Make White Background of Movie Clip Transparent

I have a .mov of an animated object on a white background. How do I make the white background transparent to get the composite effect of inserting the animation in another movie? I am using FCE 4.

Hi(Bonjour)!
Set transfert mode for this clip to multiply.
If the white doesn't become transparent, try to apply a brightness and contrast to purify the white or use a color correction to set a new white balance.

It sounds like you're gif is a picture of a white background with a black chess piece on top. If that's the case, you're going to have to cut the black chess piece out of the gif. Save ~just~ the image of the chess piece. Discard the white background. Use only the image of the black chess piece with no background image at all.
Keep in mind that Java doesn't know that the white background isn't a part of the image. It doesn't understand that the white part is just the background. As far as it's concerned, the whole gif is the image. Only the component that ~contains~ that gif can become transparent.
So, if you want to have a white background to start with and then have that background become transparent when the piece moves, make the background of the ~component~ holding the image of the chess piece white. When the piece moves, have the background of the component holding the image of the chess piece become transparent.

  • How do I make the background of a logo transparent on a slide?

This seems to be doc'd in the Captivate 7 User Guide, in "Properties of images and rollover images":
ImageTransparent Background Select the color filler icon. All occurrences of one particular color in an image can be made transparent.
    ...  However, steps to reproduce:
    1. Ctl+sh+m to insert image (logo; lots of white background).
    2. Double-click image to open image's Properties Inspector.
    3. Under image is the following:
    4. I open what seems to be the color selector on the right, and select white.
    5. I click the eye-dropper icon on the left (which, when I mouse over it, has the tooltip, "Make the selected color transparent."
Expected result: The white background becomes transparent.
Actual result: The white background remains white.
Am I barking up the wrong tree? What is the correct and effective way to render the white background in an image transparent?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Let us just say that Adobe UI designer was not in a good mood that day.
If you notice closely, there is a semi-colon between the eye-dropper icon, which indicates that this icon is just a "label". Next to that is a button that you need to click. Click that, you get the color palette which also has the standard Pick Color filler. Select that filler and click the area on the image which you want to make transparent.
Another alternative for this is, save the image in the PNG format and import it into Captivate. This is hassle-free and in my experience is more cleaner.

  • Is it possible to make the background of an image transparent in indesign?

is it possible to make the background of an image transparent in indesign?

It's not necessarily the best way, but depending on the image content, you might be able to get an acceptable result with the options under Object > Clipping Path...
EDIT: So technically, the answer to your question is: No, but you can apply a clipping path to hide the background.
Also, again depending on the image content, as well as the underlying content, it might be possible to use blend modes in the Effects panel to render the background transparent.
Background removal is best done in Photoshop, where the image can then be saved as .PSD and its native transparency will be honored when placed in InDesign.

  • How do you make the background of an object transparent in Adobe Illustrator?

    Hello Forum.
How do you make the background of an object transparent in Adobe Illustrator?
I have been having issues with using the Magic Wand tool in Adobe Illustrator as well as the lasso tool.
Basically, I am trying to put a small graphic into a new Illustrator file.
The first thing I tried to do is to use the magic wand tool.  But I found out that this did not work on a jpeg image since it did not have any individual objects to select.
So I tried something new.  I opened the file in Adobe Photoshop and used the lasso tool to select an area.  Then I coped this area.  Then I tried to paste it into Adobe Illustrator.  But the background was not transparent for the pasted image.
How do I make the background transparent.
I made this small video to show what I am talking about:
    http://youtu.be/2LgMGEF6z10

    Don't Copy/Paste the image.
Make it transparent in Photoshop, save a PSD and place it in Illustrator

  • Make white background transparent

This Q must be very old. Why can´t someone invent a sigle button for this I have tried all the things by the book but still when I try to lay text image with white background over an image the white is still there althoug I made it transparent. tried to sa for web as png-8, png-24 and gif. nothing works. To use magic wand gives bad result when applied to text? So what can I do? I am trying to place text over image. I know I could write it over the image but I need the text as a transparent layer some place else.
    thanks

Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object
Place the object on its own layer -  Layer menu>new>layer via copy or CTRL+J
Place a blank layer between the background layer and the layer with the object, then place your new background on this blank layer.
You should have 3 layers: Background layer that you started with, the blank layer with substitute background, layer with object at top.
    Here I selected the swan
Placed a blank layer below the layer with the swan
Filled this layer with a gradient for demonstration.

  • How to change white background with text to transparent background

    Good afternoon,
I have a jpg file (part of our logo) white background with black text and I would like to change it to transparent background and keep the black text (to be able to insert it on a cup image).
I tried to change it in photoshop, however, when I slide the "opacity" and "fill", the text got ligther as well.
Do I need to have the original psd.file to be able to do that, or can you please lead me through with jpg file? (I tried to save the jpg to psd and png, but it did not help.)
I looked on one of your videos, but I could not find one of the features under "Select" tab.
My plan is to recreate the text to have the transparent background if necessary (It would be great if I can avoid that). However, how do I find out which font was originaly used? Does photoshop has this feature, or do I need to go trough each of the font one-by-one?
My last question is, how do I change space between letters (to have them more tight. I am not able to find it.
    Thank you for your help,
    Klara

If you can get teh original PSD file get it, your task will be a lot easier.
I suspect that won't be an option to you.
If you know what fonts are being used, that also would be of benefit to you. In other word remake it using your image as a template.
If it going over an image, then a multiply blend might work for you.
All that fails then you are down to removing the white background. The problem this option is it will not look as good due to the thin lines on the fonts. But essentially, Load the image into photoshop, make sure the layer isnt locked, then try the magic eraser tool on the white background, bam it'll disappear, but leave the white inside the O white you will have to do seperately.
Messing with levels will help you with more of the white. Myself i'd rebuild it using the fonts.

  • PSE3, how to make white background for silouette

I have taken a few pics of my grandkids in silouette form. That is, profile shots taken against window with snowy background. I've done a conversion to B/W, but need to darken it further. My main question is, how do I put a selection on a pure white background? Barbara, I have your book, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Do you have specific pages to look at? I know how to make a decent selection, but that's about it! Thanks.

    Donna,
    1. Make selection of silhouette
    2. Go to Edit>copy
    3. Go to File>new>Blank file> Color Mode:RGB. Background contents:White. Size H&W for your paper stock.
    4. Go to Edit>paste.
    5. Position selection with move tool.

  • How to make white part of gif file transparent?

I have an icon and I would like to change the color of its white part by changing the background color. If I could set the white part to be transparent I could do this. Any ideas how this can be done?

If you know Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks or somethin like that, you can do it easily just by deleting the parts of the image which you don't want. By default it will make those parts transparent. Remember this can only be possible in GIF format.
For a new image just open a new file in PhotoShop, there you will get options for the color of background, set it to transparent and start drwing in the area. The parts on which you won't make any drawing will be transparent.
Note: Don't try to fill transparent areas with white, as it will loose its transparency.

  • How do you make the background of your photo transparent?

I have just cropped my pic using elements 12 and saved it as a png but it still has white corners around my circular pic. How do I get rid of the white corners?
    Thanks

Rename the Background layer to anything else; this converts it to a "regular" layer. Select the white corners using the Magic Wand and Delete the selection. The white will be replaced by transparency.
Initially, before you do the crop you can convert the Background layer. Then after cropping, with the circular selection still active, invert the circular selection and Delete.

  • How do I make the background of a file transparent (clear)?

I am trying to place our logo into a presentation. It always comes up with a white backround, altho it shows transparent in the photshop file. How do I get it to be clear around the name and art that is in the logo?

    Hi Mimi,
If your logo is coming up 'transparent' when you insert it into Photoshop but coming up with white background when you save it, it is one of the two things:
You have a background layer (white) in your photoshop file
You're exporting as JPEG or one of the other file formats that doesn't support transparency
Follow these steps to get a transparent image from Photoshop for use in other programs such as Powerpoint or Word.
Create a new document in Photoshop (File > New), ensure your background content setting is 'Transparent' as shown above
Notice that your document doesn't have any white background
Click File > Place and choose your logo file into Photoshop
Notice the image I've placed is already a transparent image (based on your original question)
Click on 'Crop' tool as shown above on the left and change setting to 'Unconstrained' as shown above. This will let you crop your image to the size of your logo before exporting it. Choose the sliders and select your crop area for the image. Hit Enter once you've selected your area.
Now you'll have something like this. Your photoshop file will be cropped to your image and we're now ready to export this as an image.
File > Save As to directly export this as a usable file for other applications. You could also first 'Save' the file as .PSD (for future editing) and then proceed to 'Save As'.
Ensure the file format is 'PNG' or 'GIF''. This allows for transparency and also is lesser in filesize. I prefer PNG due to its superior quality. Hit Save.
This is the output PNG file - a transparent file.
    Trust this helps.
Feel free to post back if you have any more questions.
    Cheers,
    ST

  • How Do I Make Bitmap, Graphic, or Movie Clip into a clickable link??

    I am designing a website entirely in flash (macromedia flash) but I cannot get the bitmap, graphics, or movie clips clickable links, although when hovered over turns into a hand.  Any suggestions? I have also tried the following script;
    on (release){
    getURL("http://www.google.com/", "_blank")
Obviously I didnt use google, but still no go.
I'm hot linking the raw fla file below.  I bought this template online and have modified it alot (all cosmetic) but I cant get the tabs to be links!?  I used action script (the one posted above) in every layer and the text inside the tabs.  But still doesnt work Does anybody know whats wrong?
Sorry, but I dont know much in action script, I'm a c++ and web designer, this is my first time working in only flash.
    http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2449178_iizru/_menu2_fv8.fla
Here is my modded template in my website:  http://9karim.com/adminI only need to modify the menu bar

I wouldn't say you're screwed, you just have some work ahead of you to find out what are actually the buttons in that thing.  If you look at the file on stage you'll see a large turquoise shape (an invisible button) that when you select it shows it has an instance name of "menu"... I still couldn't figure out what it has to do with those animated tabs, but it may lead to further discoveries.
There's a lot of stuff woven into that file, and with the frame by frame animation, it's hard to isolate just about anything.  Based on what I see in the library as far as object naming goes, and your not knowing what's where, I'd conclude that this is an "acquired" design that has been decompiled into the fla you are trying to figure out.  While I haven't any experience with decompiled files, it wouldn't surprise me if there is an increased level of complexity as a result of how the decompiler rebuilt the file.

  • HOW DO I Make White Background of an Image layer transparent?

i used photoshop to open a photo with a person and background and delete the background so that now it's white with the person still fully intact.
I open the file in and lay this image layer on top of another video layer track in fcut express and hoped that the background would be gone so it would look like my person is in the movie. I saved the pic as JPEG even tried it with GIF and then selected the SCREEN option or the subract or the alpha and nothing makes it transparent .how?
    fcut express 3.5.1

yes, use psd (tiff or png) format. jpg will not work.
also, make sure you delete the "background" layer in photoshop. the picture should appear then sitting on a checkerboard indicating transparency. the background layer in photoshop by itself is not transparent by default.

  • ID 5.5 Interact. PDF, cannot remove white background for Multi-States and buttons.

    Hi
I am working on an Interactive PDF Portfolio document. The problem I have is with Multi-State object feature with several buttons going to states that need to be exported as a SWF and imported back into InDesign 5.5. See, the background of my entire doc. is GREY, but when I import the SWF (as directed in Lynda.com videos correctly) and export the entire doc as Interactive PDF and view it in Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 10.1.1) is when all the trouble starts.
When I try to get rid of the WHITE background around the Multi-State objects and the buttons for them (using Select Object Tool and then control+click on it to change the Properties to Transparent Background Appearance) it does not change, even when I go forward and backward to the page.
Does the option of removing white background and making it transparent work only for Animation, but not Multi-State feature with buttons?
Can anyone suggest any other tecnique to create a nice slide show that works in Interactive PDF in ID CS5.5? Please..
    Sincerely,
    in need of help,
    Eve

I have 8 Multi-State objects in one stack on the left and the 8 buttons for each state in the stack on the right. The background of my document is dark grey. There is space inbetween Multi-State objects and the buttons that show the grey background. But after exporting as SWF the Multi-States together with the buttons and placing the SWF back in the PDF file, the space inbetween Multi-States and buttons that is supposed to show the grey background appears white. The problem is that I cannot even change this white background to transparent in Acrobat Pro, as well. I used to do that to animations and it worked, but not in this case.
