Making a Presentation using Keynote

Hi there, I am relatively new to the Imac and love using Keynote, I would love to add animation, using a airplane or boat showing it going from one country to another country for my slide show. Where do I find the boat or plane and good quality maps of countries. I appreciate any time that anyone has for me

G'day,
I'm guessing you just watched the Keynote tutorials. You could always browse around in Google Images.

  • Can you run a presentation on a screen using keynote

Does anyone know how to run a presentation using keynote a large projector? If so what do I need to accomplish this for a large meeting?

You need the proper cable to connect to the projection. The digital AV (HDMI) allows charging the iPad and supports mirroring the iPad's screen. There is also the VGA cable that also supports mirroring. There are also component and pmposit but those do not support mirroring and have poorer resolution.

  • IBook disadvantage using Keynote

I am so unhappy because after have been working on my first presentation using Keynote I discovered that it has unavailable its most useful tool "the dual displays" for iBook. Somebody can tell which is the reason? After all, I am working on academia and I will need this tool for my presentation, so, is there any thing to do, and please, something different to buy a Powerbook.......my iBook is almost new!!!

My guess? You might get somewhere complaining that Keynote's box doesn't make this fact clear, but the iBook specs ALWAYS mention that you only get mirroring, same with the iMacs and eMacs, so Apple would probably say that it was your responsibility to check the specs of the iBook when you bought it. This is one of the selling points of the PowerBooks, and Apple purposely makes the ibooks mirror only. Annoying, but that's the way it is. Even now, I tell people to never buy an iBook with the sole purpose of hacking the firmware right out of the box, because it really wasn't meant for it (in Apple's eyes at least).
The coool thing is, all the iBooks 700mhz and up can use the patch (and I think some 600s), and current refurbs are going for like $899. eBay is an even cheaper source. I know that won't help you, but again, the specs on the iBooks are clearly printed, the problem is, most consumers just don't know what the difference is until it's too late, as you've found out.

  • Using presenter notes during a presentation in keynote 6.0

I just downloaded 6.0 and was having trouble figuring out how to display the presenter notes on my macbook pro during a live presentation.  I looked it up on keynote help, which told me that after clicking on the play button I should click on the layout button and choose Presenters Notes. The thing is, when I click the play button, it takes me right into the slideshow & there is no layout button visible.  I don't use Keynote very often; what am I not understanding?

Presenter notes will show up when you connect a second display, and will behave as described by BartlebyScrivener. If you want to see your notes while playing the presentation without a second display, select ¨Rehearse Slideshow¨ from the Play menu. • Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

    Hi Andy,
You can do this reasonably easily.
First up you need to think about how you are going to drive the TV- Your iMac could do it, but a laptop would be easier if you can access one.
Second you need to look at the screen inputs. If it is a flat screen TV it is likely to have at least a VGA connection which you should have a connector to 'out of the box' and it will work much like connecting your mac to a projector would.
If not you'll probably need a connector for your mac that outputs composite (a single RCA connector) or S-Video to connect. You'll need to do this connection and find out the resolution the display supports before the big day (I live in a country with PAL which typically is 720x576). Make the Keynote presso the same resolution and you should be all good. A test drive is essential!
Here's a typical adapter from the Apple Store

Just as a thought- you could just burn a DVD with the images- it's pretty simple to set up (with transitions) a photo library in iDVD, though a little more tricky if you need the images to appear at certain times.

I use Keynote for classroom presentations of historical images. As I show them in class, I identify & explain each image. Later I make the Keynotes available to the students through Dropbox. My question: how do I attach identifying labels to each image in Keynote so the students know what they are looking at?

if its a blank presentation without text placeholders -  click on text tool and type then move text box if required
there are preinstalled templates for text and photos - click on masters in tool bar and select

  • How do you disable pinch to close presentation in Keynote

How do you disable pinch to close presentation in Keynote?
I am using iPad 2's as kiosks at my work and we are using Keynote to display the content. Is there a way to disable pinch to close?

Try a search for Keynote, Kiosk -  you may find some items there.
My guess is that Apple has a few people around that know how to program their in-store iPads to defeat fumbling fingers. I doubt they are willing to share.
To go one step further with the plexiglass cover idea though, if you have interactions needed from customers then consider making all interactions in the same location on the slide - say, the right hand margin, one on top and one bottom - that way you could put finger holes in the plexiglass cover where the touch points are and avoid potential pinches. You would have to rearrange your slide response areas to match, but it is one way (fairly cheap) to get going if you can't find anything in the apps store or on-line. Try it with a mockup piece of cardboard or plastic sheet and see if it might work for you.
    Good Luck.

  • New to apple and wondering if using keynote is easier than power point.

    Hello all,
I have only been using os x for about 6 months, and I was wondering if using keynote is easier than power point? I am in school so I need to know if keynote will save in ppt format. The school that I go to only uses MS office 97 to 2004 format for all docs and power points. Is using keynote that much different?

i find keynote MUCH easier in almost all areas. it did take me a little learning in the beginning. the main thing to know is that apple uses a floating pallet call "inspector" to control just about all the details of the presentation. they also have a "formatting bar" which is conceptually similar to the formatting bars microsoft uses in the previous versions of office (font size, etc...).
the basic entry for slides is the same, where one just types into the fields on the slides. what i find much better is the control i have in the "inspector" to fine tune anything. i've gotten completely dependent on keynotes "staging" which is how one makes the slides animate. if i have a series of bullets and a diagram, i use the staging to get the diagram to be revealed in stages and to get the bullets appear one at a time in sync with the diagram i'm explaining. nothing is more boring for an audience to have someone just stand up, thru up a slide with 100 words and read the text bullets.
i find keynote to be much easier to develop diagrams or to copy and paste in a PDF picture. then add the staging effects i need to develop the story to explain the diagram or picture. it does take a little learning how to do it the first couple times. but the interface is consistent and it's not hard to learn it.
the only aspect i find a little easier in powerpoint is the indenting style, which is controlled in one of the editing buttons in office 11 and before. keynote controls the indenting from the "inspector" instead of having a little button in the formatting bar. but in every other way, i find keynote to be MUCH easier to use. and it has other features that powerpoint doesn't have. plus iwork is very inexpensive compared to microsoft office. finally, if you are near an apple store, they have free seminars on iWork fairly often. the 1st time i used keynote, i went to the apple store workshop and got a few answers. just see how easy it is to get person to person help for microsoft office...
the only other game in town are the various releases of the open source programs, "open office" and "neo office". they are free, also read and write ppt files, but are a little harder to use than keynote and don't have as many features.
    anyway, that's my experience.
    good luck!

  • Using Keynote and iPhoto slideshow together

    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz
Display: 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200)
    Software: OSX 10.4.9, Keynote 2, iPhoto 6
Hi everyone! Above are the specs for the project I'm working on and here's the problem I'm having:
I am trying to create a makeshift kiosk display for an upcoming event using slides in Keynote and a picture slideshow in iPhoto. I'm planning on running it off my Powerbook to my 23" Cinema Display.
I'm using Keynote for the presentation content because of the motion effects (transitions, build-ins, etc.) and iPhoto for the image slideshow because of the Ken Burns effect (which I don't believe Keynote has). Both look great running seperately, however when this is being displayed at the show, I'll need both to run back to back automatically, without having to manually switch back and forth between applications.
I have both the Keynote presentation and the iPhoto slideshow displaying at 1920x1200. I've tried exporting the iPhoto slideshow to Quicktime, but it won't export any higher than 640x480. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work? I won't be able to operate the computer when this is running, so I really need to find a way to make everything run seamlessly while keeping the high resolution of the 1920x1200 monitor.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Steve
    PB 12" 1.5ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

iMovie is a DV editing app and the final results would still make a 640X480 file.
I would change a few things to make everything work together:
First is the display resolution. You want the 23 inches to be used so just reduce the display preferences to try and match your QuickTime file. 800X600 sounds about right but larger will still work as H.264 Video scales up in size very nicely.
This would force you to "reduce" the dimensions of the Keynote file but that shouldn't be much of an issue.
QuickTime Pro could also be used to "change" the dimensions of the 640X480 file. Again, H.264 scales up in size and would look pretty good at even double size.
The goal is to have them both at the same dimension and then match the monitor resolution.
Easier to change the display than the files.

  • Powerpoint on the iPad using Keynote - Not Getting it

This issue may cement my iPad's role as expensive paperweight.
I have a number of PowerPoint presentations, many of which contain video.  These presentations are for teaching physicians in radiology and are essential.
The first part of my problem is opening these presentations on my iPad.  On the advice of other iPad users in my department, I've installed Keynote and I've copied a couple of presentations onto my iPad using iTunes.  When I open these presentations in Keynote, however, I get a message that movies are not supported and were removed.  The moves are embedded AVI's in the original PowerPoint presentations.
To test if there was a codec/format issue, I went back to the original presentation on my PC and converted the videos to mp4.  I embedded them into a new presentation with only one slide and synced that to my ipad.  Same result.  Movies not supported and were removed.
So, my first question is this: Can Keynote for iPad play video in a presentation under ANY circumstance?
Next, if it can play video, is there some sort of trick or conversion step I need to go through to get my PPT presentations to play in Keynote on my iPad?  (If there is, I'm wondering what the point will be.  I have a lot of presentations for teaching, some of them with over 100 slides.  Yes, 100 slides.  And a lot of video clips.  They're quite large and I have no desire to essentially rebuild them or try crunching them through a lengthy conversion process.)
Is there something else beside Keynote that I should be using?  DocsToGo maybe?
I don't have a MAC and don't want one.  The iPad is the only Apple product I own and, so far, I can't find a use for it.  This is pretty much the last chance for it to be useful to me at all.  I do think it's a lovely looking device, but I'm not what anyone would call a media consumer and that seems to be what the iPad was designed for.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Information obtained from a product review on Amazon;
There are a few details you need to know to import media files this way.
1). Create a folder on any SD card and name that folder "DCIM".
2). Place media files into the DCIM folder.
3). Important: The media file names have to be exactly 8 characters long (no more, no less), or the iPad will not see them.
    Examples: 8letters.mp3, 8numbers.jpg, 8Numbers.mp4, TheBirds.mp4, Img_9001.bmp.
Those are really the main details, but here are a few more:
When you insert the Card Reader (one of two devices in the kit) into the iPad, with an SD card in it, in a moment the iPad screen will show thumbnails of all the media files on the card.
You can import some or all into the iPad. You cannot play media files from the card, you must first import them. To select some media files, just touch them to highlight them and choose "Import". Or, you can select "Import All".
The iPad will ask if you want to Keep or Delete (on the card). Be careful to select Keep (in most cases).
Valid video files need to be in the ".MP4" format, version H.264. Or convert them to that format using almost any conversion program (Freemake.com - has all current iPad video formats).
NOTE: the media files are imported into the "Photo" section of your iPad. Even the MP3's and Videos. So, to watch a movie, for example, select the Photo icon, not the Video icon on your screen (it won't be in the Video section).
AND, you can delete any media files after playing them. That way, you can, for example, load a movie or two into the iPad, watch, then delete to make room for others.
When I first tried to import the media files, I knew about the DCIM folder (it's the same as your camera would create), but the 8 character requirement I hadn't known. Only one media file showed up.
Remember, there is nothing magical about how your camera puts files on an SD card. The Camera Connection Kit Card Reader doesn't know the difference (there isn't one) and does not care, so long as it meets the requirements listed above.

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • How do I change the theme of a custom theme presentation in Keynote?

How do I change the theme of a custom theme presentation in Keynote?
I have a beautiful preso that my designer created. I want to use the copy in those slides with a different theme more conducive to my audience. And use only some of the slides (I know how to do that part).
    Thanks!

    merv,
A rather simple way, regardless of version, may be to:
    1) Select everything and scale down;
    2) In the Select dropdown click Object, then Text Objects, then Object>Transform>Transform Each and scale up to the original size or to a(nother) suitable one.

Working at a newspaper, I'm having difficulty making a presentation made in Indesign and must be transformed in an application for Ipad / IOs.
That occurs in DPS consgigo generate the file .ipa put it nsao install on Device, getting the message "installing" all the time.
If I get the zip file and the xml of the person who generated the folios, as indicating that the DPS?
    grateful

In fact, it is listed in the devices profile file. The problem I see is the steps to production of an APP.
    Made as follows:
My friend created the folios in InDesign (with your login) on another machine. Provided in a shared folder.
I already have the contents of the application. From here, I believe he should publish through the Folio Producer and then I create the Application Builder IOs in DPS app in Title citing the Login ID he used to publish the content.
Hence, I believe that would only make the Download Device and see install  APP.
    Is this the correct sequence?
    Please.
