Make multiday event span multidays in Month view

Hi all,
New Macbook user here, trying to organise iCal.
If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view?
I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events.
Or if it, are there any mods/addons etc that can enable this?
thanks!
MR G

MR G,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
My iCal shows the multi-day event in the month view.
Have you checked the "all-day" selection in the info window?

  • All day event not appearing in month view

If I know there is an all day event on a day and I click into it from month view it is there. But for some reason I cannot see any of them from moth view. There is no colored or gray bar indicating an event.
There is one in week view. And if there is a timed event it appears in month view.
In a separate, and puzzling, event I lost all my events. Putting them back in, but not sure if this happened with 1.4 or new Facebook update.

There is an old thread on this issue. Its by design that all day events do not show up in month view and not a bug. Many users (myself included) would like this to change. I suggest using the feedback and feature request page to let them know.

  • Do not show dots for 'free' events in the calendar month view

I wish I could.... not show dots for 'free' events in the calendar month view. For an overview of when I have hard-scheduled events in the calendar it's pretty tedious and slow to go day -by day, and other views... Instead the dot  in the month view... - why does it show even "free" events? Any ideas, tips?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately there is no option to disable the dots.

  • Multiday event should span days in month view

    Hi all,
I have an event that spans multiple days (begin is Dec 3 @ 12 AM, end is Dec 6 @ 12 AM), but it only appears in one day on iCal's month view. In week view, the event spans all three days.
How can I ensure that an event that spans days +actually visually+ spans the days in month view?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

Is there not any other way. I to have events that are not actually whole day events but that are spanning mulitple days.

  • Apple Calendar Options: Make only major tasks appear in month view?

I'm a big fan of the Apple Calendar App, but there's one thing I've been wondering about. I like to schedule my days down to the minute to maximize my efficiency, but I don't want all the details of my daily routine crowding up my month-view calender, which I tend to reserve for major events (exams, events, etc.).
Is there a way to make it so that only events or tasks flagged as important are displayed in the month/week views even though I have a lot of routine stuff outlined in daily mode? If there isn't, it'd be great it Apple would consider implementing this as an option. I love iCal and don't want to have to juggle multiple calendar apps, but unless I can do what I've described above I'm afraid I might have to.

Unfortunately, no. There are many 3rd party cal apps available in the App store - possibly one or more can do this.

  • Why events look foggy in monthly view ?

I'm new to iCal. Like it very much, excellent piece of software.
I'm using it in Monthly view only.
On thing bothers me, it's the foggy look of the events. Clicking on event makes the background color bright. Otherwise it's foggy. All my events are 'all day' events highlighted in different colors(diff. calendars)
Is there a way to keep it clear ? or that's how it is ?
    Thanks!

    Thanks,
System Pref. will change the look of the fonts for the whole system.
It's only in the iCal. It's not the font, but the look.
It's like a translucent filter on top of the calendar. So when I single click the event, then the 'filter" turns off over this event and the background color turns real and bright.
The other events on that day remain foggy.
For example, if the color supposed to be Red, then in normal view it looks light red. Clicking on it, then it turns the real red.
Maybe this is supposed to be like that ?
I don't know, because for me it's first time

  • ICal events not showing on month view

    Hi everyone,
I have been facing a strange problem with iCal: some events (random), despite they sync fine with my gcal, will appear only in day or week view, never in month view. This is extremely annoyning as one can miss an appointment or book two meetings at the same time. Anybody got this problem and found/know a solution to this? Thanks a lot
macbook pro, lion 10.7.2 iCal 5.0.1

    Hi again:
I just found out a simple solution for this issue. The problem is certainly an iCal bug and hopefully this will be fixed soon.
So, I just clicked on iCal preferences, set up monday as the starting day of the week and voila! The events are just there!
However, if you set it back for Sunday, events will be hidden again. Let's wait for this fix.
    Cheers.

  • Times of events not shown in month view

I'm thinking about using iCal instead of the calendar i've been using, but I find that it has what seems to be a serious drawback: In the month view, the times of the events are not listed. How do you deal with this? Does it present a problem?

    Hi John,
You should be able to set iCal so you can see the start times in month view. I can't remember exactly what it says in 10.3, but go to the iCal menu then Preferences and it should be in there.
    Best wishes

  • Can't event to iCal in Month view

When in month view I can't add a new event.   I can do so in week view.

    Rocky,
Try the "Find and resolve duplicate fonts" link in Mac 101: Font Book.  Also try changing the "Refresh Calendars:" interval in iCal>Preferences...>Accounts.
If that is not helping, download and install OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo).
USN...that was the best graphic I could find.

  • Events over multiple days only show on the first day in 'Month' view

    Hi,
I've noticed that if I create an event that spans over two days (for example 23 May 2008 at 6 PM to 24 May 2008 at 1 PM) are only displayed on the from date in Month view.
This is unfortunate because if I look at my calendar in Month view, I think I'm free on the 24th, when in fact I'm busy until 1 PM.
Is there a way to get the Month view to display an entry for the event on both days (other than creating one event running from 23 May 2008 at 6 PM to 11:59 PM and a second from 24 May 2008 at 1:01 AM to 1 PM)?

    Hi Sam
I just had the exact same problem the other day. I was asked to make an appointment with someone, I checked my calendar (actually on my iPhone) and I looked available that day so agreed and even entered the event. Turns out I will be working 70 miles away on the event I entered on the day prior. I've had the embarrassment of having to reschedule - makes me look disorganised.
The month view on iPhone is just the same as iCal - if it's not an 'all day' event it only shows on the first day. This is poor. I recall even outlook and windows mobile calendar manages to display this sensibly. Apple should be fixing this pronto.

  • Why won't iCal display multi-day events in month view?

This is frustrating. If someone sends me a calendar event that lasts multiple days from Calendar software that ACTUALLY WORKS  (hint hint hint Google Calendar, Outlook), and if I accept this event, it only displays the FIRST DAY of the event in iCal's month view. It should put a solid bar through every date included in the duration of the event. How is it that this has not been fixed yet???

    Bug or design flaw?
Try setting it as a recurring event (yeah, I know, it's not a great solution, but it gets the job done)

  • Lion: Is it possible to fix the behavior of New Event in Month View?

I desperately want to be able to choose the default length of new events added while in month view.
I view iCal in Month View and I'm often adding events for next week rather than the current week.  When adding a new event while in Month View, iCal assumes the event is all day long and there's no preference to change this behavior.  To change the event to the length of a typical meeting, you have to:
    Double click the event.
    Then click EDIT.
Then click to deselect the "ALL DAY" checkbox.
Click to enter a new time for the event to start.
Then click a new time for the event to end because iCal assumes the event is 8 hours long.
If the event you're adding starts after 4PM, you're going to have to change the end DATE too, because iCal assumed the event lasted into the next day.
MY GOD!  All of that, just to add a 1 hour meeting at 4:30 next Tuesday.
Sure, I could use the new + button to add an event at a specific time, but for that 4:30 meeting, iCal still assumes the meeting lasts until 12:30 the next morning, which means a ton of click click clicking to edit the event iCal got wrong in the first place.
I realize I can type out the specifics in that silly bouncy New Event "+" box...  but it's annoying to have to type all of that when, previously, all I had to do was double click next Tuesday and type "Meeting with john" and set the time to 4:30.
The new iCal is infuriating.  I'm especially shocked that clicking "New Event" in the menubar doesn't open a new event to edit.  Instead, it opens the silly bouncy "+" box.  If I wanted that, I'd have clicked in the stupid + box!  I'm downright shocked by the poor UI decisions in the new iCal.  I assumed this stuff would be fixed in 10.7.1.  Obviously not.

Sadly, I didn't.  iCal is click intensive these days unless you type everything out and get it exactly right, including some things (like which calendar) that you don't get the opportunity to set the first time.
The solution is really simple.  Double Clicking on a day while in month view shouldn't create a new day-long event.  It should open the gray edit event pop up box so I can create a new event with the correct info the first time (which calendar, notes, etc).  The current way is to create a new event and then double click THAT to fix it.
For example: Want to create a new event using your Work calendar?  Unless your Work Calendar is your default or the last calendar you used, you can't.  You can only create a new event using whichever calendar pops up, and then you have to double click the event you created so you can fix it.
Using the + sign popup box for inputing using native language works when what you need to do is simple.  The moment you want to create a new event that isn't dead simple, you're lost in a sea of extra useless clicks to acomplish what should be a simple task because there is no way to get it right the first time,
I'm not convinced anyone at Apple uses iCal on a Mac these days.  They probably use iPads, which is why they don't realize how much of a step backward the new iCal for Mac is.

  • Only 5 events show in month view?

    hi
how come only up to five all day events show up in month view on certain days?
that cannot be right, can it??
i have checked pref's etc and cannot fix this.i get the events, then just an elipse/dots for the other events on that day.
when are they going to get iCal right? google calendar seems to do everything, why not ical??
    can anybody help??

I deleted all entries and resynced. Works fine now. And I found a ghost entry that is only vissible on the iPhone not anywhere else. That one might have been the problem.

  • Color Text in Monthly View, and event time

Before Mavericks, I preferred events text in Calendars monthly view to match the calendar's color.  Now only a dot before item is not as disticntive.  Is there a way to have event text match the dot's color?
Also, I miss the ability to show event's time in monthly view.
    Bill

I had the same questions as Bill3; and am still searching for a third-party replacement (thank you Apple for all of the "upgrades" to packaged apps!).
Now we've left the whole skeuomorphic trend, only to hamper usability?  #1- Function; #1.2- Form (it should be close, but still secondary).
An option to put the timestamp to the left of the appoointment?  More than just a tiny colored dot?  Shading for the duration of an appointment (especially if "Busy" is selected)?  Month heading centered, or even left-justified; instead of right-justified?
I work 12-hr shifts, so tend to live in Month View vs Week or Day--just so pumped about degradation of usability.  As annoying as the leather/paper look was, at least it was usable (and with a few tweaks, gone!).
Sorry.  Just sad to see changes made for the sake of change, rather than improvement.

  • What happened to event times in the monthly calendar?

I upgraded (not really) to Mavericks and there are numerous issues; mail showing headers and no content, safari pages open completely jumbled and an essential calendar feature, event time in the month view, is gone.
Apple seems to be dumbing down it's systems for personal use while flipping the bird to corporate users.

    Hey there,
You can get the times to appear in regular (not full screen) view as well - just grab the edge of the calendar and drag it out to the left or right a bit; the times appear automatically at a certain window size.
