Make a sound for new messages in inbox

I would like to hear a sound as each new message hits my inbox.

Hi Delphi, that's a feature of your email provider. Unfortunately Firefox can't tell if and when you get new emails.

  • Is it possible to disable New Message sound for SPAM messages?

I inherited a role email account which receives an incredible amount of spam. Mail's SPAM filters do a good job or routing these messages to the SPAM box and keeping them out of my inbox, but I still receive a "New Message" sound notification every time a new SPAM message arrives. Is it possible to disable the "New Message" sound alert for SPAM messages while still receiving the alert for new messages that arrive in my inbox?
    Thanks,
    jason

    Try this:
Go into Preferences -> General and uncheck the box that says "Play sounds for other mail actions".
I'm not sure if it will work since that's really still "new" mail, but it might be worth trying.

  • My iPhone 4s refuses to make alert sounds for one contact.  All other text messages from other individuals, including iMessage, all make appropriate alert sounds.  Very frustrating.  Any help out there?

My iPhone 4s refuses to make alert sounds for messages for one particular contact of mine.  All other text messages come through with appropriate alert sounds.  Any help out there?

As always seems to happen, the next thing you try ends up working. Well almost. I
Deleted the contact and sent a message from that phone to mine -- problem persisted
Deleted the person from my FAVORITES in the phone app (the entry still existed even though the contact had been deleted). This worked!!!
It's kind of weird that the favorites in the phone app were somehow affecting notifications in Messages for a contact that had been deleted, but there you are.

  • Gmail account constantly checks for new messages/spike spinning ball

We have a new macbook pro. I opened my gmail account on the computer, checking Apple's website to make sure I have all the setup items correct. It's good. Updated software so we're using OS 10.6.1.
When the Mail app is open and you check mail, the spiky-shaped ball beside the Gmail account is constantly spinning, although no new mail messages need to come in. Everything seems to work fine, but it won't stop checking/spinning for new messages. What could cause this?

Does the Internet light on your modem/router pulsate the whole time this is happening? If not, then it's probably not checking for mail; instead, whatever processes it was running may have hung up and not terminated properly, such as waiting to login or terminate the connection to the Google server.
You can set the interval at which mail checks accounts for Mail, so if you have it set abnormally short (say, every minute), try changing it to every 5 or 15 minutes.

  • Cannot get new messages to download automatically and auto reply with out of office message have to manually check for new messages to get it to do this

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 31.3.0. I know how to create a message filter to set up an auto reply message, but cannot get Mozilla to automatically download new message and auto reply with the message in the filter unless I manually check for new messages, that is the only way to make it work. I have looked online and can't seem to find an answer to this particular issue. According to anything that I have found, I have the correct boxes checked in server settings: check for new messages at startup, automatically check for new messages, check for new messages every x amount of minutes. It's one thing to have to leave my computer on and Thunderbird open to make this work, but to have to manually check for new messages to get the auto response to work defeats the whole purpose of having an auto reply, as I use them for vacations, holidays, etc. I have wondered if there are any security settings that are causing this issue, but if so, I don't know what changes to make to them. Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy.

I do find it a bit odd that Thunderbird is not getting mail on schedule, perhaps you have an add-on or anti virus program that prevents that.
Holding shift while you start Thunderbird will start with add-ons disabled to check if mail come automatically.
Airmail is right though, use Verizons auto responder. This link might help with that http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/highspeed/account+tools/email+tools/questionsone/85621.htm#
You say that not having such a setting in Thunderbird is something that needs fixing. This idea comes on the whole because Outlook has such an option. what most people are not aware of it only works with Exchange server. There is no "vacation response" in server mail specifications so every server implements it differently.
Just as all cars have a radiator, you can not take any radiator and just put it in, they are subtly different even though they perform the same purpose. Same goes for the various vacation responders, They perform the same purpose but they differ between email server software brands.
Thunderbird leaves it to the server end to expose the functionality, as they are really the only ones who understand what they did. Outlook exposes the option and mostly greys it out.

  • Mail not checking for new messages in IMAP subfolders

    Hello everyone,
I am disappointed to see that Mail version 3.0 (912.1/912) displays the same wrong behavior as pre-Leopard versions in the way that it fails to check for new messages in subfolders on an IMAP account (it only checks the INBOX).
One has to manually open each and every subfolder and wait a few seconds to force a resync and display any new message placed there by server-side rules processing.
So far I had been using the excellent IMAPCheck (http://macapps.perniciouspenguins.com/imapcheck/) but this is no longer supported by 10.5.
Does anybody have a workaround for this? Or the power to bug Apple engineering enough to get this solved once and for all ;o)
    Thanks much,
    teedeepee

This problem is not solved for all cases.
This solution only applies to server-side filtering/redirecting of messages into imap folders.
I'm having trouble with client-side mail.app rules moving new messages into imap folders and not having the new message counts displayed.
This wasn't a problem in the previous version of mail.app.
Here's to hoping that Apple posts a patch to fix this problem soon...

  • Outlook for Mac 2011 doesn't bounce dock icon for new message

Under "Outlook Preferences -> Notifications & Sounds" I have the option selected "Bounce Outlook icon in Dock" for new messages. But the icon doesn't bounce when I get a new email. I'd really like for that to work - is this a known
issue or a local config issue?

    Hi,
Please first note that the option only applies when Outlook is not the active application. In addition, it appears that the icon bounces when you first select the Outlook application to open it. If you want the icon to bounce when new mail arrives
you will need to create a rule for that.
Since this forum is for general questions and feedback related to Outlook for Windows, if above doesn't applies, I'd recommend you post a new question in the forum for Mac for further assistance:

the problem is the Exclusive = Yes  indicator in the access sequence.
Your other message has this exclusive indicator as well.
so if the first  message is found, then no other message wil be determined
to allow several messages in one PO, you must not set this exlusive indicator

  • Why won't Mail won't look for new messages without opening up the app?

Mail doesn't automatically look for new emails until I open up the app. I don't get notifications and a badge doesn't show up. I always have to open the application for it to search for new messages even though I have it set to search every minute.

    Mail>Preferences>General:
    Check your settings.

  • How do I get Apple Mail to NOT automatically check for new messages?

Under General, I have it set to Manually, under each Gmail account (2) I have UNchecked the "include when automatically checking for new messages" under "Advanced", but it still checks automatically. Are there other settings that effect this behavior? I want it to ONLY check manually.

It seems to be impossible to stop the automatic push - I found another email client that permits me to access gmail via pop3, and that permits several things that Apple Mail is deficient in (as far as I'm concerned) - permits delete of email on Gmail without having it deleted on my laptop, and does not permit autpmatic push. I need access sto ALL my email under MY organization structure on my laptop, even when I do not have internet access, and Apple mail does not permit me to manage things my way (neither does gmail).

  • Mac Mail: Check for new messages doesn't work

    Hi,
In Mac Mail the setting at  "Preferences -> Check For New Messages" I have set for manual and yet Mail still fetches emails when I haven't asked it too. I previously had this setting set to check for messages every hour but it ignored that setting too so I set it to manual but this setting is ignored. Ideally I'd like to check mail every four hours but there isn't a setting for that.
I'm running Lion and have IMAP email accounts.
Any idea how I can get Mac Mail not to ignore my Check For New Messages setting?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Well I never would have found that out without some help. I saw the IDLE in the IMAP settings I didn't know it was a kind of PUSH / FETCH thing. Anyway I've got it on manual now and only seems to get emails when I send one or press the button. I've only changed it a little while ago so I hope this is actually fixed.
Thanks again it was driving me nuts!

  • Why does Mail 'check for new messages' despite it being set to 'manual'?

I want to only receive new email either once per hour or better still manually (once or twice during the day at a time chosen by me). That way I won't be bombarded with emails all day and can get on with my work.
So, I set the 'check for new messages' to 'manually'.
Nevertheless I get email coming in frequently. Possibly every time I send an email, it also checks for new incoming mail (I'm not sure but that's my hunch).
How can I stop Mail from pulling in my new incoming email?
Any answers to this? If I can't figure this out or it's not possible in Apple Mail, it might be time to switch (but I don't want to!)
    Thanks in advance
    Dan

    Thanks Linc, works great.
There should be a hint for this in Mail's preferences, underneath the 'check for messages' option

  • Mail constantly checks for new messages

Mail.app keeps looking for new messages even if I set it on manually or disable the update on the advanced settings of my accounts.
This results in a constant call on the servers and my IP being eventually blacklisted by my website hosting company…
Do you know where could the problem come and how to solve it?
