Major Problems, Plase help

I was just given an Ipod mini yesterday and today I want to throw it out the window. I keep having problem after problem. I use a Dell 4600 w/XP. Last night I installed everything properly and was even able to put a lot of songs on. The problems began today. Here are some of my issues:
1) Computer does not recognize Ipod when attached. It is getting power, but nothing else.
2) The Ipod itself seems to have a mind of its own. It is getting stuck on songs, freezes up, or doesnt work at all.
3) Computer freezes when Ipod attached.
I have tried everything. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the softoware. I have reset the pod countless times. There does not seem to be a problem with my computer. What is my next step. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since it is systemwide, I'd try to repair this with 10.4.10 Combo Updater Intel.
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
EDIT: Is there something odd going on with red, yellow and green areas at the bottom of your display, or is that just a low quality image causing that?

IMovie Major Problem - Please Help!

I imported video clips from an analog source though my DV VCR into Final Cut Pro via FireWire but for reasons too technical to go into I now have to edit the project ASAP using iMovie 5.0.2
The problem is that when I import the clips they are stretched into a letterboxed format that distorts the image. Other clips that were brought in with my DV camcorder (which were shot on the camcorder) look fine and fill the screen properly but I can't find any way around the stretching problem with the clips captured from the analog source. This project has to be done by the end of the day OR ELSE! Is there anybody out there who can help me solve this problem?

That one didn't work either. I don't understand why the clips looked fine in Final Cut Pro and look fine in Quicktime but are distorted in iMovie. I know this is an Apple Forum but for crying out loud, is there ANY editing software that I can get that will just play these things correctly while my Quad is in the shop? I even have all of the clips ready for dropping into a timeline (trimmed in QuickTime Pro) and all I need to do is render it into video and audio TS files and I'm good to go. Otherwise I lose a major client! This is crazy because I own Final Cut Studio but my software is back in the States (I'm in London right now)!
Apple makes great products, and I'm a very loyal customer but this particular problem is gonna sink my business!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just replaced my Superdirve, now I have a major problem! Help please!

I was having lots of trouble with my factory fitted Matshita drive, it would only burn DVD's at 2x regardlesss of what the disc said. After a lot of research I finally purchased a Pioneer K05 the other day and fitted it last night along with some extra memory. I started the computer up biting my fingernails and all was well. I went to system profiler and it was recognised in there along with the "supported/shipped" statement which gave me confidence. My problems started when I put my first DVD film in. There is a terrible scraping noise coming from within the drive?? It does read the disc correctly, the only way I can describe it is that it sounds like 2 things-
1. It either has a loose part inside or
2. It has some sort of vibration problem because of my fitting.
To be totally honest now I did not have the correct Torx screwdriver for the job so I removed and replaced them with a small pair of electrical pliers so I'm guessing they will not be in as tight as before, could this be the problem? I know it could just be a faulty drive but before I send it back I would liked to have covered all my options. I am off in to town now to get the correct Torx set so upon my return any help comments can be met with a person who actually has the correct tools! lol

Well I've bought the right torx set and its still the same. I have now replaced the Matshita and that sounds perfect. I have contacted the supplier of the Pioneer and they are going to give me a replacement. It MUST have been the drive, I replaced the Matshita back exactly the same and it is fine??

Iphoto 09 major problems - PLEASE HELP!

Gosh I really hope someone can help me. .
I upgraded iphoto 09 this morning and the result has been utter chaos.
First I have 3 different iphoto libraries for different years. There are albums from 2 years ago now mixed in the middle of 2009 albums (where the websites are listed under Mobile me Gallery on the left hand side).
To make matters worse, every Mobile Me Gallery is malfunctioning. If you click on a gallery, it starts looking like it is updating the album (even though no changes have been made). It then comes up as an error and takes away the link for that gallery. When I tried to click the link to get the pics, the links are all unavailable. I have hundreds of galleries that I have created over the years.
I hope this is a common problem with new users. Please let me know.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you just upgrade the application and then launch each existing library with the new library?
Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild each of the libraries. Select the last three options.

645 Ultra and Geforce 4200, major problems, please help!!

I have read through this forum and have seen different problems with this mobo and geforce cards, so first here is my set up.
P4 1.6A
645Ultra Rev 1 Bios 1.9
Visiontek 4200 128mb ddr
IBM Hard Disk 7200 rpm
300W Codegen PS
256 Corsair DDR333
Let me put it like this: With just the video card in, and "installing" winxp on a fresh formatted drive. The card/board crashes the install. I had been using a radeon 7500 on my system for awhile with no problems, but wanted more power, so bought geforce 4. Did the clean uninstall of radeon drivers,bla bla, and install the geforce 4. Nothing but problems, randoms hangs, and eventually would not even let me boot past the bios screen. When I boot in safe mode, it crashes my computer. When I put back in the radeon, no problems.
So I reformatted my whole comp, knowing anyway that it was not xp, so I had to use the radeon to reinstall xp since installer crashes with geforece card.(bye the way I tried my older geforce256 SDR, and same problems). I install fresh system, but do not install radeon drivers, turn off comp, put in geforce card on fresh install, again no drivers, and it still crashes my system...random hangs. So I install the drivers from the install CD, forgot which version, and again still crashes. So can anyone help me. This is clearly a mobo card conflict.
Could it be IRQ settings or Powersupply not enough?

I would not say it is a PSU problem as you have the same issues with the other cards.
IRQ could be if you have anything plugged in PCI slot 1 and 2.

Im Using Macbook black operating at Mac OS X (10.5.3), Recently I cant open my Adobe Photoshop so i decided to re-install but i still cant. So what i decided to do is to Clear all the stuffs from my macbook as there we too much things also. I want to be totally empty so i insert the Mac Disc inside and off my mac gives me a blank screen. help me please...

Insert your Leopard install DVD
Hold down the C key and keep it held down
Press the power key to start it up
Continue to hold the C key until the computer is done booting up

MAJOR PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP!!

Before I contact AppleCare I want to know what if I'm the only one who is experiencing all these malfunctions first.
I bought my iMac last year right around this time and I've never had problems with it until now.
I decided to leave windows computer about two years ago, I have an iMac and a powerbook g4 now for the very reason why I hated windows, that whole lagging and screen freezing thing.
Never seen it with any macs before until just last week.
My iMac just froze. I didn't know what it was.
I had about 9 safari windows opened and I believed that most of them were in tabs.
It never freezes until I Minimize a window. It just freezes. Can't click on anything even though the cursor is still active, the screen is still active its just not doing anything. So no panic I just need to restart right? Just a day later it did it again. And it keeps doing it. So I dont know whats wrong. Here's an image as to how it looks like.
Another problem I am having is with my external hard drives. I dont think its the hard drives because when I connect it with my powerbook it has no problems but with my iMac, every time I restart my computer it gives me that error about my external drives.
What do I do??

Solaris 10 upgrade - Major problems - PLEASE HELP

I have a v880 running Solaris 10 11/06 (U3) which I am trying to upgrade to the latest Solaris 8/11 (U10) release without much success. I am simply using the Solaris Installation Program and booting from DVD and running the upgrade option. However the process fails with the following error:
The selected Software exceeds the available disk space.
The Solaris operating environment selected to upgrade contains
a metadevice. Disk Space Re-allocation is not allowed.
Please do one of the following:
Deselect some software to be installed.
Choose another version of Solaris to upgrade. (If available)
Go back and select Initial Install.
Exit the installation.<Press ENTER to continue>
A df -h shows that / has 22Gb free, swap space is 3.1Gb free, /var has 7.1Gb free and /usr 3.1Gb free. All the documentation seems to show that that is ample space. I'm relatively new to Unix and Solaris so be gentle with me if I'm doing something stupid. Many thanks to all. An initial install is not an option as I need to keep the setup as is.

It's probably /usr that it's whining about. It's not very exact when calculating space and 3.1G is not ample space these days. This is why I put everything in the / partition anymore. Don't have to worry about this crap down the line...
You might try copying some stuff off of /usr (if you can find it) and try again.

Major problem, need help

okay so my dad completely reset our power mac G5 last week to reinstall the system to recover some lost programs. He put all of our stuff on a seagate backup harddrive and reset the system. Today i went on the computer form the first time since he did so and everything was locked. We cant make a new folder or anything. We tried to go to the old system folder where they said all of our old stuff would be but the personal files are all locked. When i click on the finder app, a window comes up that says: "the folder could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges."

Imac 27 i7 with lg m2762d monitor tv major problem please help

i guys i have just turned to macs and im stuck
i have a imac 27" i7 and its beautiful but i wont to connect a second monitor i have its a lg m2762d
i bought a dr doc mini display port to hdmi cable and the hdmi cable
when i plug it all in it wont give me the option to use 1920 x 1080 resolution so the second monitor looks naff
i know the cable works as i tried a samsung 24 inch monitor and i know the lg monitor works in 1080 as ive tried it on my pc
my question is: is there a compatablity issue or a driver issue and is there a way round it

Are you using Extended Desktop or mirroring for the displays? Are you getting a Sys Prefs/Displays window on both displays when you go to Sys Prefs/Displays on the iMac?
Apple suggests that you connect and turn on the ext display before starting up your Mac so that it gets a good read from the ext display's information that it uses to identify itself to the iMac.

Some websites have an internal mute or volume setting. If that's not the issue, see below.
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
           ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
          Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.

Major Nano Problem - Please Help

I have a 1 GB iPod Nano that worked fine when I got it in May 2006. Now, however I have a major problem. I put my iPod on the computer to charge through USB and when it was finished I could not safely remove. Actually, the iPod was not recognized by my computer or iTunes at all and the screen keeps flashing the apple logo and will not turn off until the battery runs down.
Here is what I did to try and fix. Reset and restore. I also tried to put the iPod in disc mode. When I put in disc mode my computer recognizes the iPod and it is shown in iTunes but when I safely remove, the iPod remains in disc mode and I can't get out of disc mode unless I reset and then I am dealing with the flashing appe logo again.
Could someone please help!

Does my problem has anything to do with SSL for mail settings? Cause when I tried re-adding it says something that I should try without SSL, and I did what you said and it gives me this "The IMAP server pop.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field". Ahh.. this is so annoying, Apple what are you doing to me?! Or is Yahoo doing this to me?!

Help with major problem

I have a major problem with my 4th generation iPod. Everytime I go to play it, it will skip songs when I don't want it to, pay for about 10 seconds and skip songs again. Sometimes it will play a song for while and then skip to another song halfway or it will just freeze up. I had this problem before and so I restored it. Now, it is still doing the same thing. I've tried restoring more than once and it still does the same thing. Why is this happening and how do I solve it?

You could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A
full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on
the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore
the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater)
afterward. This can also work when the iPod is
recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the
iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are
at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked.
Now select "format". It will take a while, but when
that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
If you need to, reset the iPod to exit disk mode.
So far so good except my iPod is not recognised by the updater so I can't restore it. What do I now?
