Making a DVD from iPhone Video

Lifelong Windows user here seeking some Mac expertise:)
I am in the process of making a DVD from Iphone home videos that can be played on any DVD player.
I see that Mac's video format is .mov which from what I can tell is not the same format needed to make DVD's that can be played on all DVD players. I already have the files saved on my MacBook Pro as mov. files can anyone tell me how to get them converted in order to have them play on a DVD player? Can iMovie do the conversion for you or do I need another program to convert the files and then process them into a movie in the iMovie program or even Adobe Premiere Elements 12 which I also have installed on this MacBook Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is great information to have. Thank You for your quick response. Following your response I did some more research on video converters and found that Handbrake which I already have installed on the MacBook converts video files but only in the output formats of MP4 and MKV which does not help my cause; however, while doing that research I came across a program known as iMedia Converter Deluxe for Mac from Skysoft which from what I can tell supports output .avi video formats. Do you have any experience / advice on iMedia or any other recommended video converter program that works well with Mac and is preferably "free"?

  • Making a DVD from

I am making a DVD from final cut pro, it is about 1 hour 50 minutes. I am using idvd are there any suggestions on how or/if to compress this to make it fit on idvd. I thought I would try posting here first instead of the idvd board.
    thanks!

iDVD has a limited number of (commonly used) file formats it can deal with, and uses its own DVD video encoder to format and build the DVD. The iDVD help system describes the kinds of files it can accept.
You would use Compressor to encode the separate video and Dolby surround audio files for DVD Studio Pro projects, and iDVD does not accept those file types. If you need more control over your encoding, you should use FCP and Compressor with DVDSP.
The iDVD forums will have more on that topic.
That being said, I love using iDVD because of it's ease and simplicity. I use it to make quick DVDs of my Final Cut Pro projects. Just feed iDVD the right files and it works beautifully.

  • Creating a PAL DVD  from NTSC Video camcorder

Can the latest version of iMovie create a PAL DVD from NTSC Video camcorder? What are best practices and workflow to create a PAL DVD from NTSC sources.

iMovie doesn't create DVDs, iDVD does..
in iM's prefs, set Video to 30fps = NTSC
quit and relaunch to take changes in effect
in iDVD's prefs, set Video to 25fps = PAL
quit and relaunch to take changes in effect
when finished with editing in iM, Share to Mediabrowser
in iDVD, select a theme, grab movies from Mediabrowser
burned DVD will be PAL ..

  • Suggestions on making a DVD from AVCHD?

What would be the best way to get the best quality DVD from original Sony 1900x1080i AVCHD - M2ts files?
    Is it better to:-
Convert (or import) the initial files to AVI with another program and make the project with the AVI files in PE9 and share to DVD using PE9 (what other program?)
    or
Edit the original AVCHD files PE9  then
Share to DVD from the edited AVCHD using only PE9
             or
Share to a HD format file and use another program to reduce and burn the DVD (what other format and program)
             or
Share to some other format file and burn the DVD with another program (what other format and program?)
             or
Share to SD and use another program to burn the DVD (what other program?)
    or some other better alternative?
I would be interested in hearing others experiences or nasties they might have encountered doing this.
I supppose it gets down to what does the best job of downsizing the original HD.
Some (but not all) of the copies of the DVD may be played on good quality Blue Ray players that upscale to full HD so I want the best possible DVD.
Also it's my grandaughters wedding so I HAVE to make it good! It is likely to be played many years in the future on probably super players on wall sized screens when unfortunately I won't be around to see them!.
In case you think I'm mad, I will also be making Blue Ray copies as well so I will have to use a second option anyway but I would be prepared to make the project again in low def if this would be better.

I am not worried about speed or ease of editing or work flow but rather ending up with the  highest picture quality DVD with minimum artifacts and compression.
Are you sayng I will get better video quality using PE9 to pre-convert the HD to SD before editing, then burning the DVD from that as opposed to making the edit in original AVCHD and converting the final edited HD to SD and then burning the DVD?
I also wondered if another program that specialised in converting would be better to use rather than using PE9 which is primarily an editing program.
As an example PE9 does a bad job of resizing any AVCHD. Just a slight increase in size noticably degrades the resolution.

  • Making Playable DVD From Disc Image

A friend of mine has an iDVD project but his mac cannot burn dvds. So he gave me the file as a disc image. I dragged and dropped the disc image to the dvd and hit burn. It does not play as a dvd in a player or in frontrow on my mac. When I double click on it the disc image is on the dvd. Did I make a data dvd instead? How do I make a playable dvd from a disc image?
Also, is going the disc image route the easiest way to transfer an iMovie or iDVD project to another mac. I did it this way because my mac does not have some of the music or photos on it that are linked to the project file. In Garage Band you can save as archive when transferring a file to another mac and it saves all the loops, etc in the file. There must be something similar in iDVD.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Paul

So he gave me the file as a disc image. I dragged and dropped the disc image to the dvd and hit burn.
    Paul,
Video DVDs are written in the UDF format. That's why you must use Apple's Disk Utility to burn a disk image to writable media correctly.
In burning from the Finder, you have created a data DVD in Mac OS Extended format that will NOT play in set-top DVD players (as you have found out).

  • Making a DVD from Keynote

This should be a simple process, but I can't find out how to do it. (I get it to work after hours of trial and error, usually, but this time I'm stuck)
I make a Keynote show - beautiful photos, text, etc - but without the music since I've been told the best way to add the sound is to make a movie first and THEN use that to make the DVD.
I exported the Keynote presentation to Quicktime (iMovie wouldn't take the actual Keytime presentation), and then moved that to iMovie. But it won't let me move the clip below to actually make a movie and add sound.
And I tried moving the Quicktime presentation (of course no sound in this version, but the original has sound) directly to iDVD. It appears on the Media/Movie page but I can't figure where to go from there. Nothing happens.
Sigh. Any help would be appreciate.

This actually is an addendum to my own email since somehow half the message got dropped. Sorry.
Basically I've created a Keynote presentation (lovely photos, text, etc) with the intent of making a DVD to share with my mother who is bedridden.
(In the "olden days" I would just make a slide show in iPhoto, add sound, and burn. But I love whaat Keynote can do, it's just figuring out how to get THAT presentation to a DVD I can play in a regular DVD player.
I didn't include sound on the version I exported to Quicktime since I was told that the best way to make the DVD was to make a Movie first so I could better adjust the sound. So I exported the soundless one to Quicktime and then moved that to iMovie, but couldn't get it to let me move the clip below.
I also tried moving the Quicktime version directly to iDVD. It is there on the Media/Movie page, but I can't get anything to happen after that. (I could easily use the version of my Keynote presentation with sound, if it would let me,, but I understand there is a problem with that too....)
Again, any suggestions would be helpful.

  • Creating a DVD from camcorder video tape

    Hi all,
I am tasked with creating a DVD from some of my dads camcorder tapes. Can anyone provide a simple advice list. I assume that iDVD (which i have never used) will be the software to use?
Look forward to hearing from you helpful and intelligent people out there.
    From a complete simpleton.
    Kind regards,
    Alan

The easiest way (if you don't want to do any editing)
buy a dvd player/recorder, connect the video out of the camcorder to the dvd recorder input.

  • I need to know what software i need to burn a dvd from my videos

Is there software to burn dvd's from my videos to play on my blueray

If your BluRay player also plays SD video DVDs you will be fine if you use iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

If you want to burn BluRay DVDs you will need Roxio Toast.

  • Making a dvd from a powerpoint

I created a powerpoint presentation with sound for my daughters wedding. Is there a way to make a dvd from this presentation so it can be played on a dvd player over the television or do I need to redo the whole presentation? I am using a Powerbook G4 with OS 10.3.9.

    You have about 3 choices.
    1. Export a sequence of still images of your PPT presentation, and make a slideshow within DVDSP, iMovie ou Final Cut (Pro or Express).
    2. Open your PPT presentation in Keynote (another app made by Apple) and have it export a QT movie. (this way you could see the transition effects)
    3. Have your Powerbook hooked up to a VTR or video camera through the S-Video interface (mirror), and have the presentation recorded on tape. Then you would import the video from the tape through iMovie of FCP/FCE and have the video exported to DVDSP.
I hope this info will be of help.

  • Importing from iPhone video camera?

I'm about to start a an audio/video project and wanted to just put this out there for some advice.  3 Camera iPhone 4 shoot, 1 prerecorded audio track. Not planning on using the audio from the iphones.  I've never imported iPhone video into FCE. Any suggestions? Any know problems with this? I'm planning on doing it all in HD. Then syncing the video to the audio track. (The audio track is just an Mp3.) Will this just be super easy and straight forward? I've done this same thing with Canon Vixia HD cameras before and it was no problem. Does the iPhone present any particular issues?
    Thanks

Thanks Tom. (BTW, love your book!)
So, how do I convert these files? I've always just dragged things into the timeline before, then rendered them, but I don't want any funny business. Is there a specific way I should prepare these files before I bring them into the project? I'm always a bit confused by this and have had some bad experiences with projects that looked squashed or stretched.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Making a DVD from FCP X project

A few projects ago, I could render a movie for DVD from FCP X onto a DVD to burn.  Then, it would be working for hours and hours and never finish.. a day later, it wasn't finished.  Can't make one since.
What could be the problem? I s some part of the process too big for my hardware or software?  Can I change something to allow it to work again?
Any ideas?  Perhaps something is set wrong?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    What version are you running?
Do you get a Publishing Error -29?

  • HOW CAN I MAKE A DVD FROM MY VIDEOS AND PHOTOS?

I have videos and photos in iphoto and want to make a presentation that will include photos intersperced with video. Is that possible? If so please advise. Not a high-tech kind of person

I've never done it with videos on iPhoto, so I'm not sure. You can certainly do it in iMovie.
Do you want it to play on a DVD player? If so, you'll need a DVD authoring program like iDVD. Older Macs shipped with iDVD, likely on a separate iLife '11 disk. Recently, Apple stopped bundling iDVD. If you have iDVD, once you finish the slideshow in either iPhoto or iMovie, Share it to iDVD. From there, you can pick a theme and add menus and such.

  • Missing audio from iPhone videos?

Some videos on my iphone are missing the audio. They used to have audio, but now when I play them back they are silent. The backup copies in iPhoto also have no sound. The videos are about 2 months old. I have done the update to IOS 7 recently, however the copies in iPhoto were done prior to this and also have no audio, so I doubt its an update thing. Is there anyway to retrieve the audio, and what would make random videos on my phone lose the audio?

    Hello SebastianTroen,
It sounds like you are seeing these performance issues persist between 2 different versions of the Apple TV. I would recommend that you use these troubleshooting steps from the following article, as it should help you resolve the issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215
Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your iOS device, Apple TV or AirPort Express.
    Try the following suggestions:
Ensure that other devices are not trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If possible, try to locate your Wi-Fi router in the same room as your iOS device and Apple TV.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
If the Wi-Fi router has an external antenna, check to see that is it connected properly and in good condition.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
