Making a book using iPhoto

If I make a book using iPhoto, what will it cost me to print a book approximately 30 pages long? Working on a wedding guest book. Also, is there any other information that might be helpful in this process? Thanks ahead of time .

Command (right) - click on the photo and select Fit to Frame in the contextual menu:
Not all frames in a theme offer that feature but most do.  The spread layout doesn't.

  • I'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning., i'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning.

I'm trying to do a book using Iphoto, but it no longer gives a low resolution warning like it used to in the older versions.
I don't know why it doesn't anymore, (or maybe I have to add it on somehow??) but it makes it difficult to know how much I can
zoom in on a picture and still have it be good printable resolution.
Does anyone know how to resolve this or add the warning to the latest version of iphoto?
    Thanks

With iPhoto 9 the low resolution for photos warning has been dropped. The only warning one will get now is for text that has overflowed the text box:
As Larry suggested send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to get it back. That's a big omission in my opinion.
You can determine what your minimum resolution is for your images (if all taken from the same camera) by dividing the pixel dimensions by the size of the larges frame in the book which would be 8.5 x 11. If it's at or above 150 dpi you'll be above Apple's previous resolution warning limit.

  • Working on making a book using lightroom 5

Working on making a book using lightroom 5 and printing with blurb.com.   My question is pertaining to the cover of book.  I have two images full bleed and text on the spine.  I can see that I can add an image to spine also so its not just a plain color.  But does anyone know how to be able to zoom or move image on spine.  I basically want the back or front image to bleed right over spine.  But there is no option I have seen to do this.  Its pretty basic book layout stuff.  Why does it seem that lightroom does not do it.

You cannot put an image on the spine. The spine has a text box only, and you cannot put images into a text box.
The only way to have (part of) an image showing on the spine is when you select the two-page spread for the cover. Then the image extends from left to right and goes over the spine.
For page-layout - and that includes the cover - you have to select one of the templates. There is no template with an image on the spine - except the full bleed.
Apart from that, I think it's wise not to put an image on the spine. The text - that is necessarily small - can be hard to read if it is on top of an image.

First confirm that you can create a PDF file of your book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. Post back with the results.

  • After making a book from iPhoto and showing it to friends, they now want one printed for them.  Is there a way I can share it with them so they can order their own or do I have to print it for them?

I created a book using iPhoto and it turned out great.  So much so that when I showed the book to people they wanted to order one for themselves.  Is there a way they can order the book without me having to order them?

You have to order it for them

  • Font style changes when making a book in iphoto

I am trying to make a book and the inner cover I wrote a little about our vacation. I wanted to make the font size larger so I clicked on the settings button below and this window popped up with "cover title:" "Cover Subtitle:" etc with the font style/Plain/and font size. When I went to change the "Flap Body" font size to make it larger to a size 14 and then clicked ok everyone of those options went from Helvetica Neue to the next font in the list which is ugly. I try to set it to Helvetica Neue and then they all change to another font??????? I ended up just doing open apple z to undo to the original. I use iphoto 7.1.4 and I use the 10.4.11 operating system. I have an imac g5 powerpc. It's not a life or death situation but it is annoying that I cannot change the font size of one thing without having it change the font style of all the options. Any suggestion would be great!!

I once overshot the limit by marking too many photos to fit within 99 pages, but I could never figure out how to fool the application and had to give up trying to add those 14 extra photos.
I asked a friend (who practically lives in Terminal) if he had any way of modifying that limit, but he reminded me that if their printing services are set up to bind books and bill for only 99 pages, fooling the application might be useless if the service only prints me a 99 page book and discards the additional pages.
I can understand that you wouldn't want to let people print 1000 page books, but I sent feedback anyway to allow me to increase the limit. Anyone know of any service that lets you print beyond iPhoto's limits?

  • Aperture 3 making Apple books using Outlook 2011

    Hi all,
I need to make several Apple books using library from aperture 3.  Problem is I cannot use Outlook '11 in mail preferences and still no solution (or I have not found one) that works like Aperture does with Entourage (now that I have removed that!!).  How do I export my apple book to Apple using my .mac account? I cannot believe that Apple have not added Outlook to preferences for mail.  Graduation completed by kids and I need to print books for grandfolks!  HELP PLEASE,  Thanks  Ed

If I understand your question correctly, you don't need Outlook to make a photo book in Aperture. The Aperture screen should have a  "Buy Book" clickable square in the upper right hand corner. Get your book ready and click the square. The book will automatically be sent to Apple for printing. You never need to go into Outlook.

  • Making a Collage using iPhoto

Is there a way of making a collage of photos with iPhoto using photos in my iPhoto library? The Card or Book approaches are awkward, lack flexibility for what I would like to achieve and don't yield a nice printable result.
    Jim

Not with iPhoto. It will take a 3rd party application to do what you want. Some are Pages (iWork); PhotoTiles; OmniGraffleand Posterino. Mosaics make from many other pictures can be done with MacOSaiX and MozoDomo.
Omnigraffle(up to 10 photos in the demo mode) and Pages are very easy to use. I created this 96 photo collage (20x30) with Omnigraffle.

  • Caution icons while making a book in iPhoto 5

hello. I've been working on two books (large hardbound), and both book layouts are littered with caution icons. For one of the books, it's for all of the images. For the other, they're scattered around. Most of these pictures are at least 1000x1000 pixels. Some of them are bigger, and some of them still get caution icons. What is the minimum pixelage that the images for the large hardbound book need to be in order to be considered acceptable? How does iPhoto determine whether an image will be low quality or not? How accurate is iPhoto's low quality image assessment?
Tried repairing disc permissions, and restarting. Also tried importing the photos to a different user and creating the book again. No difference.
Both books look fine in layout mode. Pretty crazy good, actually. I downloaded prefsetter, used it with iPhoto prefs and boosted the book dpi to 300, so that should improve the print quality. I thought about just sending the one to get printed to see what happens, since it's ready to go. Not quite sure I want to risk $35 bucks just yet, so I thought I'd look for some guidance from the more knowledgable.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

As luck would have it, I happen to have Graphic Converter as it came with my mac (yay). Unfortunately, it seems that every image I want to use for both these books is 72x72 dpi. I find that really disturbing. So are all my images worthless? Why does photoshop and both my digital cameras generate images in 72x72 dpi by default if it's inevitably such a low print quality?
I'll be honest. I've been poking around GC for about 30 minutes, and I have no idea how to convert anything to anything, let alone raise the DPI. I'm pretty discouraged at the moment. In photoshop, it seems that the default settings are set for 300 dpi "print resolution", and 72 dpi for "screen resolution." I can't find anything in GC that will confirm this. Just standard PPI, which is 72. So are the photoshop settings okay, or should I change them?
Could I use prefsetter to change the iPhoto book prefs to 72 instead of 300? Would that work for me or against me?
Any other thoughts on this would be most appreciated. I'm feeling a bit overwelmed, however, everything you've told me so far has been very helpful regardless.
    Thanks again,
    Ben

  • Books using iPhoto 6

I have successfully made books but I want to order 75 large soft cover copies of the one I have currently created. Because the quantity makes me nervous I have ordered one copy to check quality. Is this necessary? It is certainly an expensive way to check!

I'd definitely do this just to eliminate my own errors as well as those that the printing service or printers are likely to make.
Besides, if you have one master copy on hand that isn't stressing out the presses, then you have something to compare the other 75 with and be able to identify if the colors are progressively fading or something. What if 72 of the 75 printed with colors you didn't like? The master copy would prove that it's not the good 3 that need to be returned, otherwise you end up with an arbitrary standard. (*)it happens.
It's not unusual to miss something or even for some odd iPhoto service bug to show up between completing the book and seeing it all printed and delivered.
Hint: If you ctrl-click the area around the book page, you see a "Preview book" option that lets you preview the actual PDF being sent to iPhoto printing. This is a recent and very useful discovery for me.

  • Making a Book on iPhoto

If you've ever edited a book before, you will know what I am talking about. I made it so that on the left side there is one picture and on the right, it is blank. Is it possible for one picture to stretch to take up 2 pages?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Is this what you're looking to do? http://simnet.is/klipklap/iphoto/two-page-spread/
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
