to be updating that either!!
someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEE help me!!! i really need to fix this as i am going away next week and would like to listen to NEW songs on my trip!!! lol

Have you tried restoring your iPod? Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • My ipod wont sync all my music/files, comes up with an error now

    HI there!
My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!

I have restored it many times, uninstalled and installed itunes a few times too, and nothing
Also when i plug my ipod in it comes up on my laptop screen that i should scan and fix my ipod as files on there that arent right?!
It's very frustrating and Im hoping someone can help me soon,
    Kelly

My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!
Let's start with the basic: What changed between the last time it worked and nopw? Did you update your iTunes to a newer version? Plug in any new USB devices? Change the port to which you connect your iPod? Add any new devices that changed drive letters? Apply any patches? Drop or expose the iPod to temperature extremes?
If we know what changed, we can start to figure out how that change caused this problem.
P.S.: If your answer to "what changed" is what I think it is (i.e., you updated iTunes), then reading this summary post of mine may give you a clue as to the problem.

  • Ipod Wont Sync My Music in itunes

Ok big problem. I have all my music saved onto a 120Gig Western digital Portable Hard drive. i have an 80gig ipod. ive had it for about 5-6 months. i am now having a problem where it wont sync. what happends is that all of my music is in the itunes library. when i try to sync my ipod, none of the music syncs and all of the locations of the original file become lost. when i go into my hard drive and look, all of the files are missing. but when i either unplug the hard drive or restart my comp all of my music is there again. if i try again it does the same thing over and over. any suggestions? t would be appreciated. thanks.

In answer to your last question, no - your iPod is not a goner, but you need to work out what has happened first so that it doesn't happen again. I'm guessing that if you look at "Other" on your iPod you may find it's quite large.
Look on your iPod, go to the Settings menu and choose the About option; on that first display the graphic should show lots of blue (audio), some darker blue (video), some yellow/orange (photos if you have any) and a small amount of orange/red (other). That's the sequence, don't worry if the colours are slightly off or not there. If the last one - other is larger than the audio then that's where your storage has gone!
I still think that your PC has allocated a different letter to the external hard drive compared to when you previously added the music. Then, when the iPod cannot find the music on your PC when synced, it moves the songs to "other". Have you checked to make sure there are no "rogue" drive letters still allocated and have you ruled out the possibility of connecting the hard drive in another sequence when connecting up other USB devices? (As I mentioned in my last post.) Once you have done that, then look in iTunes.
If I understand you correctly, only some of the songs (in iTunes) have an exclamation mark against them, while some do not, is that correct? If so, it means that iTunes cannot find the location of ones with exclamation marks. So look at some of the songs that do not have an exclamation mark and try the *Get info/Where* to find out where iTunes thinks they are. Then check to see if the same drive letter is allocated to the hard drive when you connect it. They should be the same letter, are they?
If not, that's been the problem. If they are the same, try "asking" iTunes to see if it can now find the location of one of the missing tracks. (It's possible of course, that some newer added songs were added after the drive letter changed and this will be a problem, but let's hope not!)
So, what's the situation now? If you think the problem is a changed drive letter, make sure that the correct drive letter is now allocated and then ask iTunes to find the missing songs. (Unfortunately, this might be on a song-by-song basis!)
Once you find the missing songs, (or if you don't you will just have to import them again into iTunes.) and your iTunes is now complete again, it's time to sort out the iPod.
Connect up the iPod and on the iTunes Summary screen, use the Restore function. This will restore your iPod to its factory settings and remove everything from it, thus freeing up the missing storage space. then a fresh Sync will add everything back onto the iPod again. As you can appreciate, all this will take a bit of time, which is why you need to understand what happened so you don't have to go through this again.
Let us know how you get on.
    Good luck,

  • Ipod wont sync

so recently i got my computer reformatted i have 2 hard drives in it one with all my stuff on it and the other is new so i tried to sync my ipod after i reformatted and now it wont sync the songs and video comes up with 2 error messages itunes could not copy(song name) to the ipod (ipod name) because file could not be read or written and the other one say attempting to copy to the Disk (Ipod name) the disk could be read from or written this is new cause before i got it reformatted it would load them up even with the 2 hard drives any one know the problem cause it even affects the songs when i play them on itunes it pauses for a bit the plays it again

Well... this is where it gets weird. She's had an eMachines computer for a few years... gives her trouble with the DVD and CD drives. Still works ok, otherwise. Then I got her the iPod and it works ok for a month or so, until the computer crashes every time she connects the iPod to any of the USB ports. Everything else still works fine in the USB ports but the iPod. Every so often between crashes she can get the iPod to update. Then the computer stops working together.
So she junked the computer and bought a brand new HP (tried to get her to buy a Mac, but she doesn't listen to me.) and the whole computer works fine. She plugs in the iPod and nothing happens. No error messages. Nothing. It's like nothing is plugged in. Won't even charge the battery if it's connected to the computer. I think it's possible that the iPod itself might actually display the "Do not disconnect." but otherwise... there's nothing.
Explain to me the reset and restore... she's done something, but I think it's just the regular reset (laying the iPod flat and pushing different parts of the click wheel.)
(And I don't know her update settings off hand... it should be auto update... but I'm just guessing.)

  • My ipod wont sync - I dont have access privileges

Please can someone help me - I have had my ipod for a few years now and never had problems - now it wont sync with my itunes libary to my ipod as I dont have access privileges for some reason - does anyone know how I can regain my access privileges?

In iTunes, head to Edit -> Preferences and then click the Advanced tab when the new window comes up.  What is the location of your iTunes library on your PC under the Media location?
Once you have that information, you'll want to browse out to that folder.  Once you have found it, right->click on it and choose Properties. When the window comes up, make sure you are under the General tab.  Make sure the folder is not set to Read Only.  Then make sure the change is applied to all subfolders and files.

  • Ipod wont sync music. . .please help

Ok I've had my Ipod since last Christmas and I've tryed plugging it into the computer the last few days and all of a sudden it doesn't sync. It doesn't show that my Ipod is connected when Itunes is up. I can see my Ipod charging but it wont sync my songs. Please someone help me I love my ipod.

Yeah I have the same problem, only I got my iPod just this past June. I keep plugging it into the computer, and it's being recognized by the computer because it's charging, but iTunes isn't seeing it because it won't give me the option to sync it. I tried turning autosync on and off and I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, but it still won't do anything. Can anybody help?

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

I DID NOT check the manually manage videos thing, and i DID click all of them to sync. It is sorta bugging me because i really want to see my glee..:D
but the weird things is, my songs and apps that i bought from my ipod WILL sync back. But it is just my tv shows... x(
    PLEASE help!!!!!!!!!!
if there is anything else you need to know to help me, please tell!
    thanks,

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.
