Making a database in Java

would making a database in Java be hard especially if I wanted to incorporate SQL into the data base?

in such a way where i can use arrays to store information and then sort through the arrays at a latter time by use of a search method to find and pull specific information? or would i even need a data base for this type of project? That's very vague, and arrays really have nothing to do with it. You will define classes in Java, such as, say, Student, Course, Instructor, Classroom, etc. A given application or feature will use some or all of those classes. If an application needs to be able to do things like "print the class list for a given student," and "find the classrooms available for a particular course," and a dozen others, then, yes, you probably want a database to manage the relationships, searching, filtering, and all the stuff that a DB is made for. If, on the other hand, it's just a simple app that displays a few things, lets you select something, and maybe retrieves a few simple objects by fixed keys like name or ID, then a DB is probably overkill.the relationship is what i want to do, so now i wonder - how do you create an application in java to interact with a database?

  • How to Cache Data  from database for java mapping ?

    Hi
I have a scenario where  i have to dynamically query  a huge table in some other database from java mapping code.
Therefore instead of making a new Database trip everytime is there a mechanism by which i can cache the entire table contents into XI first and then use this cache for looking up data through my java mapping.
Any other alternative also welcome which would give best performance.
    Please Suggest
    regards
    Nilesh Taunk.

    Hi Nilesh,
I am not sure if you can actually cache the table in XI. You will have to look up directly from your Database everytime your mapping excecutes.
To perform DB lookup during mapping very efficiently, I would suggest that you take a look at this blog,
    /people/siva.maranani/blog/2005/08/23/lookup146s-in-xi-made-simpler
Also, instead of doing the DB look up in mapping, you can also use your JDBC adapter as a sender and collect the information you want from your DB,
If you are using your JDBC as a sender, then your JDBC will poll over your database and select the rows that satisfy your Select Query. Also, there is another field in your JDBC adapter that is very important and that is the Update satatement. Once your JDBC adapter executes your select query and selects rows from the database, you might not need those rows to be selected again. In this csse, you can use the Update statement to update the database.

The choice between a JDBC sender adapter , and the DB lookup will have to be on the basis of your requirements.

I have not a clue about FoxPro, but the db then is FoxPro and not Unix. The better question would be "How do I connect to FoxPro DB running on Unix with JDBC?".
My answer to that would be, search the Internet for a JDBC driver.

  • Call EJB From Oracle Stored proc or Database loaded Java?

Are there any examples of calling an EJB, residing in the OC4J on a machine separate from the DB server,
from an Oracle PL/SQL stored proc.
The Stored proc can call java loaded into the DB. That java makes the intial bean context. Or another way if suggested.
The reason is that I need to use some drivers that I have so far been unable to load directly into the DB using
loadjava util. I plan on using the driver in the EJB, located on a different machine. But I'd like so know if its possible to
make the IntialContext call to the EJB container from PL/SQL. Are the OC4J drivers loadable to be
able to be called from a database loaded java class? ( I might be a little off on my terminology)
    Bob
    [email protected]

    Hi Bob,
Your question has been previously asked on this forum many times already.
You can probably find the relevant postings by doing a search of the
    forum archives.
To summarize those posts, as I understand it, the latest version of OC4J
    (version 9.0.3) contains a "oc4jclient.jar" file (I think that's the name
of the file), that can be loaded into the Oracle database (using the
"loadjava" utility), and which allows a java stored procedure to invoke
methods on an EJB residing in OC4J.
Please note that I have not tried any of the above -- I am only summarizing
for you what has already been posted. And like I said before, a search
of the forum archives will probably give you more details.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    hai friends,
i'm developing an application. in that i need to back up and restore the database. i'm using mysql.
in that i used a code to back up the db.. its working perfectly and the dump file is created perfectly..
but while trying to restore the dump file nothing is happening...
can anyone provide me a sample code to restore the dump to database using java code...
    thanks in advance...

The first, biggest mistake you made in the code is that you didn't read standard output and error from the process, and/or you're ignoring exceptions. Because if you did, you would have read error messages that would have given you a clue what's wrong. (either that, or you ignored the clues, or didn't understand them and failed to tell us what the error messages are)
The second mistake is that you invoked exec with the call that takes a single string, when that string includes whitespace not used as delimiters.
The third mistake was that you used a terrible subject line for your post. Your problem is that you're having trouble with Runtime.exec. The fact that it's about mysql isn't relevent.
The fourth mistake is that you didn't mention Runtime.exec at all until pushed. You should provide these details. When you try to self-diagnose something that you don't understand, and then hide information, you're just wasting everybody's time, including your won.
The fifth mistake is that you're using poor spelling.
The sixth mistake is that you still haven't said why you're doing this in Java.

I asked a similar question once and the answer I got was - Don't.
Instead, store the images on a drive somewhere and store the path in the database.

  • Problem with making a database link.

    Hello All
I got a problem with making a database link.
    When I execute this query
    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK DBNAME
CONNECT TO database IDENTIFIED BY name
    USING 'DBNAME.europe.company.com';
I am using other names because its private information
But when I look at the table dba_db_links I see this
    OWNER | DB_LINK | USERNAME |HOST
    PUBLIC| DBNAME.europe.company.com| name| DBNAME.europe.company.com
So the DB_Link name is changed. And this causes a problem with my asp website. I get the fault message
ORA-02085: database link DBNAME.europe.company.com connects to DBNAME
Cause: a database link connected to a database with a different name. The connection is rejected.
The global_names = true and I prefer to keep it that way.
So does anyone knows what is wrong about my Query or how I can change the DB_Link name.
    Thanks for the support,
    Remco

    Thanks for the help Mohit
But thats whats I was doing.
The query in the first post is the same as what you are posting.
But by an (for me) unknown reason the database converts DBNAME to DBNAME.europe.company.com

  • How to create a oracle database by java code?

how to create a oracle database by java code?
please give some ways then that way's code

I'm not sure what you mean with "database". Do you mean an Oracle instance or an Oracle user/schema (probably the latter, because that's the equivalent to a MS SQL Database).
Creating an instance is definitely not possible from within Java. To create a new user this should be possible, as this can be done with SQL:
    GRANT connect,resource TO <newuser> IDENTIFIED BY <password>;
I'm always cautious with questions like this. In 90% of the cases there is something wrong with the initial design. Creating a database shouldn't be something the application is doing.

  • Create new oracle database with JAVA

    Hi!
I would appreciated it if you could help me to solve a problem that i have.
I am trying to create a new oracle database by a JAVA 1.4.2 application. I am using the scripts that Oracle 10.g supplies during the creation of a new database from the server (Generate Database Creation Scripts) with the appropriate changes, generated by a java application. Unfortunately, i am unable to connect with the database and the listener. Is there any other way to create a new database by java and how can i solve my current problem with the oracle scripts?
    Thank you.

    A) To create a new schema, you need to be connected as a user that has create schema privilege, or as tyhe user who is to own the schema (remembering that the user has appropriate create privs, as seen in the GRANT command in the SQL Reference manual). Not an issue at all, I think, if you coordinate this with your DBA. Discussed very well in the Administrator's manual.
    B) Alternately, you could create a complete copy of the schema, including all desired objects (tables, views, etc.) in a separate database and simply export the user and schema. Then simply invoke the OS-based import command (imp) to load that entire thing into the target database.
    C) To create a new database, there are 3 simple steps ...
    1) create the appropriate initialization parameter file
the init{sid}.ora file should be placed in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs or %ORACLE_HOME%\database directory. (I recommend you do not attempt to create the spfile.) Of critical interest will be setting the block size information, the control file parameters, and using the appropriate memory management parameters, based on the version of the software you will be using to create the database instance.
    2) start an empty instance, pointing to the parameter file
This will be an OS specific call, and will require that you have the correct OS environment set up as well as access to the ORACLE_HOME which will provide the software that you will invoke. In *nix you will need to call the sqlplus command with sysdba provs and in Windows you will need to call oradim to initialize this as a service.
    3) run the SQL create database command
You might want to use the dbca to create a template of the create database command, or look in the SQL Reference manual for the variations on the command. Of critical interest will be initializing the redo logs as well as the system, sysaux (if needed), temp and undo tablespaces after which you can set up the regular tablespaces, users and schemas. I highly recommend that you have redundant copies of the control files on separate drives.
You may want to review the online Concepts manual and the Adminstration Guide for some of the specifics to your needs, but I think I've covered the basics.
Remember that ideally you will only have one database instantiated on any given server as the memory and CPU overhead of each instance is significant.
    Good luck.
