Making a file accessible to all users

Hi
Win 8.1 Pro with Media Centre.
I have a win 8.1 pc connected to a SBS 2011 domain. I have an MS Access MDE file in C:\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3z\MyMDE.MDE. I need the MDE file accessible to all users logged into to the pc. No matter how I set the permissions on the MDE file and the folders
including Everyone the file is not accessible to all users. I have also disabled the User Account Control but no luck.
What are simple steps to have a file accessible to all users please?
Thanks
Regards

Hi,
According to your description, I think this should be the folder problem. However, you can try to copy this file to the root of other Drive for test.
In addition, please make sure its user was Everyone and had full control like screenshot below:

  • Mount SMB share accessible by all users

    Hello,
I aim to have a smb share accessible to all users.
I've tried to mount with mount_smbfs ou autofs, but each time the mount is only accessible to one user and no right to group or others.
This is what i've do with autofs :
    in /etc/auto_master
    /Volumes/Resources
    auto_resources
    in /etc/auto_resources
    MyShare
    -fstype=smbfs
    ://login:password@hostname/share
Then i enable the share with
    sudo automount -vcu
When i try to acces the folder, it succeed but all the rights on all files in the share and the main folder it self become rwx------
    The same occure with mount_smbfs.
How can i "force" the permissions of the shared folder to fit my need ?
    Thanks

It sounds like you are talking about multiple users on a single computer being able to use the same mounted share at the same time.
As you have seen this does not work. Either each will get their own individual mounted copy, e.g. "/Volumes/Resources", "/Volumes/Resources 1", /Volumes/Resources 2" etc., or the others execept for the first user will be blocked. This limitation applies to both AFP and SMB.
However if you use NFS and do this before anyone logs in then it will be accessible for all users on that Mac at the same time.
NFS is still available in Mountain Lion.

  • Changing default open with for file type for all users

    hello
can I change the default app to open a specific file type for all users and not juist for my user?
i am admin for my mac mini.
    tnx
    gil

What applications are offered for open with depends on the application itself informing the system it can open certain files, plus your own custom selections for opening files. Evidently the alternate app you want to use does not claim to be able to open the files you are assigning it. If you have a plist editor and know how to use it you could edit the info.plist file inside the application itself to add the file type you want to the application's declaration of file types it will open. Then restart so the system will read that declaration. I think it would be far easier to simply launch the application and then drop a file you want it to open onto its icon in the Dock.

  • PL/SQL: How to make a function accessible to all users?

How can I make a function accessible to all users?
I have written a stored function called GET_NET_BALANCE.
I can run it but my users cannot.
I have tried the following, but my users still cannot
    run the function:
    GRANT EXECUTE ON GET_NET_BALANCE TO PUBLIC;

    Hi,
You can try creating a public synonym on the function so that it is accessible to all.

  • File Associations for all users

How does one go about changing file associations for file types for all users? I've recently installed iWork '08 on a computer on the network and now when I log in as a user it wants to open all of my Excel and Word Documents in Numbers and Pages respectively. How can I get it to default back to Microsoft Office for all of my Microsoft Office documents for all users. The iWork '08 install seemed to just take over, so it must be possible.
    Thanks!

I too need this information, but seeing it's been over a year and no one replied to the thread starter.....

  • Default WorkBook file extension for all users of BEx 7 in Offce 2007

    Hi Experts
We recently started using office 2007 with BEx 7.
However, many users still has Office 2003 installed.
I am looking to set the default file extension for all users to be .XLS.
I know that this option is available in Client level (Global Settings - Use XLS file format ) but I require that the checkbox will be automatically checked.
Is there a way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Yaniv

    Hello Yaniv,
Yes, you can maintan them globally.
this can be done in registry under :   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\BEx\Analyzer.
       UseXLSFileFormat
       Type: String Value
       Value true or false
For more information refer to SAP Note 1254112

  • Why aren't my "File Types" accessible to all users? TS Win2k8R2

I am an Admin on a Windows 2008 R2 server, with Terminal Services installed.
I want to have particular file associations created / active, so that any user who attempts to open particular files on this server users certain applications. I opened Control Panel, went to Default Programs, carefully added or made sure the file types
were associated as I wished. I clicked my test files and they indeed opened as I expected.
I logged out, logged in as a test admin user (who had never logged into this server, had no user profile), expecting that the SAME test files would open as I had specified as my Admin user. This did not happen. Indeed, I was asked to associate them again
(I did not do it). I went to control panel, checked default programs / file type associations ... and NONE of my carefully created file types were there.
What am I doing wrong? I need to solve this (and another user-setting issue) ASAP.
    Thanks for your time.
(and yes, I did search here first, I tried things suggested, but nothing has done it ... I have _NOT_ created a GPO file type setting, indeed, I am hoping I don't have to do that, because I have like 7 file types to configure, and that's a pain, and the domain
Policy could over write this server's policy at any time)
    SM

    Hi,
When you create a file association via the user interface you are creating a Per User association for your account.  To create global associations you would need to make the appropriate changes manually to the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (or find
utility that does it) and/or use group policy preferences or similar technique to deploy registry settings to each user. The registry settings will in effect create Per User associations for each user.

  • How to disable temp-files automatically in ALL user-profiles?

    Hello!
we use java in an attendance-clock-applet. unfortunately, the default system (JRE)-setting is always to KEEP the temporay files, which after a short while slows down all systems dramatically.
also, very unfortunately we use shared desktops, so every person on every computer newly creates a user-account in Win7 and therefor AGAIN is equipped with the default setting that causes the trouble with the temp files in the first place. because every employee can use ANY computer where a profile is created, these settings would have to be changed (into NOT keeping he temporary files!) manually for (number of employees x number of computers)=too much work...
i want to learn a trick, how i automatically can put de default to "do not keep temporary files on this computer" by means of a server-Group-policy!
i am now running a "clear disc-task" from a policy, but this is ugly...
if i install a new image on a client, or if a user creates a local profile by a login-procedure, i ALWAYS want to have the java-setting to NOT keep this trash BY DEFAULT....
Please help, because i din`t find help in online forums or the right regitry-setting to temper with!
    thanks from Vienna, austria

    Hi,
    Thank you for your response.
    > How would you define 'no longer needed'...?
The same as any other cached downloads: if user tries to download new large file, then previosly cached files should be automatically deleted.
But currently it is impossible to implement that.
iTunes simply displays "There is not enough room ..." message.
And user has no idea which application took soo much storage space.
He will have to uninstall all applications to reclaim storage.
I would prefer OS to automatically delete content of /tmp directories when it needs space.
Or, at least, send a notification, similar to didReceiveMemoryWarning,
so I will clean up the /tmp directory myself.
Do you know a better way?
    > Strip the cache (or block it's use completely) after each launch
This is not a solution. A user may not launch my app for a long time.
He simply does not know which app to launch to free space.

  • Making middle teir accessible to all gui class objects.

I'm designing a user interface at the moment for a
3 tier application. I've got a good knowledge of Java
but have never written a complicated gui with Swing.....
User Interface (GUI) --> Business Logic (JDBC classes) --> MYSQL DB
As the diagram shows, I want to keep the business logic separate
    from the user interface.
My problem is that I'm not sure the best way to give all the GUI's action listeners
access to the business logic object's methods which will call and return information
from the database to the UI.
Had there just been one UI class it would be easy to create an instance of the
business logic class from the UI class, but
the GUI is made up of many class objects with larger componets being made
up of several smaller component classes and so on. What I guess I'm unsure of
is what the standard practice is in this situation. Is a case of getting the GUI creation class
to create an instance of the business logic object and then pass it down through the many
GUI class constructors so that each GUI class object can reference it?
You thoughts are appreciated, many thanks,
    Andrew.

The commom practice here is to use some design patterns.
The ones you need are Proxy and DTO (Data Transfer Object).
The reasons behind using a proxy patters are that your DB could
change location, and you could have multiple GUI's using the
    same DB
You will have several DTO's which will contain the data from your
database. These DTO's are used to group data common to one use
case, so that in order to complete the use case, you only need to
remotely access the DB once. These Dto's are regular Java objects
with just getter and setter methods.
Your GUI uses a Proxy object to request a DTO.
someting like... you need some data to fill a form or a table?
    GUIProxy proxy = ProxyServices.getGUIProxy();
    FormDataDto dto = proxy.getFormData();
    JTexField nameField = new JTextField();
    nameField.setText(dto.getCustomerName());
    etc...
Notice how your GUI has no idea where the data lives,
how its stored, etc. It just knows how to request it.

  • How do I make an iPhoto Library accessible to all users of one computer ?

My wife and I use our new iMac, and we log in independently.  However it seems all the photos from our family album can be seen only by me - when she logs in, iPhoto says there are no photos stored.  How do we share these photos across both user accounts ?  Same question would go for music

The point of having different log-ins is that you can keep your data - that's your photos and your music - separate. If you don't, why have separate log-ins? So, the easiest and most simple solution is to use the same log-in.
Other than that: what do you mean by 'Share"?
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder (but note: some users find ongoing permissions issues with the Library in this location. It might be better to use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Install app so that its accessible to all users

Hi,  I have an application installed but its only accessible to a single user. There are two users on this MacBook and I would like both to have access. What should i do?

There are two Applications folders. One is at root on the drive and the other is in your Home folder.
If you install an application in the Applications folder that is in your Home folder then only you can use it.
If on the other hand you install into the Applications folder at root instead then everyone can use it.

  • All users share the same iCal

I want all the users on my iMac to share the same Calendar. How do I do it?

Here's how to share iCal calendars among multiple users on a single Mac.
What you need to do is to move the iCal folder to a shared folder that is accessible to all users and then replace the iCal folder in each user's library folder with a "symbolic link' to the shared iCal folder. The symbolic link looks like an "alias", but if you try this using "aliases" to the shared iCal folder it will not work (trust me). You can create symbolic links using the Terminal, but I have no idea how, and the idea of using the Terminal scares me. The easiest way that I know of to create a symbolic link is with a shareware application called Cocktail. It allows you to do a number of different things including System Maintenance, Network Optimization, etc. It took me a while to remember how to do this; I originally found the information in the Discussions when iCal was first released, but apparently none of those original postings are listed in the forums anymore.
Here's how to do it (you must have Administrator privileges):
First locate your iCal folder (your user name > Library > Application Support > iCal) and make a copy of it (Finder > File > Duplicate). Drag the copy to your Desktop until you're sure iCal is being shared between users.
Next move the original iCal folder into a Shared folder in the Users folder (Hard Disk > Users > Shared > iCal). To make sure all users can access the information, select the Shared folder, choose File > Get Info, click the little Lock icon, then under "Ownership & Permissions -> Details" make sure that the "Owner" is "System", "Group" is "Wheel" and "Access" for Owner, Group and Others is "Read & Write". Do the same with the iCal folder within the Shared folder, but this time, under "Ownership & Permissions -> Details" make sure that the "Owner" is "your user name", "Group" is "Staff" and "Access" for Owner, Group and Others is "Read & Write" and click the "Apply to Enclosed Items" button. I basing this information on what the Ownership & Permissions are for each of the folders in my system.
Open Cocktail (I'm using version 3.6.5). Once the app is open (you must enter an administrator's user name and password) click on the "Files" button, then click on the "Links" button. Where it says "Create Symbolic Link" click on the "Choose" button. Navigate to the iCal folder (Hard Disk > Users > Shared > iCal) and click "Choose" again. In the "Save As" box that appears enter "iCal", then navigate to the Application Support folder in your Home folder (your user name > Library > Application Support) and click "Save". Quit Cocktail and open iCal. You should see all of your calendars as you did before.
Log in under each additional User, move that User's iCal folder (user name > Library > Application Support > iCal) onto the Desktop, then create another Symbolic Link to replace it, using Cocktail as described above. In each case you should see the same calendar information as when you were logged in under your user name. As a test, add a New Event or To Do in iCal under one user, log out and back in under another user and you should see the changes when you open iCal.
Once everything appears to be working, you can delete the iCal folders from each User's Desktop.
As an additional maintenance measure, use Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions.
Unfortunately, if each User has his/her own calendars in iCal they will not be in the shared calendars. Only the calendars in the first iCal folder used to set up the shared folder will be available and I don't know of any way to merge or combine the other user's calendars into one.
Hope this helps and good luck!

  • Deployment.config/properties All Users dir on Windows

Question about the 2 files deployment.config and deployment.config which can be located in "%WINDIR%\Sun\Java\Deployment" or "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment"
Unfortunately the option to specify a new location for the cache is only applicable to the deployment.properties when it's located under the user profile, it doesn't work when specified under the windows directory.
I'm curious as to whether I can place the 2 files under the All Users profile and it would achieve the same result for everyone using the workstation.
    Any ideas?

After some testing it seems this is not possible.
However, as long as there is no cached profile on the workstation, placing the files into the "Default User" profile will create them for all subsequent logons. Which is a pretty good fix.

  • Software for all Users

New iMac. Purchased MS Office 2011.  Loaded under my Username.  Software doesn't appear in the other Usernames on the same computer.  Do I need to load it for each person?  How can I get it to be accessible to all Users on this computer?

Thanks for double-checking. It's all where it belongs.
I just created a new user (because I have only one, usually), and MS Office was available and fully functional for this user as well, as expected.
IOW, other users on your Mac should also be able to access and use MS Office apps. The only easy way I can think of to prevent it is those user accounts to be restricted, e.g. via Parental Controls. But even then they should be able to see the apps, just be unable to launch them.
If they can't even see MS Office in their Applications folder, like on your machine, that's strange.
Last input from my end before I'd have to give up:
To see if something is "wrong" with the existing other users, you may also create one more new one, just temporarily for testing purposes (you can delete it immediately after again incl its home folder).
    - If this new user can't see or access the Office apps either (but other 3rd-party non-Apple apps), something must have gone wrong during the Office install for some reason unknown. It's a royal PITA, but you may want to consider completely deleting Office, then re-installing.
    - If this new user can use the Office apps, something must be wrong with the existing other users. Instead of digging deeper, practically the easiest thing you should consider is re-creating these other users from scratch, bringing their data and documents over from the old to the new accounts, then deleting the old ones. I trust you're backing your Mac up, so nothing can get lost.
