Make a Quicktime clip small for web

How can I make a Quicktime clip (94MB) small for e-mailing it to a friend?

This what I usually do and it works best. I export the movie file just as a regular quicktime movie which you can select when you go to file-export-quicktime movie. This is a faster way of exporting files out of FCP. Then, i take the quicktime movie file, and import it into iMovie. After it's done importing, then drag it to the timeline in iMovie. Once it is in the timeline, you can go to file-share-quicktime. Then click where it says compress movie for : and i choose the web feature, because i upload projects to a website. I can upload projects that are 43 minutes long, and it was compressed to a size of 240x170 and the size of the 43 minute long piece compressed using the web feature was 49.7MB.
I know there is probably a feature in FCP that does the same thing, but havn't found it out yet. This process has worked nicely for me for the past year and a half, and I have had no problems

  • Using Quicktime's "Export for Web" feature in iWeb?

    Greetings,
Does anyone know if this is possible within iWeb, that is, to use movies created using Quicktime's "Export to Web" feature, which really seems to deliver superior movie quality?
    Much appreciated,
    DaveB

Thanks, good stuff, though I'm still having a small problem with this. I'm getting a gray line around the top and left of my movie and the right side of the player is getting cut off. When I try to make the width larger, it just moves the gray line further to the left.
    Any ideas?

  • Quicktime 10 "Save For Web", spaces in file names?

Maybe I'm overlooking something here, but:
When using Quicktime 10's "Save for Web" function, it exports movie source files that all have spaces in the filenames (i.e. "Movie - iPhone.m4v" etc)
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but most web servers DO NOT like having spaces in the filenames, and every time I try to upload them to one of our web servers, I'm getting an error message that says it doesn't like the file.
Simply removing the spaces from the filenames causes the Quicktime reference movie to stop working, as you might expect.
Am I missing something here? How would someone possibly get this to work?

Thanks for the reply - actually it was helpful, and was the final nail in the coffin for Yahoo Webhosting for us. We've been using it for years, and even though it ***** terribly (and I mean TERRIBLY, horribly, painfully), we've stuck with it just because it's been easier to use it than to not switch. But you're exactly right... I tried uploading files to Cachefly with spaces in the name, and bingo, works perfectly.
    Thanks.

  • Quicktime X - export for web creates files that can't be uploaded

I'm trying to post a video to my website that can be viewed via computer or iphone. I used the "save for web" command and checked all three options: iphone, iphone (cellular), computer.   There resulting folder had all three files and a reference ".mov" file which I understand will select the correct file based on the device being used to access the movie. I created an .html file based on the instructions and even used the sample file to make sure everything worked on the local level. The only problem is that when I went to upload the folder to the web, I couldn't upload any of the actual movie files because there were spaces in the file names, for example: the file named "olympics" was automatically saved as "olympics - iPhone (Cellular).3gp" and "olympics - iPhone.m4v," etc. The server would not me to upload files with spaces in the name. When I tried to remove the spaces and ext. puncutation, the files could upload but were no longer seen by the reference mov called "olympics.mov".   Is there a solution to this problem, either in the way the reference movie is created or in the way the files could be uploaded with spaces? Thank you for your help...

    Hi Kim,
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Are they sill that way on Safe Mode?
Is Spotlight trying to index that drive?

  • QuickTime 10 Save for Web

    Hello,
I used QT 10 to Save for Web and embedded the video in a web page per the instructions available upon completing the Save As. When I do the video plays in Safari, plays with errors in Internet Explorer, and does not play at all in Chrome. IE complains about errors in the .js file that the export states to put in the HEAD element. Has anyone else run into this?
    thanks in advance,

  • Best QuickTime export quality for web

What setting are the best for exporting small .mov files to the internet. I would like to export 6 min. video in less then 20 MB. any ideas?
    Thanks

Wow there are a lot of answers available for search here on this forum.
I like File-Export - Quicktime Conversion... then choose Broadband HIGH... click on OPTIONS and then SIZE and change to something a bit smaller. Change the Audio to 32k sample and it should get you down under 20megs.
    Good luck,

  • Want to make JMenuMaker to be used for web!!!

I want to know is there a way to make drop-down menu in the middle of a web page for example think about the browser menubar in the top of this message.
Can the predefined java classes be used for this job?
you may asked what it will be used for.If you have a web site that has huge content then you can find you way easyly by the help of links in this Menu.I know Javascript can be used for this but I want this Menu to be dynamic that is I want to add new links to this Menu without changing the code of the program.
Please do not advice other than what I need...
    thanxxx...

I found the answer at last.
The reason the applet brings up a window to demonstrate menus is that the AWT limits where you can use menus. Menus can exist only in menu bars, and menu bars can be attached only to windows (specifically, to Frames).
I said I don't want to make an application. If I use menus in my applet and embed it to html it won't work...

  • New Quicktime X controls for web

I'm trying to make my embedded quicktime videos use the latest quicktime X controls.
    Example: http://www.apple.com/ipad/
If you watch the 2nd video you'll see the controls fade in and out when you roll over the movie and use the latest version of quicktime. Instead of the old version which has the bar at the bottom at all times.
How do I get that look?

Very complex javascript code does the fancy voodoo.
Open the link (above) with Safari and then open the Activity Window to view all of the page elements.
You'll find at least 4 different javascript files that build the special controller.

  • Make PDF file size smaller for scans

I'm using a fairly high DPI setting on my scanner.  Is there anyway to adjust the size of the PDF file after the scan??? Or do I have to adjust the scan settings to a lower DPI?? Thanks!

Yes, in Acrobat, run the PDF Optimizer and select: Images > Image settings
and select the downsample settings to suit your needs for the type of image the scan is (color, grayscale, monochrome).

  • SD 16:9 video for web? How to have widescreen SD video but not in DV format

I make videos that are intended for web using final cut express. But, my camera shoots in standard definition, and in wide screen. I try the anamorphic codecs, but here is the problem....I don't want to edit in the DV format!!! So, every time i try to render something (like text), it becomes distorted and low-quality because it renders to DV. I assume i'm supposed to use the HD codecs but as i said before, my camera isn't HD. So, what do i do? is there an extension or something i can add on? I really appreciate the help. (my camera is a canon FS200 that shoots to flash memory)

I just Googled the specs and it appears this camera shoots SD Mpeg2 at a low data rate.
I'm surprised it's working at all.
Try a test clip using Streamclip>Export to Quicktime to convert the footage to the specs of an an FCE Easy Setup. It might as well be an Anamorphic DV choice.
The converted clip with titles should hold up OK normally.

  • Best for Web viewing

    Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions on which is the best way to export my video for web viewing.
Currently I have a project that was only 1.9MB big but when I exported it to a .mov file it came out to be over 350MB large!
My project is currently exporting at 720x480, 29397 [fps], Lower, Quality 50 - Audio at 32000 Hz, Mono, 16bit - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.
I understand that the 720x480 will have to be reduced and was wonering if anyone out there had any suggestions how to "shrink" the video and make it the best quality for web viewing..
    Thank you!

You are not comparing things correctly. The Project File is no indicator of what the export file is likely to be because it does not include the size of all the clips and media contained in your project.  THe ppj is kind of an organisational list of all your edit decisions and the locations of the media theyrefer to etc...

  • Sharpening for web against sharpening for print

I am new to lightroom and I am trying to establish a workflow for processing my raw images.
I want to accomplish 2 things in regards to sharpening.
After doing all color corections I want to sharpen the image for:
    1. web view
    2. print through for example mpix service
If i sharpen something for the web view to my liking , how should i export the image for printing?
Where should i add any extra sharpening if any?
What is the best way to accomplish the sharpest image? (assuming it was done in camera correclty in the first place)
    thx

Output sharpening for web or print is done in the export dialog. Just choose the particular use. The output sharpening in LR is an excellent tool as it takes into account the size of the file and gives various choices based on particular paper types. You would use sharpen for screen for the web image and sharpening for print for the print...two separate exports as you would also be changing the export sizing smaller for web, obviously. You can also use the print module and print to jpg appling the required sharpening in that module.
If the image requires any creative sharpening over and above what is applied by default then this is done using the sharpening tools in the develop mode and entirely separate process than the export sharpening. Use with caution as over sharpening is an easy mistake to make, ensure you view the results in LR at 1:1 and if applying a lot of creative sharpening do not over compress when exporting the file.

  • Best settings for web streaming

I made an 11 minute film in imovie. I want to put it on my website. I am told that loading it into Quicktime Pro, and then exporting it will give me lots of choices for settings, to optimize the quality and the speed for web viewing. A friend told me to use mp4 at 30 frame at 640 X 480 for acceptable quality. Youtube seems to agree with that. Unfortunately, The resultant quicktime export was a 74 mB file. That seems awfully large for the web. I also tried saving it directly from imovie as an "email", which doesn't allow any tweaking, and that version was 18 mB, and a bit small for web viewing.
This morning, I've looked through many posts here, but I can't find one place that gives clear opinions for settings for streaming video over the web. I realize there's a lot of choices, so opinions will differ. Nonethless, , but I'd really be happy to have just two or three choices, with all the Quicktime Pro settings spelled out for me. Can someone do that?
And lastly, what size — both file size and screen size — should I be using for this 11 minute web viewable film?

I have a similar problem with excessively large files resulting from use of the "export for web" function.
I have a range of self-contained quicktime movies averaging about 20MB in size. They are all encoded in MPEG4 or H264.
Exporting for "desktop" results in some files being over 75MB in size.

  • Save for web win7 x64 CS4 x64

    ...is Rubbish!
crashes everytime.  I have to do my save for web in 32bit photoshop.  it was flaky on XP 32bit as well but not as consistantly wobbly.
Can anyone report whether its better on CS5?

Can you be more specific about what size image you're starting with, what color depth, what color space?  Are you saving .gif, .jpg, what?
I just saved this animated .gif image, for example, using that combination on Windows 7 x64.  Notably it continued to work, but when I finally shut Photoshop down Windows reported "Photoshop Has Stopped Working", so...  I think your problem is confirmed.
In my case, it was a fresh start of Photoshop, 2 opens via Camera Raw, some minor editing to overlay one image over the other, sizing, Make Frames from Layers, Save For Web.  Images were 8 bit, sRGB when saved.
P.S., the image below doesn't seem to animate except when it's expanded to full size.

  • CS5 Save for Web and Devices problem

I recently installed CS5 and now I cannot save for Web and Devices.  A pop up error window appears saying "A write permissions error has occurred".  Any suggestions to make it possible to save for Web and Devices would be appreciated.
Also, when I exit Photoshop CS5, yet another pop up window appears and reads, "Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges.  Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders'.  Again, any suggestions as to what this message is about and how to make PS close as it did with CS4 would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    E

    Try this first:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Macintosh HD > Repair Disk Permissions
Also make sure your not saving to a removable hard drive that is NTFS. If you can drag files into the drive its the right type of drive to use and there shouldn't be a problem.
Apart from that all i can say is to restart your Mac and make sure all the adobe updaters are up to date
    Hope that helps
