Make new paragraph tag available in all documents in a book

I'm very new to FM10, so please excuse my ignorance.
All I want to do is make a custom paragraph available in all the chapters
of my book. I created a variation of Heading2 (and gave it the paragraph tag
of H2), in one chapter and use it extensively there.
I checked the "add to catalog" box when I created it, but when I'm working on
the other documents (chapters) in the book, H2 doesn't show up in the
paragraph catalog .
After failing to make "import format" work, I even tried to re-create the same H2
paragraph from scratch in one of the the other chapters.
But to add insult to injury, after typing in all the custom H2 characteristics in that
other chapter, and attempting to put in the catalog (which was not showing
an H2 in that chapter), FM told me that it couldn't do it because there was already
a paragraph tag of that name in the catalog.
At that point I decided to throw myself on the mercy of the forum.

Open the file in which you created the H2 tag. In the book file, select all. Then with the book file selected, select File > Import > Formats. In the dialog, deselect all and then select paragraph formats. From the dropdown at the top, select the open file. Click OK, or whatever. This copies all the paragraph formats from the open file into all the selected files of the book. IF an H2 tag already exists in any of the files in the book, it is overwritten. No tags NOT in the open file are deleted.

The second paragraph implies that the import format DID work. What do you mean by failing to make import format work?

I'm trying to add a custom tag to an image in Aperture 2.0. I've looked all over the internet and find no examples what so ever of AS and Aperture 2.0.

If I recall, it was done because how tags were to be handled in 1.2 was very different from 1.1 and it was felt that developers shouldn't rely on implementation specific classes (unless they were SPI) for several other reasons (application portability being the big one here).
If it's felt that this was the wrong decision, please feel free to log an issue [1] against the RI (to date, no one has).
As to the 'borked' dependency URLs, please log an issue [1] if you find these. We have nightly builds going that work from a clean workspace and checking today's result, it seems ok.

What is the shortcut/hotkey to select all documents in the book panel?

I don't believe there is a keyboard shortcut available for that feature. But I believe if you click-select the topmost chapter, and Shift-click the bottommost chapter, it should select them all.
Other shortcuts for books can be set up in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts in the Panel Menus product area. There are no default shortcuts in that area.

How do i make my itunes library available to all users on one computer ?

i've got a family. a few kids and one itunes library. i am the only one who can buy stuff (as i assume its impossible to keep on library in synch with multiple owners ??) - but what i want to do is have the library available to all the kids - that way they can sign in as themselves and not keep signing in as me everytime they want to synch their ipods etc. is there a way to do this ? thanks so much.

Move the Library to Users/Shared.
Point each user to the new location:
iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > General > iTunes Music folder location > Change.

How do you make a virtual box available to all users

Hello everyone,
My parents just recently bought a new iMac as our "family" computer, which means we have multiple accounts on it. There is a couple of pieces of software still use on a regular basis that only works in Windows, so I was going to make a virtual box so we could run them. My question is, though I have done this several time on single account computers, how do I make one virtual machine available on multiple accounts. I don't want to waste hard drive space making a virtual box for every account. Thanks much for any help you can give me!

I would suggest to create a library template of an empty library with this settings as NO. Use this template for creating new libraries.
For updating existing libraries you can use:

$List.EnableFolderCreation = $false
$List.Update()
$Site.Dispose()
You can modify the above script for you need.

FrameMaker 11 (automatically?) creating new paragraph tags

I've just upgraded from FM 9 to FM 11, and I'm getting some unexpected behavior. For example, when I set a manual page break for a heading, FM is creating and applying a new para style to my heading - e.g. with my "Title2" heading, if I use Special > Page break --> At Top of Next Available page, FM sometimes pushes the Title2 heading to the next page, and renames it to "Title21". On a similar note, I've got an FM file in which the main body text is para style "normal", but for some reason, now that I've opened it in FM11, a lot of the paragraphs have been set to "normal1", which is not a para style that existed before, FM has created it. Has anyone encountered this sort of behavior, or does anyone know hwo to fix it?

You can get older FMs to do that as well, using:
File > Utilities > Create and Apply Formats
Every unique combination of overrides (which is what Page Break does) results in a unique new para fmt in CAF.
Is there anything in your workflow that is triggering a CAF?
Is this a structured document by any chance?

New phone doesn't show all contacts in address book.

I just acquired a Blackberry Curve 8310, previous phone is a Razr. I put the sim card into the blackberry, then went to "import contacts from sim card." Upon doing this, some of my contacts showed up, not all of them. Is there a step I missed, am I doing something wrong?

okay.
so my bet is :
back when you used your Motorola, some of your contacts were stored on the SIM card (and you have them on your device now)
and some of your contacts were stored on the internal memory of your Mototorola.
you have to either use the Motorola PC suite to transfer your contacts t your PC, or putthe SIM back on the Motorola and copy the contacts from the Motorola memory tothe SIM card.

Can a Text Variable be shared across document in a Book?

I'd like to define a single instance of a text variable and have it available to all documents in a Book (.indb). Can't figure out how. Is this possible?
InDesign CS5.5 (both mac & pc versions)

InDesign can't, automatically.
But it is an option in the Book panel -- you can enable text variables to synchronize along with loads of other stuff. Then all it needs is a quick click on the Synchronize button.
Just make sure you only enable the items you really want to sync.

Hard drive level Users/Sharing - Do a Get Info on the folder (command - I) and set permissions to everyone read/write, then click the gear at the bottom - Apply to Enclosed Items.

Difficulty in applying paragraph tags in FM9

Ok, i create a new tag from Heading1 and type some text and go to paragraph catalog and click in the new tag--no problem--text is changed. Now i go down to some other text and using the paragraph catalog and select it and the text does not change . Why not? What's going on? Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, I've seen similar behavior on rare
occasions. Selecting the whole paragraph and clicking on default font in
the character catalog got things working again, so that clicking in the
paragraph catalog would change the paragraph tag. I'm not sure why this
happened. Perhaps there was a character tag accidentally assigned to the
whole paragraph that was acting as an override and kept the new
paragraph tag from working.
Also be sure you have all four FM9 updates installed.

Please make average peak minutes available on website

You've developed a sophisticated new interface with great tools, but for some reason you chose not to make peak minutes available at a glance on past invoices. When a customer is logged in and selects "My Bill", and selects "Analyze Usage", a customer would expect to see "peak minutes" for that billing period. Unfortunately, you have 14 options available from the drop down menu, none of which give information on PEAK MINUTES. The best option is "Minutes by Usage Type" but amazingly, you do not list peak minutes there either.
Either this is an unfortunate oversight that should be fixed immediately, or it's a very manipulative way to prevent consumers to clearly identify their peak minutes at a glance, when so much other useless information is readily available. I don't like being manipulated like that. It's enough that you don't offer some kind of plan for the average consumer at 1000 peak minutes a month, and then to not make peak minutes available at a glance on past billing, and to not make average peak minutes available at all, is enough for me to consider moving on to another provider who will better meet my needs.

Why can't I create a new character tag in the designer?

I'm trying to create a new character tag in the designer but when I click the down arrow next to Commands, I don't get the COMMAND box that allows me to select New Format. Is this a bug or is there something else I need to do get it to respond? I'm able to add a new paragraph tag with no problem. I exited out of FrameMaker and restarted but that didn't seem to help. Yes, the COMMANDS pop up does not pop up!
Yes, I rebooted but I had the same problem. I ended up entering a new name directly in the Character tag field from the Designer and was able to create it that way. Thanks

Make webdynpro timesheet view available to everyone

I have saved a Webdynpro Record Working Time timesheet view (via Settings > View > Save As) and the Assignment is User. With this setting the view is only available to the individual and not available to all users. Is there a configuration setting or security setting that will allow for the view to be available to all users. The Save AS view dialog box does not allow me to change the Assignment property of User

I went in via SE80
Package - PAOC_CATS_ESS_WDA
Webdynpro > Web Dynpro Applicat. > HRESS_A_CATS_1 > Applic. Configurations
Double click on HRESS_AC_CATS_1 then Select from menu Web Dynpro Configuration > Test > Execute in Administration Mode
I then go into the Settings button on the timesheet, when I save the View it is saved for all, save dialog box says Assignment: All. This allows the view to be viewed, selected by all users when they run the webdynpro timesheet.
