Make new tab open to home page

When I open a new tab with the "+" button I get a blank page. I want my new tab to automatically open to my home page which I have set to Google. This is how IE8 does it.

This worked, and I appreciate it. Very aggravating.
You have to find the add-on under "Tools" first.
The setting to change the New Tab to launch immediately as
your Home Page is there. Would have been nice to have that
be the default, but it's fixed now, so thanks.

I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Here is something interesting that i have noticed though. my main pc (which is the one i have always managed my itunes account with for years) is a 32 bit system running windows 7. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

  • Firefox start page opens up as new tab whenever my home page opens

I've changed the default home page to another website.
Whenever Firefox starts up, two tabs will open ie. my homepage and Firefox start page. While browsing on any tab, if I click ALT+HOME to go to homepage, a new tab opens again for the firefox start page.
Why is this happening? It didn't happen with older firefox browser versions.

I have the same issue and figured it out. When you (and I) set our home pages, the Firefox start page was open also. Firefox takes every tab you have open when you set your home page. So close all but 1 tab and go to your desired home page and set it through the Tools>options>General tab. That fixed it for me.

  • Is there a way to open new tabs in the home page or some other link?

When I open a new tab using the "+" symbol I get a blank page. I would like new tabs to open in my home page, or, if possible, a different page, like my favorite web browser, which is what I usually want when I open a new tab.
Can this be done? I can't find the right preference for it, assuming that's the right place for such an option.

Nothing beats about:blank in my opinion for clarity and for tab history.
Here is an extension that does what you asked for, it is VERY large for what you get out it (which to me, what I would get out of it is confusion).

  • Safari can't automatically open a new tab on my Home Page?

OK - I have searched all over the web and this discussion site - are you telling me that outside of using a combination of keyboard shortcuts that Safari - UNLIKE EVERY OTHER BROWSER OUT THERE - can't open a new tab on the user's home page? Let's see if unlike every other post I've ever made to the discussion groups I will get an answer from someone.

are you telling me that outside of using a combination of keyboard shortcuts that Safari - UNLIKE EVERY OTHER BROWSER OUT THERE - can't open a new tab on the user's home page?
Correct. If you create a tab group you could click one bookmark entry to quickly open up your preferred homepages.
You're not the first to ask and not the only person who would like to see this. Send feedback via Safari menu > Report Bugs to Apple...

  • How do I open each new tab as my home page?

My home page includes my Google search box. I would like each new tab to be the same as my home page when opened. Please can you tell me how this is done?
    Many thanks

cor-el, your detailed answer was great! Providing the exact item in the list of hundreds/thousands narrowed it down perfectly.
Note to others, I turned off the showing of all the recent sites (very few I visit often enough to be given that list on each new tab, history and multiple tabs does what I need).
You toggle them on/off with the only icon in the upper right of the page (looks like floor tiles with space between each tile) and even when turned off the selected browser.newtab.url shows.

  • How to change the homepage for a new tab when the home page of the initial tab and subsesequently opened tab are different?

When iam using firefox i selected google as my home page. But while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it. How can i get rid of this problem?

'''''"...while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it."""
Any search toolbar and changes to search engines can take place by downloading and installing software; usually "free" software from the internet. Babylon can be downloaded and installed by itself or as a "ride-along" when installing/updating some software from the internet. Always look for an opportunity during the installation to un-check boxes that will install "ride-along" items that you do not want. Firefox installation does not include such "ride-along" items.

  • How to set Preferences such that new tabs open to same page as active when Command-T was hit?

On opening a new tab, the tab by default opens to thumbnails based on recent history. A la Safari, I want the new tab to open *to same page as was active when Command-T was hit*. What are the specific steps to take, to set as the default (preference), new pages to open to "Same page"? ("Same page" is Safari's check box in its Preferences.)
Note, I have navigated available Mozilla Support, and using about:config have reset browser.newtab.url so that the new tab appears blank (discontinuing tracking of recent history for this purpose).
Note, more importantly, I have found this Support Forum article, which, though challengingly written, has given me a temporary solution:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/891635
(The temporary solution for the Mac OS is to Command-click on the "Reload current page" icon in the url/Address box in the browser toolbar, which opens a new tab in the same window.)
However, I would still like to set this as a permanent Preference, and would ask someone communicate a solution to me. Cheers, LeProf

    ''LeProf_7272 wrote:''
if I can possibly just create a new config line
You can't, which is why I suggested the above add-ons. There is no option in the UI or hidden preference in Firefox that can duplicate a tab whenever you open a new tab. ''browser.newtab.url'' can only be set to a fixed address, not whatever address happens to be open in the current tab.
The are only two built-in methods for duplicating a tab:
    # Hold down the '''Option''' key and drag the tab to a new position on the tab bar.
    # Hold down the '''Command''' key and click the Reload button in the address bar.

  • New tab opens Yahoo searh page

When I open a new tab. it opens at the yahoo search page (http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,167,3_6,Tab%20Search,00000000,0,0,0,0). I have set my home page to blank and have made sure I have no yahoo software installed. How do I get a blank page on a new tab?
    Thanks

That feature will have been part of an add-on. Did you have an add-on such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5721/ Fast Dial] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810/ Speed Dial]?
