Making a .Mac Site Private Without a Password

I have a website published to .Mac with a fair amount of personal information. Enough that a pedophile could do damage to my young kids, or whatever...
I have always thought I was protected by .Mac's obscure URL that no one would stumble across it, and my searches on Google have always turned up no results, so I thought I was safe (like the default robot.txt file disallowed search engines from archiving my pages)-- until recently. My friend searched my name and came up with my website. I would rather that didn't happen.
I have quite a few readers of my blog from around the world and I think the growth has been organic enough to keep weirdos out-- and would continue to grow that way. I hate to make entering my blog a pain in the neck (as it is to leave comments) by having it password protected.
The inspector palette doesn't have a robot setting. I don't see a way to enter metatags (which would be a pain anyway on every single page), and the preferences doesn't give me this option, either... Am I missing something? Is there a workaround? Any help would be awesome.

I don't see a way to enter metatags (which would be a pain anyway on every single page)
Any changes you make to your html also have to be redone everytime you republish your site.
In any case, robots.txt is not part of the html but a separate file. You could try putting it on your iDisk either inside or outside your sitename folder. I don't know if it would work, and you might also need to replace it every time you republished.

  • HT4798 How to open my Mac book air without my password? I forgot my password

I forgot my password, how can I open my Mac book air?

The section within that link entitled "Resetting the original administrator account password" is probably what you're looking for.

  • How do you wipe a apple mac ibook G4 without the password?

I just bought an apple iBook G4 power PC off ebay & the seller hasn't wiped all their stuff from the hard drive. I don't have the Admin password or install/restore disk.  Can anyone tell me how I can make a clean install and make the ibook mine? Thanks.

You'd have to try and see what recourse you may have through
the eBay rules, since the computer should've had its Mac OS X
install-restore disc set, as part of the license to use the System.
A later retail DVD full install disc such as Leopard 10.5 may do
if you were to see about finding one from an Amazon reseller
or maybe someone who has the correct (retail) either Tiger or
Leopard. The system depends on what the iBook G4 has for
hardware; if the iBook G4 is an early one with smaller than an
867MHz PPC processor, it won't upgrade past Tiger 10.4.11.
Apple had been a spotty source for a generic white label DVD
replacement disc to install in supported PPC Macs, a full version
of Tiger 10.4, on one disc; and another disc, for Leopard 10.5.
The source of these had been AppleCare or Support, not retail.
And some persons at Apple were unable to verify their existence
until actually entering purchase codes into their database, as if
they were invisible, according to feedback from US vintage users
of PowerPC G4/G5 computers that did not have original discs.
So if you can locate a product Serial Number, sometimes in the
battery compartment, and call Apple Support or Applecare to
order a replacement OS X system installer on DVD, you'd need
to supply that serial number in an attempt to find out if they have
anything at all. And, also have a method of payment (a CC.)
Not sure how things differ on the England side of the Atlantic...
Here, on east side of the Pacific, things can be very different, too.
Usually grey-label discs for a specific series build model year
Mac won't do anything if attempts are made to use them in
another different Mac model. And would be an as-shipped OS.
Can't say as I have a workable resolution for your circumstance.
The PowerPC hardware limits you to no later than Leopard 10.5.8
and that should be only if the processor is faster than 867MHz. If
not, then the latest OS X is Tiger 10.4 from DVD, & these systems
get their last update via Software Update online, in a Combo file.
Perhaps you can better identify the computer, and see if a regional
Apple affiliate or specialist has access to a supported OS X installer.
That is the way to perform a complete erase, install, in most models.
Be sure if you buy a system DVD that it is a retail one and not a
disc set from a different or other Mac computer, as they rarely work.
    Good luck !

  • How can I make my iWeb site private?

How can I make my iWeb site private with a password?

The inbuilt facility to do this disappeared with the demise of MobileMe. It is possible: some ISPs offer this facility (GoDaddy is one) so you should start by checking whether yours does.
If not, you can do it yourself provided your ISP allows you to add an .htaccess file to your foldere - not all do. Also it's not entirely straighforward if you are unfamiliar with the techniques involved.
    This page describes the method:

Please note the caveats at the bottom of the page: this isn't a highly secure method and you should not rely on it to protect sensitive information.

  • Making an iweb site for .mac on a computer with no internet connection

    Hi.
I am making an iweb site for publishing to a .mac account on a computer that is supposed to have internet access via airport, but it's not working properly at the moment.
I would really like to transfer the site onto my other machine in my office which has a decent broadband connection (I have iweb installed on there too). Is it possible to transfer a site that is yet to be published from one computer to another?
    regards
    David T

    David,
You might want to try burning your Domain file to a CD or DVD by using http://iWebFAQ.com/iWebBackup.zip and opening the file & Publish from the other computer while effectively backing up your Domain file in the process.

  • Move a site from one Mac to another without losing sites already there

I would like to move a site from one Mac to another without losing the websites that I have already built on the other Mac. Transfering the Domain file is not helping. Is there away to open the new domain file and adding those sites to the domain file associated with this copy of iWeb? I have searched the discussions but am not seeing any clear answers. They all seam to invilve new users or losing the sites already on that mac.

I seem to have solved my own problem. This may help other users. I found a tip and a web page that suggested moving the Domain File from the application support folder to another on the desktop on one of the computers and then putting the 2nd Domain File from the other computer in a separate folder on the desktop. This is because you can not change the name of the Domain File . Then by double clicking the Domain File with the site wanted, iWeb opens with that set of sites.
I started with what was to be the new master Domain File and stated a new site with a blank page. saved, did not publish and closed iWeb. Opened from the other Domain File and then clicked and opened the site and page I wanted, then selected all, copied all and closed iweb. Went back to the master Domain File , opened iWeb using that, went to the blank page and pasted in the page from the other Domain File from the other computer. Saved, closed iWeb and repeated till I had all pages. Changed the names to match the sites and Pages. I did not allow iWeb to publish during this process. Took all of 10 minutes and I now have a Domain File with all the sites in one place. I then copied this file back into its original location in Library/application support/iWeb on both computers. I now have all sites in iWeb on both computers.

  • Difference between .mac and private site uploads

My .mac site is perfect but the same site, when published to a folder and ftp'd to my private domain, has strange problems:
    1. I use the the blog template for art reviews. Each review works fine on the .mac site but when I move around on the private domain site I get a 404 error. By moving around I mean using the "previous" and "next" buttons.
    2. Some of the links from the home page to one of the review pages hasn't worked so I've had to take them off. But they worked on the .mac site and not on the private domain one.
    3. I use the blog template for multiple art reviews, slide shows and press releases - and have the same problem no matter how I do it. And I've tried redoing it over and over and over.
Take a peek and you'll see.
Try the "next" button and see what happens on each of these sites:

Hey, I understand why you asked why I deleted the public_html folder. I've been trying everything because NOTHING works. But I've got everything back in place and now my public_html folder has two items: an index.html file and the folder with all my pages. When I go to that folder on my desktop and click on the index file and then go into my REVIEWS (blog template) section, all the pages and links work.
BUT, when I do it online, I get NOT FOUND errors like this one. Thus my frustration.
    Not Found
The requested URL /RWFSite/Reviews/Entries/2007/3/5“Feelings”_Exhibition_at_Wickiser_Gallery,NYC.html was not found on this server.
Could it be that the page name is the title and it has special characters?
Could it be that the page name is too long?
Could it be that iWeb is not the right product for me?
Also, when this is all fixed, then I have to go into every html page and add keywords and description meta tags because iWeb doesn't seem to enable this feature.
Thanks for any and all help, suggestions or comments.

  • How do i install mac os x on a previously owned macbook without their password?

how do i install mac os x on a previously owned macbook without their password?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • For sites where Firefox remembers the password, can I set it to open the site automatically, without requiring me to click/confirm/submit etc?

I have bookmarked several sites which require a password. Firefox remembers the password ok. When I click on the bookmark, a page comes up with the password request, already filled in, and I have to click again to open the page I'm after.
Can I set it so that the page opens automatically, without having to click on the 'submit' button?

You could try the Secure Login add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4429/
The add-on provides enhancements to the login process, if you have used Opera it is similar to the Opera Wand function.
One feature of the add-on is to provide direct login to any site from the bookmarks by using the "Secure Login Bookmarks" option.

  • My email address was recently hacked and they have changed all my passwords. Is there a way i can delete an ICloud account on my phone, mac and Ipad without putting the password in as i do not know this?

    Hi
My outlook account was recently hacked and they have changed my passwords, secret questions and my information meaning i am unable to access this account. I have the hacked account set up on icloud for all of three apple devices. I have been reading online that to change or delete an account i need to login, or turn find my iphone off which i cannot do without the password!
I would be really grateful if anyone knew a way i could sort this out to fully delete the old icould account.
    Thanks very much!

Contact the Apple account security team for your country and request assistance: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security.  If you can prove your identity to them, they can reset the password and help you regain control of the account.

  • Backing up Ipad without lost Password

Is it possible to backup an Ipad first generation iOS 5.1.1 WITHOUT a password if I have forgotten the password used to do previous backups?  I do not need to do a Restore.  I have tried doing the backup in a computer where I have never backed up this Ipad (there is no previous backup files) and iTunes continues to ask me for the password when I unclick "Ecrypt local password". Thanks

I think your comment is best answered by the second paragraph of the warning in the article I attached above:
"If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device."
You said "... I find odd that I cannot make a backup no longer choosing to use an encryption password."  That does not seem odd to me, and here's why:  At one time, the person making the backups decided they should be encrypted.  Now, that person doesn't recall the password.  Without recalling the password, should they be allowed to simply decide future backups should not be encrypted, even if they do have access to the i-Device whose data is being backed up?  I think in the general case there is at least there is some reason for caution.

Adobe Illustrator CS6 won't open in Mac 10.10 without Java SE 6 Runtime. Where do I get it.
I went to Jave and downloaded the latest version of Java 8 Update 31 for Mac, but it still won't open.

    dchasin,
You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.
The solution was presented by Kals in post #7 here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1637908
    Here are download sites:
    Win:

    Mac:

Some have found that the page may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.
Others have found that it may depend on browser. Specifically, a switch from Safari has solved it in one case.

  • Hi ,I barely got this from USPS ,and it's used ibook G4 ,I don't know a password from there username I couldn't even use it because it already used ?do you how to restore the whole system for iBook G4 ,without the password

Hi ?okay barley got this from USPS but it's in used ,somebody already own this ibook G4 ,I only use it for 1 min on this OS X and then when I try to go any file I have to  type in a password ,but I don't know the password ?do you how to restore everything and restart everything ,without the password?

The seller should have included a bootable OS X system DVD that would work in that computer; preferrably one that matches the OS X installed in the computer when you got it. Have you contacted the seller?
If you can find the serial number and any other model identifier of the iBook portable, you could probably get a Replacement OS X Tiger 10.4 system DVD from Apple for about $20; a white-label disc that should work in an old iBook G4. This should not be an original install-restore disc specific to the iBook, but there may be one available. (Originals shipped with a Mac were gray color and say the computer name, and those discs have a part number related to the Mac models build year, etc they shipped with.) A 'replacement' white disc should work with more than one specific series of Mac that could support the OS X.
As these computers get older and farther away from the date of manufacture, replacement discs or copies of original software kits, no longer made, are harder to come by. However the white label 'replacement' from AppleCare, may be the ticket, if you can order one and if they still have them. And, if it works.
With a system disc, you can erase and install (or secure erase, reformat, & install, then update) a system on the hard disk drive. By doing the secure erase, the Disk Utility will write a pass of zeros over the old content and that can help clear up old issues in a questionable used computer's hard disk drive, but you'd need an OS X install disc. You can call AppleCare or Apple Sales Support (not the main store or main online pages, its not a regular item) and if you are lucky, you may talk to someone who knows these exist. A few ASC discussion threads have mentioned these, and people who bought them posted pictures of the actual discs.
There are some ways to attempt to reset an admin password, usually with the install disc for OS X; but another way using Single-user mode or command-line Terminal, to go into unix and change settings at a level beneath the graphic user interface.

•With an OS X disc, how to reset lost passwords:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1274
You'll have to search and reword for other online ideas.
If you bought the iBook from an auction, suggest they
should include the disc, since it implies a license to
have the system software installed. It is the proof.
The replacement OS X install disc for Tiger or Leopard
(depending on the computer, what it may use best) are
ideas, so ask AppleCare about them. If you can, get
both, so you may have one that does the job.
PS: If someone set an Open Firmware password, that
is another matter to access the locked computer. At a
level of security higher than Admin, near impossible.
Almost as bad as encrypting the hard drive.
    Good luck & happy computing!

You really need the DVD box which also has the serial numbers on the back. If you registered the product you can get the serial numbers by logging-in to My Adobe but that's not much help as only the current version 11 is available for download.
