Making a DVD play when inserted without a menu?

How can I make a DVD that when inserted just begins playing video? I tried just adding the video, though I am unable to delete the menu and theme.
Thanks.

Hi
You can do it in two ways:
a. Drop Your movie icon into the auto-play box in iDVD (When You select it to show
a block-diagram with boxes). Auto-play box is the upper left most box.
Now it will: Auto start - BUT it ends on a menu.
• You can set - looping - then it will re-start after reaching end
• Or You can modify a menu: Take a silent one eg Brushed Metal and the add a
black .jpg photo to hid the rest. (Or a photo with THE END)
*alt b.*
In iMovie if Your movie is less than 60min (Don't try LP-mode on Camera)
• Copy back to a miniDV tape in Camera (There are 90 minutes ones)
• Close iMovie and start iDVD
• Select OneStep DVD
Now iDVD will copy Your tape to a DVD - Without any theme/menu

  • Creating dvd to auto play when inserted

I have a movie reel that i made and saved on my computer but when i recorded it to DVD it wouldn't play automatically when inserted in the computer like a normal DVD does. Does anyone know how I can get this function to work?
    Thanks!

    Diana, welcome to the discussions.
Normally this is not an issue, but it can occur for a variety of reasons.
The first thing I would try is shut your computer clear off.
After a minute or so, restart your computer and put your DVD in and don't touch anything.
Your DVD Player should mount automatically, and the DVD should start playing.
If not, my guess is you have several video editing, or some related video files that a re stored on your computer in cache files and other places that need to be cleaned out, using some free 3 rd party software.
Here is another real good link for you.

  • When i tried to hook my macbook pro up to a projector to show a dvd, the screen on the computer and projector screen went black as if it were trying to connect. yet it didn't show up. The dvd played when it wasn't connected to the projector. any ideas?

When I tried to hook up my macbook pro to a projector and play a dvd, the dvd wouldn't work. I would only get an error message. The dvd worked when it wasn't connected to the projector but doesn't work when it's connected. It just shows a blank screen as if it's trying to connect. Also, the connection works when I don't play the dvd. Any ideas?

    Hey there lynmrigg,
It sounds like have an HDMI to VGA adapter connecting your MacBook Pro and your projector but the screen on your computer goes black and no image appears on the projector. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve or isolate the issue here, named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Start dvd play w/o menu

Need to know how to start a burned dvd playing when inserted in dvd player. Probably simple but I've never done it before...

Apple says use One-Step on File menu but I don't have that in my file menu.
If you are using iDVD 4 or earlier, you don't have that option.
The map view (selected by a button that looks like a tree) has a box on the left. Drag an drop your mov file into that box.

  • DVD without a Menu?

Can iDVD be used to make a DVD without a menu? I was unable to delete the menu. I dragged the video to the drop zone that indicates it will play when inserted, though afterwards it is going to go back to the menu.

How to create a DVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme"by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    3. Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just un-check the appropriate check box. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software
    4. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

Click the map button at the bottom of the main iDVD screen. Then drag your slide show into the "Auto-play" box at the top of the DVD menu.

  • Immediate play when DVD is inserted

I'm making my first ever FC DVD and the client wants it to just start as soon at it's inserted and not have to go through any menus or anything. Any help?
Also, in reading the Compressor forums I read that dvd's made in DVD Studio Pro seem to be cleaner than those made in Compressor. I own both and am sure open to any advice as to which way I ought to go with this. It's only about a 6 minute project.
    Thanks a bunch.

Compressor is just a format conversion program. It doesn't make DVDs. DVDSP and Compressor use the same compression, but you have more control with Compressor. Here's a good step by step for basic standard def DVDs.
Export your finished FCP sequence to your media drive: FILE/EXPORT/QUICKTIME MOVIE. Make sure that Self-Contained is checked.
Open Compressor. Drag your exported file into the project window. Under the Settings Tab, twirl open the DVD folder and drag the DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes on top of the job in the project window (provided your exported sequence is less than 90 minutes). This will apply 2 compressions to your file: MPEG-2 for the video and AC3 for the audio.
Open DVDSP. Import the 2 resulting files. Drag them both on top of the green Track icon in the graphical view (this view can be found in either the Extended or Advanced configurations). I use Advanced because it's easiest for me. To enable go to: WINDOW/CONFIGURATIONS/ADVANCED (or hit F3 on the keyboard).
Once your movie is connected to the track, right-click on the Track icon and choose First Play from the pop-up menu. Now the video will play as soon as inserted in the player.
Don't forget that the movie has to go somewhere when it's finished. Typically I create an "End Menu" so that the client can play the video again. Choose a template or create your own menu. Templates are easy, but less professional than building specific ones for specific jobs. To apply a template, just double-click it.
Once you have your menu, click on your Track again. In the Inspector, select the drop-down menu for End Jump and choose: MENU/MENU 1/[MENU]. Make a button in the Menu and connect it back to the track.
Now this is overly-simplified; you can make some really awesome and complex DVDs with DVDSP, but for that you really need to just play around with it.
    Good luck.

  • DVD doesn't play from the beginning when inserted a second time into a dvd player

DVD burnt in DVD studio pro, when ejected and inserted again into dvd player, the dvd plays from where it stopped the last tome it was ejected. It doesn't rewind and play from the beginning.
Is the problem in the burning settings in DVD studio pro? any help is really appreciated!

My DVD Player setting was Last option played, I changed it now to "beginning". It now starts from the beginning when I insert it again, thanks.
Another issue is that my First play in the DVD is a Track, then comes a Menu. When I leave to the Menu while the Track didnt finish, and then click the dvdmenu on my remote control, the Track resumes from where I exited to the menu last.
Is that something i can control ? To make that intro track start from the beginning?
Thank you, I appreciate the help!

  • IDVD - dvd plays automatically without going to the menu screen

    Hi,
I'm new to iDVD and burned my first project yesterday, after transfering it from iMovie.
A problem: I created chapter markers in iDVD, which when imported into iDVD appeared there. The home page let's you choose either to play the movie or select a scene. However, after burning the project to DVD and inserting it into a DVD player, it starts the movie automatically!
I would like it to go, by default, to the menu screen when inserting into a DVD player - so I can choose scenes. Any suggestions how I can get it to do that?
    Thank you,
    Mont

As you have rightfully pointed out above; I wouldn't assume iDvd'08 and iDvd'09 are identical versions. But they are very similar. There are more significant differences within separate iMovie versions, as well as iPhoto, GB, etc.
Have I tested the difference between iDvd'08 vs. iDvd'09? No, not yet. As soon as I do I'll make every attempt to post a few of the differences. At the moment, I'm looking into separate volumes / hard drive bootability differences between Tiger vs. Leopard on both an external FW HD as well as internal ATA and SATA hard drives. And it seems I have my work cut out for me in this regard for at least the next few weeks. As soon as I complete this latter issue I will come back to iDvd.
Under Tiger I didn't have to worry about making a clone (using CCC or SuperDuper) of my existing volume/s that contained iDvd and other i-apps. But apparently (at least at first glance) this is longer the case under Leopard.

  • Error message "disk is locked" when inserting blank DVD

My G4 is supposed to be able to burn a DVD, but when I insert the sample DVD that came with the computer when it was new, I keep getting the "disk is locked" message. It also happens with other DVD's that I bought specifically to use with the G4. I would appreciate your suggestions.

Any optical drive software that is worth its salt should enable burning of data discs (4.7GB or 8.5GB in the case of DVDs) as well as of specialized file formats. That said, however, one of the commonest reasons for failure to burn, even failure to recognize an optical drive, is extension conflict. This was especially true of Roxio's Toast v5.x, when using which it was necessary to disable all Apple extensions, USB and FireWire, so that control of the drive could be taken by Toast extensions. I had to do this only recently to get a friend's LaCie DVD-R burner to be recognized as a DVD (rather than CD) burner by a B&W under OS 9.2.2, let alone to burn DVDs. That possibility was the reason for asking about your software. However, if you are using only Apple software, there should be no issue of software conflicts of this nature.
Without wishing or intending to fob you off, I suggest that you will get much more up-to-the-moment guidance from active fellow-sufferers than is likely in this antediluvian category if you approach them in the iDVD specialist forums, which are divided into iDVD 6, 5, and 4 and under.

  • Itunes 8 Makes Vista lockup when inserting a blank DVD

After upgrading to iTunes 8.0 my PC will now freeze if I put in a blank DVD, the only way past this freeze is to hit the power button. I have burned blank DVDs in the past with no problem. After upgrading to iTunes 8 I can't even insert a blank DVD in my machine without it locking up
Does anyone have a fix? I cant uninstall iTunes since I don't have a backup of my music.

iTunes performance on Windows has always been lousy and seems to keep getting worse. I am uncertain if your conspiracy theories are well founded, though every time I load this piece of bloatware I have to admit the thought crosses my mind.
What I can't get over is how the new version seems to dominate my machine... demanding all its resources. When it's syncing or downloading content my CPU is at between 95 and 100% for the duration. I also love how when it is processing 'DRM Free' content from the iTunes plus store it maxes out your CPU and takes forever. What is it processing?! These are supposed to be unencumbered files -- but they sure encumber my PC when they are being processed.
I am certainly not about to buy a Mac; however, I do have a significant investment in Apple products and would like to see a resolution to this downward spiral in performance in the PC version of the iTunes application.
Is anybody listening? Your next release should have +no extra features+ and simply be a performance and stability release for your Windows customers who I would be surprised if they didn't eclipse Mac users in terms of numbers.

  • With iDVD, how can I create a DVD that auto plays on insert and then loops?

I want to burn a presentation using idvd which will be played at an exhibition. how do I create a dvd without menu that auto plays upon insert and then loops?

    To create a OneStep DVD:
Connect your DV camcorder to your computer and set the camera to VTR, VCR, or Play mode. Turn on your camcorder if it doesn't turn on automatically.
Open iDVD and click the OneStep DVD button. (If iDVD opens to a recent project, choose File > OneStep DVD.)
    Insert a recordable DVD disc.
iDVD rewinds the tape in the video camera and captures the video.
    ------------or-------------
To burn a OneStep DVD from a folder:
Choose File > "OneStep DVD from Movie."
Locate the movie you want to add in the dialog that opens, then click Import.
Insert a blank DVD disc into the optical drive.
This kind of disc is sometimes called "kiosk mode" and is a good way to create demos or other presentations that play automatically and require no user interaction.

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
