Making a DVD from iMovie - how do I do this?

I have a movie project in iMovie.  I want to burn a disk that will play in a DVD player.  How do I do this?

I have done lots of this.
Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

I am finding it hard to import a dvd from imovie to iweb can someone please help step by dtep instructions thank you so much

Are you saying that the Media Browser option of the Share menu is grayed out?
If so make sure you've selected the video and then try the menu.  Otherwise you'll need to inquire in the iMovie community as I don't do much with iMovie.

  • Making Data DVD from iMovie HD (5)

    HELP!!!
I need to make a data DVD of my iMovie project to send to a stock-footage company. Anybody know EXACTLY how to do this? I'm using Toast 7. Thanks for your help.--Porter

in your o.p. you said to make a data DVD of my iMovie project to send to a stock-footage company... my guess was, you need a "universal" standard/very little companies support "Mac only"... in the data-disk options of Toast, you can choose many formats, "Mac" too...
    reading your second post...
my guess is, you try to do a "data spanning" to continue on subsequent discs, correct...? use/read "Help" of Toast7...
... where is the Quicktime of my iMovie HD (5) project?
    wherever you've stored it
there's the socalled "ref.mov" within the project's file (that with a star); in iMHD, this file isn't a folder anymore, but a "package"; simply ctrl-click on it, choose from menu "show package content"... beware: any "fumble" of movie.pkg can distroy whole project.
    BUT!
as said, that is just a ref.mov; Toast can create a videoDisk (the ref.mov "collects" all need video+audio; a ref-mov is just an "alias"; it is just <500kB = not the video/movie itself!); but - to my knowledge - is not able to create a data-disk (=movie.dv) from a ref.mov
if you need a movie, you need to create one by export/share from within iM, choose Quicktime/Full Quality... huge files: 1h = ~13GB...

  • Making HD DVD from iMovie

    1. I have taken video footage in 1920 X 1080i.
    2. I've used iMovie 08 to this AVCHD (high-def tapeless) footage and converts it to Apple Intermediate Codec.
    3. I used quick time pro ,to convert it after downloading it.
    4. I burned a DVD
Is the finished DVD product High Def 1920 X 1080i quality or close?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

I am not sure how you are using quicktime pro, but you can open your movie in QT Player (or QuickTime Pro) and open the Inspector (Command-I) and see the dimensions of your project.
I assume you made a data DVD, because you need TOAST 10 to make a BluRay DVD to play on a BluRay Player. But you can play QuickTIme files on your computer.

  • Making a DVD from Imovie

how do I publish an Imovie to media browser in a higher quality than "large"?...the video camera used was 1080p

DVD is as Standard - SD-Video
BUT - Hollywood can invest in encoding programs for $$$$$ and if they didn't deliver any better than iDVD one might ask Why.
But the BIG factor here is - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - as non of them delivers interlaced video over to iDVD (any way I know of) but only every second line resulting in a severe quality loss.
You are far more better of with iMovie HD6 or any version of FinalCut as they deliver full interlaced video to iDVD so that it can do as much to it as possibly.
Yes You can (and I do) use Roxio Toast™ to burn BD-code to standard DVDs - resulting in a DVD that NEEDS a Blu-Ray player to be viewed - not even a standard Mac can play it (but funny enough Toast BD-player tool can)
Still if burned on BD-disks and via a BD-Burner - then no Mac can play it.
I use as PlayStation 3 to playback.

  • Making a DVD from iMovie 8

I have read some of the earlier posts and replies, so I think I know some of the answers to my question (and I'm not encouraged). I have made an hour long movie in iMovie 8 based on video taping I did for business using miniDV. I need to make a DVD of this movie in reasonable quality, with chapters, to distribute to clients to look at. I have iDVD on my laptop but no drive to burn a DVD. I have an external hard drive to store the movie and my wife has iDVD and the capability to burn a DVD on her desk top. I also have an older(6) version of iMovie on my hard drive. Can/should I import this movie onto that version and use it for better quality? Help!!! Thanks.

Why not just burn it to a disk image file (an option under FILE in iDVD) on you laptop? You can then play it with Apple's DVD Player application (double-click on the disk image file to mount it on your desktop). If everything is the way you want it, THEN use an external hard drive to transfer the disk image file to your wife's computer and use Apple's Disk Utility to burn the disk image file to writable media.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.

  • How do I burn a DVD from IMovie?

I have created a project in IMovie 08 and would like to save it to a DVD that can, in turn, be played on a computer or TV.  However, there is no obvious way to burn a DVD from IMovie.  How do I do this?

    Hi
You start by saying - I have created a project in IMovie 08 -
But then say that You don't have iDVD ?
If You got iMovie 08 then this was delivered with iDVD - so by finding this on hard disk or DVDs and then install it on the New Mac - DIRECTLY THEN - Update (do not try it first - will mess things up) by using Program-Up-date under Apple menu. to iDVD v. 7.1.2 - and all will be well.
Only brand new Macs delivered with iMovie'11 v. 9.0.4/6 - will be delivered without iDVD.

  • How to make DVD from iMovie

I'd like to make a DVD from iMovie. in the previous version you only had to go to SHARE & selct DVD, the genius's at Apple took that away in the new version

    Use it.

  • Making a DVD from iPhone Video

Lifelong Windows user here seeking some Mac expertise:)
I am in the process of making a DVD from Iphone home videos that can be played on any DVD player.
I see that Mac's video format is .mov which from what I can tell is not the same format needed to make DVD's that can be played on all DVD players. I already have the files saved on my MacBook Pro as mov. files can anyone tell me how to get them converted in order to have them play on a DVD player? Can iMovie do the conversion for you or do I need another program to convert the files and then process them into a movie in the iMovie program or even Adobe Premiere Elements 12 which I also have installed on this MacBook Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is great information to have. Thank You for your quick response. Following your response I did some more research on video converters and found that Handbrake which I already have installed on the MacBook converts video files but only in the output formats of MP4 and MKV which does not help my cause; however, while doing that research I came across a program known as iMedia Converter Deluxe for Mac from Skysoft which from what I can tell supports output .avi video formats. Do you have any experience / advice on iMedia or any other recommended video converter program that works well with Mac and is preferably "free"?

  • Burn a dvd from iMovie on brand new 2014 imac

I just became an imac user after 29 years of owning pc's. I record video for school functions and have always used ADOBE Premiere to produce and author dvd's. I made the jump to an imac after windows xp was no longer supported, adobe is going to cloud subscriptions and after hearing how much easier working with video was with an imac. Well.....you know what's coming....and why I took the time to jump into a forum: I figured out iMovie very quickly and transcoding to an mp4. I have a Superdrive because I was told it can read and burn dvd's and mayb even blue ray. But holy cow....is there truly no way to make a dvd from iMovie?! Really?! Or from that matter to burn a dvd from this imac? I have gone nearly blind reading through the communities and forums. I have made 3 dvd's that won't play in a Sony dvd player that plays everything I can throw at it except the dvd's from this imac. Good thing I still have my PC, maybe I should just get Windows 8 and bite the Adobe bullet. Any other suggestions? I am more saavy than the average user, which always heightens the frustration level when a simple task takes all day to reach no appropriate resolution. I don't need a lot of detail, just tell me where I made the wrong turn.
P.S. I just went to the "tags" to post this....and funny thing....there must be 50 dvd tags, but none even resembling dvd burning or dvd authoring. Is there somthing going on that I need to know about....with dvd burning on imacs or Apple in general?

    Hi Carolyn!
That iMovie user guide you linked to is the old one for iMovie HD (5 or 6)!
There isn't one for iMovie 10/11 but:
