Make iPhoto open by default when I plug in a SDHC

I have a canon camera and when I plug in the SDHC card from it the default application to open is the Canon software. Is there any way to make iPhoto open by default?
I can't find an option for this anywhere.

Yes, it is called "Connecting camera opens", I can't believe that I missed that. Thanks.
It would make a lot more sense to me if this was in an appropriately renamed System preferences : CDs & DVDs. You could rename it "external media".

• IPhoto opens on mac when iPhone plugged in

Everytime I plug my iPhone to my MBP with Yosemite, iPhoto opens. I have the iPhoto preference "connecting camera opens with:" set to No Application. I don't believe there is any other preference for connection of phone devices anywhere, there used to be an option in sys prefs but this was migrated to iPhoto way way back.
Anyone know a way to solve this? I may try trashing my library prefs but don't want to do this if there is another workaround.
Thanks

History window opens by default when i open a new window or restart firefox. How can i get rid of that ? its annoying

If the History sidebar is closed when you close Firefox and doesn't stay closed on the next start then that can be problem with the file localstore.rdf in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
(caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
Note:
Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.
You can rename "localstore.rdf" to "localstore.rdf.sav" to test if that solves it.
Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.
• Anyway to not make iphoto open everytime you plug in i phone?

it is getting really annoying that everytime i dock the iPhone, iPhoto opens, i dont mind itunes, but for christ's sake, i thought i flipped on the option to only sync selected items.....

iPhoto is transferring pictures that you've taken on your phone to your iPhoto library. If you don't take any new pics on your phone, then iPhoto won't open.

• How can I prevent iPhoto from auto-launching when I plug in a card reader?

When I plug in a card reader, iPhoto assumes that it is being summoned and auto-magically launches itself. I don't want this to happen. I don't want iPhoto to ever launch without my permission, which I might grant once a year or so. Yet, every day I have to cope with it launching multiple times as I attempt to transfer photos to my hard drive. It is a minor annoyance, true, but it is an annoyance.
My question, then, is how can I make iPhoto stop doing this? I've searched its settings high-and-low, but to no avail. I've searched the System Preferences high-and-low, but to no avail. There must be something I'm missing.

Hi John,
the next info is on using Image Capture to download the images. In the preferences though, you can choose to have nothing open when the camera is connected.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

• Need iPhoto not to open w/IPhone when I plug into sync

I am using new 3G iphone and MacBook Pro. Whenever I plug in cable to sync, iPhone opens. This happens even though I am not syncing or using photos in master settings on iTunes.
I checked under "Applications" in iTunes, the Preferences in iPhoto and the System Prefs ... but have not found where can you deselect having iPhoto "see" the iPhone as a camera and not open upon plugging in the iPhone to my Mac.
Thanks

The computer is supposed to recognize the iphone as a camera. You can set iphoto not to open when a camera is connected, but it will not open automatically for any camera.
Depending on the version of iphoto, you can set this up in image capture or in iphoto system preferences.

• How do I disable iphoto from automatically launching when I plug in my iPhone?

Trying to figure out how to disable iphoto from automatically launching on my Macbook Pro every time I plug in my iphone via USB cable. Tried looking at preferences in iphoto and itunes, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks!

It is your preference in iphoto.
Set it not to open when a digital camera is connected.

• How can I disable the auto start up of iphoto on my computer when I plug in my iphone?

Whenever i plug in my iphone 4s, my computer automatically opens iphoto. How do I disable it?

yeah that's what I used to do before I updated to snow leopard. Now it does not have the same menu options which is why I am asking.
It is not in image capture either.
Read the other forums on this topic, I don't seem to have those choices anymore.( general> connecting a camera) does not appear in window.
I cannot figure out where this is.

We have a MAC OS X 10.6.8

THANK YOU! I've been having the same problem, and the solution you linked to worked perfectly for me. Somehow, my computer's sharing name had been deleted. Once I put that back in the file sharing preference I was able to reconnect my external drive without all Hades breaking loose.
This problem came on the heels of an aborted attempt to use a new Time Capsule (not ready for prime time) which I had to drive 50 miles to take back and replace with a new WD My Book -and I was afraid I was going to have to repeat the trip to take it back as well.

• Windows 8: Make PDFs open by default in Acrobat Standard or Pro instead of Reader

In a Windows 8 environment, how can you set set all PDFs to open in Acrobat Standard or Professional instead of Reader? I've tried right-clicking on a PDF in Windows Explorer, selecting Properties, then changing the default app from Reader to Professional. Although it seems to work (does not generate an error), PDFs continue to open in Reader. Surely there is a way to change this. I've spent about 15 minutes Googling this, but was surprised I could find no solution.

The steps have not changed across versions.

• IPhoto opens spontaneously; not related to plugging in iPad or iPhone

I've researched the archives and similar questions have been answered but mine's a bit different. iPhoto, which I never use, has started opening everytime I wake the computer and sometimes spontaneously while I'm working on my iMac. Not related to plugging in my iPad or iPhone; it just started happening randomly about a week ago. It's annoying, particularly since I rarely, if ever, use iPhoto.
Thank you.

when instaling itunes it didnt become my default player, now that i want to make it a default player its asking for me to choose and extension but from what i see all the extensions are checked and right now window media player is my default player...

You can change which program operates respective file types by changing your Default Programs setting from within the Windows Control Panel. I believe you will find this article Microsoft-provided article helpful:

• Does it make my battery die faster when i plug it in the wall(every wall charger)

i was jut asking myself if it hurt my battery when i charge it on the wall because sometimes it get really hot....i used to plug my old ipod touch in a wall charger that came with my rechargeable AA battery... does it make my battery die faster?

It shouldn't, no, not when using the correct charger. The charging circuitry in your iPod has a cutoff to stop charging when the battery is completely charges. If you're using some other charger, though, that provides a different current or, worse, a different voltage, then you may indeed hurt your iPod. I'd strongly suggest you use only a charger such as the AC adapter that came with the iPod, that is verified to be compatible with your generation of iPod touch.
