Make Key Photo on iPhone

Is there any way to change the key photo that displays on an album on the iPhone? I know on iPhoto you can do this by holding down the spacebar when the photo displays on the event thumbnail. Is there any way to do this on the iPhone? I have several albums, but every time a new photo is added, it becomes the key photo.

There is not a Key Photo option with iPhoto albums.
There is a Key Photo option with iPhoto Events only.
An Event's Key Photo should not change after an event is transferred to the iPhone.
When I add an additional photo to an iPhoto album that was previously transferred to my iPhone followed by a sync, the additional photo added does not become the photo shown for the album when viewing the albums under Photo Library on my iPhone.
With my iPhoto albums, I have manually selected for photo sorting with iPhoto so I can manually sort the photos in an album in the order I prefer. The order of photos I've manually sorted with an iPhoto album is retained after the album is transferred to my iPhone.
The iPhone's Photo app CANNOT make any changes. The changes are occurring when the album is transferred.
What is your selecting for sorting photos within the iPhoto albums you've selected to be transferred to your iPhone? Does the first photo available in an iPhoto album in iPhoto selected to be transferred to your iPhone appear as the photo for the album on your iPhone?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • IPhone wiped. Key photo in events wrong

    Hello all
iPhone 4s with current software. Snow Leopard 10.7.4, using iPhoto 11
Been having problems with iPhone 4s decided to wipe the phone completely to start fresh. At same time I created a brand new iPhoto library with all new Events and new assigned key photos. With the new iPhoto library there wasn't any iPod cache folder when using the Show Package Contents option.
After setting up the iPhone from being wiped, I synced it to iPhoto. All of the pictures transferred successfully to iPhone however on many of the Events it is showing the incorrect key photo (on the iPhone, but in iPhoto it is correct). The only thing that didn't change is the iTunes library.
I've unchecked/checked the sync Photo option in iTunes then resync'ed still same issue. I've deleted the iPod cache folder in iPhoto then resync, same issue where certain events is displaying the wrong key photo on iPhone.
    Any ideas?

Key photos are a feature for events in iphoto, the tv does not work with iphoto the way it does with itunes.

  • Set Key Photo on MacBook Pro, not reflecting on devices - 10.10.3/8.3

I don't believe this has worked previously, but I was hoping for the new updates to Photos (10.10.3 update) and iOS 8.3 that the Key Photos would work better.  I've selected the Key Photo on the Events album on the MacBook, shows correctly no problem.  When syncing photos to my iPhone/iPad, the photo for the album shows as the first picture no matter what - why wouldn't it show the key photo??  I've also tried adjusting the albums on the MacBook so that my key photo is first, but still shows the "first" photo which is now 2nd in the event, even tried removing all photos from the devices and re-syncing, no luck.  Anyone have any ideas how to make key photos on the iPhone/iPad??  Any advice is much appreciated!!

How the key photos and such things are decided on the Phone or Tablet, is a matter for the app on those devices. I'd ask on your Phone or iPad forum. I would point out that while the various apps on the various devices do speak to each other, they do not have the same features.

  • Can I change Web Gallery "Key Photos"?

In the album overview, I have not been able to figure out how the album chooses the "Key Photo" that represents the album.
I haven't experimented fully, but it seems that a Key Photo from an Event made into an album follows to the Web Album, but I have several albums and smart albums I also need galleries of.

Oops, there it is. "Make Key Photo" from the "Events" menu.

  • Key Photo Attributes?

I have a picture in a Gallery folder created by combining two other photos. The rest of the pictures are photos which have been cropped or resized.
When I try to set the composite picture as the key photo the choice is grayed out. The other pictures appear to be OK as possible key photo choices.
What attribute(s) make a photo eligible or NOT for use as a key photo? Why should a photo which is of the same file type and about the same size not be eligible as a key photo choice?
    Jerry

    Thanks, but Nope!
At first I thought this answer was, at least, partly correct. Then I remembered I had created the image by combining two different images (Blue Angels in blue sky and a sky with puffy white clouds) in Photoshop. I then imported it into iPhoto. When I tried to make it a key photo I saw that *Make Key Photo* was grayed out.
I then learned I could set an image as the *top of the pile* by dragging it to the small icon in the upper left of the Gallery page. In that way it works, but still would like to know why it's grayed out.

  • I can't change the Key Photo!  Help!

I have a stack with 2 photos - I've clicked about 100 times on the photo each of the photos and selected - Make Key Photo - and when I collapse the stack, it's still the same key photo on top. Am I missing something? I thought when I selected Make Key Photo, the key photo on top would change.

They key photo has nothing to do with the "pick" of a stack. The left-most (pick) of the stack will be on top.
Forget about the key photo -- that's just what's shown for a project in the "All Projects" view.

  • Selecting Key Photo in Faces

Is there a way to make a photo a key photo in Faces similar to the way you can make a key photo in events?  For some of the people in faces, the pictures appearing are years old, even baby pictures.

Yes, and pretty much the same way. Move your mouse across the Face icon to scrub through the pics and when you see one you want then right click and choose 'Make key Photo'.

  • Change Key Photo on Faces?

How can I change the Key Picture on a person in Faces? It is possible in Events to change the Key Picture but not in Faces - why isn't this possible or will it be in the future?

    Joe
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
scroll across the Faces in the cork board display until you see the one you want and hit the space bar (just like in events) or display all the faces and right click (control click) on the one you want and select "make key photo" from the contextual menu (just like events)

  • Set Key Photo?

In iPhoto I select a photo in one of my web galleries and right click.
Then I can select "Make Key Photo". But it never sticks. Online I see the photo I selected for a half a second and then it changes back to the first in the set.
This happens whether I view it in Safari or Firefox.
I created a new user account on my computer, started the whole process from scratch and it still does the same thing.
    OSX 10.5.4
    Intel Mac
    iPhoto 7.1.3
Anyone know how to make this feature work? Thanks. -Derryl

I have the same problem. I've tried a number of workarounds, including:
    1 - renaming the albums,
2 - renaming the image file name so it's first alphabetically.
3 - I even deleted the image that WAS the default key photo. The image is now deleted, but the gallery is STILL showing that image as the key photo (after clearing the cache).
I haven't deleted the albums because there are a number of them, and I'm not sure I have all the photos.
    Very frustrating.
Please let me know if someone finds a solution for this issue.

  • Is there a way to make the photos app key photo the same as on iPhoto for mac?

I set the key photos on the computer (latest OS) and they are not the same on the phone (latest iOS). I have noticed this has been an issue for the past major software updates on the iPhone. Does anyone know of a method to make them match?

I can see that becoming pretty annoying, Garrett611. We do try extremely hard to make sure you get a reliable signal in as many places as possible. Since there are places where Wi-Fi is available but there's factors beyond our control that decrease cellular service, Wi-Fi is a great alternative! If you go into Verizon Messages > Menu > Settings > there is an option to Sync Over Wi-Fi only when connected to Wi-Fi.
