Making a flying 3D Composition match background movement

Hi!
I'm working on a school project and started on a task that actually was to big for me. Therefore, I need help.
In AE I have a shot panning the cafeteria at the school, and I've made a  rough 3D Ice-tea. The Ice-tea is supposed to fly through the air.
Is there a way to track the background so the 3D Ice-tea is moving in a correct way? Track-motion, stabilize motion?
If you want me to explain more, just aks

Well, based on the images you provided on VideoCoPilot - this will be near impossible as a 2D track. You are far too close in, wich will make it extremley hard to find stable tracking points, as they will only persist a few frames. If at all, this will be an extremely fiddly montage of multiple tracks. And you are misunderstanding 3D matchmoving - you don't track a point, you reconstruct the camera and possibly static geometry and then use that to animate your items in correct relation to the camera, so once rendered they fit the original plate, which in your case realyl would be much, much easier to do (even if you still have the problem of being too tight in and the solution being difficult)...

  • Keeping image in place while background moves?

    Title may not be the best... I have video I am working on that only uses still images that I move by zooming and such... My background zooms out during the video, and I would like to keep an image placed on the background (some flags for the top of arch) As the background moves my images are not moving with the background and get out of place, and ideas? I'm sure this is a simple one and I know how it is done with a video using motion tracker of course I can't use motion tracker for this one, I also know i can key frame the flags in position but anything easier would be best. Thank you!

    Because your source materials are still images, it may be very easy to composite these elements in a single precomp/nested comp, then move the entire precomp as a whole.
    If none of your elements move until you put position/scale animation on them, you could create the flag+castle composition in Photoshop. That might be the easiest way.
    If you have already created the "zooming" animation on the background layer and want to be sure that other layers animate similarly, you can parent multiple layers to the background (animated) layer. By opening the "Parent" column and linking the child (flag layer) to the parent (background), you'll be able to edit the flag even though it follows the animation of the background.

  • Placing background movie/project settings

    I am lerning Livetype via a lynda.com tutorial. It says that if I'm using DV that my project settings should be set to DV NTSC 3:2, however my footage is shot in 16:9. What setting should I use. Do these settings only affect the placement of my type or do they affect the quality as well?
    When I place a background movie that I exported from FCP and I use the DV NTSC 3:2 setting the picture is squeezed as I would expect, however, when I swith the settings to 1080I 16:9 the movie just occupies the upper left corner of my canvas. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!!

    Hopefully I am not leading you astray here. Try using the NTSC 3:2 (or is it 4:3?), and then change the height and width settings to match that of the widescreen (16:9). Kind of bizarre that it doesn't have a common preset.
    From the FCE4 manual (http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=answerlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fmanuals.info. apple.com%2Fen%2FFinalCut_Express_4_UserManual.pdf&answerid=16777224), you can find frame size for NTSC on page 1065. This information might also be in your FCP manual.

  • Background movie not importing in Widescreen.

    I have a FCE project in widescreen mode, and I am trying to import it into my Livetype project, which is also widescreen.
    However, whenever I try to place it as a background movie, it is squashed to the regular size.
    Am I doing something stupidly wrong?

    You will likely need to change the Project Properties. In Live Type go to Edit>Project Properties
    There are some presets there for HD 16x9 but they may not match your settings in FCE. If that is true then you will need to select the "custom" option in Project Properties and match them to the setting you have in your FCE proect

  • How to make the background move over when a movie clip hits the edge

    ok so the idea here is to make a page with written content on it. the conent will not be able to be seen unless the user hits the arrow keys on there key board. So i need to make a group of objects i can make into a movie clip and than inside that movie clip make an animation that plays the squirrel running. i will pause here to ask two things i dont know how to do i want the squirrel to have an animation when standing still where it flicks its tail (like a real squirrel would). and also how would i flip the squirrel so when the left key is pressed it points left and when the right arrow is pressed it faces left? and my main question when it reaches the edge of the stage the extended background that runs off stage moves over to reavel more content. as well as not have the squirrel run off stage? in short i am using the squirrel to view the full pages content.

    You're asking for quite a bit and aren't likely to get anyone to hand you a detailed solution.  Here's some things to think about.
    As far as flicking the tail goes, that's something you'll have to work out as an animation.  You could do it as a timeline animation and/or as a coded animation where you adjust the rotation and other properties of the tail.
    Getting the object to face left and right ican be a simple matter of changing its xscale property from 1 to -1 depending on which way it normally faces (1).
    If you don't have a problem making the squirrel move to the edge, then you should have no problem making the background move either.  You just need to continually check the squirrel x property to know when it hits the edge.  Personally, I would only move the background and leave the squirrel in the center.

  • How to change background movie in CS5?

    When I try to delete a background movie it errors "cannot be deleted because it is in current use"  How do I detach it from the project to swap in another movie?

    A third variation on these responses, all of which are correct.
    You don't have to "delete" the current motion video in order to replace it.  Just replace it as Erik described using the pickwhip.
    You can also delete it, in order to have no motion.  This is what Erik is describing as manually deleting the filename.  Use Bill's method to open the menu (or if open, click on the menu to select it),  Click on the motion tab, then click on the filename in the "Video" line, and hit the "delete" key.
    I don't think you were actually asking how to delete the "old" motion asset from the project, but to do that, you must first remove it or replace it as motion in a menu.

  • Looping Background Movie Clip

    Hi i am having trouble with having a looping background movie
    clip on the bottom layer of my flash project. I have it on the
    bottom layer in the first frame, above it i have some menus fading
    in and it seems as though once it gets to this scene, it just plays
    the movie clip over and over and never goes to the 2nd frame of my
    scene. Is there anyway to have a looping background movie clip
    inside of flash 8?
    Thank you in advance,
    Tyler

    You can use a variable to keep count of how many times you loop, and until it exceeds a particulr value (2 or 3) you execute a setTimeout() call that waits for however long you want to delay and then tells the movieclip to gotoAndPlay(1).
    So in the first frame you would establish the counting variable...
    var count;
    if(count == undefined){ // only set it to 0 once
    count = 0;
    and in the last frame you would do your incrementing and control....
    stop();
    count += 1;
    if(count < 3){
    setTimeout(waitABit, 2000); // call function in 2 secs
    function waitABit(){
    gotoAndPlay(1);

  • Poor quality of background movie

    Can someone please help.
    I created a 30 second clip with text in After Effects and rendered it out as a QT file at the highest resolution.
    I then brought that into DVDSP and placed it as a background movie for my menu. The quality of the movie is just awful.(whether viewed on my video monitor, or on my computer screen) When I place that same movie into a track and play it - no problem!
    In fact any movie that looks great in a track, looks terrible as background in a menu.
    Should I render it out as an MPEG2 file first? Would that provide better resolution? Or is this just one big disappointment with DVDSP?
    Thanks in advance
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Problem solved - I encoded the movie as an MPEG 2 files in compressor, and it now looks Ok.
    So that's the answer. I wish that the people who write Apple's manuals, would be a little more honest though. Instead of talking about "subtle changes to the background video" that should say exactly what happens - it looks terrible!
    So for all those who may experience this kind of problem, and don't want to waste three hours trying to figure out why, here's what the manual should say...
    "If you use a movie as a background to your menu, and have drop zones and overlays, our encoder is incapable of encoding the movie in decently quality and it will look like crap. You should first encode your background movie as an MP2 file before importing it as an asset and using it in your project"
    Thanks for all those who tried to help anyway.

  • Background Movie has No Sound

    Hello,
    I am new to Livetype and am trying to create end credits for my film.
    I have exported a quicktime movie from FCP of the last scene and the music to play during the end credits.
    When I bring this clip as a background movie into Livetype it plays with NO SOUND at all.
    I need sound so we can create the credits to the rhythm of the music.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Marc Griffin

    LiveType doesn't support sound.
    If you must have sound, try to do this in Motion.
    Otherwise, place cuts to the beat in a duplicated version of your end credits sequence, then export that for LiveType. The cuts should show up as markers in LiveType.

  • Background Movie becomes slow motion

    Hi everyone,
    I've imported a background movie in my Live Type file so that I would know where on the screen and for how long I should place my graphics. However, it turns out that when I play the movie on the canvas, it's in slow motion. Is there a way that I can make the movie run smoothly like the original? I've tried rendering, but it doesn't seem to work...
    Thanks for any advice.

    However, it turns out that when I play the movie on the canvas, it's in slow motion. < </div>
    Are you saying when you render it's slowed down or is this what you're seeing wile editing your LT tracks? What happens if you do a RAM preview render so the timeline turns green?

  • Placing Background move issue - Live type

    I'm having trouble with placing a background movie in live type.  I encoded a 5 second movie in HDV 1080i60... I've set my project properties to HDV1080i60 and when I place the movie in the background it squeezes it to 4:3.  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any help!
    John

    Thanks Christina.  I've set my project properties to 1080i60 and encoded my video using compressor and using a Quicktime conversion.  they both output the correct file.  my canvas in LIve Type is set to the 1080i60 but when I place the movie it snaps to what looks like a 4:3 format.
    When I check my project props after placement, the size switches to "custom"  but still retains the 1440 x 1080 width and height.
    Thanks for your quick response to my issue by the way... I 'm still not clear as to what is happening.  I was able to use the "place" options instead of "place background movie"....my canvas stayed at the 16:9 ratio but my video was somewhat narrower.  I used the transform capabilities (the handles on the placed video) of the video and the canvas as a guide and just sized it to the right ratio.
    Hope this isn't too complicated of a reply
    and Thank again for the reply

  • Background movie and drop zones?

    Hello everyone, I'm Dion (David's son), and I'm trying to make an iDVD theme which has a custom moving background and drop zones.
    I'm modifying the theme "Sliding Panes", which has seven drop zones. When I drag my custom movie either to the background of the theme or to the Background well in the Settings pane, the background movie is applied, but the drop zones disappear. I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much, I'm not an iDVD veteran) to avoid this, which includes opening the Drop Zone Editor and then trying to drag the movie to the Background well, which, obviously, doesn't work.
    I would sincerely appreciate any advice or answer anyone has - even if it doesn't work.

    If you replace the theme background with anything you're going to remove the drop zones that are designed to play within that theme's background. I guess it has "holes" in the background where the drop zones play. You would have to have transparent spots in your movie so the drop zones would play thru. Even then I'm not sure replacing the theme background wouldn't remove the drop zones from use.
    You could try the following. Select the sliding panes theme and make it a favorite. The in your User/Library/iDVD/favorites folder find that theme, go into the them package, locate the Contents/Resurces folder in there and substitute your movie for the backgroundmoive that's in there. You'll have to rename your movie accordingly. That may do it. Be sure to do it on a favorite copy so in case it doesn't work you can just remove that them from that folder.
    Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • DVD Menu:  Make Person On Background Movie Walk In Front Of Drop Zone?

    This is the same idea as the iDVD theme - Fish.
    In that, there is a photo frame at the bottom of a fish tank.
    The inside of the frame is a drop zone.
    A fish on the background/theme movie swims in front of the photo frame containing the movie you have dropped onto the drop zone.
    It looks completely realistic and there is no translucency in the fish.
    How is it done?

    Just to make it clear, I can do the drop zones etc. it is just that I can't make something on the background movie pass in front of the drop zone.
    When I tried it in DVDSP I had partial success by fiddling with the order of the layers but the "fish" was always translucent with the movie in the drop zone showing through it slightly.
    I am sure it can be done in Motion?

  • Hearing Audio from placed background movie

    I am trying to line up my audio from a FCP .mov file. When I play my movie...the video plays fine in LType but there is no audio that plays. Is there a setting Im missing? This has worked before for me where I can hear my audio adjust the graphics and all is well. Any help is appreciated!

    What you probably want to do is,
    From within FCE/FCP/FCS is
    1. place timing markers within the sequence timeline.
    2. File->Export->For LiveType and include the appropriate markers.
    From within LT is "Importing a Background Movie With Timing Markers" which is found on page 45 of the LT2.1.4 manual.
    My $1.45 worth. Hope it helps, even though it maybe a different workflow to what you had in mind.
