Making a forum in dreamweaver.

I am trying to make a forum script in dreamweaver. I know it
is possible because someone i know did it. Is there any tutorials
on how to make a forum with dreamweaver? I am stuck.

Not sure why you would want to re-invent the wheel and have
no hair left by the time you tried to
get this done :-) There are many open source forum apps
available.
However, I believe I may have seen a tutorial over at the
Adobe Dreamweaver site some time ago about
creating a forum.

  • Forum in Dreamweaver

Hey, im looking for step by step instructions on how to
    create a forum in dreamweaver.

As Dooza expressed, there's no easy way to "create" a forum.
Even Adobe uses third party software to power their own forums.
PHPBB, which is my personal favorite, is a fully fledged
application that is made up of hundreds of files and tens of
thousands of lines of code. It's taken thousands of hours and
dozens of people to create - no easy task for sure. But since it's
an open source product you're free to install it and "skin" it to
look like whatever you want. There's countless guides available on
doing just that if you search Google. As an added bonus the user
community for PHPBB is huge and can help you get over a lot of
    issues you might run into.

  • How to share user login and passwords between blog, forum and Dreamweaver?

I have a site created with Dreamweaver. I want to allow
visitors to create a username and password which will allow them to
post blog feedback to many pages on my site, post in a forum, and
provide their own comments into a database I can show the results
for on certain pages. The trick is I want this to all work with one
username and password so they don't have to use 3 different logins.
I'm not sure if this is too technical, but I thought I'd ask before
getting into it and realizing it won't work or I don't have a clue
    what I'm doing.
I want to allow blog data to be added to a page with CSS
content by both admin and visitors (to create an active discussion
based on the data on that page). I've seen it on some sites, but
don't know how to do it myself:
    http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/ea-extends-take-two-purchase-offer-deadline-a-third-time /
I can see they are using Weblogs Inc. software, but it
appears the company only collaborates with people they see a fit
    with.
I also want a forum and I know phpp is recommended. I like
the interface, but am unsure if the login data can be shared with a
    blog.
Lastly, I wanted to allow users to write their own reviews
and then show the results and average them for display on the site.
I have read and know how to create the database for the site. I
just don't know how to share the usernames and password information
    with the blog and forum.
Also, how do I force Dreamweaver to validate that the
usernames and passwords are exactly correct before letting people
    post under that identity?
I'm loving Dreamweaver and making sites so far. Just trying
to take it to the next level.
    Thanks very much!

What you want is a CMS, but your not going to get one for
    Dreamweaver,
well, not the kind you want. Something like Joomla can do
    this, you can
add phpBB3 to it, and then using the JFusion extension allow
    them to
share the user database, but I warn you now, its a steep
    learning curve.
I ended up buying a book just to get to grips with the key
    concepts.

  • MAKING AN IFRAME IN DREAMWEAVER TO IMPORT INTO MUSE FOR CUSTOMER LOGIN

Okay So i am making a client there website in muse and they're wanting a customer login and customer sign up into there webpage but muse does not have that option. I called adobe and they said to make an iframe in dreamweaver and then put it into muse in html. How do i do this? I NEED HELP BADLY!

The code that Muse creates is completely different to the code that Dreamweaver and other good IDE's produce. I doubt that you can put that code into Muse.
It may be an idea to ask the question the the Muse forum.

  • Making a living with Dreamweaver; where's the beef?

Circumstances have put me in a situation where I need to put my Internet design/development skills to work as a self-employed person. My previous experience has always been in the corporate cubicle environment. For those of you here who are successfully self employed, where are some good places to look for information about making the right decisions and avoiding the mistakes? I found some highly recommended books for sale at Amazon, but noticed they're written for bricks-and-mortar entrepreneur types, not nerds with a service to offer. Tips?

Murray has offered some good suggestions. Here's a few more:
Register a domain and start a website for your nascent company. Make it as good as you can make it. Get business cards printed and spend a bit of time either getting a logo (having a great designer design it) or by doing it yourself. Find yourself a very good hosting company that answers its tech support phone 24/7 and prepare to set up a VPS with that company. VPSs tend to run $400 - $500 annually, but you can put loads of websites on them and charge the going annual rate for an hosted website for each one, pocketing the profit.
Join your local Chamber of Commerce. Go to Chamber meetups and, especially multi-chamber events. Hand out your business card and follow up. Learn to do a 30 second commercial about yourself and your company and tell people at these meetups exactly what you are looking for (eg: "This week, I'm looking for restaurants that need to put their entire menu on-line so that they can entice more to reserve").
If you don't own a copy of Dreamweaver, get one. Also get a copy of Photoshop. Experiment with your own website. learn to do things faster. I literally live in these two applications and do websites for small businesses.
I would try to learn either one server-side language (that is supported by your hosting company) or one client-side language (which ususally means Javascript) in the next year along with HTML and CSS. Be disciplined about learning new stuff.
Keep good books. I realize that you will find that your earnings are depressing at first and you'll want to not even balance your checkbook. Don't give in to that temptation. Every purchase you make for your business is a tax-deduction. Every mile you drive to see a client is, too. Record everything and keep everything together. See a CPA this fall to set yourself up to save money come tax time in April. You might consider using either Quicken or Quickbooks Pro -- but you should get a categories list from a CPA that you will use next year so that he or she will be prepared for the kinds of things you are spending money on.
Do not do a templated website and then do the same website for every client you come across. Make sure that what you do can be adapted to any kind of look you might want.
Realize that Dreamweaver "plugins" will save you lots of time, but never directly charge a client for one. Any plugin you purchase needs to work for several clients and one client ought not have to pay for the entire purchase, which is supposed to make you faster.
Realize that any technique done in any plugin also lives out there on the Internet. this includes drop-down menus, jQuery effects, image rotators, accordions and so on. The advantage of a plugin is to save you time so, if you are pressed for time, buy what fits your client's needs and try to make it pay you back with the next several clients.
Keep track of your hours spent on each client so that you know how long it takes to do a website. Then make sure you're making more than minimum wage when you quote one.
Do not do any website without a contract. Consult with a good attorney and set up your company and design a standard contract that you will have everyone sign before you start work. Always require a deposit for your work. Always insist on payment in full before you launch a website. I like my work, but I like my work for free not at all. My company is an LLC and that keeps anyone from going after anything I own, like my house, my car and so on. I have to pay an annual Business Entity Tax in my state, but it's an insurance policy that is more than worth it.
Now, I am certain my suggestions have all ready bankrupted you in purchases and fees. But I have fewer headaches because I set things up before I really knew what I was doing.
Now that I know a little more, I am very pleased to show it off a little.

  • Making a Forum

I was thinking about making an online forum and wondering how to do this with databases. Would each topic be a table and replies would be rows, or would there be one table and every topic a row with all the replies in a cell? Or is there another way?

I was thinking about making an online forum and
wondering how to do this with databases. Would each
topic be a table and replies would be rows, or would
there be one table and every topic a row with all the
replies in a cell? Or is there another way? There are lots of ways to do anything. None of them are "right", but you'll find that some will be more advantagous than others.
Sit down, decide how you'd like to do it, and try it out.
You've got to come up with a description of the problem you'd like to solve first. I think a forum like this wouldn't be trivial to develop. See if you can write out a description in natural language before you do anything else.

  • Stop making new forum categories! I can't find anything!

Ok. So I know that now that Buzzword has been 'integrated'
with many other Adobe things, it has a lot more users, but I truly
miss the old forum more and more. Especially considering how many
people are on now. In the old forum, new comments were on the top,
one did not have to search for them. And they were all in one
place, rather than people making their own category (like I am
    doing now).
I would also really like to know if the old forum is still
accessible somewhere? I am curious to see what the last comments
were by older users of Buzzword.
    My suggestions:
1 - Bookmarks. I have become dependent on bookmarks.... Open
Office does it so well, it is easy to create and browse through
them. You could make, like a little box (similar to the symbol
insert one) where users could create, destroy, and follow bookmarks
with just a click. It would be awesome.
2 - A floating message thing. Something that you could write
comments in but wasn't attached to a specific line. I have created
separate documents for this purpose, but it would be nice to be
able to have it to the side. Like Macintosh Stickies or something.
3 - I thought I had another idea that I posted in the old
forum... But I can't remember it... Is there anyway to visit that?
4 - Everyone wants a new organizer. Tags and folders and
stuff. I suppose it would be nice. But it is defiantly the most
suggested feature in the old forum.
5 - It would also be nice to be able to re-name a document
for your organizer alone. Not that it would affect the true name
    and how others saw it.
    6 - A horizontal ruler.
7 - Another thing that would be great is a 'mark as unread'
feature, like e-mail has, in case I opened a document and didn't
find what was different or just wanted to mark it so I remember to
look at it when I get on next. And on that note, it would be nice
if Buzzword could temporarily mark (with an underline or something,
perhaps a colored bar to the left) changes that happened to the
    document.
8 - Fix the forum. I am all for freedom, usually. But I think
there could be more control. Like not allowing everyone to make new
topics, but preform within the topics that are there. It is easier
to organize this way. Less chaotic.
Oh, and if there have been more changes to buzzword that I
don't know about, then you should consider updating the "Welcome to
    Buzzword" document....
Thank you for this wonderful word processor. It really is one
of my favorite (ironically, because it is more simple, yet pretty
and has pagination. It is a pity to me that so many new users want
formats and styles and such...) Thanks for reading all our comments
    so patiently.

The old Buzzword forum is no longer available, as we want to
encourage existing and new users to frequent this forum to post
their ideas, comments and ask questions.
However, we are currently going through all of the content of
the old Buzzword Forum (there were many great ideas and good
solutions which we don't want to lose) to bring the solutions to
this forum. You'll see some new postings in this forum based on the
content in the original Buzzword forum.
The ideas and suggestions for feature enhancements have been
logged with the product team. So, your ideas and comments have had
    an impact!

  • Making lay-outs in Dreamweaver

Hello;I have been studying 2 Dreamweaver learning books(and a lot of “background books“(php) the past 3 years. In one of them the author explained the different ways of using lay-outs in DW.(the “ready to go” css lay-outs,tables,etc.) However:I want to make my own designs, instead of using pre-designed lay-outs.(and tables)Therefore the possiblity of using AP divs seemed to be the best way. A disadvantage of the AP divs is,of course, that the divs are absolutely positioned,so that on a small screen the content is moving to the right. Because of the fact that making designs using AP divs, just like using a pencel or brush like a real painter does, makes designing a lot of fun(instead of playing in the plain code) I kept on using the AP divs, but instead of “position:absolute” I have changed this into “position relative”. I have also used a container in which I put all the other divs, just for keeping it all centered. At first site,it looked all fine, but when inserting other stuff, like plain tekst, extra code or images, everything went nuts,a bit like when using a table:all the divs weren’t positioned nicely anymore and I had to re-place everything again. The changes kept going on and, especially in the design-mode,it’s all messed up. So my question is: What lay-out method do you all,as experienced webdesigners, prefer to use, according to modern standards??(and still make designing a fun thing to do,without programming in the code) Of course with the use of Dreamweaver and all its toolbars, buttons and features. I really hope you have the answer for me!!! Many thanks for the help you are giving me!! Greetings igor

    Hi Again
I tend to use whatever css based layout type I think is best suited for the design, (never tables for layout and absolute positioned items with caution, see my answer to your previous thread regarding % values) this may even include using 'trial' feature such as html 5 and css3 with jQuery or whatever.
The thing is with layouts, is to decide how you wish your page to look and function, then work out how-to-do it, that for me is what keeps it interesting. As an example I have even experimented with using a flash swf as a resizeable background image with animation, (works, but the browser must be resized by 1px to force the swf to resize on initial load of page).

  • Creating Forums Usig Dreamweaver

Can someone please help me out. I want to make a custom
forum, but, I don't have an idea of how to do it. Any help would be
    greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Firstly check with your host. Somethimes, they have a script
that you can use diretly from their control panel. If not,
    then check with
    them what they
    support, asp, php etc.,
Here are a few links for different server models - take your
    pick :) All
come with help docs or help forums, so getting one online
    shouldn't be too
    difficult to a non programmer.

  • Do you need CS6 to have a computer forum in Dreamweaver

I was told by an Adobe Live Chat Representative that I needed to upgrade from CS4 to CS6 if I wanted to add a forum to my website.
When I tried to learn how, I found an earlier forum discussion that said you can't make a forum directly in Dreamweaver unless you can hand-program in PHP or SQL. Instead you have to use an outside software package (such as phpBB) and integrate it into your existing website. So I need to know:
    1) Can you create forums using the tools available in CS6?
    2) Can you integrate a forum desgined using a package such as phpBB into a Website designed in CS6?
    3) Do I have to upgrade to CS6, or can I accomplish the same thing with CS4?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You need to find the Dreamweaver forum... this forum is not made to discuss products
Start at http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa and select from the drop down list

  • Forum Extension - Dreamweaver CS3

I am looking for a Forum extension for CS3.
    The following would be ideal...
Originator of thread could choose to receive an email each time there is a new entry to their thread.
Each user to have to register before either originating a thread or posting a response to a thread.
Administrator able to delete posts if unacceptable content.
Administrator to be able to blacklist a given user.
System to email a password to a new user, but user able to update that password once logged in.
There seems to be 1 forum available in Adobe Exchange, but there seems to be little detail available, and little feedback posted other than potential buyers requesting more detail !
Can anyone suggest a forum extension that they have used and works well ?
    Thanks.

DW does not have built in blog software. As for how to do
    Blogger,
sign up for an account and give it a try, it's quite simple.

We are using Dreamweaver CS3, it has been working fine for years, just recently we have found we are unable to create tables, not only in new documents but also in old ones. We are getting the following message:

The answer is in the Dreamweaver FAQ. See Deleting a corrupt cache file.

  • Making a forum or blog with flash?

I'd like to know why I've never seen a forum (like this one)
or a blog made out of flash. Is there a technical hurdle? Is it
because Google won't be able to index it?
    Thanks.

There are lots of "blogs" made with Flash actually.
We just did an author's site who has a blog...
    http://www.latayne.com
    It's in Flash.
In fact, we used to use Blogger to do the "backend" editing
of all the sites we did... so that sites like
    http://www.nysbroadcasters.org
are done with Flash, and grabs the content from Blogger.
Using Blogger like that is actually a GOOD way to get Google
to index your sites in fact.
As for a forum like this... yes... that might be a bit more
difficult... though I promise I've seen one before.

I did this once a little while ago. As I remember, you have
    to strip out
the body, head and script tags from your file, as Ebay puts
    those in.
Try copying everything between into the html box they give
    you.
Hope that makes sense, I am working from memory and so this
    may not be
exactly right, but hopefully will get you on the right path.

  • Making a forum thread/section hidden from anyone NOT logged in.

I was wondering if it would be possible to set the forum software to hide a specific thread/section from anyone not logged in.
Specifically I had in mind the email signup thread here. It would be nice to hide at least this specific thread from anyone NOT logged in, so as to keep the spam bots from harvesting the emails ..... Just a thought   Not sure if this forum software allows threads to be hidden or just entire catagories.

    I just posted this:
    crouse wrote:

I'd like to have "USERNAME". Thanks.
If you already HAVE posted your entire email address....... i suggest editing your own post and removing the "@archlinux.us" part.  Just a friendly tip
in the thread ..... TWICE.  If people don't follow the suggestions, then the spam will be their OWN problem   I think the thread fits in community better than anywhere else, so I say just leave it there.  Eventually I might setup some sort of form to automate the whole process, I've got about half of it done actually, but for now this seems to work best for me.
