Make a DVD

I have imovie on my compuer I have version 10.8.3 I bought it in November. I can not find IDVD on my computer I need to make a DVD that will play on any DVD player. I have looked in the app store and there are so many apps What is a good one to get? I am just starting out makeing DVD's I cant spend a lot of money for final cut pro.
Thank you for any help
TJ

Apple told me that iDVD is not offerd any more.
This is not correct. Amazon sells iLife 11 on disc that includes iDVD.  As suppliers run low, Apple sends more to Amazon.   It's a big seller.
But 1DVD is a good program I make my movies on imovie I just needed to make a DVD on my computer 1DVD has a free version it worked wel. So l I paid the $9.99 For the Pro version. I am a small bussness and cant afford FCP so I work with what I can. I cant spend $300.00 and only use it a few times.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes, none of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!

  • Trying to make a DVD with an old/non-existent version of iDVD!

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
    Please could you help me?
I work at a school in the UK, and have recently been able to purchase an external Lacie DVD drive, as the school’s computer (currently an iBook G4 with OSX 10.3.2 and a 1GHZ Power PC Processor – 640 MB Memory and a 40 GB HD) wasn’t shipped with one – however, I have a problem…
Trying to make a DVD that will play in a stand-alone DVD player – I followed the advice in iMovie Help – but was stopped suddenly on finding that I do not have the relevant version of iDVD (which version (if any – I can’t see it anywhere!) was shipped with iMovie 4.0?). Is it possible to download a copy of iDVD 3 or later from anywhere compatible with OSX 10.3.2 and iMovie 4.0?
The iMovie Help has an additional option to ‘export your movie in a format appropriate for DVD authoring’ which has let me burn the movie as a (name).DV file – but this is not compatible with any DVD player I have tried. I noticed a while ago on this forum that someone was talking about Toast but I do not have this, but I do have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, which was bundled with the burner – but is only compatible with a PC – would I be able to build a project in iMovie, transfer it to a PC, and use REMC7 to do what toast would?
Finally, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using Avid’s free DV software – and if they would recommend it (and also if I would be able to make DVDs with it?).
Well thanks for reading if you got this far – and I’d appreciate it if you could offer any advice (I know I’ve not been very concise)…
    Kevin.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

Thanks for the welcome Karsten! I’ve checked the installer disks – which appear to have all the main pieces of software, but not iDVD. If you or anyone knows where it might be hidden that would be great. Thanks for all the other info too!
Thanks Lennart – I don’t think my computer could support iLife ’05 as it is running Mac OSX 10.3.2 and I’ve just been looking at its system requirements which state it requires 10.3.4 minimum – if you know differently, please let me know. As an alternative I have considered getting iLife ’04, but your comment about iLife ’05 being the first version to support external drives worried me (“iDVD 5 is the first iDVD version that officially supports external burners“ does this mean there is an unofficial option for iLife ‘04? Perhaps a patch similar to the one mentioned by Karsten), does that mean iLife ’04 would not support an external Lacie DVD writer?
What is the earliest version of Toast I’d be able to use (as a money saving option!)?
Thank you both, and apoligies for my amateurish questions…
    Kevin.

  • I am trying to make a DVD of some of my photos in iPhoto 11.   The photos are in iPhoto, but in one of my external hard drives.   I have been able to make DVD's just recently, but not now.  What can I do?  At the end I get a notice of "failure

HELP, HELP, I am having difficulty making a DVD-R  of some photos I have in one of my folders in iPhoto 11.   I use iPhoto on my external HD.   I have never had problems before today making copies of my photos using DVD-R disk.   I am doing the same thing that worked before.   Some of my photos are going to be put in a gallery for showing and I need to make a DVD so they can choose which ones to display and enlarge the photos.   It was due TODAY!  Yikes!  At the end of each try I get a window saying "BURN FAILED - The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S drive failed.  The disk drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry."    help...........

How are you getting the photo onto the disk to burn?  Have you tried exporting then to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disk using the Finder.  That will give you a data disk with just the jpeg image files in the folder.
If that's what you're doing and getting the burn failed then it's a system or optical drive issue.
If you're using the Share  ➙ Burn menu in iPhoto that will create a disk with a mini iPhoto library on it that can only be used by another Mac running iPhoto.
Can you elaborate on your workflow.

  • Which Makes Of DVD-Rs work?

    Hi Everyone
I've been trying to burn a DVD to disc, but keep getting a message saying that 'this type of media is not supported'. From reading through the postings I gather that the G4 iMacs are pre-set to burn at X4 and can be temperamental with many discs calibrated to faster speeds.
I've been trying to use Sony DVD-R, thinking, hey, it's a Sony burner in the machine but... well, it doesn't work. So much for logic.
My question is does anyone know of a make of DVD-R that works? I'm in the UK so brands need to be high profile and available internationally.
Thanks for your help and apologies if this question has been asked billions of times in the past (I did look, honestly).
    David

    Hi Ian,
Took some time to come down to the ground and pop in here again eh? Nice to see you.
Where do you buy your Imation discs from?

  • How can I use photoshop Elements 8 to make a DVD to play on a regular TV-DVD? [was:DVD-CD-r]

How can I use photoshop Elements 8 to make a DVD that will show on a regular TV-DVD set-up

You can't do this in PSE by itself. I'm assuming you have windows, so output your slideshow as a wmv file and then use Premiere Elements to finalize the disc, if you have that. If not, use whatever you do have (if you can burn DVDs, you have software). Even windows dvd maker will do this.

  • How do I add 3 projects in specific order to make 1 dvd?

I would like to make a DVD out of 3 projects I created in I movie. All the projects consists of photos and I added a different song for each and would like them to be in specific order. I downloaded them to I tunes but they rearranged the order of the project. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would "Share" each project , one after the other, to Media Browser. Then you can access them directly when you open iDVD (from the media browser in iDVD) , and drag each of them into the iDVD screen and burn the DVD.
I think that is what you want.

  • I have alot of loose photos at home (old) and I would love to make a bunch of iphoto books and make the pages like whole page collages?  How do I get my photos into iphoto in order to do this?  Can I make a DVD at the drugstore and add them to iphoto?

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork.  Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary.  Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto.  From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

  • I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member but when I play it in the viewing  window the top of it is cropped off but I can see the whole image in the project  strip. will the whole image transfer  when I make a dvd or will it crop the top ?

I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member, But when I play it the top of the image is cropped off in the veiwing window but it shows the whole image in the project strip. When I make a DVD with it transfer the whole image or will it be the chopped off image and how do I make sure it is the whole image ?

What version of iMovie are you using?
    For 9.09..
If the image is not 720p, you might have to crop it to have freehand control over which bit gets cut off.
    How to crop it...
In the project window hover your cursor over a section of the clip in the bottom right corner as seen below:
Click on the cog and open up Cropping,Ken Burns and Rotation.
Click on Crop and drag and set to where you want it to be cropped, then click Done. (Because mine isn't 720p, iMovie automatically makes it so I cannot include the black border. If you do not mind this click Allow Black.)
Glad if this helped! Please rate up.

  • Can I make a DVD using Quicktime or anything else in my arsenal?

First off I apologize for m idiocracy in posting this in "Quicktime for Windows" before this as I simply was noy paying any attention, also, please forgive me what I am about to ask has been discussed, but I didn't find any answers in my searching so here goes: How can I make a DVD that will play in TV set DVD players? Do I need any alternate programs or possibly an upgrade to Quicktime Pro?
Heres the situation I have that way, with any luck, you'll understand what and I am trying to do (and hopefully tell me it's a rather easy process): I have a friend that has a bunch of skate videos available for download on his personal web page....turns out those downloads are .mgp and they play through Quicktime. Now what I want to do is take those said videos and make them into a DVD I can watch in any player. Is this possible with Quicktime, iDVD, or anything else that came standard with my new Macbook or do I need another program? Sorry, I'm a new Mac user.
Thanks for the help I've already been given on ths site and the info I am sure to receive now. So far these discussion forums have been extremely helpful.

If you have do do many then buy Toast 8 Titanium and use them directly in Toast and skip first making a QT version then turning around and making yet another version. Which avoid compressing the clips twice as well. MPEG-1 is a very low quality codec so I would not compress the clips once to QT and again to iDVD.
Also iDVD is fussy and takes forever, Toast isn't and doesn't.

  • I want to make a DVD of pictures in iPhoto to use on a Windows computer and need instructions on how to get the pictures in a place to do that.

  • In Aperture I have made a slideshow and now I would like to make a DVD of it. Under Export it does not give me a choice of how to do this?

I have tried to save the slideshow to my desk top and then make a DVD from that and when I go to play it it says wrong file type or format. I tried twice. Saved as a .mov. then I tried to run it thru After Effects and have it as a .mp4 but still does not make a DVD.
Any suggestions on how to make a DVD of the slide show?
    Thanks-

  • If I purchase a box set of iLife and just install the iDVD component on my new iMac should I be able to make a DVD in the format that plays on a TV DVD?

When I recently purchased my first iMac I was disappointed to find that there was no DVD making facility. I want to make a video of photo's and movie clips and then make a DVD that will play on a TV DVD player. I am thinking of purchasing a box set of iLife that includes iDVD and just installing the iDVD component. Can someone  please confirm that tyhis will work? If not any suggestions?

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Trying to make a dvd from a project and this error message appears .The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2125)

Trying to make a dvd from a project and this error message appears .The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2125)

    Hi
    Error -2125
OK Error code - 2125 usually indicates that the movie is to large.
It use to pop up when going to iDVD !
iDVD - DO NOT CARE ABOUT Gbs at all. I got movies on 500Mb that do not fit and 50Gb that fits nicely.
iDVD - ONLY CARES ABOUT - Duration. Duration is Movie time + MENU TIME. Choice of
menu and animation of this can take lost of "DURATION" 15 minutes or even more.
Choice of encoding method and use of SL or DL DVDs determine the DVD limit.
    iDVD 08 & 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
DL DVDs can store about double of these times.
ALTERNATIVE - The Error Code can indicate that free space on Start-up (BOOT) hard disk is
    less than 25Gb (my minimum)

If you are getting OSStatus error -2125, I've seen this caused by the computer display sleep settings.
Try changing the sleep settings to never and see if you are able to export.

  • When I share a file to YouTube, where does the output file live? I want also to make a DVD. And is this a best practice or is there a better way?

I want also to make a DVD, but can't see where the .mov files are.
And is this a best practice or is there a better way to do this, such as with a master file?
    thanks,
    /john

I would export to a file saved on your drive as h.264, same frame size. Then import that into youtube.
I have never used FCP X to make a DVD but I assume that it will build the needed vob mpeg 2 source material for the disk.
I used to use Toast & IDVD. Toast is great.
To "see" the files created by FCP 10.1.1 for YouTube, rt. (control) click on the Library Icon in your Movies/show package contents/"project"/share.
