Making a BB10 Playbook

Hello Everyone,
I'm a huge BlackBerry fan, and at the moment i'm rebuilding my car from ground on.
One of the new things that will be done is an build in tablet that can read all my sensor information from the computer realtime.
I have 2 option, get a new Nexus tablet.. high specs, but it's android and i hate android
Or strip a Playbook and a Z10 and put them together.. have Z10 hardware with playbook casing and playbook screen.
I know the 1024x600 resolution with the playbook.
I wonder if this is possible in the first place, are screens in BB10/playbook exchangable?
Example, can i connect my Z10 screen to a Q10 mainboard and visa verde?

I dont think the screens are not inter changable as their resolution are not the same

  • BB10, PlayBook and MacBook Pro OSX

Here's my situation.  Any help would be appreciated.
I work for a small-medium sized business.  We run Exchange/Outlook on Dell laptops.  I have a corporate BlackBerry Bold 9780.  We are making the move to iPhone5 this summer, and I have a PlayBook 64GB Wi-fi.
I just went out a month ago and bought a MacBook Pro because that Dell was 'less than perfect'.  I am running Mac Mountain Lion instead of Windows.  That means Mac Mail, Calendar and Contacts.  I have added my Exchange credentials and my Gmail credentials into Mail and Calendar and they are working fine.  Only hassle so far is I can't seem to create a new folder in the Exchange environment.  My exchange contacts have come across fine as well.  I don't use gmail for contacts, just for personal email and my personal and my kids calendars (sports events etc.)
But contacts is a pain in the **bleep**.  Really not happy. Syncing to exchange and keeping everything together is brutal.
Love that the PlayBook adds in LinkedIn and Twitter.  Think that contact systems works great.
I'm planning to get a Z10, (either I convince the President to not issue me an iPhone, or I go out and get one myself).
Ideally, I'd like to try to keep all my contacts somewhere where they can sync properly.  Love to bypass the corporate exchange environment for contacts if possible.
So, what's the best platform/method to do this? Is google the answer to keep all my contacts or is there something else? Outlook for Mac maybe?

You can purchase Mountain Lion in the Mac App Store and you may install it on both machines provided they meet the Mountain Lion requirements which are listed here (see 'Supported Models'):
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Once done you can set up iCloud on both Macs.

  • Has RIM discontinued production of all Playbooks?

I live in the us and I can't find a single Playbook anywhere. Walmart and best buy and pretty much all the top dog retail chains are sold out. I even went as far as to check the "where to buy" section on this website and it takes me to blackberry Mexico or something.

Sure appears to be that way. All accessories are being heavily discounted. PlayBooks are not being replenished at retail stores either.
In light of BB10 launching in 1.5 days, I think we're going to soon find out if indeed RIM has (or is going to) release a new tablet (they may even call it something new). Several months ago, I posted on here an official statement from RIM stating that they were indeed discontinuing production of 16GB PlayBooks and were going to concentrate on higher capacity ones (32 and 64GB). I don't think that statement was entirely accurate however since RIM just let the existing supply dry up and the firesale of discounted tablets continued. They may have had to fulfill supply agreements with vendors and suppliers just to satisfy all parties. The LTE device which had slightly higer specifications (CPU was 1.5 GHz) appears to be killed off too as I have come across a listing that Bell (a large Canadian telecommunications company) has end of life'd the product (EOL) as of Jan 23, 2012.
Now that supply has obviously dwindled to next to nothing, the next logical steps are for RIM to (may do any or all of these) a) release a new PlayBook of sometype and specification running BB OS 10. b) Update the PlayBook LTE and Wi-Fi tablets as we know them now to BB OS 10 (which has been stated several times that they are indeed going to do this. c) Do nothing and kill off tablets altogether for the time being. I find point c) to be the most unlikely as they've officialy stated that they're very much in the tablet business and plan on supporting PlayBook users. This makes sense as the PlayBook runs QNX which is the codebase that the entire BB OS 10 platform is based upon. In fact, the PlayBook is the incubator of this operating system and OS platform. As such, it makes sense that RIM will release a new OS version for the PlayBook to satisfy their existing customer base. Alienating 2 million+ users is not a very good idea in my opinion...
Keep in mind the PlayBook is 2 years old now. It is out of date spec wise compared to the competition and due for an overhaul/update. All of this makes sense as to why the original PlayBook's are no longer being produced. Not only that, if indeed RIM is going to keep making the existing PlayBook, they will have to release it with the new BB OS 10 on it and doing that with boxed products on shelves can't be done easily. Releasing any new tablets in production will have their new OS image on them - if indeed they keep producing them.
According to a leaked internal product roadmap that has appeared on the web (and has been incredibly accurate too for the record) a new 10" tablet nicknamed BlackForest at 128 GB was due to come to marke tin Q3/ 2013.
Anyhow, we're going to more than likely get a sense of what exactly RIM's up to with regards to BB 10 and the entire PlayBook line once BB 10 officially launches here in 1.5 days.  I doubt you'll get much more info on this until then.

  • BB 10 Playbook OS

does it charges with portable charger ?

Sorry, there is currently no BB10 Playbook
(but, since there is no removable battery on the Playbook, the Playbook must be charged with a portable charger, there no other way.

  • How can i use google play on my blackberry 10

    Hello,
I'm a bit confused about the product description of Blackberry 10.
The usage of 700000 Apps? From the Android App Store from Google play?
Well goggle play isn't working on my Blackberry Z10 (Swisscom)
Any ideas how I can handle Android Apps on a BB10?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Sideloading Android apps isn't as convenient as using the app store, unfortunately, but it's pretty simple. google around for complete instructions, but I used the BB10/Playbook Chrome extension. I set the IP address to the same as the BB 10 device I'm using (settings/about/network dropdown on the BB10) and turned on the Development Mode (Settings/Security&Privacy/Development Mode). From there it's drag and drop Bar files.
Where to get Bar files? Many are available on
    http://apps.goodereader.com/apk-2-bar/ and
    http://apk2bar.org/
Note that sometimes only a very specific version of the Android app will work (hopefully OS10.2 will expand the universe). This can be a problem with apk2bar site.
If you are a tinkerer and you have an android device (like a nexus 7 tablet) that is rooted, you can create backups of installed apps, copy them to your computer, and convert the resulting APK to a BAR.
This is a list of the Android apps that I've found to work, most extremely well. I may attempt to bundle all the files and put them into a torrent link for others to download, though this is something of a project for me as I'm a newbie to torrents.
Frankly, I see no reason why a curated Android App Store shouldn't be available natively for the BlackBerry. Amazon has one for the Kindle Fire, and many other android devices have app stores that are limited to the apps that have been shown to work properly on the specific hardware of the device. While for some games sideloading is imperfect, for many (especially many utilities, socia, news reader, and podcast/audiobook apps) it is an excellent solution. I am sorry that no reliable repository of working Bar files has been established. I'm even more sorry that BlackBerry isn't out there flogging developers of the apps listed below to make official ports available on Blackberry Workd - they work out-of-the-box, without modification, why would a Dev not take the 30 min necessary to make an official port available? (Here's an idea: BlackBerry, set a team of interns on the taks of making official ports available, turn-key; then, contact the relevant Dev, say "Hey, would you like your app on App World? Just say 'yes' or 'no' and 'paid' or 'free' and you're done).

  • BlackBerry Z10 - Fast APK instalation tool

    Hi all,
Does someone know some PC tool for fast installation of multiple APK applications, please?
When I would like to uninstall Android Apps from Z10, I’m using “BB10 / PlayBook App Manager” add-on for Chrome. This I got as a tip from this forum and this works perfectly. Now I’m looking for another tool, which is able to Install APK files, because mentioned one can install BAR files only.
Note: To copy all APK files to BB and open each of them in File Manager and install one by one takes ages.
    Thanks

What was a great help in dialing while driving is now useless. Am I doing something wrong?
    hello mrmd,
you're not doing anything wrong. I had the exact same issue yesterday. Here is what I did to fix it:
in BlackBerry assistant, swipe down to reveal the top menu, and select settings.
A new window appears, toggle the "Full Assistance", then go back to the Assistant and try again.
do steps 1 & 2 again, and try again.
    It worked for me.

You need to download the .bar files to your computer, then sideload them from the computer to the playbook over wifi or USB using a sideloading tool  like Chrome Browser App Manager extension

  • How to setup BB10 contact to link to Playbook Video app?

I have a BB Passport device and one of my contacts has a Playbook Video link enabled. I am trying to recreate this for another user but nothing works. How do I create a BB10 contact to enable the Playbook Video link to a user with (only) a BB Playbook. I have the user's PIN and Blackberry ID. Thanks!

If you use buttons instead, it is possible to script adding the actions that you want. It involves creating a properly constructed FDF, saving it, and then importing it into the document. Buttons can be made to appear just like links. For more information, see: http://www.planetpdf.com/developer/article.asp?ContentID=6338

  • Is it worth porting new apps you launch on BB10 to the Playbook

I've been wondering, and maybe a developer would like to share success or failures, if it is worth publishing any new apps to support the Playbook.   When I'm about to push a new app to BB10, I come to the delema of whether it is worth my time to do the lttle extra formating work and working on the listing to publish the app for Playbooks.  I'm not sure if anyone on that platform is still downloading or purchasing new apps at this point.  Maybe one of the community members can share their experience.

  • BB10 browser - Hovering over Menu bar does not unfold items (Playbook can do this, but not Z30)

Using the browser to access https://www.voip.ms/m/index.php
On a Playbook, the menu items on the top bar unfold and allow user to select sub-menus.
On a Z30, nothing happens when hovering over the menu items.
The BB10 touch browser seems to miss a pointer feature : browser doesn't recognize the hover option in the voip.ms menu.

BB10 devices do not recognize the "hover" feature as you've described it, this is true. I don't have a PlayBook and cannot comment on any features available to it. However, you should be able to click for options where available. I know PC browsers have this feature but despite the BB10 browser being one of the most advanced mobile browsers, it does not incorporate this feature. All I can say is, if you can't do it on a BB10 browser, chances are you cannot do it on ANY other mobile browser.
    Cheers.

  • Here's a tease from a RIM PM on the status of BB10 for the PlayBook

This is a table scrap of positive news from a RIM Project Manager that something is in the pipes for the PlayBook for sure...when it will arrive is the unknown factor though. The question was: "So hows BB 10 for the PlayBook coming?" The reply says: "My lips are sealed! Good things to come. John" (If you right click on the image below and select view image it will enlarge in the same window in FireFox - most likely IE or Chrome too.)
I mean, we've heard nothing for quite some time officially that BB 10 was coming to the PlayBook. So, to me at least, this states that something is indeed coming to the PlayBook and reinforces that fact. It doesn't say anything else obviously. But reassurance is comforting.

RIM has stated all along that BB10 would be coming to the PlayBook sometime AFTER the launch of the BB10 for the smartphone devices. They've not been silent on that, and John's is just the latest in confirmations.
Thanks, can't wait to have it on the PB!

No one knows when, RIM has not announced anything certain.
IF all goes well with BB10, and handset devices are released late summer, fall 2012, I'd expect we might see it around then, or afterwards.
But, that's all just pure speculation.
