Making a brochure 508 compatible

Hi,
I am working on making a 2 page brochure 508 accessible in Acrobat 11 and logically the back of the brochure should be last to be read. However, since that paragraph is part of page one, I can't figure out a way to move it to page to. Any ideas?

Making PC and Mac compatible CD

I have 8 Captivate 3 lessons that I want to put on a CD. The
CD needs to run on both Mac and PC. At the end of each lesson I
have a link to go to the next lesson.
I have been able to get a version working with .exe files,
but don't know how to get that to function on a Mac. (Captivate 3
doesn't seem to have an option to make a Mac executable file)
When I try making .swf and .html versions, the link at the
end of each movie, that is supposed to advance users to the next
lesson, won't work.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm at the end of my rope on

You can make the Mac/PC compatible CDs with Toast, do a
Google search for creating a Hybrid CD with Toast.
As far as moving from one SWF file to another, and using a
single file to launch your multiple swf files. Consider using Jesse
Warden's Captivate Player. here:

Making a .Html file compatible with a .Css file

Hey. After shortening everything that I found possible I am back and have found that my header.html file is incompatible with the stylesheet 'common-style'. I need these two files to be compatible to be able to merge the header with my other files. If you find these files to be difficult to edit because of the sheer length I would appreciate some help on how to make the files even more shorter (While maintaining compatibility). Thanks for the help.

Hey, After Nancy O. Told me to shorten and change my coding to make everything easier to read/solve. I am back asking about the same problem I had before this being that my header.html file is incompatible with the style sheet 'common-style.css'. I would appreciate some help with making the necessary changes which are required to merge the two files.
IF you are still having the same problem as Nancy O. did earlier I need some more help with making 'everything shorter' as sometimes if I attempt to make the stylesheet shorter by changing a few lines of coding the file will no longer work properly.

Making AS3 code backward compatible to Flash 8?

So I made a slideshow swf in AS3 only to later find out it needs to be compatible with Flash 8...and in my estimation AS3 cannot publish back to a Flash 8 swf without it being AS2...is there anyway I can do this without rewriting the code? I'm fairly new to AS, starting with 3 - so I really don't have any AS2 knowledge. Any help is always greatly appreciated.

If the file needs to be compatible with Flash 8, then you need to first do the conversion to AS2, then you need to save the file as a Flash 8 file, which you'll need Flash CS3 to do. So if you're working with CS4, first you need to save the file as a CS3 file, then you need to have CS3 to be able to save it to Flash 8.

Making a Pages document compatible with Word and Full-screen view

Hi there! I would like to know if it is necessary to have Microsoft Office installed on my computer in order to be able to save a Pages document as "Microsoft Word" compatible. As of now, when I select the "Save As" option, I'm only able to save my document as a iWork 06 and 05 file. Also, I've noticed that on the video tutorials online, there is a "full-screen" mode and I was wondering if it was available on iWork 08, or if it is only for iWork 09. No, you don't need Office installed. That's the whole idea. Go to File > Export & choose Word (or text, rtf or pdf). The option to "save as" Word has been added in Pages 4/iWork '09 as well as in export.

Welcome to Apple's Discussions clk3190. Pages is part of a software suite called iWork 09. It consists of three different apps and must be purchased from your local Apple Store or online from the Apple Store web site. It's $79.00 and comes with Numbers and Keynote.

Making a plugin backward compatible

I have developed a plugin using java 1.5. It is a set of preference pages with lot of UIs. I am using SWT and preference store extensively. My client wants me to make it compatible with java 1.4 . How can I do this. What all changes will be required to be made.

They can be two types of changes:
1) Remove all language extensions introduced in 1.5, like generics, for-each loops etc.
You can compile it with 1.4 compatibility. That way, you get compiler errors for everything that is not compatible with 1.4 syntactic and semantic wise. Calling javac directly would then look like this:
javac -source 1.4 [FILES]2) Compile it with an 1.4 compiler to see if you're using 1.5 specific classes and methods. In every Java version, new ones are added, and you might use some of them. You cannot check this with step 1, you really have to use a 1.4 compiler.
3) If you're through the previous steps, make sure you test your plugin thoroughly just to make sure nothing got broken

Making our little utility compatible with Windows 8?

I'm the admin for a community website called rFactorcentral. To help support our site, we offer a service called the '1 click install' which allows our users to easily install 'modifications' to a simulator. This 1 click process requires a utility which was
developed a few years before Windows 8 was released.
Unfortunately, it appears this utility crashes in Windows 8, despite having tried everything. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make our utility work within Windows 8.

This utility would also experience a similar crash in Windows 7 64bit if this patch was missing:

Maybe it's too good to be true. When we posted in another thread for closure, we received this reply from user PA Bear:

Unfortunately, we are still on Windows 7, so Windows 8 is a bit unknown to us. Can anyone with a version of Windows 8 upgrade to Win8.1, for free? Is it like a service pack for authenticated machines or is it a totally separate version of Windows users would
have to purchase? We are hoping any user with any updated version of Windows 8 should be able to use our software. Thanks for any light you can shed on this aspect, very much appreciated.

Making my sisters pc compatible ipod touch mac compatible

So i rebooted it and tried to strip it down to how she got it out of the box. but now the screen is black with an icon that tells u to connect with itunes and i am. how do i convert this pc ipod touch to read on a mac?

You don't. Ipod touch is not formatted for either pc or Mac. You do not need to do anything but plug it in and sync.
Can you not restore the ipod?

Making spry tags xhtml compatible

U can also make all spry Unobtrusive using SpryDOMutils.js
( use onload listener to add spry tags to it)

Creating a CompactRIO compatible dll using Borland

I am trying to get a dll running on a CompactRIO 9004 using Labview8.5 developer's suite. The dll works fine when I run the VI on Windows, but when I copy the vi (called host.vi) to the CRIO target and try to run it I get the following message in the deployment status box:

LabVIEW: Failed to load shared library e.dll:getaddress:C on RT target device.
Having read some other posts on the forum, I am working from a folder called ni-rt\startup to mimic the CRIO's directory structure when configuring the call library function node and the dll is called e.dll to be certain of being filename compatible and the function being called is 'getaddress'. The dllclone.vi is a vi that performs exactly the same operation as the dll, to get an idea of speed difference. Jag1 is the name of the CRIO.
I have run 'DLL Checker 8.2.exe' and it gives two bad imports: one in kernel32.dll (GlobalMemoryStatus) and one in user32.dll (EnumThreadWindows). I am using Borland Builder 5 as the compiler and even running this from the command line pointing explicitly at the lib files in 'cintools' and making the dll 386 compatible gives this result. Would changing to MSVC++ make a difference?
I have been running the CompactRIO successfully up till now. Can anyone help with this?

Hello Tom, thanks for the reply.
I haven't tried re-installing - my other apps still work on it, so I don't think it's broken. We only have the one CRIO at the minute - I need to get this problem fixed before we go buying any more! I haven't tried any other dlls yet. As you will see, the one I am using is almost as simple as a dll can get and the application I am running is to test the loading/calling time of the dll and to experiment with passing structures. I've attached the full directory of the project but there are not many files. The dll was originally called extractor, but after building this I've tried renaming it as e.dll as I saw the message in another post about long filenames, though I understand this is an old problem and not an issue any more.

Can anyone tell me how to fix that?
I'm making a document 508 compliant using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and everything runs smoohtly, except it won't become compliant, because of this message in the summery report.

When you have the Accessibility Full Check dialog open & have selected the Section 508 checking option you'll observe the (a) through (p).
These correspond the paragraphs in 1194.22 (which, in turn, have a correlation to WCAG 1.0).
What needs manual verification will depend on which paragraph the comment is associated with.

In all cases (c) will have "Needs manual verification by user".
For (c), the requirement is that all information conveyed with color is also available without color.
Only a "warm body" can do this; hence, "Needs manual verification...".

An additional observation — A "pass" from Full Checker (using both "Adobe PDF" & "Section 508..." does not mean you've an Accessible PDF (S508 compliant &/or usable). One example would be the Scope of table header cells (Row | Column | Both | None) and Table Summary. Neither are evaluated.
You'll have to provide the appropriate value for Scope and provide the text for the Table Summary.
After using Full Checker you will need to "walk" the structure tree in the Tags panel (with the Highlight option selected) to look for possible issues.
Are any lists present properly tagged?
Are Headings properly used?
Do the various chunks of content have the correct PDF Tag?
Tags inappropriately used can really goober the PDF.
As always, proper mastering in the authoring file results in minimizing remediation activity with Acrobat Pro in the requisite post-processing.

Change 'Elegant Brochure' background colour

Hi there,
Making a brochure for our wedding (using the option under brochure of 'Elegant Brochure') to go along with the invites. Is there any way we can change the brown background colour to match our wedding's black, red and white theme colour while keeping the pattern in the original colour scheme? Basically just want to change the brown background to a light red.

Click on the panel. Note the little Xs? That means it’s locked. In the Arrange menu choose unlock. Because the panel is a JPEG instead of a shape, bring up the Adjust Image pane and use the various sliders to produce the color you want. It might be a good idea to Lock them again after you change the color.

Catalog creating software?

Ok, I am looking for a software product that does a few things. 1) It MUST be compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.8. 2) It will allow me to create a catalog for retail merchandise in a relatively 'user friendly' manner. 3) It needs to be able to be saved as an e-file, so that it can be sent to clients in an electronic format and maintain the catalog formatting regardless if they are using a mac or a pc. The only example of this I can think of is a pdf file where everyone uses the reader to open things and the formatting stays the same. 4) it must also be able to be sent out to a print shop to be able to communicate with the printers computers without formatting issues so that a hard copy can be generated. And Lastly, 5) we are a very small home-based business so this needs to be as cost effective as possible.
So this is your mission, should you choose to accept it.....no, just kidding. But any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch, Jenny

honestly: Pay a graphic designer to do it for you. If its done wrong it can cost you a LOT more money.
You could make a PDF with InDesign that would satisfy all of your requirements but number 2. Grant is 100% correct on this one.
If you fill in more details, and the details instill confidence in your abilities in a forum full of print and documentation pros (e.g. "Our catalog will be made by hand, with no automation to link to Excel, because we only have twenty products, and have experience with making print brochures in PageMaker some years back") then maybe we might be able to give you some more pointers.
Dani's recco of EasyCatalog is a good one. I really liked my experience with InData from Em Software, but it wasn't easy. I never used EasyCatalog myself, but I helped out on a translation project and got to look over the the shoulder of a designer that used it, and it's well-named. If you're already the kind of person who is good at pushing data-driven publishing projects around, but dislike writing bits of code to duct-tape stuff together, then EasyCatalog is what you're looking for.
If you're not that person, then you want to hire the person that is.
