Help figuring out a makepkg problem (Song-bird)
I've tried today to make a package based on AUR PKGBUILDs of Song-bird. I'm a bit confused since I don't know whether I've got a problem or there's something wrong with the package alternatively the download.
Anyway this happens all the time with both Song-bird and the nightly build in AUR:
HTTP-begäran skickad, väntar på svar... 200 OK
Längd: 19727562 (19M) [binary/octet-stream]
Sparar till "Songbird_0.4_linux-i686.tar.gz".

/usr/bin/makepkg: line 455: 18013 Avbruten (SIGABRT) $dlclient "$netfile"
==> ERROR: Failure while downloading Songbird_0.4_linux-i686.tar.gz
I don't know what affect the line 455 has on this, but to make it easier here it is:
local netfile
for netfile in ${source[@]}; do <-----this is line 455
local file=$(strip_url "$netfile")
if [ -f "$startdir/$file" ]; then
msg2 "$(gettext "Found %s in build dir")" "$file"
cp -s --remove-destination "$startdir/$file" "$srcdir/"
continue
elif [ -f "$SRCDEST/$file" ]; then
msg2 "$(gettext "Using cached copy of %s")" "$file"
cp -s --remove-destination "$SRCDEST/$file" "$srcdir/"
continue
fi
I don't have any issues with other packages, or at least not the ones I've made until today. On a previous Arch system I didn't have any problems with Song-bird.
For clarity: I'm making it as user, fakeroot, in my home folder, and I've got all permissions for it (I did have permission problems at the beginning of this ftp-install, but that's a know issue, so that has been korrekted and /tmp also has 1777 permissions). Still something doesn't work out right.
Help appreciated.
Regards,
KimTjik
Last edited by KimTjik (2008-02-18 20:15:44)Hm, something seems wrong here, but I don't know what. wget ends with the same error, but downloading through FireFox works.
Honestly, I don't know what to fix or how.
Edit: after some more search I see that other also have a problem with this: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43406 and bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/9299

Unfortunately, about a month or two ago, the terrible truth dawned upon me - not every GNU/Linux user uses Arch Linux.
Because of this, when packaging software, you have to bundle packages for Ubuntu, Fedora, and most of the other major flavours of GNU/Linux as well.
However, after discovering unipkg, I decided to modify it to give it much more functionality.
AUR Link
unipkg really is just a modified version of makepkg. Because I currently don't know how to make a man page, here's a nice list of what I've added to makepkg 3.4.1, or unipkg 1.0:
--forcearch <architecture> - This enables you to force a certain architecture to be written to the package even if it is not your own package. It is the maintainer's responsibility to ensure that this actually compiles for that architecture by modifying the PKGBUILD and makefiles to compile for that architecture (generally intended for 64-bit systems).
--nobuild - This does not run the build function when building a package. Useful when you've already built the files for a package but want to use them in multiple packages. When -f is used alongside this option, the pkg/ directory will not be deleted.
-P <extension> - This changes the file extension for the package (used in unipkg).
Currently, .deb and .lzm are supported. I'm working on .rpm, but for now, it isn't finished, and will result in an error if you choose it.
Several variables were also added to PKGBUILD:
bugsurl - The URL of a bug tracker.
pkglongdesc - Description for the package (multi-line description; note that periods on blank lines will automatically be added for Debian packages).
debsection - The section that the package belongs into - for debian packages.
debpriority - The priority of the package - for debian packages.
deboriginal - Original package - for debian packages.
debtags - Tags for the package - for debian packages.
debsrcpkg - A source package that the package originated from - for debian packages.
debdepends - Dependencies for debian packages.
debpredepends - Pre-dependencies (required for the pre-installation script) for debian packages.
debrecommends - Shows a warning if packages are not installed when the package is installed - for debian packages.
debsuggests - Optional dependencies for debian packages.
debconflicts - Conflicting packages for debian packages.
debreplaces - Replacements for debian packages.
debprovides - Provided packages for debian packages.
debpreinst - Pre-installation script for debian packages.
debprerm - Pre-removal script for debian packages.
debpostinst - Post-installation script for debian packages.
debpostrm - Post-removal script for debian packages.
rpmgroup - Group that the package is in - for RPM packages.
lzmpostinst - Post-installation script for slackware packages.
Something to note is that automatically, architectures will be converted to i386 and amd64 when building Debian packages. I'll probably change this later, however, these are the architectures that Ubuntu uses.
I'm trying to figure out RPM's format so that I don't have to use the official tools from the AUR, but I might eventually give up and use them. The site doesn't explain it very well.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Last edited by RetroX (2010-09-13 01:32:17)Well, it was a direct copy from makepkg. That's a makepkg problem, not mine. It if does get modified in a future version, I will modify it.
Of course, I didn't know much bash when I initially created the package. I will keep that in mind.

[solved] problem with zsh and makepkg
I've had this problem for quite a while, but now finally it really starts pissing me off
When I want to build a package with makepkg and the PKGBUILD has versioned dependencies, makepkg isn't able to resolve the dependencies.
An example to demonstrate what this looks like
PKGBUILD:
# Maintainer: Army <[email protected]>
pkgname=ardour3-svn
_realname=ardour3
pkgver=7501
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="A multichannel hard disk recorder and digital audio workstation"
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
url="http://www.ardour.org"
license=('GPL')
depends=("util-linux-ng" "liblrdf>=0.4.0" "liblo" "libgnomecanvasmm>=2.12.0" "slv2>=0.6.4" "aubio")
makedepends=("boost>=1.39" "cppunit>=1.12.0" "soundtouch" "libvorbis>=1.1.2" "flac>=1.2.1" "python>=2.3" "jack-audio-connection-kit-svn")
source=(${pkgname}.desktop)
_svntrunk=http://subversion.ardour.org/svn/ardour2/branches/3.0
_svnmod=${_realname}
build() {
cd ${srcdir}
rm -rf ${_svnmod}-build
svn co ${_svntrunk} ${_svnmod}
cp -rf ${_svnmod} ${_svnmod}-build
cd ${_svnmod}-build
./waf configure --prefix=/usr --configdir=/etc --tranzport --freesound --freedesktop --lv2 -p
./waf build
DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" ./waf install
# install some freedesktop.org compatibility
install -Dm644 "${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop" "${pkgdir}/usr/share/applications/${_realname}.desktop"
md5sums=('2736c648e452ae45c703e48cf64f75e7')
and this is the output:
% makepkg -sir
==> Bestimme letzte SVN-Revision...
-> Gefundene Version: 7501
==> Erstelle Paket: ardour3-svn 7501-1 (Di 27. Jul 00:44:01 CEST 2010)

==> Installiere fehlende Abhängigkeiten...
Passwort:
zsh:1: 1.39 not found
==> Fehlende Abhängigkeiten:
-> boost>=1.39
-> cppunit>=1.12.0
Seems like it changes
makedepends=("boost>=1.39" "cppunit>=1.12.0" ...)
to
makedepends=("boost" "1.39" "cppunit" "1.12.0" ...)
It doesn't matter if I put the dependencies into " or ' nothing, it's always the same output. I already created a new user to verify the situation, same problem there. With bash as shell all runs fine.
I use grml-zsh-config from [extra], but that cannot be the trouble maker, I tested it with an uninstalled grml-zsh-config and a blank ~/.zshrc, still the same.
How do you zsh users do this??
Thanks for any idea!

Problems with Yaourt and makepkg.conf
Hi all,
So, I've recently switched all the way over to Arch Linux after playing around with it for some time. And it's been great! I am very glad I did it.
I've been using yaourt to install all of my humble indie bundle games, and it's been going well until I tried to install mark of the ninja.
Every time I try to install ANYTHING on yaourt now, I get these types of error messages:
[nicholas@nicholas ~]$ yaourt -s markoftheninja-hib

So, the problem is that "for" in line 89 is being treated like a command. Which is very strange. Also, I already have fakeroot set up in makepkg.conf. And, last, I also have the architecture specified in the PKGBUILD. So, I'm a bit at a loss here. I would really appreciate any help. -
Build problem with makepkg of linux in the abs(core/linux)
Hi,all
I wanted to have a taste of systemtap, I read this page:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemtap,and followed the guide,but had problem like this:
scripts/link-vmlinux.sh: line 135: ./.config: No such file or directory
It looks like the configuration file is gone, I checked a little about PKGBUILD, and finded the .config was generated at almost the begining, and i didn't know why it comed this problem.
Is there anyone have experience like this and help me ?
PS: my current linux version is
# pacman -Q linux
linux 3.7.9-2
and use the latest core/linux in abs repohi ,
for the ifconfig u will not get the settings done for the static address bcoz while installing linux i have configured for using the static address method and when i checked for connecting to internet i was not able to so using command line i changed for DHCP configuration and then internet worked
i changed the following files
1. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
2. /etc/sysconfig/network
3. ifup eth0
4.ifconfig eth0 up
5.chkconfig
6.service network restart
after doing all these i checked for connecting to internet and was successful
why internet does not work in linux when configured for static address
Can we go for dual boot
plz answer for these also i will thankful

Makepkg.conf and compilation problem
Hi!
In my makepkg.conf I have:
CARCH="x86_64"
CHOST="x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu"
#-- Exclusive: will only run on -march=x86-64
# -march (or -mcpu) builds exclusively for an architecture
# -mtune optimizes for an architecture, but builds for whole processor family
CFLAGS="-march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe" #Arch wiki says this
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
#-- Make Flags: change this for DistCC/SMP systems
MAKEFLAGS="-j5"
and when I try to makepkg for smting (for example arora) I get:
g++ -c -m64 -pipe -march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2...
My gcc is 4.3.3. AMD Phenom II x4 910 processor.
Why is this two -march are different?It's the only one package. And it fails to build every time on different files with the same error. And if I just enter ./src/arora-build and run qmake && make it does compile ok.
The error example:
.obj/moc_settings.o: file not recognized: File truncated
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
P.S. PKGBUILD is community/arora-git

[SOLVED] (PKGBUILD) problem with makepkg for go-openoffice
[SOLVED]: In the PKGBUILD, there's a function before build(), named mksource() and a comment "source PKGBUILD && mksource".
Just run it first, then copy the "/tmp/go-openoffice-source/go-openoffice-ooo320-m12.tar.xz", run "makepkg -s" as usual.
Thanks :D
Hi, I tried to makepkg for extra/go-openoffice (from abs) by using "makepkg -s" on my x86_64 laptop, and get the following error (before the build begin):
==> ERROR: go-openoffice-ooo320-m12.tar.xz was not found in the build directory and is not a URL.
I understand that this comes from
pkgname=go-openoffice
_ootag=ooo320-m12 # m12 = OOo 3.2.0 RC5
source=(${_mirror}/${_go_tree}/ooo-build-${_GOver}.tar.gz
ArchLinux.patch
${pkgname}-${_ootag}.tar.xz
But, I don't know where to find this "go-openoffice-ooo320-m12.tar.xz". Can you please help me to figure out where to find it? Thank you!
Following is the PKGBUILD for extra/go-openoffice (from abs)

I suppose that the function can be run as $1, I don't know (I mean `bash PKGBUILD mksource`). Nevertheless, you know what to do now

Hi,
I'm trying to update the 'subversion' package, since it is only at 1.4 right now. I did a cp of the /var/abs/extra/subversion to my home directory for testing. I modified the PKGBUILD file the following ways:
1) Changed the pkgver to 1.5.1
2) Changed the URL to the subversion 1.5.1 package
3) Updated the MD5 hash of the new version
4) Changed pkgrel from 4 to 5.
I now run "makepkg" in the root of my temp copy of the subversion package and I get the following:
==> Making package: subversion 1.5.1-5 (Sat Aug 2 20:24:17 PDT 2008)
==> Checking Runtime Dependencies...
==> Missing Dependencies:
-> neon>=0.28.2-2
-> apr-util>=1.3.2-2
==> Checking Buildtime Dependencies...
==> Missing Dependencies:
-> apache>=2.2.9-3
-> swig>=1.3.31
-> jdk
-> jre
-> autoconf
==> ERROR: Could not resolve all dependencies.
I'm extremely new to Archlinux (and linux in general), so I'm not really certain what this means. I did read the Wiki but I'm still unclear. Help is appreciated.void.pointer wrote:Oh, okay. I figured makepkg would install those dependencies for me.
It will if you tell it to.
man makepkg:
-s, --syncdeps
Install missing dependencies using pacman. When build-time or
run-time dependencies are not found, pacman will try to resolve
them. If successful, the missing packages will be downloaded and
installed.
cheers, -
I ran makepkg for scim and got the following error...
==> ERROR: scim.install was not found in the build directory and is not a proper URL.the file scim.install isn't in the current directory, you have to copy it in the same directory of the PKGBUILD.

Problem building kernel with makepkg
I tried several times building a custom 2.6.8.1 kernel with makepkg and the PKGBUILD file obtained from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ker … with%20ABS. Unfortionately, the process allways ends with the following error:
ln: when making multiple links, last argument must be a directory
make: *** [_modinst_] Error 1
==> ERROR: Build Failed. Aborting...
Is there something wrong with the build file posted on the wiki or am I doing something stupid?Err... I might have done a small mistake in my previous post.
I didn't try to build the kernel using the Wiki page above.
I've used http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bui … with%20ABS
You can find below the revised PKGBUILD for that page. It might look weird, but it's very functional. It should also work with the stock kernels.
This PKGBUILD includes kernel version/revision autodetection. This helps when you apply patches which change those variables (such as ck, mm etc.). The changes I've made automatically change the package details (pkgname, pkgver, pkgdesc) to reflect the kernel changes.
Please test because I've made some cosmetic changes lately which might have scrambled something around there. If you find it working, please post here and I'll put it in the Wiki page above. Maybe it could also be used as a base for building kernels with the ABS.
Any feedback is welcomed. Enjoy.

[solved] Makepkg fails to sign package w/o asking password.
I'm not sure when exactly this issue really started happening, but it was somewhere around the time that the new versions of Pacman and gnupg came out (a few weeks).
I have a local ~/.makepkg.conf configured to sign any package I build with my key. The issue is that once any package completes building, and it is ready to be signed, I will sometimes be presented with a Pinentry screen to enter my password for signing the package and sometimes it will just fail to sign the package without ever asking for my password. There is no indication as to why it failed in the terminal output nor in the journal.
This is happening on both of my Arch systems, so I know it's not just a localized issue with my one computer.

JanOk, thanks. My confusion was because I was unaware that makepkg was simply a bash script.
I did what you suggested, and copied it to my home directory, edited the create_signature section to add the --verbose option and changed it to output to stdout. I added --verbose, --debug-level guru, and --log-file options to my gpg-agent.conf file. I ran the makepkg process twice, and as expected it asked for a password the first attempt and failed immediately on the second attempt. When it should be loading a cached password, it is bombing out with a "Broken pipe" error.

Problem with installing nvidia drivers, like to keep existing kernel *
Hi All
I download and install the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run from the nvidia web site because when I try to download from pacman
it said the following
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ sudo pacman -S nvidia-173xx

:: nvidia-173xx-utils conflicts with libgl. Remove libgl? [Y/n] y

so you see it want to upgrade my kernel which I dont want. because my kile and k3b programs gives Segmentation fault when i try to start them.
However after installing miro i start to get Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0 error. See below a copy of my rc.conf, xorg, section of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log files and error messages from running glxinfo and glxgears.

i m having problem to burn any kind of DVD format with my dvd recorder Plextor PX-750A. the software that i'm using is K3B.
the first debug that i get is that:
System

QT Version: 3.3.8
Kernel: 2.6.21-ARCH
Devices

Used versions

growisofs
Executing 'builtin_dd if=/dev/fd/0 of=/dev/sr0 obs=32k seek=0'
:-[ MODE SENSE#2A failed with SK=4h/ASC=08h/ACQ=03h]: Input/output error
growisofs command:
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=/dev/fd/0 -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=tracksize:1720400 -dvd-compat -speed=8 -use-the-force-luke=bufsize:32m
then i did an upgrade to the firmware of Plextor from 1.02 to 1.03
but still doesnt burn. the debug from the second is this:

Sorry, I've been playing with this stuff so long ( I started with RedHat 5.2), that I have forgotton how to explain the steps. But, if you untar the package (I do it in its own directory} You should be able to move the binary to a location of you choice. I think you need someone more experienced than me to describe the steps.
ok and ty very much for help so far
ps: did you find any solution with using k3b?
i like it more in a graphical enviroment.
