If you are hoping for a "film look," there is much more to it, than just the 24p. This is a good tutorial on what is involved: http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/film-look-dslr-video/
A true film look does start with 24p, but goes into lighting, lens selections, etc. as well.
As for converting, say 30i to 24p, I do not know of any plug-in that will do a good job, but there might be some good ones out there.

Painting runs the gamut from, say, house-painting to Jan van Eyck, with stops along way for Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, and even that electrifier of turds, Thomas Kincade.
You might be able to mimic a few of these with the tools in Aperture. What do you have in mind?

Im trying to make an image where this word looks like it is written in dirt on the sidewalk. Iv' already taken a pile of dirt and created a clip mask out of it but it doesnt look natural enough. I'll just add a little footnote to the above, while I'm thinking about it. One problem with layer styles - especially complex ones like Bevel & Emboss, is that you have limited control of the different aspects of the effect. I didn't use Bevel & Emboss in the above example because the highlights were too strong, and made it look wrong.
A way round this is to right click the effect and choose 'Create layers'. This breaks up the effect into one or more layers, so you can reduce, say, the highlight without effecting the shadow.
I think if I was trying to do a stand out job, I'd use a finer font, so it looked like it had been drawn with a stick, and I'd use a combination of Bevel and Emboss layer style to get the depth, but I'd also use JJ's idea of a displacement map clipped to the text layer, to roughen the edges realistically, and add texture to the bottom of the indented text.
An alternative is to find a suitable texture, and save it as a Pattern. That would make it available to use as a 'Texture' in the Bevel Emboss sub options. The beauty of this is that the texture works very much like a Displacement map with depth and lighting effects. In fact, I think that might be the easiest way to go about it.

You can also use compressor to convert to the 3GP format, the default video codec for many mobile phones. Select a choppy framerate, something like 15 fps. I think the ipod codec looks to good for somoething that is intended to fake a mobile phone quality.

How can i make something look like it was embossed in PS?

I have a simple shape...a rectangle filled with a solid color. It is a separator bar on a poster. I want the top of the bar to have highlight and the bottom of the bar to be darkened. (As if I brought it into PS and applied an emboss filter)
I tried using a gradient and got ok results. Is there a better way to do this?

If you count me, now two people want to know how to emboss a simple shape or path in Ai. I already know how to do it in both Photoshop and Fireworks, both a piece of pie, but I (we) must be overlooking something astonishingly obvious in Illustrator.
Why not do it in Photoshop? Because the background from Ps comes along for the ride - even if it's transparent in Ps. And, unless I flatten the embossed path in Fw (converting it to bitmap from vector), the emboss doesn't paste into Ai, and then the background comes along...

I have been scratching my head trying to figure out a way to make a photo look like it's wrapped around a wooden frame, like on a box canvas. I'm not concerned with the canvas texture, I just want to know how I can apply an effect or an action to a single image to give it depth. Any ideas?

the one i posted was a psd file using a smart object. Double click the smart object it then opens a new file, you add the photo you need, as you from the example that image is wide screen, my photo wasn't, so you use the 2nd file to make the photo fit how you want, then save and it then alters the original file, hence smart object. The background too was one, hence the perspective.
The splicing etc is ok , as you say if you have an odd one to do.
So essentially you make up the smart object once and then reuse. As you woudl need to make the canvas / canvas's into several templates for your liking, be it square / portrait / landscape or even spread over several canvases
The example i showed here is an illusion, but a pretty good one, It NOT 3d. Its done with shadows, this is the smart object.
as you see its just a perspective rectangle with the top and bottom left cropped off for the depth.
these are the psd layers as you see there are only 5, its not an action, but googling i did see an action, i think it was $35. But as i said bear in mind the amount of possible boaard canvases you may want.
2 of the other layers as you see are for the lighting and the top one is the 3d illusion effect, this particular one has the canvas effect too. I can't remember where i got this one from. I think graphic river do 3d canvas though, there will be others.
Another thing to consider if using an action is if it can do multiple boards. like ...
again just to show you before the illusion

Problem with slideshow in iPhoto. Photos look like they are all the right way up but when in slideshow action some are sideways.

even though all photos look like they are the right way up, when the slideshow commences, some of them display sideways. I have tried re-rotating them - and still have same problem. Help please - need it for Saturday night !

What version of iPhoto are you using? Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album or are you using the slideshow mode?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

The ipad 1 is not supported by apples latest software updates. The processor just cannot handle the newest ios. Im sure there are various third party apps in the app store to give you more of a look alike ios7 but the first generation ipad cannot be updated due to performance issues.

I used to be able to make FF look like IE with a button. I don't see the button anymore.
