Make a backup/restore of an user in Beehive

It it possible to make a backup/restore(mailbox) of an user in Beehive?

Hello Miguel,
Well, you need place for your backup - You can say me that you store them on tapes it's less expensive than on disk - that's right it's also less efficient and quick if you have to restore your environment. You can use a dev/test environment for that - no need to install the same hardware (cpu/mem) or the same architecture - you "just" need the same space disk -
Moreover, you will install only one the machine/os/rdbms and beehive as well as the local PC.
When an user delete a mail, it is still on the trash - so whatever the client used it can recover it from there. Just configure your client to avoid to empty the trash on exit.
There are other solutions, like set up a Data Guard and apply a delay on archivelog application - all is function of your retention policy and until when on the past you accept to recover an email
Not sure to follow you, when you say that storing the wastebasket on the server will reduce you the the probabilities of having to retrieve an email from the backup. Outlook and Zimbra have the same trash folder, so for example if I delete a mail on Outlook it goes on the trash. I can see it on Zimbra & on Outlook trash folder. Now if I purge my trash you won't be able to retrieve it neither on Outlook nor on Zimbra.
About your question on the Inconsistency of trash folder between Thunderbird and Zimbra, the trash folder is as far I know created by the client, and so stored locally. Outlook and Zimbra do not use IMAP to retrieve the messages but internal protocol, that's why they share their trash folder.
Recover email is definitively on the roadmap, - unfortunately I do not have date to share - as you can imagine many customers have the same request.
Regards,
Fred

How do I make a backup when there are 4 users on my mac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have more than one user, the backup is just the same as if you have one user. All users are backed up and there isn't any difference between a backup made on a Mac with one user and on a Mac with multiple users. Then, if you want to restore that backup in the future, you will be able to select which users you want to restore

I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed.  After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work.  I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder.  Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore.  Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • How do I backup/restore multiple IPhone on one computer

    Hi everyone
Need some help here. I work as a helpdesk and recently most of the IPhones are now due for upgrade. What is the best way to backup the data from old Iphone and restore to new Iphone for multiple users on one computer?  Basically everyone expects to hand me their old phone and new phone, and when they get the new phone back, the new phone will have the same data as it was on the old one.
I have done backup/restore just for myself before. Is there a easier way to do for multiple users on the same computer?
    Any input will be appreciated
    Thanks
    Charlie

First of all, thanks for quick reply.
How about backup to icloud and then restore from icloud?  I did not bring it up because I do not want the backup/restore to cripple to network.
I would normally ask the users to take their old phone and new phone to AT&T store or Apple store to get it done. But as I work in corp office, and all I dealt with are the CEO, CFO, etc. They want the upgrade process done and without them getting involved (I try to keep it that way to make them happy).
    any thoughts?

  • Erase and sync issues (backup/restore)

    Hello.
I have an issue with the backup/restore with my iPhone.
Sometimes, it is difficult to find an answer that fits your problem exactly on the forum!  Lots of good stuff though!
This post will be little longer than normal, but I need to get all the facts on the table.
I'll try to keep this brief.  Please hear me out!
    From another post ...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12273122
    Kwopau stated ...
if you do a restore, you only have 2 options, Restore as new, meaning nothing will go on it
and you will just have to start fresh and no contacts will go in there.
The other option is "Restore from Back up _______" it will completely restore your phone
from your last back up and everything will be on there.
    End of quote ...
    Here is my situation.
    I have a 3g 16GB iPhone.
I am still running IOS 3 (not IOS 4).
I do not use sync.  I  manually manage the music and books with iTunes.
    I have an HP laptop.
A while ago, I had to completely rebuild the computer.
The computer has a new computer and user name (I don't know if this matters in iTune/iPhone matchup)?
I have not been able to connect the iPhone since then.
    Let me rephrase that.
I can connect with iTunes.  I can see all that is on the iPhone.
When I try to add or delete music or books on the iPhone with iTunes or set the manually manage check box, I get the following message ...
The iPhone "myname's iPhone" is synced with another iTunes library.
Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with the this iTunes library.
Most commands appear to be grayed  out,  I can't add or delete anything.
I do not have anything in current  iTunes library at the moment.
    My fear is this.
If I do the erase and sync as suggested  (iPhone message above) to the iPhone and then use the new iTunes library,  will I be able to use the backup (I just created) to restore to the iPhone that I just reset?
If so, will it have contacts and all the other stuff?
I can afford to lose the music and books, and perhaps the apps on the iPhone.
I cannot afford to lose my contact list.
I need to find another way to backup the contact list, Outlook, etc?
If there other posts relative to this, please point me to them.
I am afraid to pull the trigger for fear that iTunes will not recognize the iPhone after the erase and sync and then not allow me to restore.
Perhaps someone can put my mind at ease and convince me that it will all be good if I proceed!
Thanks for you time and help in this matter ...
    Bob

Do you know how to transfer purchases? Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes. Click on the iPad nema on the left side of the iTunes window to select it. Then go to File>Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your purchased iPad content into the iTunes library on the PC.
Here are instructions in a very short, easy to follow article.
Transfer iTunes Library to a new computer
This discussion will be helpful to show you how to make the PC work wTunes from the iPad.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3305461
This is the discussion from which I borrowed the some of the text in my post from the discussion above.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
What puzzles me is that if you had updated with the PC, I would have thought that you would have backed up and synced with that PC as well, but read the articles and instructions and post back with questions.
You can email the pdf files to the iPad, or use iOS file sharing, and open and save them in iBooks or another pdf reader app, but start with getting your stuff onto the PC.

  • How i can make a backup without separate hdd?

How i can make a backup without seperate hdd?

how i can partition the hd? please step by step...
    today it's my first apple-day ... i was 18 years windows user
While I agree with everyone else, get a second disk and backup to that disk, I will point you in the directory of partitioning.
Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
Disk Utility may or may not be able to carve a new partition out of your existing partition, depending on whether the end of the current partition is unused so the current partition can be reduced in size and a new partition added.
It may be necessary to use an external disk, clone your internal disk using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (both free to use when creating a full clone), then partition your internal disk, and finally restore the external clone to the internal disk again using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you do not want to get a 2nd disk, then consider using an on-line service such as CrashPlan, Carbonite, Mozy, etc... for the files you absolutely cannot aford to loose.

  • How to BackUp Restore Large Library "original file could not be found"

I've searched the archives for this with no clear answer, and am reposting to avoid confusing anyone.
I am working on a manual and seamless BACKUP-RESTORE process to manage my large 100-gigabyte-plus iTunes library.
    +++++
First, my iTunes folder is in default location:
    Boot drive> User> Music
I don't keep any music in this folder.
New music is imported into this folder, copied over to my Music Library, and then deleted from iTunes folder (to keep it and my boot drive clean, and my 100GB Music Library folder meticulously organized).
My iTunes folder is set at default:
    iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location
My actual 100-gigabyte-plus music folder is stored on a 2nd hard drive:
    HardDrive> Music Library
    This setup works perfect.
    +++++
    BACKUP
    To backup, I simply:
    1) copy my User> Music> iTunes folder (800mb) to a 3rd hard drive.
    2) copy my HardDrive> Music Library to 3rd hard drive
    RESTORE
    To restore, I simply:
    1) copy my backup iTunes into User> Music.
    2) copy my Music Library back to 2nd hard drive HardDrive.
    3) Relaunch iTunes and every works perfect.
    THE PROBLEM
However, if I change the name of my 2nd hard drive (where my 100GB music folder is stored) — iTunes shows everything in place — all songs, art, playlists — but I get following error on every song:
THE SONG NAMED ______ COULD NOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FILE COULD NOT BE FOUND. WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT?
Obviously I don't want to have to do this individually for 30,000 songs and am looking for instructions how to point iTunes database back to my 2nd hard drive> Music Library and complete the restore process.
I am hoping this can be done without changing my work flow — and it is a simple and logical move to tell iTunes where all the original files (missing songs) are stored.
    +++++
    Previous discussions have noted:
    Following this Apple Support Doc
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
I was able to Quit iTunes, relaunch iTunes holding Option key, and chose my existing library (from my Music folder) — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
If I point the Option+Open iTunes library prompt to my 100GB Music Library (on the 2nd hard drive), it tells me (logically) there is no library there).
I've also launched and manually verifies iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
I anticipate more complications if I reset iTunes preferences to my 2nd hard drive or start dinking around trying to see what works and what does not work.
    +++++
At this point I am trying to make THIS workflow, backup-restore process work — so I am hoping someone else has slugged through this and can take a few minutes to clue me in the right direction (or at least tell me there is no way to do what I am trying).

If I simply rename the second hard drive to the name of the original 2nd hard drive — iTunes is successfully restored.
I am still looking for a better way because I want to change the name of the second HD...

  • Backup / Restore of RSS preferences

Basic question, I'm sure I'm missing something simple:
I have had to do backup/restore of my machine a few times recently (long story) but each time i restore my safari preferences my RSS feeds don't seem to update - eventually I go clicking thru preferences and thru trial and error they get going again. But the Safari RSS preferences must be stored in a plist or something, right? Are they somewhere special?
Generally, I backup and restore ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. What else do i need to restore to make sure my feeds work again?!
    TIA for any advice..

The RSS feeds are contained in a database file found at User Library>Syndication. You may see files in this folder with "damaged" as part of the name. This represents corrupted database files since recreated by Safari.
The RSS process is still evolving. Has me mystified at times at how it updates itself. Perhaps Leopard's Safari version will offer something new?

  • How to make a backup of iCal calendars?

    iCal Help says:
    1. In iCal, choose File > Export > iCal Archive.
    2. Name the backup file and choose where you want to keep it.
Then it makes one file that ends with .icbu (iCal 2012-05-23.icbu)
I'm guessing that it takes all 4 of my color coded calendars and saves them as one archive?
    This document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4707) says:
    -Open iCal
-Select one of the calendars in the Calendar list.
-Choose File > Export > Export.
-Save the file to a safe location
-Repeat for every calendar you want to back up.
Then it makes a file with the name of the individual calendar and .ics (Vacations.ics)
So I have 4 color coded calendars called vacations, freelance, home, work
I would need to do this 4 times.
Anyone know which is the right one?
I'm backing up iCal, Address Book and Bookmarks in prep of moving from MobileMe to iCloud and want to make sure I'm covered.
I also backup to a Time Capsule with Time Machine.
I'm guessing that I can still restore Address book, iCal and Bookmarks from my TC/TM backup and that this is an additional precaution?
    Thanks for any help.

    Susan,
I'm guessing that it takes all 4 of my color coded calendars and saves them as one archive?
Correct, but the archive should be capable of restoring all individual user calendars.
I would need to do this 4 times.
Also correct. This option provides the capability of restoring individual calendars one-by-one.
Anyone know which is the right one?
They are both correct, but I recommend that you use both methods. Having multiple sources available has proven to be useful in some cases.
I also backup to a Time Capsule with Time Machine.
I'm guessing that I can still restore Address book, iCal and Bookmarks from my TC/TM backup and that this is an additional precaution?
Also correct, but there are some additional considerations when restoring from TM which are detailed in this excellent article written by Roger Wilmut.

  • Backup/Restore in IMS5.2

    Hello,
We are looking for a complete Backup/Restore System for VIP employees in my company (IMS5.2 with Win2k). That is, we would like to be able see and restore any email (one-by-one) from an employee backup to his mailbox. I don't know if there is any tool which can catalogue all the backups to restore an especific email.
    Would it be possible?
Which would be the nearest planning that we can do with imsbackup/imsrestore?
I have not seen how can make a restore just for one email using imsrestore.
    Thanks for all.

No such backup tool exists. imsbackup/imsrestore has granularity down to the user, but not to the message.
You can restore to a different folder, say, "inbox-09-02-04", and then use any imap/webmail client you like to identify what mails to move back into the old folders, though. That's enough for most.
I don't know of any way to gather a catalog of each message that's backed up, and access that in any useful way. I don't believe any large-scale mail server offers such. Imagine how large such a file/database would have to be, to be able to list thousands of messages for each of many hundreds of thousands of users. . .

  • Lync Backup/Restore with SQL backup

Is it possible to backup and restore the XDS database (Lync topology and configuration information) using SQL database tools?  Technet is very confusing, it describes in great detail how to use cmdletts to export the configuration then back it up with
te regular backups.  But then at link for Backup - restore best practices  it states "The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary,
the restoration process requires only one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202184.aspx
Best Practices for Backup and Restoration
To facilitate your back up and restoration process, apply the following best practices when you back up or restore your data:
Perform regular backups at appropriate intervals. The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary, the restoration process requires only
one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost.
If you use cmdlets or the Lync Server Control Panel to make configuration changes, use the
Export-CsConfiguration cmdlet to take a snapshot backup of the topology configuration file (Xds.mdf) after you make the changes so that you won't lose the changes if you need to restore your databases.
Ensure that the shared folder you plan to use for backing up Lync Server 2010 has sufficient disk space to hold all the backed up data.
Schedule backups when Lync Server usage typically is low to improve server performance and the user experience.
Ensure that the location where you back up data is secure.
Keep the backup files where they are available in case you need to restore the data.
Plan for and schedule periodic testing of the restoration processes supported by your organization.
Validate your backup and restoration processes in advance to ensure that they work as expected.
    Thanks for your help,
