    Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
    Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
    You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
    I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

    Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
    Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
    How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
    The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
    Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
    Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
    Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
    Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
    When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
    Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
    How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
    Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
    Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
    Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
    Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
    If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
    If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
    Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
    Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
    Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
    64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • "No Bootable Device" after failed Boot Camp installation (Windows 8 - 1TB Fusion Drive)

    On my new iMac /w a 1TB Fusion Drive, I tried to install Windows 8 (still technically unsupported) using the following method:
    http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/11/no-support-no-problem-inst alling-windows-8-on-a-mac-with-boot-camp/
    Everything was proceeding just fine; I had Boot Camp copy all of the Windows 8 files (a legitimate, store-bought copy) to a bootable USB drive - a feature only available on new Macs running Boot Camp Assistant that don't come with an internal optical drive - and create a 102 Gb partition on the Fusion Drive. It then rebooted and was proceeding through the Windows 8 setup wizard as should be expected, but it couldn't modify any of the partitions on the Fusion Drive and wouldn't proceed. I accepted defeat and decided I would just wait until Windows 8 is officially supported before trying again.
    Now, every time I turn the computer on, I get an error message saying "No Bootable Device...", unless I hold down the Option key and manually select "Macintosh HD" (the only boot device listed). I already removed the primary Windows 8 partition, but it hasn't fixed the issue.
    I'm thinking that it's one of the 'hidden' partitions causing it to behave like this, or something wrong with the EFI bootloader, but I don't know how to proceed. Any thoughts on this?

    I actually did try this (forgot to mention it), and it didn't fix the problem.
    However, I just resolved it on my own, doing what I probably should have tried before anything else: running "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility updated all of the boot preferences as it should have.

  • Problem with boot camp and windows 8

    I have a Macbook late 2009 with Mountain Lion. I want to install windows 8 with boot camp but when I am asked to enter drivers, windows 8 don't find them. I have downloaded drivers from boot camp assistant but they don't work. When Apple will provide ???

    Obviously Boot Camp does not support Win 8 at this time. When and IF Apple decides to do that no one here knows. This is a user to user forum. Perhaps you should call Apple support and ask them.

  • Login to WebApi (MVC + WebApi) with Microsoft Account from Windows Store App

    Hi
    How can I access a WebApi Controller (ASP.NET MVC+WebApi) that is secured with Microsoft Account from a Windows Store App?
    I have no idea how to login. I tried the LiveSDK but this gives me only access to OneDrive, Callender and so on.
    Could someone please point me in the right direction.
    Thanks
    Guenter

    Hi Guenter,
    To be clear, you are using Microsoft account as login and at same time you have your own REST service for other functionalities?
    Let's say if you login with LiveSDk, you should be able to get some access token, see this for more information:
    Signing users in, after that use the token to access your REST service, as I understand REST service is a kind of http request, we can use HTTPClient to request data from the address.
    I'm afraid there is no existing sample here but the only thing I found is HTTPClient sample:
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/HttpClient-sample-55700664, you can use POST to send your token information to the server.

  • Windows Storage Server 2008 - unzip with drag & drop from Windows 7 client fails

    Hello.
    As i asked this question in German and got no answer so i try it in English now.
    I have the following problem:
    We have a Windows SBS 2008, where we store our files. If somebody opens a ZIP-file on a network share from a Windows 7 Client (64 Bit) it is possible to drag & drop the content (multiple files) to a directory. So far everything works as expected.
    We now have an additional Windows Storage Server 2008 integrated in our domain (Buffalo Tera Station WS-QV8/R5), where we also store files. If somebody opens the same ZIP-file on a network share of this server from a Windows 7 Client and tries to drag &
    drop the content the following happens:
    1. only one file is extracted and to display the file a refresh of the explorer view is needed.
    2. when the drag & drop action is repeated a second file is extracted
    Not alle files are extracted and there is no error message or indication why this happens.
    The behaviour is reproducible from another Windows 7 Client (32 Bit).
    If we try to drag & drop the files from the ZIP-file on the Windows Storage Server network sahre to a directory on the SBS network share all files are extracted correctly.
    On the Windows Storage Server itself all files are extracted without problmems. Therefore it must be a problem with the combination of Windows Storage Server und Windows 7 Client accessing the files via network shares.
    Are there any ideas where this problem could be located? Has anybody the same phenomenon and maybe a solution for it?
    Thanks in advance

  • How to print boderless photos with 6525 printer from Windows 7

    Regardless of whatever setting I use with the 'Advanced' print menu in Windows or within Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, I STILL get a border around every print. I've even set 'Custom print size'  in Photoshop to the full 7 x 5"- and the on-screen preview image shows the paper size correctly filled without a border - but the printer still gives a border, like it or not!
    HELP!!!

    Hello Suffolkman,
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
    I understand that you are trying to print a 5x7 borderless photo with the Photosmart 6525, but it will not despite the setting you have entered.
    The 5x7 paper does support borderless, I was able to print one fine. You mentioned applying this under the Advanced setting, was this the area?
    If not, you can access this by right clicking on the printer from Devices and Printers, then Printer Preferences.
    Have you tried to print the photo from Windows Photo Viewer?
    Also, the HP Print and Scan Doctor is a great to you can utilize to ensure the drivers and software are functioning as they should.

  • Issues with Loading Images from a Jar File

    This code snippet basically loops through a jar of gifs and loads them into a hashmap to be used later. The images all load into the HashMap just fine, I tested and made sure their widths and heights were changing as well as the buffer size from gif to gif. The problem comes in when some of the images are loaded to be painted they are incomplete it looks as though part of the image came through but not all of it, while other images look just fine. The old way in which we loaded the graphics didn't involve getting them from a jar file. My question is, is this a common problem with loading images from a jar from an applet? For a while I had tried to approach the problem by getting the URL of the image in a jar and passing that into the toolkit and creating the image that way, I was unsuccessful in getting that to work.
    //app is the Japplet
    MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker(app);
    //jf represents the jar file obj, enum for looping through jar entries
    Enumeration e = jf.entries();
    Toolkit toolkit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    //buffer for reading image stream
    byte buffer [];
    while(e.hasMoreElements())
    fileName = e.nextElement().toString();
    InputStream inputstream = jf.getInputStream(jf.getEntry(fileName));
    buffer = new byte[inputstream.available()];
    inputstream.read(buffer);
    currentIm = toolkit.createImage(buffer);
    tracker.addImage(currentIm, 0);
    tracker.waitForAll();
    images.put(fileName.substring(0, fileName.indexOf(".")), currentIm);
    } //while
    }//try
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    }

    compressed files are not the problem. It is just the problem of the read not returning all the bytes. Here is a working implementation:
    InputStream is = jar.getInputStream(entry);
    ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream(1024);
    try{
    byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
    int read;
    while((read = is.read(buf)) > 0) {
    os.write(buf, 0, read);
    catch(Exception e){
         e.printStackTrace();
         return null;
    image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(os.toByteArray());
    This works but I think you end up opening the jar a second time and downloading it from the server again. Another way of getting the images is using the class loader:
    InputStream is = MyApplet.class.getResourceAsStream(strImageName);
    In this case, the image file needs to be at the same level than MyApplet.class but you don't get the benefit of enumerating of the images available in the jar.

  • Incorrect date with date from Windows ics Files since installing OS X Mountain

    since installing OS X mounting the introducing fo dates with windows ics files is 5 month earlier. With iPhone no problem.

    I'm having the same problem on my late 2008 MBP 15".  Never had a problem before installing Mountain Lion.   Now I have to reboot about 4-5 times a week.
    My computer doesn't lock up completely.    But Wi-Fi stops (you see only one black line on the WiFi icon), the clock stops (I was wondering why it seemed so early earlier tonight - the clock had been stopped for two hours) and many, but not all applications are "not responding".    However, if I try to quit the applications that appear to be okay, then they also become "not responding".   I have to force shut each application and then I can reboot using the Apple>Restart... command.
    One of the things I've noticed is that many times it's iTunes that has the "not responding" message when the other apps don't, even if I haven't used it.   I'm going to Quit iTunes and see if it still happens.
    I don't think it's heat related.  My computer feels no hotter than it ever did.
    If 10.8.1 fixes this, I'm okay with it (although it was still sloppy for Apple to release with such a bug.)    But the question is whether Apple even knows about it, since they provide no mechanism for non-developers to report bugs.

  • Whole disk encryption with boot camp?

    I'm a network administrator and have been dedicated Windows until now.  We are just about to receive our first Mac Air 13" in the office and trying to work out we can keep our security policy in tact whilst giving the flexibility of using Windows.
    Pretty sure we want to do boot camp so the user can decide which OS they want to go into and not have any performance issues.
    Do you know of any products that will encrypt the entire hard disk this without giving booting issues?
    Alternatively, if these products break booting they would have to log in to the Mac OS and then run a virtual machine (think it's called parrallels).  Is there a noticable performance hit on this?
    Thanks in advance - this is very new territoty for a long term windows fan boy
    Adam

    The encryption is dependant on the OS version. To my knowledge there is no way to Encrypt the Whole Drive with any one piece of software and then install both OS X and Windows on that drive. For the encryption to work it has to work with the OS installed. So you have OS X and then use Boot Camp to install Windows. Then use FileVault in OS X and whatever encryption system you want for the Windows partition/install.
    I could be complete mistaken.

  • How can I get MagicTrackpad to work with Boot Camp and Windows Vista?

    Just installed Lion and then installed Magic Trackpad. Now I need to know how to get the Magic Tackpad to work with Windows Vista in my Boot Camp partition. Windows Bluetooth recognizes the Magic Trackpad but it says the device won't confirm the passkey. No passkey came with the Magic Trackpad and the option to not use a passkey still doesn't achieve connection with Windows. Suggestions/ comments, please.
    TIA,
    Picman

    UPDATE
    Just completed several lengthy sessions with Apple Tech Support (escalated to excellent Sr. Advisor). Bottom line is that there seems to be no answer to the problem of the Magic Trackpad not being able to maintain its pairing/connection with Windows (Vista in my case) or OS X (10.7 in my case) when switching Boot Camp partitions. In fact, when trying to re-pair it is necessary to remove the MTP batteries first. To pair at all with Windows requires the use of the Bluetooth passkey "0000" (not provided in MTP documentation). This achieves limited MTP/Windows functionality (cursor and "click" control only - with BC 3.1. BC 3.2 is supposed to provide more gestures, but I have not gotten there yet). Appears that when switching back to OS X, that passkey has remained with the MTP and is not what OS X is looking for, so it fails the connection. Removing/replacing the batteries probably dumps the passkey and allows the OS X connection. The Sr. Advisor says he sees this issue often (including with Windows 7) in their internal chat rooms, but no solution. He will be referring it to the engineers and will let me know the outcome. Meantime, assuming I keep the MTP, I'll have to resign myself to using a wired mouse when going to Windows (not a huge inconvenience, since it's only for Quicken; but the issue is worse than "in-elegant" for Apple!
    I am satisfied that I have obtained the best possible help from Apple on this issue. If anybody has more, please reply.
    Thanks,
    picman

  • Making a DVD in IDVD with a project from FCPx

       I've tried a number of things but have not been successful.
       The first time I hit the "Share" button, I selected the "Export File" option. At the next dialog box just took all the default settings. The result was a very large SD file that didn't look too good in IDVD. It wasn't as sharp as it should be and appeared to be "jittering" during fast movements. I've tried different settings in the dialog box, "Settings" page, but with no success. The options are not explained in the on-line manual, or I haven't been able to find the explanation. I've tried setting the "Format" option to computer, "Codex" to H.264 Better Quality, Resolution to 640x480, but the background task that the computer performs doesn't seem to get above 9% (I let it render all night). I have about 96g on the hard drive. The flie size is only 1.8g. I've also tried re-booting the computer and FCPx.
       Does anyone have suggestions? Is there a place where I can get an explanation of all of the option in the "Sharing/Settings" dialog box (Codex, Format, etc)?

    Navcat48 wrote:

    Are you saying that if I have a project with HD video, I do not need to use the DV codec in order to be compatable with IDVD?
    Tom Wolsky said you don't need to use DV and (of course) he's right.
    In my original reply I said use DV since that's what you shot.
    If you had shot some HD format and had "optimized" the clips to Pro Res, iDVD would be happy with that too. And so forth.
    I also said I didn't know the answer to your chapter marker question (which I do understand). And I can't test until later.

  • How can I install Windows 7 with Boot Camp from a Usb memory stick?

    What exactly do I need to do to the memory stick?

    Depends on the game. Most programs have no problem installing on an external drive.
    Of course depending on the game, performance may or may not be an issue. A crossword puzzle game will perform better than a real time fast action game running from an external drive.
    2.5, 3.5, 5400rpm, 7200rpm, SSD drives come as internal or external drives. The external frives have an enclosure to hold the drives. Otherwise they are the same. You can buy empty enclosures into which you would put your drive, if you have an internal drive you want to use as an external drive.

  • Importing into Address Book with Custom Fields from a Text File.

    Hello
    I'm a teacher and like to create contacts for my students. The information that I want in each contact besides their name, email address and phone number are their
    student id's, semester enrolled, class number and class title. For these four fields I create a "Custom" field with the appropriate names: "ID", "Term", "Course" and "Class" respectively.
    All this information I can download from the school's server in a CSV file.
    To import the information into Address Book, I choose "File -> Import -> Text File" and then select the CSV file that I downloaded. The import utility opens up correctly showing all the fields I would like to import, however, many of the fields are marked as "Do not import." When I click on that term to select my Custom fields, they do not show up. Is this a bug or "feature" of the Address Book? It seems to me that if you are allowed to create useful custom fields, you should be able to import data into them as well.
    If I'm just ignorant of how to do this, I would appreciate some help. If there is no way to currently do this efficiently, it would be nice to have this feature added to the Address book in the near future.
    Thanks for your consideration,
    Gary

    Thanks for posting your question and the reply from rojok...
    I'm a teacher as well - in Entourage I was able to just copy a column of email addresses (say from an Excel spreadsheet, downloaded from the school's server here at U MD) and then create a group and simply paste that list into the group. Address Book makes you do the extra step of importing all the addresses first. (Note: Your last imported list of contacts in this manner shows up as "Last Import" in the groups lists column to the left in Address Book - so to add contacts to a Group there, you select that Last Import group, click once in that list column one contact, say, then select all of the list - then Command + A, for select all - then drag them all to your group you've made - i.e. "MySpringClassList"). This is NOT very intuitive I might add and incredibly cumbersome of a process.
    To get around the customizable info I needed to import... I just chose options that I don't regularly use for those things I needed to import - i.e. student I.D., these I placed under "ICQ Other" - that way they're imported at least.
    Good luck,
    Andrew
