Make a white plate?

We are a print shop, if we need to print white, we normally just change white to a cream color, and know its white for making our Flexo plates. We sent a 5 color spot image to a digital house, that is going to output our label digital with an HP indigo. Well they told me they were going to charge me $50.00 to make a white plate. So i told them to hold their horses. Is this hard? Are they asking me to do somthing that hard?

If your file needs to be modified at all, $50 is still not unreasonable to do it. If your real question is why your file needs to be modified, one would only be guessing without knowing more:
You stated in your first post that the file is already set up as a 5 spot-color job.
Did you print your own color seps from your file to a PostScript device (or to PDF) before handing it off to the printing house? Do the separations come out correctly when you do that?
Indigo presses have been around for quite a while, and there are now several models with different capabilities. There are no "plates" involved, in the traditional sense. (That's why Indigos can cost-effectively do data-merged files.) Without knowing more about your file and the specific device it will be printed by, one cannot advise you. Why don't you discuss the specifics of the issue with the printing house?
My guess would be that on the Indigo, the opaque white might need to be an overprinting ink, in order to "back up" the CMYK inks used for the other colors, and thereby effectively make them opaque. That is, I doubt that they would actually set this job up as 5 spot colors on an Indigo. But again, this is just a guess without knowing the specifics of the job.

First let me apologize for posting a reply that was only suitable for advanced users. Photoshop is broad and powerful therefore has a huge learning curve. In fact I would state no one knows and uses all of Photoshop. When we first get Photoshop it intimidate us and we're very uncomfortable using it. Many thing are not intuitive there in much learning involved. After some time we begin to know something and we are able to do some thing. Learning become rapid and we start playing in Photoshop. It is very important to play with Photoshop. Playing with Photoshop and asking for help with in forums like this IMO is the best way to learn.
Photoshop Power lies in layers, selection and automation. However it takes knowledge to use photoshop well so most powerful tool you have ins Photoshop is the gray matter between your ears. Most at one time or another want to watermark or put a logo on their image. So its best to automate this process. All run into a problem in the process. "Size" We find our assets vary in size and aspect ratios. Landscape, Portraits, Panoramas and others. This complicates automation. Vector graphics works best when size vary greatly. If you can not work out how to create a vector solution like a custom shape. Create your Logo and watermark large thing scale down better the up. Text scale well for text uses vectors graphics however if you rasterize text it will not scale well.
I do not type or do English well so let me do some screen captures. I can not stress enough how important Black, White, Grays and Blending is when it come to image processing. Become friends with Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Luminosity blending.....
However when there is a white or black background though you can blend them you can not add a style like a drop shadow, emboss or make it invisible setting fill to 0 so only the style is visible. When there is contrast between the logo and background it is easy to separate the two. To select the background and delet it to have the logo with a transparent background. Many tools can be used to create the selection hee I use my action kill white.
Vector Shape would work better for scaling However it would be best to create the logo from scratch in a vector program like illustrator but I never had the resources to justify the Creative suite. I only had Photoshop. Recently Adobe gave me and other a year subscription to the creative suite for our participation here. I still have not installed anything but Photoshop, A while back I found a program that can create vector patf for black and white art work. It will not be as good as using something like illustrator. Use the color fill option - select the inserted .pdf and assign a fill color of white to it using the Color Fill Menu on the Toolbar or the Color Picker Palette.

How to make a white background Transparent

I would like to to select the blocks and enclosed data to copy and paste in a poster, leaving out the white background. In other words make the white background transparent.
This is just a plain low res jpg.
This seems like it would be pretty easy but not for me. Is there a tutorial that could guide me through this?

I'm probably not being clear about what I'm trying to do. Here's a typical poster. I use the magnetic lasso to select an image, copy and paste it resulting in this.
This time it's to be a team picture with small head shots of each player, action photos in the background, similar to this. I can do all that but I wanted the tournament chart to lay on top of the background with just the boxes and enclosed info showing. I know I can use the magnetic lasso or the poly lasso but I don't have enough patience for that.

i m contributor photographer in most microstock, i try to make a white backgournd with white object but with lightroom 4 it isn't possible, i think the program have probelm to select white object and white background, i see internet site microstock and there isn't a good photo.

You can't change it within the OS. There may be some apps which will do it. Search Dock on MacUpdate.
But all these types of haxies come with possible risk.

Please? i would really like a white itouch and do not want to buy another one, i think places like cellaris makes them white but could you give me other reccomendations? I have the 4th generation Ipod Touch in black currently.

How do I make a white box in my master page that's intelligent enough to resize on all my other pages depending on the amount of content?

I have a tiled background image but sometimes the white box only covers half the content and my tiled image is displayed under the other half of the content... Do I have to manually make the box for each page or is there a way to attach it to both the header and footer so it expands depending on how much content is on each page while retaining my background image in only the border areas?

Muse doesn't have that specific feature. However, in may cases the desired effect can be achieved by inverting how you think about it.
Using a 100% with rectangle with a fill image for your header and another for your footer, that leaves the page fill and/or background fill image to grow and shrink to fill he space between your header and footer. If you only want one column of your page design to have this effect, you may be able to achieve that using a vertically repeating background fill image for the page or browser fill (where the fill is a horizontal band the with color only where you want the vertical column to appear.

How to make opaque white transparent?

I have a JPEB, black words, hand lettered, on white.
When I place it into an InDesign doc, on a solid color, the white background, being opaque, covers the solid color.
How do I make that opaque white into a transparent background? Two manuals do not give me a clue.

No.. Photoshop transparency is automatically seen in Indesign for .psd files. All you need to make the background transparent in Photoshop.

Solution to make all white in background

Before I joined the company, they filmed in studio with white wall. Many clips that has one side dark and other side look good. How to eliminate dark side? My video clips worth 7 hours and dark side might be about 2 hours worth. Hope you have solution to remove dark side. Help!

My approach would be to make a mask out of it.
In After Effects (not sure if there's a motion equivalent) I'd change all the colors to a black and white ramp. Then I'd eliminate the gray and make it just black and white (pure black, pure white).
Then I'd reverse the colors and track matte it ontop of the original.
Won't be super clean... but you can get it darn close with a few tweaks to get the edges right.

There are a few videos done on this by the Kelby group. Basically, Create a levels adjustment layer, and move the right slider to the left, which would make more of the image go towards white.
Then create a mask for that adjustment layer. Use the selection tools to create a selection of the white areas of the eyes. When you are done, click on icon at the bottom of the layers panel that looks like a circle inside of a square. That will convert your selection into a mask. Make sure the adjustment level is selected before clicking the mask icon, as that tells the layers panel which layer to apply the mask to.
If for some reason the mask is backwards, the eyes are darker than the rest of the person. You can click on the mask thumbnail that was just created on the adjustment layer to make it active, then invert the mask. Invert can be found in the select menu .

Collage: How to make the white background invisible?

In the print module of LR5 my collages all include the white background when I export them. Does anyone have a link they could point me to that explains how to turn this off? Everything I have researched does not address this specificly.

You can make the background any color but not transparent. If you need a transparent background, for putting images on a web page or blog; you need to make the collage in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or similar editing software.

Does Apple make a data plate that can be affixed to the back of the MBP?

I recently bought a MBP for my college bound daughter. I know practically, if not all, college kids have laptops these days, not all have MB's. For ownership purposes, does anyone know if Apple makes a ownership data plate that can be adhered to the back of the MB without interfering with it? I would like to get something so my daughter can tell her's from others that may be used near her. I really don't want to keep replacing the MBP, like the pc-laptops that came before it. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

My daughter spent yesterday moving onto her campus and into her dorm. I was surprised at the number of MBP's in her dorm, on her floor, in her room. They seem to out number pc's, but that's just me counting. At the campus bookstore, MBP's and iPad's seemed to be out selling Windows-based machines 3:1. Hooray for Apple and the MBP's.
I bought and installed a security cable at her desk, much like other parents were doing. It is going to take a while for the freshman class to get used to keeping tabs on their stuff in these new surroundings, I'm sure! Hope the upper classes help them with their new away from home-life,mom & dad, and their siblings.

The new dark gray background of the firefox 6, is there a way to make it white again? It dark gray back makes it hard to view. PLEASE Help, or can get back to Firefox 5? Otherwise I have to change to safari. Can not stand the dark background!!

I have been a firefox user for quite a while and have loved it. I can't even count how many people I convinced to switch from boring old Explorer to Firefox, but after this latest update, I got so frustrated I uninstalled it. I just reinstalled it again in the hopes that you guys had "corrected" the background issue, only to be disappointed. I would love to continue using firefox, but find it very difficult to deal with the "new look" which puts a dark gray background on previously white background making visually unappealing and hard to read. Please tell me if there is way to change that or a way to go back to previous version, otherwise I will have sadly move to safari or chrome or heavens forbid explorer! Thanks.
