Make iTunes window behave as other windows!

I've installed the Virtual Desktop Manager powertoy from Microsoft for Windows XP. I can use win-1/4 to change between four different desktops. Everything works just fine except that iTunes sticks it's ugly window INTO EVERY SINGLE DESKTOP. What makes it even more fun, it usually sticks the window as the frontmost window on every desktop, and my iTunes window takes up 90% of my screen space, so you can guess how much work I get done. None whatsoever.
Sure, I can minimize the window, the maximize it again when I need it, and keep flipping it back and forth, but why would I go through all that extra trouble when I can just as well use some other music player that actually behaves nicely in my system? I have tried several of them, and they all work the way they are supposed to, only iTunes does what it wants.
So, when can we expect a properly coded version of iTunes? I assume my problems with iTunes screen updating and fonts getting screwed up are related. Remember, that your software is not the only software running on the computer. If it won't do what it needs to, it will not run on my computer for long.

>I find Audition great
Yes it is!
>1.Is there a way to make a track shrink or enlarge with the mouse scroll as in edit. I find it really annoying when all it does in the multitrack is scroll up and down between the tracks.
You are scrolling in the window you need to place your mouse over the vertical bar on the far right of the screen and then scroll
>2.I can't seem to click on a track in the multi track and get it to play from there. I have to drag the play marker to that point
Right mouse click on transport control (play button) and select play from cursor to end of file.

  • Why did Apple make iTunes 7 look like a Windows XP App.?

Why did Apple make iTunes 7 look like a Windows XP App.? This version of iTunes doesn't even look like it belongs in OSX. It's ugly is about the only way I can put it. I can't figgure out why they removed the EQ icon and didn't even assign a key command for it. Now yoy have to go into the menu to select it. Also I have noticed that it sometimes downloads the wrong artwork for album covers. The old version of iTunes seemed much better and I have reverted back to it untill Apple fixes the problems with version 7 and makes it look like part of the OSX family of applications.

Well I wouldn't say it was ugly but some changes do leave something to be desired.
I certainly aggree about the equaliser button and the visualiser button has gone too but at least they assigned a key command for it. The scrollbars need more colour and I'd prefer the buttons at the bottom to stand out a bit more like the ones at the top.
I see no reason to go back to iT6 though, especially as I would misss Cover Flow. You could have a long wait for a change of interface and in the meantime you miss out on the good parts of iT7. If your track information is correct and identical to that on the Store then it shouldn't get the wrong artwork. Luckily I already had most of my album covers in place from other sources such as Amazon and just used iTunes to get a few more. My only complaint about the Get Album Artwork feature is that it's getting it from the US store when I want it from the UK store.
Anyway these forums are really here to enable users to help each other solve problems and not to discuss Apple's decisions. If there are things you want changing then do what I and others do and send constructive criticisms and requests via the link below, if you haven't already.

  • Active Window Appears Behind other Windows on W2K8 R2 RDS Server

We are using a W2K8 R2 server running RDS and Xenapp 6.5. While using IE 10 and selecting the print option which calls the Crystal Reports Print Control 14 download control for IE 10 the print setup window appears behind all other windows. I have some
other applications that place the active window behind other windows. I tried the reg fix but that didn't work.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As you have commented the issue appears from single user, so try to delete the user profile cache and see whether it can resolves the issue. Also you can remove all the permission assigned to that users for a try.
You can delete user roaming profile cache as follows.
To resolve this issue, add a REG_DWORD value named DeleteRoamingCache to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DeleteRoamingCache
Set the value data to 1.
After this restart the system and try to login on system and also try to login faulted users on other system to check the result.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

    Hi All
During editing I notice my canvas window blown up and take over the entire 20" screen. The only way to get all windows back on desktop is tput the mouse all the way to the top of the screen and click on the menu bar. All the window will pop up then but wnen I click on any window the canvas window again will overtop all the other windows.
I am not sure what to do at this point. I would like some help please
    thank you
    sabrina

Mouse up and get the fcp menu bar. View>arrange>standard
That should get you back in thew ballpark. If this just happened all of a suddden it's time for you to use fcp rescue or attic. Search this forum for them, read about them, download and use.

  • How do I make itunes purchased music compatible with Windows Movie Maker?

Windows Movie Maker will not accept the itunes format and I cannot find a way to convert the files. I need to convert the format to any of the following accepted formats: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
    Please Help!

If your iTunes Music Store purchases are 128kpbs protected (with digital rights management) AAC files, they cannot be directly converted to other formats. If the files are 256kbps unprotected iTunes Plus AAC files, you can convert them as desired for your personal use.

  • How can I make floating options windows behave like probe windows in LV 5.0?

    Hello all,
I'm trying to use subVI's as small floating windows that appear and disappear on command. These windows provide access to controls that trigger functions in the calling VI.
I've already achieved this by calling the subVI's (which are set to be front most) continuously in the main loop when I want to see their front panels and then closing them when I don't want to see them using the close function in victl.llb.
This works, but there are some problems. The title bars of the floating front panels flash continuously when there is more than one panel open and if two panels overlap then the overlapping regions flash. Also, when I operate controls on the calling V
I (window maximized), the floating panels disapear. I also tried using invoke and property nodes with the same results.
I realize that this is because only one panel can be in front at any one time, so while calling them in a loop keeps them visible it also makes them flash and disappear behind the calling VI when I click on it.
Is there any solution to this? Is this addressed in LV 6i?
What I really need is for those floating windows to act like probe indicators. Is this possible?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
    thank you,
    Louis

There's an utility called LVWUTIL32 at http://zone.ni.com/devzone/explprog.nsf/6c163603265406328625682a006ed37d/ebf11dd1f0feaef3862566790072a983/ that has a vi to make a window topmost, with one difference, if you execute it once, the window will be topmost even if you click in the window under it, and it will be so until you revoke this option with another VI. In my system, no flashes were detected.
    Hope this helps

  • Can my Mac pass Windows viruses to other Windows machines on the network

System Adm is telling me that I cannot connect my Mac to the school network if I am using a private line that is not passing through the school firewall because I could infect his network. Is that truly the case?
    Thanks,
    todd

In addition to Graham's excellent information (I may be repeating some of it).
You can spread these by sending infected documents or e-mails to other users.
Completely true. If you receive Windows malware on your Mac via email, it can't do a thing to OS X, but you can infect a Windows user by forwarding that email with the attachment still intact.
Running Microsoft VirtualPC for Mac exposes your Mac to all Windows viruses.
True, but not quite the way it reads. VirtualPC is for running Windows via emulation on your Mac. The Windows environment can be infected the same as any Windows PC. It cannot expose your Mac to those viruses. More specifically, they cannot in any way infect OS X.
Macro viruses, such as those written for Microsoft Office products, can infect your Mac or destroy data.
Yes and no. Macro viruses tag along on infected Word documents. I have yet to see or hear of one that can do anything to OS X. So like email Windows malware, you simply become a carrier. When you get a document with a macro virus and you ignore the warning to open the document without loading the macro, it will infect your Normal document (Office X or 2004) the same as it would in Windows. From then on, Word on your Mac will infect all documents you save. One way to avoid that is to set the preferences in Office to never load macros. The other is to disallow macros to load when you open any document that has one (Word will ask you what you want to do). If Office 2008, macros have been removed from the program. You can't infect any new documents, but I don't know if opening a file that already carries macros will be stripped. It may just save them with the file again when you save an existing file with your changes. As far as the last point? No, Word macros cannot destroy data on your Mac. They are all written for Windows and will not run in OS X any more than a Windows program can.
Implementing Boot Camp and installing Microsoft Windows on your Intel®-based Mac exposes that computer to the same threats as running Windows on a PC.
Completely true. Windows is Windows. The hardware it's running on makes no difference. The Windows partition on your Mac will be exposed to all Windows malware as a Dell would be.

  • Windows XP X OTHER Windows

I've runned a Vi that generates some senoidal signals and used the Extract Single Tone Information.vi to retrieve the amplitude. I runned the Extract Sngl tone 1000 times to measure the time to run that. Here is what I got:
    1.Dell Dimension 4400 P4 2GHz Windows XP - 0.235ms
    2.Compaq PIII 733 MHz Windows 2000 - 0.060ms
    3.Compaq P4 1,5Ghz Win 98 - 0.054ms
    4.Compaq PIII 1GHz Win 98 - 0.042ms
    5.Dell Dimension 4400 P4 2GHz Linux - 0.040ms
Is windows XP that bad ? Any clues ?

    Clues maybe, answwers no.
Is there anything else going on with the XP system? make sure there is nothing else runnign at the same time.
You shouyld also do the the Loop 1000 times more than once. Their maybe some over head invloved in loading things up at first.
Hmmm 1000 X 0.236 ms? It took the XP 3.5 minutes?
You aren't doing any screen updates or anything are you?
Make sure you are timing only the loop, and not accidently timing some other fuction as well.
XP "should not" be that bad.
There has to be another reason.

  • Browser shuts down when I close a window, even if other windows are open

I don't usually use more than one Firefox window at a time (I use tabs extensively, and have selected to force new windows to spawn as tabs), but yesterday I dragged a tab to open an extra window to compare its contents with the tabs in the first window. When I later closed this ''second'' browser window, Firefox acted as if I had closed ''the last remaining'' window, it ran the shutdown-procedures (I saw the SyncPlaces plugin uploading to my server as it should on browser shutdown) and then shut down completely.
Same thing happened today when I closed a second window which was opened by a website gallery I clicked on. I have been running 6.0.2 since it was released and haven't noticed this before, but now I can replicate it over and over.
There is no hang, the process exits fine, I have to launch Firefox again and the session is restored as per my settings. Providing a crash ID since I woke up to a crash report today, it happened during my sleep. No idea if it's related. I'm a front end web dev and need Firefox to be on top of its game all the time. Would appreciate any assistance on this. Thanks!

Well I chose to close my 6 tab groups (saved the sites as bookmark groups instead.. could be a useful archive-feature), and delete all history & cache, restart... problem sadly still exists.

  • New window open behind other windows?

I'm apple clicking links to see them in their own window. They are coming up behind current windows, shouldn't be other way around? shouldn't they come in front of current windows?

    Hi Kevin,
Yes, they used to. Not sure why Apple changed things but now you need to set the following pref:
Safari Preferences -> Tabs -> Select tabs and windows as they are created -> Check this
Even if you have tabs turned off for apple+click, this preference still alters the new window behaviour.
Hope that fixes it for you.

  • Itunes 7.0.2 for windows gapless playback?

Hi when ipod is connected, windows formatted, 30gb video, itunes crashes when calculating gapless playback information. Anyone know how to turn this off? or to not make it crash? running windows xp service pack 2, on a dell inspiron laptop p4 1.8ghz, with 256 RAM.

"Check for content files with issues"
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
This is typical computer advice (from Apple, not polydorus)--it puts the burden on the user to add their music files, ONE AT A TIME, to figure out which one is causing the problem.
If Apple is monitoring this forum, wouldn't you think they'd release a nice little utility that would scan your folders for the things that makes iTunes choke?

  • Firefox causes other windows to disappear visually

If I have a Firefox window open and then have another window up on top of it, sometimes the Firefox windows causes the other window to disappear and I have to minimize Firefox or the other window to bring it back up. Firefox is cause the other window to disappear only, it does shut it down. It seems like Firefox causing a memory issue, but I'm not the expert.

I am currently using Firefox 13; I'm on the Beta Update channel and get downloads as they're issued.  I remember having some problems with Firefox 12 and, in fact, earlier Beta versions which is why I stayed away from them.  However, Firefox 13 seems to be working OK.  You might try to find it at the Mozilla website.
