Making a contact sheet into a photobook

Hello everyone,
I would like to use the aperture photo book service to create a contact sheet book. Something similar to the "print contact sheet" function, but instead have it made into a book.
Is it possible to create some kind of template where I can just drop all my images into the book and have all the pages automaticallly made with the filename below each thumbnail?

Maybe "print" your contact sheets to pdf, then import
those pdf's an make your book?
That's exactly what I would do. To Aperture, PDF files are just another image file format that can be imported and used as a master. All you would have to do, is to make a project and import all of your contact sheets into it. Then, just make a book of them.
When you make your contact sheets, set up a custom page size that matches the dimensions of the book you want to order.

I am having trouble making a "contact sheet"; one page that will display 2,4,6,8 or 12 images culled from my desktop file of images. The old Photoshop had a very easy system that allowed me to drop images into a pre-set contact sheet. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Contact Sheets into jpegs

Hi,
I managed to create the contact sheets in the print output section in LR, but I cannot find any way, or help topics on how to turn them into jpegs for outsource printing?
I have CS4, bridge lightroom etc, any help is very much appreciated.

Hi Kevin!
In the PRINT JOB panel change the Print To: from Printer to JPEG File and you will be able to do that.

Installing contact sheet into cs4?

hi i have found the contact sheet on my disk, i cant install it into cs4, it says it is the wrong type of document?
does anyone know how to get it in there?

You don't double click on it to install it, you have to manually copy the necesary files to the right location. You can find the installation instructions in Goodies\Optional plug-ins\OptionalPluginsReadMe.pdf. If you have problems installing it then check out some of the comments from this page:

How can I change the background color of a contact sheet?

I'm making my contact sheet just fine but it's on a white background, and I'd like to change it to a darker gray. This functionality existed in an earlier version of Bridge but I'm not seeing it now that contact sheet is now in Photoshop. Any ideas? Thanks!

Anyway in Photoshop’s Contact Sheet II just don’t check "Flatten All Layers" and you can then add the intended background to the resulting files.

Photoshop CC and Bridge CC - Creating a contact sheet.

I am really frustrated that the process has changed in making a contact sheet as a PDF. I'm trying to follow the instructions on Adobe Photoshop help with little success. Contact Sheet II is not a good option given you have to create multiple Photoshop files. Am I missing something? What happened to the "Output" option in Bridge? If you shoot 300 pictures you end up with 15 separate Photoshop files instead of 1 PDF file. How is this better for a contact sheet? My guess is there is a fix out there that I haven't found yet.
In part of the instructions online you are instructed to..."If the Output space is not listed, open Adobe Bridge Preferences (Ctrl + K on Windows or Command + K on Mac OS), select the Startup Scripts panel, and select Adobe Output Module." I went there but "Output Module" is not an option in the list.
I'm a high school Photography teacher who is learning the latest Photoshop software. Previously I worked in Photoshop CS4 and creating a contact sheet was very simple! My tech department is unable to help so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This new process is really cumbersome for the students. Thank you.

You have three options:
1 - c.pfaffenbichler's    idea of saving all open files after running CSII
2 - Use Contact Sheet X. It has a lot of options for saving sheets: ps-scripts - Browse /ContactSheetX/v2.1 at SourceForge.net
     CSX, for the most part, has a lot more features than CSII. Also, I wrote both so I speak from experience.
3 - Modify CSII to save the sheets. There is legacy code from CSX in CSII for saving files. It should work if you make the following changes:
     a. change the line
          self.saveSheet = false;
     to
          self.saveSheet = true;
     b. change   self.outputFolder to the folder where you want the sheet to be saved.
     c. in the method ContactSheetII.prototype.saveDocument comment out or delete this line:
         Error.rutimeError(9500, ZStrings.UnknownInternalError);
     This function will also require other mods (e.g. getSaveOpts is not defined and should be replaced with code to create save options
     for whatever file type you want to save your sheets as).
If you're not a scripter, options 1 or 2 are probably your best choices.

How do I make a Contact Sheet with CS5.1?

I'm having a problem making a Contact Sheet. Running Mac 10.7.5, CS 5.1. I downloaded the Plug Ins from the Adobe site and installed them. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4963. But when I'm in Bridge and select Tools > Photoshop > Contact Sheet II, I get this message:

Contact Sheet Creation: Super slow!

Im making a contact sheet that's 16 pgs long.
It's taking a half an hour to save it as a PDF.
Unacceptable!
Is this as good as it gets?

Ok, Im using a dual processor G5, OSX, over a super fast network.
Shots are RAW from a Canon 5D. 12.3 megapixel.
Contact sheet is 9 up on a page.
Im telling LR to sharpen the page image when it creates the page.
And Im saving the page to a PDF in the print dialog menu.
My PDF was actually 24 pages.
Took forEVER!
Makes me have serious dobts about using this app in a professional capacity.
The fact that LR doesnt natively have a function to save out to a contact sheet is retarded.
(As opposed to only printing it out. What good is a contact sheet if you cant save it?)

Saving Contact Sheets

So I tried making a contact sheet in LR.
Doesnt work like in Bridge.
In fact it didnt work at all.
Said it was printing it.
Didnt print.
I want to create and save a contact sheet like in Bridge/Photoshop.

Thomas, printing has different set up/methods than Bridge. Follow the manual carefully and read the posts here about printing. Hopefully you can find your way around it. It is a bit like driving on the other side of the road, different but doable!
To save the only option at the moment that I know of is to save as PDF whch you can open in Photoshop.
If you could provide more information such as your system, OS and printer along with your procedure we can provide more assistance.

Tagging Contact Sheets With Keywords

I have 81 contact sheets, each containing 250 small images. Is there a way to use Bridge to tag the individual thumbnail images with keywords for later reference?
And, for that matter, can someone suggest a way to break up the thumbnails into individual images?

Why would you want to make a contact sheet of individual thumbnails and then try to figure out a way to break up the contact sheet into individual thumbnails?
Each contact sheet is made from a video file. Each sheet contains stills from a video file, one pic for every five seconds.
I am just trying to come up with a way to log all the visuals in a group of 81 video files. I'd like to be able to search for, say, all of the pictures of a building, or the sky, or a teakettle, or someone hugging, or the guy named Dom, and so on.

Why did Adobe get rid of making nice neat PDF contact sheets directly in Bridge??

I know there is an output module, but it is not really any help! It still uses photoshop to create multiple seperate PSD files and takes forever! It is VERY important at my job to make contact sheets, we need them to go through hundreds of pictures. Why can't you just bring back making it straight in Bridge? It was so much faster and convenient. I cannot afford to wait while Photoshop generates 50 pages of 8 thumbnails for me as it ties up my computer, not to mention the steps to convert those files into one nice pdf. It is incredibly frustrating! Just makes no sense Adobe would do this??

Not sure I understand your problem but I guess you have Bridge CC and now you don't have the option to use the Adobe Output Module? The output module you are talking about is the old contact sheet script that indeed produces loose sheets (PSD, but also jpeg) and can take a while depending on your settings.
But you still have the option to install the Output Module for Bridge CC again, but you have to do it yourself, it can be downloaded via this link but you should first read the instructions carefully because it needs some attention. With the Output module you can use Bridge again to create PDF documents with many pages and custom lay out.:

Program error when Making Contact Sheet from Bridge

I had been making contact sheet from the bridge using CS3 with no problem till a week ago when after completing the contact sheet, I get an error message saying that there was a program error, and photoshop locks up. I have to force quit. I am using a G5 dual 2.5 and 2 Gigs of RAM. I tried reinstalling without any luck.
Any ideas?

Does it work in a new User Account?
Have you tried cleaning-out your Caches (use Cocktail); or trashing Prefs.?
