Make clean ADR sound like a large room

I'm a newbie to Soundtrack Pro and could use some help.
I have ADR that I need to adapt to sound like the live footage.
We recorded in a large, empty storage room with 3 metal and 1 concrete wall (wall info just for specificity).
I taped ADR in a small, normal room with the actor close to the mic. It sounds crisp and clean. It doesn't sound like the large room recordings.
Is there a specific effect, or a chain of effects I can use to create this sound?
Thanks.

Just an additional tip for the future, but try to get the same mic used in the original recording when doing adr, and avoid the temptation to mic it like it's a voice over, cause all the reverb in the world won't turn a very present recording into a location sounding one.
Having said that the previous advice is good.

Since I updated my iPad 2,it makes a shutter sound ( like its taking a picture) every time I close its cover,or even when I just set it down. Any idea on how to fix this? Thank you!

Omg, it worked! Thank you so much --- it's been driving me nuts for weeks now! The sound can get really annoying, lol!

  • Is there a way to make my guitar sound like other instruments?

Hey, I was wondering if there is some way to make my guitar sound like other instruments, for example a string arrangement, or a violin? I remember when I was little my uncle had an effects box that did this (he could make his guitar sound exactly like a violin!) but I was wondering if there is a software avenue to do this with. If not in garage band then what other program? Thanks!

you can use a Guitar to MIDI converter.
This way you can use a Software instrument in GB instead of the sound of your guitar.
I haven't any experience with these, so don't want to recommend one or another.
Here are a few I found googling 'Guitar + MIDI + Converter'
    AXON AX 100 MK II
    Roland GR33
    YAMAHA G50 Guitar MIDI Converter
    Shadow SH-075
You can also buy guitar with MIDI out built-in!

  • Make stereo voice sound like analog from 70's movies

Hi, I have a voice over that is recorded in a high quality, normal voice and I would like to make it sound like a voice from 70's movies. Sort of gritty, analog sound. What should I tweak in Soundtrack Pro?
Here are the examples of the sound I'd like to achieve:

    or
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP_7ZopT6oM
    or

    Many thanks

If I only had stock STP effects to use, I would attempt this with a combination of EQ, Compression/Limiting, and a tiny bit of Overdrive or distortion.
Use the EQ to roll off the high frequencies a bit, experiment with compression to get the right punch, and very subtle Overdrive to try to imitate the tape grit.
    Have fun!

  • I am making an short film and i whant to make a vocal sound like it comes from a bottle. Can someone help me?

I dont know how i am going to do it, I havet worked much in audition before so i dont know how to do it. I am guessing it is some type of reverb but i dont know whats the best and stuff like that. And thanks for the help .

How are you positioning the viewer/listener?  To be inside or outside the bottle?  How will your visuals support that action?  If you want some creative license and your listener is outside the bottle, add a slight whistle, or the low drone one hears as if you were blowing across it.  Add a notch filter to the fx rack and try the 60Hz Octaves preset for start.  That will add a little convincing whistle reflection to the voice.  If inside, then it's room small dynamics and playing with reverb, (as Bob suggests).
Direction also plays a roll when you change the angle of the viewer relative to the bottle.  That is, the voice is more clear if you listen directly overhead of the opening verses being muffled from the side.  A good starting point for a muffled effect would be to use the "underwater speech" present available in the FX rack.  It will load chorus, parametric eq and reverb into the rack, set to a good baseline to start from, and don't forget to add the notch filter at 60Hz for added effect.
When inside the bottle or listening directly overhead, disable the parametric eq for clearer sound, then add it back in when listening from outside, through the glass.  Give it try and tweak as needed.

  • Is it just me or did the new itunes make your songs sound like crap too?

I just got home and put on some music in itunes. I was taken aback by the horrid sound quality that came out. It seemed like every time the guitar would palm mute, the speaker would bottom out. I have Event studio speakers so I don't think it's them. What gives?

I have not heard any difference on my set-up.
I stream music via an Airport Express to my Hi-Fi and it still sounds as good as it did before.

  • How can I make my voice sound like Obama?

I am new to this software and I have a project in which I need to turn my voice into Obama's.  Any help would be much appreciated...

Software can't do this for you. It may be able to help a little by adjusting certain frequencies and applying a little pitch adjustment. But you have to find the correct delivery and tone to perform the voice. That's how impressionist acts earn their money.

  • Make guitar sound like bass!?

    Yo,
I need bass on my songs, but I don't have one!
Is there any cool effect I can use that could make my guitar sound like bass?
    Thanks
    James

I gave that guy the same pitch for a bass, but he was not inclined to spend the few bucks to get one, so he tried the vocal transformer, and said it worked great. I never tried it myself, but it could be a cool effect for some subsonic string bending

  • Logic Pro wanting to sound like 1958

I am recording a Rock Steady/Ska band that I play in. These will just be live 1 take recordings in our rehearsal space. I am treating the room with duvets very heavily and I will play around with the many mikes we have going through my Apogee Ensemble.
The Question. Any suggestions on how to get it to sound like it was recorded sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. The band does a great job already with their gear and exceptional playing but I was just wondering if there was a good mix of plugs I could use.
    Thanks
    -Allan

I've had a good success with recording a Rockabilly band wanting to make it sound authentic, but using just one mic (AKG C12VR) set to OMNI in front of the lead singer, with the band and amplifiers positioned around the studio behind him. And nothing else. Just light eq, compression, plate reverb and slap delay.
Surprisingly enough it gives exactly the right kind of sound, the double bass sounded distant and slappy, the drums sounded thin and roomy, the vocals sounded hugely above the mix. It all sounded like it was band playing in a room together in mono with loads of echo. Just the way they like it! Compared to the cd's they brought in to reference to, old 50's rock n roll and rockabilly it sounded just right! Of course you need more confidence in what you're doing to take this route. You need to know from the get go, that it's the right way to go. But when you see the band smile from ear to ear and say "FINALLY THE SOUND!" you know it's the right move and putting up more mics would be a mistake.
If it's your band then you have enough room to experiment to try something like this and it not matter too much if it doesn't come out right the first time around.
Personally if I wanted to make something that sounded like authentic ska, I'd look for a good condition 4-8 channel tape machine and use that, throw up 6 mics, ribbons where possible (as mentioned before), mix it quite roughly, the bounce it back and forth a bit, while doing some over dubs and it'll become nicely saturated and compressed. It'll cost about £300 for a decent tape machine and a load of tape, not much compared to your Ensemble!!!

  • I sound like Darth Vader...why?

I'm working on a laptop that had to have its hard drive cleaned out because of a virus and widows 7 re-installed from a recovery download.   Just intalled AA 1.5 and when I record every 10 seconds or so I sound like Darth Vader.  Do I have some kind of phasing problem?  Can't make any money sounding like this.   Any help will be at least a begining.  I have also downloaded a trial verson of AA 3, but the Darth Vader effect is still there. I hear the same effect when I take a breath.  In fact the softer I speak the more I hear Darth.   If I cant fix this my voice over career is over.

Well, if the problem is the same on two different versions of Audition, I suspect you should go back to things common to the two recordings:  your soundcard and Windows sound set up.
It's hard to be specific not knowing the details of your system, but open up any software that came with your sound card and see if there are any special effects enabled.  Some sound cards have tricky bits of rubbish to play with phase to make the stereo field sound wider for example.  Or you may have two recording sources enabled in Windows with a slight delay between them introducing phase errors.
Beyond that, it's hard to say without more details of your setup.  Posting an audio sample for the golden ears on here to listen to (not me!) would help, as would a list of your OS, sound card, drivers, mic, how things are cabled etc.

  • How to sound like a chimpunk on imovie08

I realize that there is no way i can make my voice sound like a chimpunk on imovie 08
so i recently transferred my audio to garage band and did that successfully on that program
so how do i save it now as a video file in which i can post it on youtube.

what I would do is upload the sound file you have into your iTunes. After this you can go to your clip in iMovie and click on the music note on the right side. This will display your iTunes library, from there you can select the voice you have which sounds like a chipmunk and put the voice into the video by dragging it. You will need to mute the sound of the video so that only the audio of the edited voice is playing. After you have finished editing this to however you please you can put it in a file to upload to youtube by selecting this: Share>youtube. here you will need to input all of your information.
Hope that helped, and best of luck.

  • 8830 with softward upgrade, sounds like a transform when i am answering the phone.

So wild, when someone call and I hit the green button it sounds like a that sound the transforms make. OR sounds like someone is putting their microphone upto a speaker. I wonder if anyone is having this issue also. 8830 on Bell Mobility, just got the phone as an RMA.
PS- this is my 5th unit this year so I am trying to make sure its not a software issue before I lose it on Bell and RIM.

See earlier post re TINNY SOUND ON 8800 AFTER SOFTWARE UPGRADE.
I've had problems since upgrading 8800 software from ver 4.2,  to ver. 4.5.  So far, no help from BB (RIM) or Rogers.
    Good luck.
