  • Switching SharePoint from Secured to Anonymous Access - Problems have Arisen

    Background:
We had SharePoint setup by a professional SharePointer several years ago to be secured from anonymous Access.  Documentation was non-existant except showing us how to setup new sites and a few other things.
    Goal:
We are trying to remove the login only access and switch it so that people can see the front page and a few select subpages anonymously.  We are in the midst of a repurposing.
    Problem:
I have followed the instructions at this
site and the first thing that happens when we go to the site is that we are prompted to login.  We are thinking that the professional set something else somewhere to force it to prompt.  Any help with this would be appreciated.
Troubleshooting:  On top of the basic setup I have double checked permissions on all Sites and folders making sure that there is nothing on the main page that isn't allowed Anonymous Access. Have also fiddled with IIS settings, but to no avail (the
settings have been returned to normal).
Also, please note that my AnonymousPermMask64 is set to:
ViewListItems, ViewVersions, ViewFormPages, Open, ViewPages, UseClientIntegration

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to enable the anonymous access for the site.
As you had enable the anonymous access in web application and site level following the instructions, and still could not enable the anonymous access.
To narrow down the issue, we can do some steps as below.
First, we can create a new site in the web application, then enable the anonymous access for the site.
If the site could anonymous access, the issue would occur in your old site.
Then we can check the steps for anonymous access in the old site, or we can also check ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS
What’s more, we can also back up the site collection, then restore the site collection to check whether it works.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748655(v=office.14).aspx
Second, if the new site still could enable the anonymous access, the issue would occur in the web application level.
You should check the issue with the web application as above.
You can also backup the web application restore to a new web application to check whether it works.

  • Troubleshooting SharePoint Auth prompts and Anonymous access with Fiddler - Is there a better way?

I've troubleshooted (troubleshot?) many SharePoint sites for anonymous and random authentication prompts. It usually winds up being something not checked in or published, but sometimes it's something more random, like a survey list based on a template from
another site prompting for auth even when configured for anonymous access, but when created manually, question by question, works fine for anonymous, and other random things I've run into in the past. In these situations, I almost always break out Fiddler,
and then almost always move on to the tried and true method of "trying different things" until getting it to work.
Because Fiddler almost never, in my experience, produces actionable results pointing at a specific file or problem. Am I alone? And if not, does anyone have anything better they've used over time?
    Thanks!

That is as close as you're going to get to the element that isn't loading, although if it is a reference in a page, you should see the error when attempting to load the reference.

  • Error opening PDF files from search results webpart on anonymous SharePoint 2013SP1 site with IE

Clicking search results, in the strict sense pdf files, using IE on an anonymous SharePint 2013SP1 site, I received the error: There was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I would like to solve this problem on the server side.
    Starting position:
    SharePoint 2013 SP1
    Web Application:
    based on template 'Publishing Portal'
    Anonymous Access enabled
Claims based authentication: Integrated Windows Authentication NTLM
    Client Integration disabled
    Site Collection:
Anonymous Access enabled for 'Entire Web site' => group 'Anonymous Users' was created
added permission to open items: $Web.AnonymousPermMask64 = "ViewListItems, ViewVersions, ViewFormPages, Open, ViewPages, UseClientIntegration, OpenItems"
    Client side solutions:
c1) Open Link with “Open in new tab” or “Open in new window” => OK
c2) Disable IE Add-on “Adobe Acrobat Sharepoint OpenDocuments Component” => OK
c3) Set bDisableSharePointFeatures to 1 in regetit => OK
    Server side solutions:
S1) Turn off Client Integration => didn't work, still same error
    S2) Modify DOCICON.XML => didn't work, still same error
I gave these two options a chance:
    first: <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/>
    then: <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>
    I modified DOCICON.XML on both hives 14 and 15.
    Remarks:
    - After changingparameters I allways did an IISreset.
    - As far as I understood I can only change bDisableSharePointFeatures on Client Side.
    Any help, suggestion, idea wellcome!
    Thanks!

Hi folks, here's the reason for my problem. I used the oob search result web part. The result items (PDF items) are rendered by the template Item_PDF.html/Item_PDF.js. This template holds a code snippet that assigns a certain OpenControl to the PDF item - that's hard coded. So, no matter what you configure in DOCICON.XML, the PDF item will be opened with the control "PdfFile.OpenDocuments". Solution is e.g. just to leave the OpenControl blank.
    template:
    /_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/Item_PDF.html
    /_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/Item_PDF.js
    code before:
    ctx.CurrentItem.csr_OpenControl = "PdfFile.OpenDocuments";
    code after:
    ctx.CurrentItem.csr_OpenControl = "";
    Enjoy

    Hi Harry,
From your description, I understand you encountered the issue when open PDF documents from search result page.

  • Automatic sign in anonymous access

As per the current scenario I have enabled anonymous access. While clicking in "Sign In" link it logging in automatically(without prompt). But I don't want to click "Sign In". Any workaround?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to access SharePoint site with anonymous access enabled without clicking Sign In button.
I recommend to access the site by using the following URL: http://server/site/_windows /default.aspx.
Navigating to the URL will automatically log you in to that site collection using Windows Authentication.
More information are provided in the link below:

  • Login prompt showing up on mobile devices on publishing anonymous access website

We have a website that is a publishing site using anonymous access.  The website works fine except on a mobile device a login prompt pops up.  if you press cancel the website works fine.  It only happens if you go to the homepage.  I

  • Anonymous access to list on public site (Sharepoint Online)

    Hi,
I have created a Contact Us custom list for our public web site and could assign "Add items" and "View items" permissions for the Anonymous user (by using the 3rd party WSP365
Anonymous 2013 sandbox solution). This is clearly shown in the Permissions of this list.
Now I'm trying to access this list through the REST API and the $.ajax function (jQuery). Assuming the list is called "ContactUs", I should be able to read and write to this list through
    http://contoso-public.sharepoint.com/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items
1st problem: When I try to access this list, I get a login popup asking me to log into prodnet47-48ipv4a.sharepointonline.com.akadns.net (same on IE11 and Chrome)
Accessing directly the link above returns the following error (although I'm not sure it is meant to be accessed like that):
    <m:error xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><m:code>-2147024891,
    System.UnauthorizedAccessException</m:code><m:message xml:lang="en-US">Access
denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource.</m:message></m:error>
2nd problem: When I use _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl +"/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items to programatically get the base domain, the url returned is
    http://contoso-public.sharepoint.com/undefined/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks in advance

I read that anonymous access is unsupported in 2010 and didn't find improvements in 2013. Alternative route is to create service account with minimal read permission and use this account to communicate with REST.

  • Anonymous Access Sharepoint Foundation 2013

Is it possible to allow anonymous access in Sharepoint Foundation 2013?  I've enabled anonymous access at the site level as well as via central administration but users are still prompted for login when browsing to the site anonymously.  I'm
more curious if this is an issue with the Foundation version specifically at this point.  Thanks.

    Hi mtrosper,
Please disable anonymous access via the UI, then enable it using PowerShell, compare the result.
You can use the following PowerShell command to enable it:
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication 'http://someurl:9999'
    $webApp.IisSettings['Default'].AllowAnonymous=$false
    $webApp.update()

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that when you went to the Discussion List and selected the thread then view the list in “Flat” view, the Spelling ICON was greyed out.
By design in SharePoint, when you view the list in “Flat” view, the ribbon would be as below:
Only when you add a reply and move the mouse to the content, the Spelling ICON will appear.

  • "An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files" connecting site with SharePoint Designer

I have a SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 AD Server, 1 DB Server and 1 APP Server, with 13 Web Applications running under the SharePoint.
Recently I rebuilted the application because of some infrasctrucutre problems, and I was able to solve all of them, except one. I can't connect to any of those 13 Web Apps with SharePoint Designer. When I try to connect, it always ask credentials, then it
seems like loading the site, then the error appears:
"An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files. Authors - if you are authoring against
a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application event log for more details."
I've spent hours troubleshooting it, but none of the information I found was valid. I've already tried to clean the cache, but didn't work. I found plenty of related data of this
error with FrontPage and old versions of SharePoint, but nothing helped. All the Web Apps are SPD-Enabled at Site Collection Administration. I've tried connecting from many different PC's. The 15/LOGS folder doesn't get any data from this error, neither the
    Event Viewer.
I really don't know what else to do. Please Help!

I found the answer of my issue was in a .NET Agent installed by NewRelic on the server. I found a connection trouble with Fiddler, then I end up figuring this out:
This can be the result of Real User Monitoring so the first step in troubleshooting would be to disable it and see how it affects the application. The .Net Agent injects snippets of javascript into the header of pages sent to the users browser to measure the
page load time on the user's end.
You can disable RUM by editing newrelic.config and changing this line:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="true"/>
    to this:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="false"/>
