Just like Photoshop, with or without 3D, How about splitting Illustrator into Print and Web.
Print would be the good old fashion one file one document, no RGB colors and you can expand the printing options and tools.
Web can keep the multiple documents in one file and all the non printing options.

Actually I think that two editions of Illustrator could be a good idea.
We could have an Avant-garde Illustrator, which will include all the new features (live trace, live color, blob brushes, etc.) and all the good things that make working with it a really enhanced user experience. At each new upgrade a lot of new great features will be added; maybe sometime new features will introduce little bugs, little crushes, few extra nodes, few more lost files, some new error messages, but those are just little details that generally dont take away the pleasure of upgrading.
Then we could have a Classic Illustrator. This edition will have all the present features that just cause serious problems and crushes removed; everything that makes a not so enhanced user experience should be gone.
Get rid also of some basic bug that has been there for ages, by now they should know where they are.
Some people may not like this stripped down version, but others may enjoy a not so exciting and eventful workday. Less lost files, maybe a few more steps to complete our illustrations, but dont we all know how to draw? Otherwise the Avant-garde crashware will always be available for purchase and upgrade.
How Adobe could convince people to buy this basic version? Easy, add few little insignificant details to it.
Just some old stuff that has been there for ages:
Complete the capabilities of the pen tool including the ability to retract the outgoing handle on the fly without loosing the orientation, differentiate the smooth and symmetric condition, switching smart guides on and off without loosing the path, etc.
Add basic support for geometry and geometric basic shapes, including dragging a circle from point A to point B (not its bounding box only), 3 points circle, divide a segment by N, add normals and tangents (we are not talking CAD here, but basic drawing capabilities).
The list could go on for a while, but this list already exist, it has been in the features list of most other vector programs for the last fifteen years or so.

You need to be very careful which project you open in which version.
For 2014 make sure its on 2014.1 build 81.

Itunes two versions of the same album?

Hello,
I have two versions, high res audio and CD quality, of the same album of an artist located in two folders "Album Title" and "Album Title HD".
By adding the two folders to the iTunes mediathek, all tracks are merged under "Album Title" in iTunes. Do I have to manipulate the meta data to avoid this behavior in iTunes? Interestingly the views on the Mac and via iOS Remote App are different:
Mac:
Track 1
Track 1 HD
Track 2
Track 2 HD
etc.
Rmote App:
Track 1
Track 2
Track Last
Track 1 HD
Track 2 HD
I disabled the automatic handling option for iTunes import. So still two folders in the iTunes music folder exist.
Any ideas?

If you want them to appear as separate albums you will have to change the metadata for one of the albums. There are many ways to do this and which one you use will depends upon your preferences.
You can make it obvious by doing something such as adding a descriptor to the album name e.g., Album Name [CD quality]
You can "hide". If you do not normally use the album artist field and you add an album artist to that field for one of the versions it will cause that to sort separately. Similarly if you add a number to the disc number field that should normally get it to display separately.
Alternatively you can come up with a smart playlist to sort according to kind.

How do you make different versions of a Project?

I want to take a project and save out a different variation of it.
But when I duplicate my project I wind up with a huge new project file on my hard drive with duplicate rendering files etc.
Isn't there a way to make multiple versions of a project file without having to duplicate all those massive files?
I have a feeling that there is a convention I'm not aware of for creating variations on a project.

1. YES. You can absolutely use SAME DB to have multiple Versions of SOA Schemas.
2. Any SOA/BPM will need basically 4/5 schemas like SOAINFRA, MDS, ORABAM, ORASDPM etc. based on what you choose. And each of these Schemas can be Prefixed. Default prefix is like DEV, so schemas are like DEV_SOAINFRA, DEV_MDS etc
3. Very Simple. When you Run RCU 11.6 and give the same old db details, in next screen it will automatically show the new Prefix for the schemas it will create. If DEV is used, it will show DEV1 like that. So just choose a Different Prefix and you are good to go.
I have the same thing on my side. Single Database. Multiple RCU for SOA 11.5 and SOA 11.6 with different Prefixes:
SOA 11.5 -> DEV115_SOAINFRA, DEV115_MDS, DEV115_ORABAM etc
SOA 11.6 -> DEV116_SOAINFRA, DEV116_MDS, DEV116_ORABAM etc
I Used the Prefixes like DEV115, DEV116 so that I know exactly which version of RCU schema they refer to.
For QC, UAT, PROD we used prefixes like QC_*, UAT_*, PROD_* etc.
NOTE: When you drop the schemas for some reason, make sure to give the appropriate prefixes so that only they are dropped and not others.

Why do you want to run Tiger?
There is a German blogger that published details on how he was able to get Tiger to run in VMWare Fusion. I obtained a copy of the trial version of the then latest version of Fusion, but I could not get Tiger to install into it, so I contacted him. He told me that he was successful with installing Tiger into VMWare Fusion v2 and he thought he then upgraded Fusion to v4.
I was successfully able to recreate his success in installing Tiger (Intel) into a copy of VMWare Fusion 2 that I purchased on eBay, but never able to then update that to VMWare Fusion 4.
I abandoned the project at that point, as my need to run Tiger evaporated. The latest version of OS X that supports VMWare Fusion 2 is Snow Leopard.
Some time later I noticed that the German blogger "locked" his blog with password protection which makes it difficult to communicate with him.

Laptop with two versions of Safari- want to "Trash" one or the the other...

I have two versions of Safari. One in the APP folder (as usual) and the other on the Desktop.
Want to trash one of my Safari Apps but I'm not sure if both will disappear.
(I'm asked for the Admin. PW when attempting to trash one or the other.)
Ideas? Suggestions for safe removal of the one appearing on the Desktop?
Likewise I have two folders named "iPhoto Library" - one is on the Desktop, again, it's the same "Trash" issue.

You can and should delete the Safari copy on your Desktop. As for the iPhoto library, if you're sure that the one on the Desktop is a copy, you can delete it, too. Of course, you're backing up all your data, so if you make a mistake, you can recover from it easily.

How to compare between two versions of template project???

Dear All,
We are doing some cleanup activity in our solution manager system. For this actually we have created the replica of this project from production system to a sandbox system. We can do the cleanup of this project and can transport this new project to our production system and can move on.
But the pbm we are facing now is, how do we bring in the data captured or added to the production system after we have copied it to the sandbox system?
Can anybody throw in some light into this issue?
We tried the option of creating different version for the template and using the sa_project_upgrade transaction to compare between two versions of the template using "Current Version in Project" option. Not sure whether this will work out.
{{We thought that if we try in this way, we can find the difference between the two versions of the template project, and from there, might be we can bring in the new changes into our new project manually. We do agree that this is not the right approach.}}
But the end result we got was like we got the information regarding where all there is the difference between the current version in the template project to that of the original(in our case it checked against BPR as we selected the scenarios from BPR for this template). But what we expected was a difference between two versions of the template.
Pls help. Pls make a try to help. Any thoughts in this direction will help us to move forward.

I tried the option suggested by you. But while running the comparison report for the newly copied project with the option "New Version of Original", I am getting the below error. I have saved two versions of my website and would like to 'transfer' a couple of the pages from one to the other to make the perfect one. The master pages are the same in both. Is that possible?

Can two versions of a package coexist - virtualbox for palm-sdk

I am trying to install palm-sdk on my 3.8.6-1-ARCH x86_64 GNU/Linux machine. And it turns out that this package requires virtualbox <=4.1. Current version of virtualbox is 4.2 so I downloaded virtualbox-4.1.8-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz and virtualbox-modules-4.1.8-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz from http://arm.konnichi.com/. virtualbox-modules requires linux <3.3 and I have linux 3.8.6-1 on my machine so before installing it, I wanted to make sure it would not break everything else. Is there a way to install two versions of linux and specify that linux-3.2 should be used by virtualbox-modules and linux-3.8.6-1 for all the rest?
Otherwise what would you suggest I should do?

Here is how I did it in more details in case some other beginner falls into the same problem:
So I tried compiling the modules. Most of them failed with this error:

Two versions of code, one compile failure with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

I Have two cvs versions of one package. The differences between the two are minor, and I'm only trying to make the root version look like the latest branch. When I compile the branch, which has more code, things are fine. When I comple the root version I get
java.lang.OutOfMemoryErrorSInce I can compile one version, it is clearly not the case that I lack RAM or something like that. What might the problem be? Thanks.

package.Then, as already stated, the difference between the two versions is enough to cross the threshold of heap memory available to the VM that's running the compiler. Ant lets you provide VM options to an externally invoked VM. See its docs for how. If you're using fork="false", then just change or add -Xmx in ant.bat or ant.sh.

Do you mean Office 2008 and 2011 or do you really want Office 2001? I think you mean 2011 since Office 2001 wouldn't make much sense.
The Office uninstaller should be able to identify there are two versions and allow you to delete either one or both.

How to make two mono audio tracks into a stereo pair?

My video clip, brought over into Premiere CS6 from Final Cut Pro 5, has the usual left and right audio tracks, but in Premiere they are not linked into a stereo pair. Thus the volume level has to be adjusted separately in each track.
In Final Cut, I can quickly convert two independent audio tracks into a stero pair by selecting the tracks and then going to the menu Modify > Stereo Pair. I can't figure out how to do this in Premiere.
When two audio tracks are not linked, the volume level has to be adjusted separately in each track, which wastes time. But after two tracks are linked into a Stereo Pair in Final Cut, adjusting either track adjusts them both, together. That's what I want to do now in Premiere.
So, how do I make two separate audio tracks into a linked Stereo Pair in Premiere?

I used to think like you do. These aren't workarounds, per se. The issue is that Premiere Pro is a different program, so you have to approach some things slightly differently.
Actually, Premiere Pro's audio capability is more like a DAW than Final Cut was, and more powerful too, so if you know that workflow it makes more sense. A lot of FCP people don't have training in programs like ProTools or Audition, so it's more difficult for folks like yourself (and me, too) to catch on. Once you learn it, though, you begin to see its power.

In Premiere Pro CC, you can link and unlink audio and video tracks with a keyboard shortcut for "Linked Selection." You have to create it in your Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box, but it works just like the one in FCP. Make it Shift + L if you like.

Again, you can achieve what you want (copying and using items from other projects), you just have to go about it differently. All you do is navigate to the other project files in the Media Browser and import items that you need in this fashion. So, no, you don't have more than one project open at a time, but you got what you wanted, stuff from another projects in your current project. That works for me, anyway.
Again, Premiere Pro is a different program. You can achieve the same goals, but sometimes have to go about it differently. Some things are faster, some slower. Some are easier to learn, some harder. Hopefully, you see my point.
I need video generators to make arrows, circles, squares, etc. and transitions such as edge wipes and clock wipes to animate them, all to point out and emphasize things that I'm demonstrating and explaining in my videos. Premiere has no such generators, nor are there any third-party plug-ins available to add them, that I've been able to find.
Do you know about the Titler? It has a lot of useful shapes. You can also create shapes in After Effects and Photoshop and import them. The shapes you make in those programs can look a lot better than the stock FCP effects.
There are lots of third party effects, some that have generators. Check out Boris Continuum, FX Factory, CoreMelt, Film Impact, and more.
There are pitifully few transitions in Premiere at all (the Mac version) compared to Final Cut.
I'm really not a transitions person, and I find the FCP transitions looking tired anyway. The only one I really need is a white flash and I can either create it, or use a third party flash effect. If you need cool, modern transitions, check out Film Impact or the other third party plug in foundries I mentioned. There is an Edge Wipe transition, called "Wipe." If you need feathering, check out the Wipe Effect, which you can keyframe to look like a transition.
More and more I would like to be moving completely into Premiere, but I keep running into these inadequacies in the program, these roadblocks, for my purposes at least.
The more you work with it, the less you'll be working with FCP. That's what most people are saying anyway. Sure, there are minor annoyances associated with learning a new app, but you also take the good along with it. I suggest you just dive right in. It may take longer at first, but you can get your speed up in time.
I have no doubt that sometime in the future Premiere will become everything that I want it to be, and at that time I can finally abandon Final Cut for good, as I wish I could do right now.
I also came from FCP, taught FCP for nearly a decade, wrote a book about FCP, help start the first FCPUG, worked at Apple on two versions of FC Studio, so I do know what you are going through. Just keep at it and keep posting here. I'll be glad to help you with any workarounds or confusion related to moving over from FCP.

Saving two versions of a photo

Is there a way to save one photo in two different sizes? Example, I want to crop and down-rez a photo to send out to somebody for reference, but want to maintain the original full-rez raw file in the event that said person wants to purchase said image.
Please advise.

You don't really need to have two versions of the image in this case.
First the resolution/size issue is handled during export. You don't change the resolution of an image while working in Aperture you change it when you go to export. So a single image could be exported in any number of size/resolution combinations.
So one workflow for something like this would be:
Make all needed adjustments to the image except for crop.
Then crop the image, export i in what ever resolution size you want
Send that to the client.
When the client comes back and says OK
remove the crop from the image
Export at the resoliution and size you will give to the customer
NO need for two versions.
And actually I question the crop. It sounds like you are cropping the image in order to send a smaller size for confirmation.
Again this is really handled better during export. You can send the complete image but at a reduced size and resolution.
Finally what it sounds like you are doing is sending a proof to the customer for there approval. If that is thre case you could ad a watermark to the image and then just remove the watermark after the customer purchases the image.
