Making a call with voice activation

I have been using a Palm for 5 or 6 years that has allowed me to make calls by either naming the individual (voice command) or saying the numbers. It is invaluable (and much safer) while driving. Does either the iPhone or any Third Party software support this capability?

We can't even have the phone in our hands while driving in Québec. I currently have a Blackberry pearl and wanted to switch to the Iphone but without voice activation calls I won't... I only have to push on the main button on my bluetooth headset and tell my contact to have the call placed. Does this apps allow for some "automation" like when I get in the car I activate it and then I don't need to push any buttons on the phone ?

It's an issue with hundreds of phones. Some claim it's software related, some hardware, some say it's a mixture of both.
Some people have had temporary success with quitting the Phone.app / restoring as a new phone / restoring from an iCloud backup / disabling Siri / toggling speakerphone on & off...
Unfortunately all of the above only been temporary, with the problem recurring again after a few calls, or a few days etc.
So far the only solution that seems permanent has been to replace the phone. But even so, it's the luck of the draw to recieve a functional phone, and not another faulty one.
I'm completely annoyed as there is no Apple Store near me...... and Apple haven't even acknowledged the issue, despite the above thread being 34 pages long, as of writing.

Suri conflict with voice activation

Suri and Voice Activation - I have discovered an issue when using a bluetooth headset, when activating voice control via the bluetooth to call someone, if Suri is on the call cannot be completed. There seems to be a conflict between Suri and Voice activation from bluetooth.

Well, I have never come across this issue before, but it sounds like a quality of service issue and not really a port issue of any sort so I doubt opening any type of port will fix anything. If your ONT allows it, try bypassing our router with the linksys and see if the problem is fixed. Just want to verify it is the actiontech router causing the issue...

Making LDAP calls to update Active directory attributes

Hi,
I see a lot of postings about authenticating using LDAP, Ibut I am trying to make LDAP calls to update Active directory attributes
How can I do this from my BPEL process ? My input xml file will have a list of users whose attributes need to be updated.
I need to query by making LDAP calls and update as needed.
I am a novice to a step by step guidance will be very helpful.

This is really an AD question. Basically the easist way is to expose a web service to do this then BPEL calls that web service. I think later versions of AD do this out of the box.
Otherwise there are many examples on Google using differnt technology.

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage. There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

Making a call with the iphone headphones

I know that you can answer calls through your headphones that came with the iphone but is it possible to make a call through it using the microphone and saying a command to call someone?

What I meant was while Im listening to my ipod on my iphone, is it possible to use the button on the headset and make a voice call from my headphones? I know I can do voice calling from the phone itself but I was wondering if you could do it through your headphones like push the button and say call whoever in the microphone and it would do it.

Making a call with OVI Suite

With PC-Suite and a 6120c hooked via usb i could make a call from the contact list, and i could receive notifications about incoming call. I don't seem to find the same feature in Ovi Suite. It is just me or is it missing?

Yes, that rite. That feature is not there in Ovi Suite anymore... However it seems that PC Suite version 7.1.30.9 might support N8 device. I heard from one of my friends that even 7.1.51.0 the latest also works with their N8.

Can I get Siri to ask for confirmation, before making a call to someone?

Is it possible to get Siri to ask for confirmation before making a call, or delete the option completely of making a call with Siri, as I am right now avoiding using Siri completely, because it keeps calling up the wrong people, often making accidental transatlantic calls. Even when I am not even trying to make a call of any kind.

No. I got no answers. i have just stopped using a headset where I accidentally activated Siri often.
I just tested Siri again to see if the updates have helped, and with in 3 tests, it had made an transatlantic call while I was trying to do an email, so I guess not. If Apple could at least just program into it, that Siri should ask for confirmation, something like "Do you want me to call Andrew?

UC560 showing no dsp on FXO ports when making a call.

Hi Everyone,
We are having 2 customers who are facing this problem on 2 differenct model one is UC560 and another one is UC540.
This is happening with almost all the ports that when ever we are making a call the voice ports hangs showing no dsp and it hangs in that state until we
issue the shut & no shut the ports.
This is now becoming really annoying why this thing is happening repeatedly.
i have attached the configuration, show dsp-group all, show voice-call status and show voice port summary outputs.
Any help will be really appreciated.

There are texting apps that can be downloaded for texting to non iOS devices. I have no idea how well they work. I have never used one.

The closest that you can come to making a call with an iPad would be to use an app like Skype. You can't make a "normal" call on the iPad since it is not a phone.

Apple voice activated hardware

Recently a dear friend was paralyzed from the neck down in a swimming accident. He is 20 years old and will soon have to be moved many miles from home for treatment and rehab. He has many supportive friends that will not be able to travel to see him. I want to find out if Apple has any type of program to help the disabled with voice activated hardware. Just activated new Iphone 4 and the mike does not work when making a call. it does work with speaker phone and face time. Any known fixes?

My wife's iphone 4 also has your same no ring problem as does my iphone 5 just less often. I called her iphone 4 at home from where I work 20 miles away on my iphone 5. With her phone in 3G mode ONE call went through and 9 went to voice mail in 10 tries. This is a 10% sucess rate!! I also could listen in real time from the wired work phone and the wired home phone. She turned off 3G mode and it went to "O" mode at the top left of the screen after the ATT. In this mode it rang on the first ring tone 5 times out of 5 tries which is 100% of the time. I have learned that the calling party will hear up to 4 ring tones when placing a call on the ATT network. If the ring tone changes volume slightly before the 4th ring then and only then will the cell phone start to ring. If the ring tone does not change after the 4th ring you get voice mail. If the calling party does not leave a voice message there is never a missed call displayed on the iphone. If the calling party does leave a voice message a few minutes later the iphone dings for arriving voice mail but still no missed call indication.
This appears to be related to the time of day and the ATT tower that the receiving caller is using. Tried other towers and it works in 3G mode 10 times out of 10 tries. Apple replaced the first iphone 4 with a new phone, no improvement. ATT replaced the SIM card and no improvement. ATT so far is clue less. This has been going on every since we got the new iphones which is 4 months. The ATT web site also describes this same problem from several years ago. Has anyone got better information?
