Make hald ignore a USB device

I'm having a problem with hald and probing of my usb connected smartphone. The problem is that the probing causes the smartphone to attempt to sync with the host computer. I'm using synce to syncronize my smartphone but if fails to connect if hald is running and has provoked a connection attempt. Can I disable this behaviour for just one device (/dev/ipaq)?

I've got a Windows Mobile smartphone (Samsung i700) that works pretty well with synce. It just refuses to work while hald is running. I  need hal because it makes my 6-in-1 card reader work correctly by probing for filesystems. I think that perhaps it's this probing behaviour that messes with the smartphone sync.

  • USB devices disappear after using Apple TV

When I Option-Click on the Sound icon in my menubar, all of the USB microphone/headset devices show up. It's how I switch from headset to headset.
However, if I use my Mac to play itunes through my Apple TV, all of those USB devices disappear from the menubar's Sound Icon. And none of them work: sound comes only through my computer speakers.
Restarting the Mac doesn't fix it. The only fix I've found so far is to completely unplug the Apple TV (to end the wifi signal), and then restart the Mac. This makes all of the USB devices appear again, and are all chooseable.
    Anyone else see this behavior?
I'm running a "mid 2010" Mac Pro tower, GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, and 10.9.1

I get this all the time w two ATV on the same wifi network.
First called "Apple TV", the second called "Living Room".
I see on ipad and iphone "Apple TV (2)" as one individual item. It looks like if finds "Apple TV" then finds the second one, but aggregates it into "Apple TV (2)".
Randomly, it will sometimes show two seperate ATV links in the airplay options, then revert back to "Apple TV (2)" as one option in airplay.
Is definitley a bug in airplay software.

  • Satellite L50-B suddenly didn't recognize any USB devices

My laptop suddenly didn't recognize any USB.
The USB sticks or external hard drive does work on other computers, but not on my laptop.
    Only SD-cards are recognized.
I've tried to delete the usb-portals on the control panel, but after restarting my computer the all came back again.
One does keep popping up with an warning that it doesn't work, but when i search for a new program to run it, it can't be found. After deleting it, it comes back with the same warning.
I've also tried to download new drives (chip set utility) but that doesn't work either.
I don't know what else to do.
Can anyone help me so I can have access to my USB-products again on my laptop?

    Hi,
No not even an USB mouse works. I haven't changed any settings at all.
I also haven't installed new OS. My laptop came with Windows 8 and I'm still using that. If i'm correct I have USB 3.0 ports. I have the preinstalled OS.
A friend of mine advised me not to do the system recovery cause usually this does more damage than it recovers anyhting. I've got the laptop for just two months now so I want to keep it as good as possible (obviously though).
So there is no other driver installation I can do to make my laptop recognize usb-devices?
Still so confused over why this happened. One day everything was working just fine, the other day nothing worked anymore...

  • Hi there, can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac Mini? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? Thanks in advance, Grtz T.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • How do I make Lion wake up when a USB device is plugged in?

I'm having this issue on a MacBook Air, but I assume it would occur on a MacBook Pro as well.
What I want to do is to use my MacBook with an external display, and have the lid open so I can use the keyboard/trackpad, but have the MacBook display turned off. There are two obstacles to doing this under Lion:
    1. You can start the laptop in clamshell mode with an external display attached, but opening the lid will make it go out of clamshell mode and turn on the MacBook display, going into dual screen mode.
    2. Since I don't have a wireless keyboard, the trick that I was using in Snow Leopard to wake up my MacBook was to plug in a USB device. This doesn't work anymore in Lion.
Issue 1 has been resolved by this post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16059565#16059565
But I'm still looking for a fix to issue 2. Any help would be appreciated!
PS The solution to issue 1 in the thread above recommends running this command:
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
I would imagine there's probably some kind of command that will fix issue 2 as well?

Are there any web interfaces for LKML? I dislike mailinglists; the last one I subscribed to randomly stopped sending messages to me after about an hour. I might try usenet; there are some good-looking groups on there I think.
Also, I'm sure there has to be a way to do this outside of udev. I mean, if udev can be made to work without using like 30% CPU (which I'd imagine would be what would happen if it polled every 1 second, which is what I'd want it to do), I'll use it, but what about thinking outside the box a little?
I mean, my first thought was to write a kernel module that responded to dmesg at the kernel level; dmesg doesn't update all that often, and I could run through all the lines I recieve and look for, for example, my PCI ID and a signature telling me if it was added or removed. I just have no idea how to do that.

  • [Solved]Automating a script for a usb device on systemd?

    Solution:See 3rd post by 65kid.
Ok I'm trying to learn how to automate the execution of a script I wrote to run whenever a specific usb device is plugged in. In this case a usb flash drive with a specific partition identified though UUID following the path /dev/disk/by-uuid/specified-partion's-uuid.
Basically the script uses rsync to update a snapshot of my system which I made bootable on this device. following the guide given in the wiki on full system backup using rsync I edited the --exclude options to ignore the contents of my /boot/ /etc/fstab and /etc/mkinitcpio.conf since the fstab entries, hooks array and initramfs and kernel images generated with them needed to be changed so as to make this snapshot bootable and adapted for use on the usb stick.
the ultimate goal is to have a bootable snapshot the can be updated with whatever changes have been made with my system(i.e. pacman -Syu updates, config changes etc...) while leaving out the important things needed to have the usb still bootable afterwards. I've already succeeded at getting the script to work but I have to mount it manually then execute the script myself and I know that it works afterwards as I can still boot from the stick afterwards.
This is not a question about rsync (which is why the script isn't posted here), to repeat myself, It's about how to execute ANY custom script whenever a specific device is plugged in. More specifically when a storage device with a certain uuid is detected after the device has been plugged in. I believe it may be different for running pure systemd and so that was the reasoning for having it mentioned in the subjects title(if I'm wrong then correct my understanding). If anything a few pointers on where to look would be appreciated. I've been googling and reading the wiki a bit with nothing specific on how to approach this. If an example of the script is requested I'll post it but it's not relevent to my question.
For a general veiw of my setup regarding external storage volumes I do not automount anything as I do not use all the things I plug in in the same manner. Some of the stuff I do requires them to be unmounted or  mounted to different mount points(specified by me). The script handles the mounting part by itself just fine. The idea I have is to run it automatically when the flash drive is present. Any suggestions?

he is probably referring to this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 2#p1113682
imho this is way different, the SYSTEMD_WANTS tag is completely ok to use. yes, he may be mounting the drive from the script, but imho he is not "exploiting" anything here. I personally don't see a much more elegant way to do this.
these automount udev rules were however crappy and hackish. They were created by people who are like "but udisks is bloat!!1!" and whoever wrote them didn't really seem to know what he was doing because, for example, unmounting a device after it was unplugged from the system is completely non-sense.

  • N97 MTP USB Device

Before I upgraded my N97 Firmware to 21.01.045 My pc windows 7 saw my phone as N97 when i would open a window to explore the phone contents, and when I would copy a video onto my phone it would convert it when it's copying it onto my phone automatically.
After the update-I had problems when ever I connected my phone to the pc USB, telling me the MTP USB Device failed.
But then all of a sudden few days later the MTP USB was successful but it again saw my phone as N96, BUT NOW it does NOT copy the videos as it used to, I have to go through Windows Media Player to transfer videos to my phone.
    Inconvinent...

Solved by repairing installation of Nokia Suite. I'm using version 3.3 of nokia suite on a windows 7 ultimate operating system. Needed this step to update firmware. After many attempts I finally overcame this problem by going to control panel>uninstall a program>scroll to nokia suite>select uninstall/change>dialog asks if you want to repair or uninstall>select repair.
*Please make sure of the fllg:
    >phone must be on
    >MUST be connected in PC Suite mode - If your phone tries to connect to internet or wlan, keep hitting cancel till it asks you to select (PC Suite) mode.
    >Windows may try to install drivers and you'll see MTP usb device installation Failed - ignore for now
    >Make sure the internet connection on your PC is active
    >NOW do the repair-install as described above
    >During repair windows will again install your device drivers, and this time you should be good to go
Hope this helps someone, and saves them the many hours I took to get this right.

This is not exactly an enlightening answer for a typical Linux user. I too
am having difficulty installing this under Debian Etch.
Linux distributions are made of components, the name on the label is a
little meaningless (in my years of experience with Linux, I am yet to find

the same tools). So what components exactly does this driver depend upon ?
What am I missing here ? Is it my custom kernel (this is a Debian Etch
system) or some bug in the supplied drivers ?

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551dn - Optional USB Device port

Hi, I'm hoping to buy the optional wireless print server (HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server J8026A). There is one problem though, the optional USB device port seems to not exist on my printer. I only notice that the USB logo is present where the port is supposed to be. The plastic in the area is squared off as though it is some sort of break away tab and the port is underneath maybe.
There is no reference to this in the manual anywhere and I am really unsure how to proceed. I don't want to damage anything.
If someone experienced with this model (preferably an HP Employee) can confirm the availability of the port and tell me how to access it (Is it a break away tab?). Part of the reason why I bought this printer is the optional Wireless N print server.
    Thank You in advance.

Thank You for your reply. The port you are talking about is the front panel port for walk-up usb printing and firmware upgrades. This port is indeed available on the higher end LaserJet 500 (NON-MFP, printer only edition) as I just used it to upgrade the firmware. The port I am talking about is the one on the left side in the ports section which you use to plug in the optional print server (not the computer I/O port).
This is shown in the official manual and the spec sheet so I'm 85% sure the port is there, hp can't advertise and mention something that is not available as this would be a big problem and make the 2700w print server incompatible when it clearly states that it is. I just need someone to confirm the availability and clear my confusion (either from HP, or another owner who bought the wireless print server 2700w).

  • Ipod not recognised by Windows, USB device not recognised

    Hi hope someone can help
I have recently received my ipod back from Applecare who have sent the ipod back in ' working order ' but it will no longer be recognised by my windows. It says USB device not recognised and i cant find, nor will it install drivers that i located on the ipod updater etc.
I have tried several methods on this forum but none seem to work.
The letter from mycare says the iPod is formatted for a computer operating Mac OS X. Although i stated wi use Windows. But the leter states this can be changed bu installing the updater, but this wont make a diff as comp still wont regonise the device after i have followed there instructions. Any advice?
    Thanks

I'm not really up on the complexities of the Windows OS but try this tip I picked up a while back, hopefully it might help.
"USB Device not Recognized in Windows".
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

Searching on the web, most results I found lead to this page, where it is said that the problem is due to badly tuned overcurrent protection, and advocated that unplugging and switching off the computer for a little while gets things back into normal. This does not really work for me; the problem seems to occur more randomly, unfortunately with high probability (my camera is available after less than one boot out of ten).
I tried to ensure that the ehci-hcd module is loaded at boot with the ignore-oc option (with a file in /etc/module-load.d/), to no avail.
I also wrote a script which alternatively removes and reloads the ehci-pci driver until my device is found in lsusb. It is sometimes helpful, but usually not. And even when my device is found that way, it can only be used for a while before disappearing again.
Anyway, such a hack is unacceptable... So, my questions are:
is it indeed related to overcurrent protection ?
is there anything else I can try ?
should I file somewhere an other of the numerous bug reports about "unable to enumerate USB device" already existing ?
If of any importance, I am running linux 3.15.7, because at the time I installed my system, I couldn't get the hybrid graphic card Intel/AMD working under 3.16.

  • USB device keeps disconnecting/connecting after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have a device(Pedal for Sim Racing) connected via USB, everything is working fine in Windows 7 and 8 but after upgrading my machine to Windows 8.1 the device keeps disconnecting and connecting for like every 2 seconds. But after I open the Property Sheet

I'v got this exact same problem with my Win 7 desktop.  I've also got pedals and wheel but don't see it as different than all the other USB devices.  I'm using a bunch of USB, but no hubs, including 3 external storage hard drives. But the momentary
disconnect appears in all devices as best as i can see..even my long time trouble free head phones..keyboard..and all.  Sometimes the sound goes away and if I unplug and replug them the sound comes back, and other times I have to exit and re enter the
game. I also get video crashes ..maybe not related.IDK..and have to restart all, because I've got three black screens in Eyefinity. For years my system was trouble free and its just slowly started getting worse. I've thought it had to do with system "sleep"
etc but long ago went to never sleep max performance etc..Makes no difference. Keep thinking its my hardware or my house wiring etc..But can't seem to solve it. I replaced my Mobo/chip/ram maybe 6 months ago and that appears to have not helped.  It seems
to be getting worse. I hate to start replacing parts piece by piece..cost a lot of money and sometimes doesn't help.
When I'm playing a game I can often hear "faint" sound of USB connect disconnect happening with regularity..that little bing/boink sound etc..So it must just be constantly happening...Seems weird. Didn't have anything like this happening years
ago with pretty much the same hardware and same Win7 with the continuing updates etc.
What can be causing this common problem?

  • How can I see my USB device in the measurement&automation explorer?

I'm trying to use an USB-device with LabView7.0.
I followed the manual "using NI-VISA3.0 to control your USB device" which I found on the NI-webpage.
I generated an .inf file using the VISA driver developement wizard and installed it in the INV folder of my system (I'm using Win2000).
The following problems occured: after I connect my USB device the "add new hardware wizard" pops up and aks for a driver for the new hardware. when I direct it to the folder with the generated .inf file it doesn't accept this file as a driver.
second: the USB device doesn't appear in the measurement&automation explorer. I assume that as long as my device doen't appear there it is not recognized by NI-VISA and the comm
    unication from LV wouldn't work?
How can a make my USB device visible in the meas.&aut. explorer?

    Tobias,
In the VISA Driver Development Wizard, you are required to specify the Vendor and Product ID. These numbers are what Windows will use to determine whether a specific driver is appropriate for a given device. If these numbers do not match between your device and the Windows driver (INF file) that you generate, you will see the behavior that you describe. Check to make sure that you are using the appropriate values. Also, did you right click on the INF file and install it as directed in step 2.2.2?
Page 5-87 of the VISA Programmer's reference manual specifies how to do a viOpen to a USB device in RAW mode, but you still need the same sorts of Product ID and Mfg ID that you needed for the INF file generation. Furthermore, if you are communicating with
your instrument directly, you will need to know exactly what command set it expects, so make sure you get that from the manufacturer as well. Finally, I want to mention that if this device complies with the USBTMC standard, then none of this is necessary--the steps above are for setting up a RAW USB connection. See this link for information.

"HP Laser M1522NF the USB device attached to this computer is not recognised and has Malfunctioned"
This error is not on printer but on my computer when I connect the printer USB cable.I have 3 laptops all have winxp installed on them.I have tried connecting the printer with all laptops and they all give the same error with reference to connecting usb printer cable and Malfunctioning.
Appreciate your gracious advice and guidance in this regard,
    Many thanks

Is this at an office and you are logged in not as an administrator?
If that's not the case, then the message maybe true, that it did malfunction, and need to be serviced. (assuming you already tried power cycle the printer, making sure doors/trays are all properly put in.
