Making a link in a template

New DW8 user here and I am just starting to learn web
creation. Anyway, my department's website is here.
http://medicalboard.iowa.gov/
I would like to make the top bar be a permanent link to
always go back to the homepage with the "Welcome" message. Now I
edited that image in DW8 so it should point to the index.html file,
but when I Save it and Upload it to the server and then run my
cursor over it, it doesnt change to the little hand.
How can I fix this? Thanks experts and web gurus.

Note that the whole website navigation is just two images
with hotspots.
Your solution will surely cause problems there with such an
arcane approach.

  • Why do links in the template change location to 'file:///'...on the pages created from the template?

    Im not sure what I am doing wrong but I am building a portfolio site from a template that I downloaded online.
    The site is working and I am slowly converting it from the template content to the content that I want.
    As I will be editing the site and adding more pages I decided to try and add the Header, footer and main navigation bar as a template with another gallery container and navigation as an option on the template.
    I thought that it was working fine untill I noticed that the links on the pages created using the template are showing as follows,
    instead of the links that were in the template that show as,
    Is this something that will change when I upload the site with the template or have I done something wrong making the links?

    Usually this happens when you don't use a proper Site Definition, or if you have files outside your defined site folder.
    Have you defined your site properly?

  • Problem with links on email templates

    Problem with links on email templates
    Hi,
    We have been having issues with links on our email templates. Some of the links point to the following URL:
    http://server'sname/thirdparty/FCKeditor/editor/fckeditor.html?InstanceName=emailTemplatesDTO.htmlBody&Toolbar=NewscaleFCKEditorToolBar#URL
    Sometimes we get “Unknown internal error” on the web page.
    Can anyone help or advise on how to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Wesley.

    Hi Wesley,
    This is rather late, but we've seen the same thing frequently (and I believe can replicate it).  It's caused when you a creating a new email by copying the content of an existing one with a name space in it.
    Upon copying, the link gets scrambled.  The approach we use is to copy the email in to a new template, then strip out all of the URL links and add them back in.
    Thanks!

  • Links to Word Templates

    I am trying to create links to Word templates but when
    someone clicks on them they become documents instead of the *.dot.
    I checked and someone said that the web server needed to be
    configured to have a MIME type assignment for *.dot files as
    "application/msword"? Are we supposed to do this in Dreamweaver,
    and if so how do I do it?

    MIME types are added to the server. How to do this depends on
    your server.

  • How to make link in a template editable in a page?

    I am new to Dreamweaver. I'm trying to create a link in a

    Modify->Templates->Make Attribute Editable..., but the
    link still cannot be edited in any of the pages. Can someone help
    me with this?

    Sorry, that's just the way editable attributes work.

    Just put the link inside an editable region. The link will
    appear in
    new pages made from the template, but you can edit or delete
    the link
    in those child pages.

    How i can add web link to a template successfully .I've read the following to do it ,but I still have some ambiguity:
    It says :
    1-In the Object Navigator ,open the template property inspector
    2- under the report Escapes node, set the type for the property of choice
    -use text if you will enter the property value(Can you give me an example )
    -use file if you will import the property value from a file (can you give me an example)
    3-Under the report Escapes node , set the value for the property of choice (can you give me an example).
    -use the browse button to select an HTML file to import
    (can you give me an example )
    Thanks an advance

    please explain in more detail what you are trying to do. it is not clear from your current description.

  • Links for BC Templates

    I would like to look in more detail at the templates that Business Catalyst supplies.
    Are there links to these templates to browse the sites?
    I have found the Oxo eCommerce template: http://oxoecommercetemplate.businesscatalyst.com/
    but cannot find others. Am I missing something obvious?

    Hey Lynda Spangler,
    I would recommend creating a new trial site from within your Partner Portal for each individual template Business Catlayst provides. This way, you can also log into the admin console and have full control over the customization of these templates.
    Cheers.

  • Making a link hover background

    I have a side navigation with six links. To each link I assinged a different class so it could have a separate background. (I used background images instead of making the links themselves into images, thus making the site easier to read for the visually impared.) Now I want to make a different background for each link upon mouse hover. What do I attach to the CSS code to do this? I know I need a compound rule, I just can't figure out what to specify to it. I'll give the line of code for one link if that helps:
    .container .body .sidebar1 .nav li .videogallerylink

    Torkuda1234 wrote:
    "Or do you want every single individual link to have its own unique background on hover?"
    Yes, that!
    So use the technique shown in Nancy's link by applying a unique class to each link and applying the CSS
    from the CSS
    .nav li a.link1:link, .nav li alink1:visited {
        background-image: url(../images/photo%20link.jpg);
    .nav li a.link1:hover, .nav li a.link1:active {
        background-image: url(../images/IMAGE-ON-HOVER.jpg);
    .nav li a.link2:link, .nav li alink2:visited {
        background-image: url(../images/photo%20link.jpg);
    .nav li a.link2:hover, .nav li a.link2:active {
        background-image: url(../images/SECOND-IMAGE-ON-HOVER.jpg);
    from the HTML
    <ul class="nav">
            <li><a href="#" class="link1">Photo Gallery</a></li>
            <li><a href="#" class="link2">Another link</a></li>

    The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
    This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
    If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

  • How to call a portal KM URL link from WAD template Link

    Hi All
    I  am trying to call a Portal KM URL Link from the web template using the link control.
    I cannot figure out whare and how to put the portal KM URL Link into the web application web link.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karen

    Add content administration role to the user.
    The the content administration tab would be visible to the user in the main menu tab.
    Then in content administration tab, configure the URL for KM URL tab or link.
    This would be done by EP experts. Please contact your EP experts to do.
    Hope this would help you.

  • Issue with links on WAD Template when transporting from BWD to BWP

    Hello experts,
    We're facing a problem in our project.
    Until now we we're working directly in a productive system, but last week we've copied our productive system (BWP) to the development system (BWD).
    Now we change almost everything in BWD and then transport to BWP.
    However, our templates that have been constructed in the Web Application Designer (WAD) have some links that have dependency on the string 'bwd', example:
    "http://sapbwd.tap.pt:8"
    All the links with this issue are ragarding to workbooks constructed over the Excel (BEx Analyzer).
    When we transport the template to BWP the link remains the same, where the link should be "http://sapbwp.tap.pt:8"
    We would like to eliminate this issue, eliminating the reference to the system (BWD) or changing the link name when the template was transported to BWP.
    Is there any easy way to workaround this problem?
    We're counting with your knowledge and know how to help us.
    Best Regards,
    Rui Romba

    Hi Rui,
    i don't know if understood you well, but if your requirement is to restrict users and queries execution to a specific server the solution is to create logon groups (transaction SMLG1), however this solution have impact not only in reports execution but also in the login options.
    In this transaction you define for a group which instance server is allowed, in your case you could specify the server where the reports should run.
    I strange the fact of your Wad reports allways open in the correct server, but it could be due to authorization definitions.
    Hope it helps.

  • Links to Word template from Reader X

    I have setup pdf document with links to Microsoft Word templates. They were working correctly in Reader 9 and they are working correctly when opened from Acrobat X Professional but when I open pdf file in Reader X the do not work. In Acrobat Pro clicking on link opens window which shows the name of the template i.e. sample.net. In Reader X it is showing the path to Winword.exe. Template is opened but macros are blocked. Can I modify some settings of the Reader X to have it working properly as it does in Acrobat Pro ?
    Thanks for help.
    Tony

    If it worked before but doesn't work after you "upgraded" then, you upgraded the wrong thing.
    You "may" have had Adobe Acrobat before but now you have Adobe Reader which cannot do what you want.
    Look around in your program files. Reader should not have removed Acrobat if that's indeed what you were using.

  • How (best) to include links in a template?

    I'm creating a ~55 page site, where most of the structure of
    the site (3 nav bars, etc.) will be similar throughout. I know the
    client will change the order and names of the links, as well where
    they point. Yet they want to have it mostly created first.
    I thought working from a template would be the best, but I
    would then be unable to disable the link of the current page, say,
    the "home" button when I'm already on the home page etc. Can anyone
    advise a work-flow that would allow me to just edit something once
    and propagate it throughout when I need to, yet not when I don't?
    Thank you so much!
    Nick

    Take a look at my divaGPS for this. With divaGPS added to
    your template,
    you can freely change the menus, their links, whatever you
    want, and
    divaGPS will still highlight AND disable the link on the the
    current
    menu item automatically when the page is viewed in the
    browser.
    fyi divaGPSfree might be adequate for you except for the fact
    that it
    will not disable the current menu item's link, which is a
    feature you
    requested. Some people feel it is okay merely to force the
    cursor (via
    css) back to the default pointer. If you agree, then
    divaGPSfree might
    be adequate. However, if you prefer to truly disable the
    current link,
    then divaGPS is what you'd need.
    Either work perfectly in Templates or their Children with now
    special
    steps needed.

  • Links when using Templates don't work in preview

    I have created a template for the 'traditional' top banner,
    left navaigation buttons site. In preview mode, any links
    (navigation area or not) that point to another page in the web site
    do not work, but external links go. (No error is reported, but
    nothing happends) However, when published, all links work. Any
    ideas what is happening?
    Eample link:
    <a href="../catalog.htm" target="_self"><img
    src="../_derived/catalog.htm_cmp_edge000_vbtn.gif" width="140"
    height="34" border="0" alt="Catalog &amp; Renewal"
    /></a><br />
    The graphic does appear for the link.
    If it makes any difference, this is a convert FrontPage site
    where I manually edited the html to import the pages into my first
    Dreamweaver site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Carolyn Wood

    > In preview mode, any links (navigation area or not) that
    point to
    > another page in the web site do not work,
    This is how DW will work if you are using ROOT RELATIVE
    links, *and*
    temporary files to preview.
    Here's an example -
    * I create a page with a link to an image -> <img
    src="/images/foo.gif">
    (note that the image link is a root relative link - the path
    says to go to
    the
    root of the site and look for the images folder because of
    the leading
    slash)
    <img src="/images/foo.gif" (that's root relative - it
    starts with the root
    of the site)
    <img src="../images/foo.gif" (that's document relative -
    it starts with the
    current location of the document)
    * I preview that page with DW (since I am using temp files,
    DW is kind
    enough to realize that root relative links won't work in a
    preview, and so
    it converts them to document relative links when it builds
    the temporary
    file for the preview) -> <img
    src="../images/foo.gif"> (I'm assuming that
    your document is one level below the root of the site). In
    the preview,
    this page looks fine because the browser has no trouble with
    the document
    relative link - it knows where the file it just opened is,
    and can follow
    the path to the image).
    * I then click on a link in the previewed page to another
    page that also has
    ROOT relative linked images --> <img
    src="/images/bar.gif"> and suddenly
    the image does not load.
    Why? Because when you click away from the temp file DW just
    built for you,
    you have lost the benefit of the automatic conversion that DW
    does with
    root relative links, and the browser looks for this new image
    starting from
    the root of the hard drive, not the root of your site.
    The solution is to not use root relative links, and to change
    all your
    existing ones to document relative.

  • HTML Link in Email template

    We are trying to pull the service ID into an existing link in an email template.
    We want to include the service ID in an email to an existing link that takes the customer to another place.  We want to pull the service.serviceid and place it at the end of the existing link.  Has anyone worked with this at all?
    Thanks - Wendy

    Thanks Craig.  I can pull the service id into the email template using #Service.ServiceID#, but I can't get it to be at the end of the link to the site I want to send the user to.  Example:  I want to send someone to http://test.com/test/default.asp?Service = "this is where I need to pull in the service ID, so that it will be part of the link the customer will select.
