Making a 4X6 portrait from photo shot landscape mode.

How can I crop a landscape into a  4X6 portrait? When I do it, the constraints ruin the effect . I want more control of the the dimensions. I-Photo gives you a postcard-portrait choice...but not the control I am seeking.

If you want to create a portrait 4x6 from a landscape 4x6 you will have to crop out some of the original image.  There's not other way around it.
Once you select the 4x6 and portrait you can rezise that avertical 4x6 crop zone to any size you'd like.
It doesn't have to be the full height of the image.  But the aspect ratio is fixed.

  • Problems printing portrait photos in landscape mode

I have Photoshop Elements 5.0. I'm making a photo calendar, so I need to print out all of my photos in a landscape layout. A couple of them are portraits, though, and Photoshop is rotating those 90 degrees no matter what I try so that they'll fit on the full page. I don't recall having this problem last year, so I suspect that I'm missing something obvious. Can someone help me out?

I would suggest opening a new document in landscape then copying and pasting the portrait onto it. This method will also allow you to position it and add color/text/clipart/other photos to the remaining white space.

  • Portrait images print in landscape mode

I've just installed iLife '06 and imported some images into a new library.
If I rotate an image to portrait, it then appears as a portrait in all thumbnails; but if I view the image to edit it or if I drag it to a book page, it displays as landscape. Oddly, if I have iPhoto show the page's thumbnail, the image appears as portrait in that thumbnail as well...but on the page itself, it's landscape. If I print it, it prints in landscape as well.
Am I doing something wrong, or is iPhoto 6.0 simply broken? (It crashed on me once, too.)

If the photos are already rotated to portrait before they are imported into iPhoto, there's no problem; they get layed out and printed just as you'd expect. There's only a problem if I rotate them in iPhoto.
I'm using the "Classic" template, for what it's worth.

& u will see the lock/unlock option there

  • Why can't I view photos in landscape mode in iOS 7 on iPhone 5???

Some video Apps only portrait as well. Frustrating.

Because that is how iOS 7 does it. To make a suggestion to Apple:

iPhone 6 - I can only send photos in landscape mode via iMessage. The address line disappears when I try to send a portrait mode photo. Gone so far as erasing all content and settings. Problem persists.

    Howdy jackbry,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you haven’t already, you can try resolving the issue with not being able to send iMessages that contain portrait photos by restoring your iPhone to factory settings as shown in this article:

  • Portrait oriented photos are not sync'ed to MobileMe gallery

I've tried to upload some pictures of an event to my MobileMe account:
I've selected the photos, clicked on MobileMe and selected the option to allow downloads.
The photos get synced but those photos that were originally taken in portrait mode (and autorotated by the camera or iPhoto) didn't show up in my MobileMe gallery! Also, those missing photos are still flagged as "not yet sync'ed" in the iPhoto preview of the shared gallery. If I disable the option to allow downloads, all photos are uploaded correctly.
Interestingly, it does not help to rotate the portrait photos to landscape mode, they still don't get synced. And landscaped photos that are rotated to portrait are synced normally. It only affects those photos that were originally taken in portrait mode.
(In case it helps: I used a Canon EOS 450D to take those pictures.)
    Best regards,
    RaCha

    RaCha2:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There should be no problem using autorotated photos in a web gallery. This test gallery is composed entirely of auto-rotated photos from a Canon SD700 and all uploaded and displayed as expected. .
First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and publish again. Next, if needed, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
You don't want to convert to gifs as they only support 256 colors and would make your photo look poorly.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Turn off landscape mode on the music player

    Hello,
Is there away to keep the music player on the iphone from switching to landscape mode? The slightest movement switches it to landscape mode and I can't see the progress bar. (important for my mp3s which are several hours).
I've been all over the settings, so i'm assuming I can't, but I'd thought I'd ask.
    Thanks!

Sorry, you can't disable landscape mode. You can send feedback to Apple here... http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Make sure you don't have the lock on. I is on the other side of the ipod controls in the new recently used app bar at the bottom after double clicking the home button.

  • All my photos sync in landscape mode (even portrait ones) from my Mac IOS 7 on my new iPad Aid. How can I fix this?

WHen i sync my new iPad Air IOS 7 , all my photos sync in landscape mode.  How can I keep the original orientation of photos? If I edit and rotate, it is saved in camera roll, not in the album.

Just to conclude, and give hope for any still suffering, I succesfully upgraded my iPAD to ios5 yesterday evening.
I did have a conversation with Apple support a couple of days agao, in line with many others I was given various reasons why things oustide the Apple environment might be the root cause such as
    - ports blocked on the network I was using (although when I asked which ones they weren't certain - "80 and 442 we think" was the response
    - a fault on the iPAD
    - slow network connection
The more interesting part of teh conversation was Apple was that the firmware update part of the install actually involves quite a lot of interaction with apple servers. My conclusion would be that the well documented performance problems in the early days after ios5 release were the root cause of my problem - reference to network ports. iPAD faults were just a smokescreen.
My key learning - don't upgrade soon after a major release, I already knew this but when offered an update I didn't go back and check precisley when it had been released so I should have paid more attention :-)

  • Portrait (vertical) photos blurry in iPhoto (except when rotated landscape)

In iPhoto '09 with my Canon G11, all portrait (vertical) photos appear blurry. When these same photos are viewed in Preview or rotated to lie on their side in iPhoto however they are fine. This is a huge problem as I just got back from a long trip where I deleted all blurry vertical photos for the first few weeks thinking it was a problem with my camera (the lens has a scratch on it that I believed might be affecting focus on vertical shots) until I did some testing and realised it was iPhoto that was at fault and the photos were perfectly fine.
Is there any way to get iPhoto to display those photos correctly (I have tried various full screen and zooming modes to no avail, and there seems to be no smoothing setting in iPhoto preferences) so that I can at least look at them and use them in a slideshow, without having to open every single vertical photo separately in another editor?

I've just discovered a similar issue, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with vertical or horizontal. At least it is still happening when I turn photos sideways.
    To be very clear here
    1) This is not a thumbnail issue, these are the original files taken from my camera minutes ago.
    2) This is not initial blurriness while the photo loads.
    3) I only notice it in full screen (edit) mode because it's actually quite subtle.
    4) Photos display correctly (sharp) when you zoom in a little, but return to blurry when you zoom back out.
    5) Appears to be random, with one nearly identical shot being crisp and the next appears blurry, but the affect seems to be specific to particular images (e.g. it doesn't come and go randomly regardless of which pictures you happen to be looking at. If a photo is blurry, it will stay that way even if you've closed iPhoto and reopened it).
    6) Photos are from a Nikon D5000
Any suggestions? This is a ridiculous hassle as the OP mentioned, and is completely unacceptable in any photo editing/browsing software.

  • Video shot in portrait show up as landscape?

Videos shot in portrait mode, downloaded and brought back on the iPhone through iTunes only play in landscape mode, with the top and bottom parts of the video cut off.
The small preview before you play it looks correct (portrait), but the playback is wrong (landscape). Any ideas how to correct this? The videos played correctly on the camera roll. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Some photo software and sometimes some cameras don't seem to tag photo's correctly for the Apple TV, try using different photo software.

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

When making a movie with iMovie from Photos, some of them seems to move when watching on screen or TV.
It seems to be a brillance problem but I tried to make the light or the blank lower without result.

    Hello
The movement you see on photos in iMovie is most likely the Ken Burns motion effect, which you can modify or turn off.
