Making a Ringtone

Good Morning. I'm trying to make a ringtone for my wife's new iPhone. I've downloaded the iTunes help explanation and tried to follow the instructions. Ringtones is checked under General preferences. But when I click on the little bell icon, I just get the "Learn More about Ringtones" page. If I highlight the song I want to use, Ringtones under Store isn't active. I've downloaded the song I want to use, and can then access the Ringtone Editor, but then it appears I'm going to have to buy the song a second time in order to create a ringtone. What's the secret step I'm missing for activating the Create Ringtone function under Store? Appreciate any help you can provide.

Why pay for the song and then pay again to use a portion as a Ringtone?
Because the record companies demand a separate payment to use the track as a ringtone. The consider the right to listen to a track and the right to use it as a ringtone to be two separate rights requiring two separate payments.
If that was the case, wouldn't the Help instructions clearly say ...
It sure could be more explicit, but it does say "If you don't see the bell column in your iTunes library" which implies that one would have to have purchased the track for it to appear in your library. It's not explicitly clear, though, granted.
Anyway, you do have to buy the track first.
Regards.

  • Cant see the buy button in itunes when making a ringtone???

When I am in iTunes, making a ringtone, the bottom right portion of my iTunes screen cuts off at the button that says "Ca" - I cant see or get to the right of that button (which I assume says cancel) and I am unable to create ringtones for my iPhone. I have tried everything from resizing the window to uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling. It is always the same and very frustrating. Can anyone help?

    Try increasing your screen resolution.

  • Help Making a Ringtone!

    Hi,
I can't seem to make any ringtones for more than the first 15 seconds of a song in garageband. I know the songs I am trying to use are unprotected because they are recordings of me playing jazz and we didn't protect them, they are in mp3 format. But I can't get mp3 mp4a or AAc format to play more than the first 15 secs. I tried tuneclone, mp3 converter and everything. All i want to do is create a ringtone of a song. please help.

You have to create the ringtone.
There are many free ways to do this.  Google will find them.

  • Purchased list disappears, re-authorize, making first ringtone

This question really could fit under several categories...
I have an iPhone, and iTunes on Vista version 7.4.1. I haven't done any kinds of hacks or workarounds or anything non-apple to my app or my phone.
During trying to make my first ringtone last night, I purchased the tone. When trying to sync it with the phone, I was told "not authorized to play this song on this computer." I had to re-authorize my PC. After re-authorizing, all my purchased stuff still plays.
How can I re-gather anything that was "purchased" into the purchased list? I don't see a category in making playlists for "something purchased".
Not to mention why it disappeared....?
    Thanks for any help!

SOLVED my own problem. To re-created the purchase list:
    1. Right click the title bar (name, time, artist, etc.)
    2. Choose a new column when right clicking called "KIND"
    3. Kind will give a column with contents like MP3, Protected AAC, etc.
    4. Sort by type. Everything type of Protected AAC is what you've purchased most likely, depending on your import settings.
Fixed my problem! All 187 items back on the list!

  • Making created ringtones actual ringtones?

So I downloaded the free Ringtones App and created several ringtones. Then I followed the tutorial on how to make them actual ringtones and the ringtones tab did not appear after I saved the ringtone to my desktop then double clicked it and had it play in iTunes. Then I went preferences> general> and made sure the Ringtones box was checked. A tab appeared on the left sidebar, but when I actually click on the iPhone, all that shows up is Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, and Photos. When I click on the  tab in the sidebar, a page opens, but there is nothing there. Any suggestions?

My boy is home from school so it's game time on my phone and won't get a look in till he's had enough or it rings now, but this is the solution below I'm sure....at least try it as we can rule out if doesn't work

Go into your iTunes preferences, and make sure you are using the AAC encoder via the ''import setting'' button. You can double-check this by going to “Advanced”, then “Importing”. Now, browse to the song you want to use to create your ringtone. Right click on the file, and choose “Get Info”, then “Options”. Under the Options tab, select te start time and stop time, to create a 30 second clip. Once your 30 second clip is selected, right-click the song and choose “Convert Selection to AAC”.
Once the conversion is completed, you will get a 30 second song of the same name. At this point, you can edit the original file back to its normal length. Now, browse to your iTunes music folder. You should find the new clip in the same folder the full-length song is in. Notice that the clip has an extension of .m4a. Simply rename the extension to .m4r, then select it. It will automatically be added as a ringtone in your iTunes library.

  • Making Lumia ringtones

To start off, the 40 second / 1 MB limit is ridiculous. Whoever decided on it, should be fired. How can Lumia play songs that are longer than that but enforces the limitation on ringtones?
Anyway, how can I make ringtones. I've read everything, and it seems to boil down to
    (1) learn to use a professional sound editor, edit your music, produce the song in MP3 or WAV format of the appropriate sound quality,  and after all this...)
    2) switch the Genre to "ringtone". Simple!
I'm having a bit of problems with step 1 here. Could somebody please provide a simple walkthrough here with an application?
Given the ridiculous ringtone length and filesize limitations, why does Nokia not provide a ringtone maker? You would simply choose the sound file and say "Save copy as a ringtone", at which point the file would be cut to 40 seconds maximum and saved in a compatible format of the maximum allowed size, and the Genre would be automatically set to "Ringtone". Would this make too much sense?
Maybe Nokia just wants us all to revert back to Nokia Tune for our ringtones after all this personalised nonsense. Needless to say, given this one limitation - which I would never have thought of before buying this Lumia 900 - and the fact that music is a big part of my personality, the Lumia 900 is a useless piece of junk that will embarrass me every time it starts playing one of its standard ringtones.

    Hi roope70,
    Thanks for your feedback.
While I can see how you would ask why these limitations in general it seems safe to assume a ringtone will sound for less than 40 seconds before you pick up, so having longer ringtones would not have any practical use and the track(s) would only take up additional space.
Creating a ringtone is very easy, you can use the free app 'Ringtone Factory' to select and cut the section you want to use. Besides this app you will find many similar apps in Marketplace.
    Hope this helps,

  • Ok I've seemed to follow the steps in making custom Ringtones but....

I have followed all of the steps correctly from a previous post, and created a few ringtones in itunes, but when I try to sync, they don't show up on my phone. I tried deleting the .m4a file and it still did not show. Someone had mentioned that the ringtone will appear in the "Custom" section...where exactly is this section on the iphone?

Have you tried the easy way Apple designed through iTunes?

  • Making a ringtone with itunes

Having a problem when trying to make a ringtone with the songs in my itunes music library. When I click on the bell next to the title the ringtone page starts to come up. But then it asks that I log into itunes first. So my Mac ID is highlighted and it asks for my password. I type in my password and it doesn't work. I've tried changing it and still won't let me get into the ringtone design page for that particular song. Ideas?

I click on a song I have purchased from the Itunes store....I click the bell (or click store, create ringtone), it pulls up the editor....I select 30 secs of the song in a proper spot, I check the spacing and preview it, then I click "Buy", it asks to confirm (I am signed in).....then it acts like it is purchasing from Itunes by showing at the top status bar.............
Never downloads, never purchases, store credit doesnt go down, nowhere to be found (under library, ringtones)

  • Making Personal Ringtones

I have QuickTime Pro and have created m4a's from MP3's so that I can download from internet to my phone in the past. Here's the process I go through and where I'm having problems... I click on file and then 'export' from QuickTime. Then I pick the song I've already condensed and previously saved to my desktop. I then select "Movie to MPEG-4". After that I go to the 'options' page and click on the drop down menu so that I can pick 'audio' not video. After I do this new options present themselves but they are all greyed out and untouchable (these options are Audio Format, Data Rate, Channels, Output Sample Rate, and Encoding Quality). I know what I want all of these options to be, but I can't click on them... Can anyone help me out?!

Backing up your photos to iPhoto on the Mac isn't "as a precaution": it should be totally normal behaviour. You wouldn't use a digital camera as the permanent and only location of your photos, so why would you treat the digital camera in your phone any differently?
