Make Netlet run automatically when login on

In Portal Server 3 the Netlet started automatically when a user logged in. Is it possible to set up this in Portal Server 6 as well, not having to start the Netlet manually by pressing one of the Netlet links?
- Morten

Hi,
Yes, it is possible. Use static Netlet rules.
If this for some reasons doesn't work - use dynamic
rules and start Netlet automatically via JavaScript on
desktop page load.
Cheers,
Alex :-)

As John said, there is no mechanism to receive notification of import. The likely recourse is continuous polling (unless you get very creative..).
You can try optimizing. e.g.: every second (or less), see if the count has changed, if it's gone up, something's been imported, if not then probably not (check anyway once in a while..).

How do I save the custom metadata with the image file?
Lightroom 5 has the limitation, plugin  cannot link the custom metadata fields to XMP file or save them with image file.
So, is there any alternative way to save the custom metadata?
Yeah: Lightroom won't save custom metadata in xmp, nor read it if it's there, so you are pretty much on your own - you can save in a file, but if you save as non-standard sidecar Lr won't attend to it like it will jpg or xmp sidecar. For that reason it's often better to save in a separate dedicated location. You can save in image file itself, e.g. using exiftool if raw file, but that would make me nervous, and of course you'd have to have the logic to read it somewhere too..

In Windows 7, how to make Firefox start automatically when I turn on the computer. Note, I am asking how to do this with Windows 7, not xp, not vista.

You need to place a shortcut to open Firefox in the Start > Programs > Startup folder.<br />
That is basically the same in all Windows versions.

In windows 7, how do I make firefox start automatically when I turn on the pc

That worked, thanks. When I turn on the pc, I almost always go to the internet before anything else, so this eliminates one step. It doesn't seem to save any time, however, but it is easy. If anyone else wants to try this, it looks like it's very easy to undo if you change your mind.

  • How could the wireless ethernet card running automatic when system reboot?

I have already setup the wireless networking card correctly which name is wpi0,but every time when I use it to link to internet,
I had to key the instuction like this :
    ifconfig wpi0 plumb
    ifconfig wpi0 up
    ifconfig wpi0 dhcp
    and then input:
    wificonfig -i wpi0 connect mywifi
comment: mywifi is the profile file of connection to my wireless router
I had set it with the instruction before like thisi
    wificonfig createprofile mywifi essid=2WIRE678 encryption=wep wepkey1=1234567890
anybody can help me group up the command line and has it running automatic when system reboot
it seems the wireless card always need manual connect to router, that 's trouble.

It should connect on it's own. Which version of Solaris are you using?
If worse comes to worse just drop all of your commands into a simple script and then run that script as part of your .profile or equivalent.

  • How do you make automator run automatically?

I have created a workflow and saved it as a workflow.
Do I need to save it as an application to get it to start on it's own?
The idea behind the workflow is when I open my email, it will filter and look for a particular sender. If that sender is identified it will open a Stickie note.
What I need help with is making the workflow start automatically when the URL that is "contained" in the filter is opened.
Any advice would be appreciated (please keep in mind that I don't know about programing, scripts, etc)
    Thanks,
    Rachel
    iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Rachel,
it won't 'start' on it's own...
You can save it as an Application and then use iCal or CronniX or similar to run/start you new Application...
To get your App to auto run it sounds like you will have to use a Mail rule Applescript to start it off...
Can you list the workflow...exactly there may be a different way of doing it.

Yeah, so there's definitely a problem here. It's FAR from intuitive. So like someone said, what you currently have to do is NOT sign out (which seems like the first thing anyone is likely to do when they're ready to quit), click on the task bar icon instead (!) and select an option from there that ISN'T AVAILABLE IN THE IN-PROGRAM MENU which is pretty unusual in itself, then remember to check the box for it not to DOUBLE-PROMPT FOR SOMETHING YOU HAD TO JUMP HOOPS in order to find in the first place. I can even say I get why they did it like that: it's supposed to have a personal setting for each user on the same computer but why couldn't I then personalize my skype to fully close when I click on the big red x that is USUALLY USED TO CLOSE THE PROGRAM THAT OPENED THE WINDOW. I kinda get why "sign out" is not the same as closing. I just now realized the minimize button and the close button do exactly the same thing... If this isn't taken seriously (I'm expecting the most convincing arguments here) I will just look for an alternative as soon as I can. It's hard because you guys have some sort of monopoly here and all my friends are on Skype too. I'll bet your managers know this extremely well.

  • KPIC makes programs running crash when libraries are recompiled

    Hi,
I have a very simple library that wraps a Timer class and a test program linked to it.
First of all, I compile the library and the main without the KPIC flag. Then, I execute the program and, while it's running, I add some dummy sentence to the library and recompile it. Nothing happens to the binary running. It keep unaware of changes in the library and keeps running.
Now, I recompile everything with KPIC and try to make the same test. Just when the library has been recompiled, execution is broken by a core dump.
You'd say that it has an easy solution: do not use the KPIC but I'm trying to develop my program in 64 bits and I'm forced - as far as I know - to compile using the KPIC flag.
Any idea of how to make it work? I can't assume to stop all my programs after any change in the library.
    Thanks in advance
    Jorge Ortiz

Let me clear up a few points and add to what amorrowcrcg has said.
Whether you are building a 32-bit or 64-bit program is a separate concern from generating PIC (positiion-independent code). PIC means that the code contains no absolute addresses. All references are relative to the program counter or the starting address of a section, or to a table in a shared library.
Code that goes into a shared library should be compiled as PIC. Otherwise, the library is cannot actually be shared; each process that links to it gets a separate copy.
Since PIC is often a little larger and a little slower than ordinary code, there is no reason to generate PIC except for use in a shared library.
You cannot overwrite a shared library while a process is using it. As previously explained, the file is truncated to zero size, then grows to its full size as data is copied into the file.
In many cases, you can replace a shared library on the fly by first removing it, then copying a new version into the same location.
    % rm destdir/mylib.so
    % cp srcdir/mylib.so destdir
When you remove the file, you really are just removing the entry in the directory that points to the file. The file itself is not removed until there are no more references to it. Any processes currently using the shared library still have access to it. When the last such process exits, the OS sees that the file has no more references, and removes the file.
When you copy in a new version of the library, processes started after the copy is complete find the library via the directory entry, which now points to the new library version. If a process starts before the copying is complete, the process can fail when it finds an incomplete library. (The copying might be suspended while a new process starts.)
A better technique is copy the file to a temp in the destination directory, then rename the temp:
    % cp srcdir/mylib.so destdir/mylib.so.tmp
    % rm destdir/mylib.so
    % mv destdir/mylib.so.tmp destdir/mylib.so
You now have a time period where no library exists, but you don't have a time where only part of the library is available.

  • How to make file versioned automatically when it is created

I am wondering it is possible to use the server side override to make file versioned when it is created. Does anyone have code to do it? Thanks a lot,
    Jean

It might be possible. The difficult part is moving all the object creation code into an override. I did it by creating a new parser that always creates new documents as versioned (among other things) and have found that to work very well.

  • Running a class automatically when weblogic server is started

    Hi,
    My requirement is as follows:
I need to constantly (once in every 15 mins) poll a database and check

  • Will scripts run automatically ?

If I shut down my Mac everynight(I live in a time zone 6 hours ahead of Eastern US time), will the scripts run automatically when I start it up the next morning...or...do I need a special utility application for this ?

these scripts are not worth worrying about. you should just leave them alone. the OS does a very good job of running them all by itself. and they are all quite useless anyway. many people (apparently yourself included) seem to think that these periodic scripts are important maintenance tools and will make your system run better and faster. nothing can be further from the truth.
    *monthly scripts* :
    1. archive and recycle fax logs. have you used your mac as a fax machine lately?
    2. write accounting information (total uptime of every account) in the monthly.out log.
That's IT. so unless you use your mac as a fax machine (do you, really?) you don't need to run monthly scripts. EVER.
    *weekly scripts*:
in snow leopard they do one thing ONLY: rebuild whois database. it's only useful if you are a unix user and actually use the whois terminal command at least on occasion. I'll bet my bottom dollar you never have and never will. then you don't need to run the weekly scripts either. EVER.
    *daily scripts*
    they do several things
    1. clean up the logs from /Library/Logs/CrashReporter which are more than 60 days old. hardly an urgent task. and those logs are really very few unless your system is seriously messed up. you can go a year without deleting any and will collect a few MBs at the most.
    2. delete junk from /tmp directory that's more than 3 days old.
This is done automatically on every reboot without any periodic scripts. if you don't reboot the computer then daily scripts will run *no matter* the schedule. if you don't sleep the computer at night they'll run at night. if you do sleep the computer at night they will run first thing in the morning when the computer is turned on. again, zero need to reschedule anything.
    3. deletes files older than 7 days from /var/rwho. this is only relevant if you are running a unix network. otherwise there is nothing to delete - EVER.
    4. rotate accounting files. again, those are nonexistent unless you are a unix administrator.
    5. run the terminal command *df -l -h* and print out the output to daily.out. all this command does is list currently mounted hard drives. useless.
6.print the current network status in daily.out. this is again just reporting not maintenance.
    7. Delete system messages. Once again this is relevant only for multi-user Unix systems.
    8. remove scratch fax files. see my comment above about using your mac as a fax machine.
    9. it writes some other accounting and system status info to daily.out. this is again only reporting and is ONLY actually present on unix networks.
    and that's all, folks.

  • Avoid iPhoto opening automatically when camera in docking unit

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me to solve a small problem. Somehow, some months ago I must have ticked off a box to make iPhoto open automatically when I press the USB button on my digital camera.
Now my mac is almost two years old, but works fine, except that iPhoto is incredibly slow. iPhoto using years to open each time I want to pick some pictures from my camera has become extremely annoying, but I can't find out how to turn that function off.. I guess the answer is quite simple?
