Make Freeze Frame--Grabs 5 Seconds Later

I'm not sure why this is happening, but every time I try to do a Make Freeze Frame of a particular frame in the timeline, it always pulls the image 5 seconds LATER in the timeline!! I've tried pulling the Freeze Frame from the Canvas window and the Viewer window with the same results.
Here are the specs:
Video is ProRes 422 (HQ) @ 25 fps. Timeline matches same specs with square pixels and no field dominance. The footage is exported from a Keynote presentation. However, when I sent the export I chose 30fps although the final footage came out at 25fps. This footage is listed in FCP @ 25fps and if I open it in QT it also is listed @ 25fps.
Any thoughts?

ProRes HQ is a heavy format. Make sure you are editing on a fast RAID and Mac. My guess would be the computer is struggling with the playback of ProRes HQ and by the time you hit your frame grad it takes a moment to process.
Instead of trying to do frame grabs on the fly. I would stop near the section of video you want to make a freeze frame. Then go frame by frame for an exact frame grab. Might be a little slower but more accurate.
In terms of your 25fps. Try re-exporting and confirm your settings are set to 30fps.

  • Make freeze frame without blur on motion

I want to make freeze frame on video but the problem is sign language signing make blur motion. I need to get sharp clear make freeze frame. Is there a way that can make sharp to make it freeze frame.
    video clip is 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Make freeze frame is for book so need to make motion clear? How?

Then there's not much you can do now.  It would have helped a little if you'd have used a high shutter speed on the video camera, but that's water under the bridge.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to find another frame where the hand wasn't moving then export both frames as s till image.  Open both in Photoshop and make a selection of the hand then copy that to the first still.

  • Make Freeze Frame - shows RED

    Hi there
I'm using FCPHD 5.1.2 on a Mac Book Pro 17" and when I create a Freeze Frame the clip shows up as red.
I've checked my Effects Handling and its set to Final Cut Pro.
Anyone have any ideas why I'm seeing red on Make Freeze Frame?
I have the latest QT installed and have the Viewer set to RGB and not RGB+Alpha.
I'm thinking this is a Intel problem, is anyone out there using a MBP or MP having the same issue as me?
    Many thanks
    Rory

  • Make freeze frame with filters effects showing?

I'm using the dvMatte Pro plug-ins to strip out the green screen and replace it with a different background.
Even if I render the entire project, if I take a freeze frame (while the canvas and viewer show the subject against the newly added background), the freeze frame shows the green screen.
    How can I remedy this?

Copy the clip from which you created the still frame. Right-click on the still frame in the Timeline and select Paste Attributes->Filters.
Or, open the clip in the Viewer and drag the filters onto the still frame.

  • "Make Freeze Frame" but for audio..?

If possible I'd like to end a sequence with a musical 'chord' that I would fade like a video 'Cross Disolve'/'Dip to Color Dissolve'. Does that make sense to anybody - apart from me? Any ideas as to how it might be done within FCE or perhaps with any other product? Thanks in advance.

that is not possible with the usual tools.
different to video, which is 25/30 'stills' per second, audio is an analogue 'wave'.. usual sample-rate is 48.000 'stills' per second ..
with some manual skills and excellent tools (e.g. Logic) you could 'extract' the last milliseconds of audio and 'loop' that infinitely .. no trivial task.

  • HDV timeline encoded out ProRes422: random freeze frames!

I'm working on a 30 minute piece, shot HDV 1080/30p (Canon XH-A1), in an HDV timeline. I need to deliver on SD DVD, and I've been trying to get a good encode by exporting using Quicktime Conversion, with ProRes 422 (HQ) codec.
    Machine is a G5 dual 2GHz, with 4GB RAM, running 10.4.11, FCP 6.0.4, Quicktime 7.5.
I've rendered the project on the timeline (once using ProRes for renders, under Render Control tab, and once using HDV), and exported using Quicktime conversion, using ProRes 422(HQ) and 'current' size. Both times the six or seven hour encode netted me a great looking, huge file (~40GB). Sweet. Except for this problem:
In one file, the whole thing is perfect, except this one spot, where the image is replace for several seconds by a freeze frame from like 10 seconds before the error. The second file does the same thing, in a different spot, only it does it three times instead of one.
I am pretty desperate, with a film festival waiting for this piece. If I can avoid it, I'd rather not tie up the computer with another encode, unless I have some idea it's not going to give me the same (or worse) result. I'd like advice on what to do...
At this point, I'm wondering what if maybe it makes more sense to encode my QT file from HDV instead of ProRes... or maybe scrap that and try to build a frankenmovie by patching together the good bits from the two huge Quicktime files in DVD Studio Pro?
What troubleshooting should I be doing before the next step: Disk Repair, Permissions Repair, Prefs Trashing, etc.?
Anybody seen this problems? What is my next step? Thanks for looking!

FYI - I went through and recreated each freeze frame and it's working now. No idea why it was doing that, but some of the freeze frames were made from setting speed to 0%, others from Modify-Make Freeze Frame, so maybe that had something to do with it. It didn't happen on every freeze frame, but the problems didn't correspond to how the freeze frames were made either, so no clear answer. On second round, I did every single one with the Modify-Make Freeze Frame command, and now it's rendering ok. Fingers crossed.

  • Render or export substitutes random video for series of freeze frames

I've got a sequence that seems to act ok until I render or export to QT, at which point random motion video is substituted for the freeze frames I edited together to create a sort of stop motion animation. I tried trashing the 3x preferences I know, tried a new sequence, tried a new project, tried digitizing the material again (originally brought in as HDV, but I brought it in as regular old DV after I thought that might be the issue.)
If I keep the series of motion fx simply nested, it acts ok. If I attempt to put a widescreen mask on it, it looks ok until I render. I tried a workaround of exporting the un-masked sequence out to QT to try and bring that back in and mask it, but the QT also fills in with the random motion video bits.
Any ideas? I'd happily trash prefs, etc. again if someone's had a similar prob.

  • Trouble with making a freeze frame?

    Hello All,
I need some help with something I'm trying to do.  I have a short clip in my timeline that I have color corrected and added some filters to.  Then I move the playhead around until I find a still picture that I like and then I go to Modify>Make Freeze Frame and then I move the still from the viewer over to the section that hold all the files.  The trouble is that when I make the freeze frame FCE is giving the version before I did color correction or adding the filters.  How do I get to make a freeze frame that has been color corrected?  It's showing me the raw version before I've done anything to it.
    Thanks for your help.
    MIke

When the freeze frame is created in FCE, it is only from the master clip (with no filters applied).  Simply drag the filters that you applied to the clip to the new freeze frame.  The filters will be applied with the settings you made.

  • 16:9 Freeze frame

    how to 16:9 Freeze Frame?
It have 16:9 DV and resulting image as a PSD with QT Export is 4:3
sure I can cmd-T > transform it in photoshop in a 16:9 template but isnt there a more elegant way.

The simplest method to make a freeze frame from the Timeline (or from another video source in the Viewer) is to choose the frame and chose the menu item "Modify > Make Freeze Frame" (shortcut "Shift N") which will load the current fame into the Viewer as a freeze frame the duration of which is set in "User Preferences" and at the aspect ratio of the source. In Final Cut Pro it will be displayed at the correct aspect ratio so no need to convert.
If you are talking about exporting a freeze frame out of Final Cut Pro as a still then it is a different thing.
The PAL frame is 720 pixels x 576 pixels and this is the same for both 4x3 and 16x9. But the 16x9 image has an anamorphic horizontal squeeze on in it. To see it un-squeezed on a still image simply change the horizontal size from 720 to 1024 pixels in Photoshop and Bob's your uncle.
Not 100% sure for NTSC but I think it is 720 pixels expanded to 853 pixels? No doubt someone can correct me here if this is wrong.

  • Imovie11 splitting clips and freeze frame problems

I am having a problem with imovie11 splitting cips and using the freeze frame function.  When I highlight the clip I want split, it splits a different clip either on the line below it or somewhere else in my project!  Also, my freeze frame function freezes the frame where my playhead is BUT doesn't split the clip...so what I'm left with is the entire clip- then the freeze frame - then the continuation after the freeze frame.  Is there a fix for this??

Remove any in or out points you have on the timeline. Place the playhead at the frame on the timeline you want to freeze, and then select Modify > Make Freeze Frame, the freeze should appear instantly in the viewer. You can then click the Overwrite button, and the freeze should now be placed on the timeline in the correct place.
    Is this not happening?

  • Freeze Frame Into Timeline?

According to FCP's help, once I use Modify:Make Freeze Frame, I can drag it onto the Timeline or Vrowser.
Neither works. It does either or both of two things when I try to drag it from the Viewer into the Timeline: It simply moves the image's position within the frame to way off-screen, and/or it crashes FCP. The crash seemed more likely to happen if I held the mouse down in the Timeline window for a while.
I tried copy and paste too; that didn't seem to work either.
    Am I misinterpreting those instructions?

  • Freeze Frame problem

I have been trying to add a freeze frame at the end of a movie but the frame created is not at the end and it causes a jump. Is there an easier way to create a freeze frame rather than right clicking

Al is right, you should check with the FCP forum.
But the same happened to me with FCE HD 3.5.
    So I have 2 hints:
    - was the timeline selected (no clip selected in it) before Make Freeze Frame ?
    - as a workaround you can make a temporary sequence were to set the clip(s) with filters, drag this sequence into the main timeline, and apply Make Freeze Frame to that. This worked with me.

  • Freeze frame and video monitor

i played the timeline sequence and watched on a video monitor where some freeze frame pictures made from clips (moving images) vibrate. is there method to change ways in which i make freeze frame so that it does not vibrate/shake when viewed through a television monitor?

    Hey
Your going to want to add the filter called de-interlace. Click on the freeze frame in your timeline then got to effects, video filters, video, then de-interlace. That should do it
