"make install" not working

Whenever i build some program that uses autotools (./configure, make, make install), it compiles fine (after i satisfy dependencies of course) and running make install (as root) succeeds, the program is not available to me. I've tried this with a multitude of programs and i run "sudo ldconfig" after the make install and...nothing, it seems the only way to get these programs to install is to quickly create a PKGBUILD for them, but that's a bit too much work for something i want to test our real quick or something for personal use only. Also, it seems that this does not happen on the one application i tried that uses python and setuptools for build/install.
Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the user. I'm so used to doing PKGBUILDS at this stage that it's easier for me to do it that way. I find the advantages far outweigh the trivial amount of work involved.

No. If you set up the "Find my iPhone" service on the phone before it went missing, log on to http://www.icloud.com. If it's still online and hasn't been wiped yet, you can lock it, wipe it, trace it's location, from there.
There is no other way to do it.
Report the theft to your carrier and the police.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the wifi button is grayed out and you are unable to toggle it.
I recommend trying the steps in this article:

Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.

I've done some research on the SQLite database. Whenever Aperture hangs up (like during auto-stack or opening the filter hud) there are thousands of SQLite queries happening. These SQLite queries cause massive file I/O because the database is stored on the disk as 1kb pages. However, the OS is caching the database file; mine's only 12MB. I'm trying to track down some performance numbers for SQLite on osx but having trouble.
It's starting to look like most of the speed problems are in the libraries that Aperture uses instead of the actual Aperture code. Of course, that doesn't completely let the developers off the hook since they choose to use them in the first place.
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the database is completely open to queries using the command line sqlite3 tool. Here's the language reference http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html

CC desktop install not working

to start I'm on windows 8.1. I've been trying to install the trial for illustrator because I plan on buying the whole collection, but wanted to make sure it worked well first. Apparently it does not. I downloaded the install tool and installed it. I then started the install for illustrator. I stops somewhere between 42% and 48% every time. I've been given various instructions on what to do about it( restart app, restart computer. uninstall run cc cleaner tool and reinstall, smash head against desk restart and try again, everything i can find in the forums on what to do to fix it) please help me

Hylianpirate I would recommend reviewing the installation log files to determine the error message preventing the installation from completing. You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover.

Install not working (ver 10.1, firefox, Win7 64)

Kept downloading and running updater, as admin, no antivirus, on my new 64bit Win7 laptop. Installer always reports success, but the Player remains at ver 10.0.
Eventually downloaded Adobe's uninstaller, ran it, it removed ver 10.0. Rebooted. Ran installer. Open FF, no flash content displayed.
Installer is simply not working.
Please let me manually install this browser plugin. Links to the files please. The installer is crap.

Seamless Install not working for installing Air runtime

hi - is anyone else having this problem today? it was working perfectly for me yesterday but no joy today. The air.swf is still loading in correctly and works fine if you already have the Air runtime installed. But once it tries to install the runtime, you get "A download error occurred. Try to download again?" I've checked it on a couple of different air app sites and its not working anywhere. Anyone else experiencing this or have any suggestions about how to fix it? Thanks

10.4.3 Server Install not working on Quad2.5!

A customer purchased a Quad 2.5 and a copy of OSX Server retail. The Quad requires 10.4.5, Apple does not seem to have a new install of Server. (10.4.3 is all I can find) Any suggestions? I am thinking of installing on an older G5, as a stand alone server, and then installing the updates and imaging over to the Quad. Anyone tried this before?

On the Mac OS X Server installation disk, open the folder Other Installs and then double-click the item MacOSXServerInstall.mpkg inside; this will convert an existing Mac OS X client install to Mac OS X Server, and can be done on a system where Mac OS X Server cannot be installed directly. If this is done on an Intel Mac, the resulting configuration cannot be updated any further and Software Update will not work. More information is available in this article.

CS4 Install not working. Laptop crashed. New download link sent yesterday. Downloaded, but install will not work on new laptop. Help?

Laptop crashing. Purchased new. Had 30 day free trial of CS4. Activated and used that.
My serial # would not work when prompted for it.
Yesterday, chat session helped me to download the software again. Download took 3 hours so chat session ended before install could be completed.
Today I rand the install.
The first time the session ended with a "failed to install" and a list of programs (all of them).
Second and subsequent attempts result in getting to the "Cancel/Install" screen. Message says "Preparing to install" but nothing happens for a significant amount of time.
Please advise. How do I complete the install? I do need to use this software very, very soon.

DAnderson which operating system are you using on this laptop? Did you transfer/migrate/copy over your files, folders, and applications to this new computer?

NCM 1.5 fresh install - Not working...

Fresh install of NCM 1.5 and launching it is not working. The documentation was not helpful (Getting Started, User Guide, etc.) and did not have any troubleshooting. Where are the logs located? Anyone been through this before?
Basically, I install and update to SP1. After reboot I launch the browser to go to Admin Settings and it says page cannot be displayed Thanks for any help.

What platform? Solaris, Windows, Redhat?
What are your server specs (CPU, RAM, disk)
Are you using the embedded mySQL database or going with external Oracle or MS SQL Server?
Could you install NCM 1.5 fresh and then try to access the system without installing SP1 first?
You want to see that you're accessible on the base product... Get another account in there besides admin. Maybe add a device or two (but don't go crazy). Once you've validated the base functionality, then an upgrade to SP would be good.
We need to see if this is an issue with NCM 1.5 (FCS) on your platform or with SP1...
On Solaris install logs go to /opt/CWNCM and /opt/CWNCM/server/logs
Should be in similar base directories on Windows.

Quick Install not working on Vista - how can I transfer pdb files to/from my Zire 31?

I have been using Hot Sync to transfer contacts, calendar etc, but am unable to transfer my database files (pdb format) to/from my Zire 31, as the QuickInstall program does not work with Vista, and I am not aware of any other method of transferring these files.
Can anyone help?

Oops, sorry for the bad link (the must have changed it). For some reason, I can't create a valid link to the article...grr. But you can also get to it by entering Solution ID # 43851 at the bottom of the Palm Knowledgebase.
To move the file from the card to your Zire's memory, use the Copy function in the main Menu. That is, insert the card. Open the menu from the main Launcher (home) screen. Select Copy, and you should be able to select the card as the source.

Adobe Acrobat X Unattended Install not working

I created and Windows bundle to install Acrobat X via a custom msi and I removed the "qn" switch. I used the Acrobat customizer to customize the install, to include unattended install but show progress bar and prompt for reboot. If I run the file on a PC locally it works fine, but the bundle makes the user go through the dialog boxes with all the correct settings already in place. With the /qn it works. I want the users to see the progress. Yes, they're too dumb and/or lazy to use the Zenworks icon to check the progress.

UPK 3.6.1 silent install not working

Trying to install UPK 3.6.1 in a corporate environment using Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Office 2003.
I ran the install and created a response file as per the installation notes, accepting all the program defaults.
Now when I try to perform a silent installation that uses the setup.iss file, the setup log returns "ResultCode=-3" and the app does not install.
Wondering if anyone can suggest what to try next.

Hi Jason,
A couple questions:
1. Have you tried installing on more than one machine, and is this happening always, or just in some instances?
2. Are you trying to perform the silent install on other XP SP2 machines, or are these different OSes? The response file should be made for identical OSes.
The ResultCode=-3 is saying that "Required data not found in the Setup.iss file." I have a feeling that the environment where you recorded the response file had all the necessary third party applications installed, so that dialog was skipped during that "recorded" installation. It would have been a dialog after you selected the installation option (it's not listed in the dialog list in your response file, so that's why I'm figuring that machine was up to date).
So, when you installed on the next machine with the response file, the setup.exe was now looking for this particular dialog in the response file, but it's not there. For that response file to work, you need to make sure the environment where you are using it has all the third party apps installed before running the silent install. If you look at the main installer location (where the setup.exe is) there is a "Third Party Files" subfolder, with all the third party apps UPK uses. Install those on these machines before running the silent installation.
If any of these are not already installed, install them:
.NET Framework 3.5 (in DOTNET folder)
MS Visual C++ 2008 Runtime Library (in MS_Visual_C++_2008_Redist folder)
MSXML 4.0 (in MSXML_4.0 folder)
MS Primary Interop Assemblies 2005 (in Primary_Interoperability_Assemblies_2005 folder)
Web Service Enhancements 3.0 (in Web_Services_Enhancements folder)

ITunes install not working

I just bought an ipad2, installed it on my pc (Windows Vista Business) and when I try to start itunes, it goes to the "agree" with the terms page. I agree and then it closes and never continues. I uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted. Still same result.??

I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):

When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

Help Plz! Re-Install Not Working

I am trying to do a full erase and re-install of Leopard 10.5 on my 2008 macbook (the OS it came with), so I can have a fresh system and update it with Snow Leopard.
I've backed up everything I need, I just need to do a full harddisk erase and install-as-new.
I've followed the instructions on wikihelp and apple however nothing is working. I insert Disc1, click on "Install Mac OSX and Software.app", click on Restart, and the computer just restarts as normal, spitting the disc out half way through as it goes into normal start-up.
I've tried holding down the C key. I've tried holding down the CMD key. I've tried both together. Neither makes any difference: the disc gets ejected and the system loads up as normal, no option to install or select languages as if new etc.
I've tried doing this from "root account" and I've tried doing it from "myusername account"; nothing happens other than a standard restart.
Please advise on how I can resolve this and not go around in circles. Thanks in advance.

My OSX has years of built up crap - programs I've had but later deleted (although probably still with system files scattered about); my Apps folder has all sorts of outdated stuff I want to completely remove and then re-download with Snow Leopard so I can use the latest version instead of outdated stuff on 10.5 (plus my hdd is a couple of years old, so I figured the fresher I can make it the better use I'm likely to get out of it for a while).
I've backed up all my documents etc, so I wanted to have a totally fresh system to install Snow Leopard on, but my 10.5 Leopard disc just keeps getting ejected, and the system starts as normal let alone giving me any option-choices for types of re-install.
