Making a shorter video from a long one

Hello,
I have a 30 min. project completed but I want to have a shorter version for a different audience. How can I just pull the most important clips from the 30 min. video to make a video that is about 15min. long without starting the editing process from scratch?

Yes, I think so. What you call "tracks" will be called "sequences" by FCE. Select each sequence in the timeline in order and for each do File > Export > (normally as "As QuickTime"). You will get a QT movie (.mov) of each track/sequence which you could distribute as is or put into DVD Studio Pro, or Toast, to burn a multi-track DVD.

Making a short Intro from a longer track?

Hey guys
I'm pretty new to video editing and I need a short intro for a project I am working on. I have a theme track which goes with the video, but I need to cut off the begining of the track at about 4secs and find a way to end it without just fading out. It's a punchy start and I'm wondering if there is something I can do in SB CS4?
I'm thinking something on the lines of a kind of prolonged effect which sustains the end which can then be faded out. Like holding the last note and adding an effect to it.
Sorry if I'm not explaining this well. As I say, I am new to this. Please tell me if I can give any more info?
This is the first 7secs of the track and I'm thinking something needs to happen about 4.5 secs.

Works like a dream. But I'm a bit blocked here. It creates a 'score' in a separate window. Now is there a way I can translate this 'score' into midi notes I can then send to an instrument? Or where you meaning that having the 'score' now, I can use it to play out the midi notes? Which is cool. But even though I can write music quite efficiently (have scored for symphonies), the irony is that I read very poorly for performing (humiliating).
Is the above what you meant, or is there a way to transform the score now into midi notes. I'm trying to figure it out. Not having instant luck.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

IMovie will only import short videos from my camera.

I recently bought a Sony CyberShot DSC-HX50 camera. I filled one 8 GB memory card and have half-filled a 16 GB card (I was overseas and couldn't download photos to my MacBook Pro, which was at home). I have the most recent version of iMovie but this is the first time I've used it. My MacBook has a new solid-state hard drive and plenty of memory.
iMovie does not "see" ANY of the videos on the 8 GB card; the videos are all either about one, three, or seven minutes long. On the 16 GB card, it only "sees" the videos that are under one minute. I have imported those videos to iMovie, but I can't get it to "see" the other, longer ones. I've tried unplugging and replugging the camera cable, removing and replacing the memory card, turning the camera on and off, and shutting off and restarting iMovie. I've gone through all of the options in the toolbar and haven't found the answer, and the "help" option isn't helpful at all. The videos play fine on the camera screen.
All iMovie does when I try to "import from camera" from the 8 GB card is show the little icons that look like a piece of old-fashioned camera film; no indication at all that there are any videos on the camera card. When I try to import from the 16 GB card, iMovie just shows the three short videos and no indication that the longer ones exist.
Interestingly, iPhoto can "see" the same movies iMovie can. I understand iPhoto is not set up to download longer movies (although it has downloaded movies from my iPod that are several minutes long). But I have no idea why iMovie isn't cooperating.

OK thanks. I downloaded the Simple Transfer app but not too sure how to use it to transfer pics back to PC. It asked me to go to a website but I couldn't get it to transfer anything - it seemed to only want to transfer from my PC to the Ipad and not the other way around.
I'm very new to apple products so big learning curve for me.
Any suggestions?

Synching short videos from a desktop to an iPad

I have an iPad two. When I sync my photos from an album on my desktop, the videos in the album do not transfer to my iPad. How do I make those videos, which are short videos I shot from my camera and stored on my computer, to transfer to my iPad?

what format are they? do you see them in iTunes?
You have to import those videos into iTunes, then attach your ipad and choose which videos you want to sync, then do your sync.

How do I best transfer over 3,000 photos and 125 short videos from my iPad Mini 2 (iOS 8) in "Photos" to my IMac without uploading them to iCloud or any wireless net service (I wish to directly transfer the files via a USB cable, not AirDrop)?

Creating Short Videos From Longer Main Video

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 4. I have old family videos on a DVD (each one is 30 minutes long). I want to edit the 30 minute video into smaller 5-7 minute video segments. Then I want to create a separate video file for YouTube from each segment. Is there a way to do that within Elements 4 without disgarding the other video segments each time? Whenever I divide up the video into segments, Elements wants to create the output video using ALL of the segments rather than just one of them. Thanks

Make sure that you're using a project preset for DVD and hard drive camcorders.
Import your DVD video into your project and place it on the timeline.
Then set the Work Area Bar over the segment you want to output and go to Share/Personal Computer/WMV. Before you output your video, check the box that says Share Work Area Bar only.
Then move the Work Area Bar so that it is over the next segment, etc.

How can I export many short videos from one project?

We had an awards ceremony, and the entirety of the program was filmed and is now saved on my computer as one large, continuous file. I would like to edit it down to only the acceptance speechers (there are about 10 or so) and export them to MPEGs to share online. Is there a way I can do this from within one project or do I need to start over every time, editing each speech out individually and then exporting?

This involves trimming of the source (in Project Media area) in Preview Windows with the program's Set In Set Out points and the saving the trims as subclips in the Project Media and/or trims dragged to the Timeline.

Downloading music and videos from more than one iTunes account

We have ipads for our two granddaughters and each has an itunes account and we give them allowances and gifts now and then to buy videos music and apps.
They have each bought more stuff than they can fit on their ipad. I bought an external hard drive from Seagate to which I can store their music and videos. They can access this drive and the content on it through a LAN the drive sets up so their ipads can communicate with it when they are away from a network and have no access to iCloud.
When I logged into one of their accounts to download content, I got a message that said my computer was registered to a specific itunes account and that if I downloaded content from another account I would not be able to download any content from any other account for 90 days.
What gives. This would mean if one of them downloaded their content, the other wouldn't be able to download anything for 90 days and vice versa. This makes no sense.
What am I doing wrong and how do I deal with this situation?
I spoke with an Applecare person about this and they said yeah, this is the way it is set up. I asked "Why?" because it didn't make any sense and they tried to put me through to an iTunes "specialist" to explain it. I got the "specialist" but he had no idea what I was talking about and went to find out what was going on. He took so long to try to find out that I ended up losing the connection. Thought I would ask this forum.
Can anyone help me. This is a major glitch I don't know how to deal with.

I am a bit confused and have heard different things from different second tier Apple support folks.
When you and your wife do as you describe are you actually downloading your content to your computer or just accessing it from Apple's servers via your iTunes software?
What I am trying to do is to download it from the server to my computer. You do this from within the iTunes store by clicking in the little iClound icon next to the item or telling the store to download all of it.
When I do this from one account, I am locked out of doing it from any other account for 90 days.
I'm looking forward to your account as I have Apple "experts" seem pretty much split 50-50 as to whether this is supposed to happen. So far, my experience is that on a given computer, no matter how many user accounts you have, if you download content from an iTunes account, content cannot be downloaded on that computer frm any other iTunes account for 90 days.
This, of course is not a problem if you are logged onto the internet. However, if you are not logged onto the internet, you cannot listen to any music you have not downloaded.
It is the second condition for my two grandaughters that I am trying to address.

I have an iPhone4s and I'm trying to download a short video from my email that I made in windows movie maker to my camera roll. It's 15 seconds. I've tried the wmv format and also the mp4 format. There is no option to save it to my camera roll.

Once I email the video to myself and open it on my phone, there is no option to save it to my camera roll. I've tried holding the link (which gives me the options: open, add to reading list, or copy), changing the format from wmv to mp4, tapping on the arrow in the top right (options: reply, forward), opening the video then tapping arrow (open page in safari?), and selling my soul to the devil. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Problem solved. It wasn't working in gmail so I used the default mail app and it worked..after hours of searching for a phantom solution.

Your basic issue is that most email accounts will not let you send attachments greater than 10 to 20 MB, so your goal is to create a movie of less than that size. You may well know your own ISP's restrictions but you are probably unaware of your recipients ISP's restrictions, so you may need to aim at around 5 MB to be on the safe side.
It really depends on the length of your movie as to how small you can make it with various settings, but you might want to try exporting it to 3GPP format.
I usually upload video to an online storage site, (I use my idisk, but you tube is free) and then email the link to the recipient instead of the video itself.

How do you combine videos from different cameras

I would like to be able to combine video clips taken of the same event with different cameras in such a way that they all share the same audio.
I have recorded my daughter's entire theater play with a camera in the back of the hall connected directly to the theater's audio equipment. Thus, I have the entire audio in high quality in one huge clip. Then I and a couple of other parents have recorded the play with a number of additional cameras. I would now like to put together a project with video clips from the other cameras using the audio of the first. Obviously, the timing is critical here.
How can I replace part of just the video of a clip with the video of another clip without affecting the audio and making sure that the part that I replace is of the exact same length as the part I insert? How can I then finetune the location of the replacing part so that it fits to the audio?

This has been quite an experience and wasn't as easy as I had hoped. May I add two additional hints in the hopes that someone else will find them useful:
* When taping an event with several cameras make sure that all cameras are set to the same time. This makes iMovie sort them in roughly the right order and makes it much easier to find the clips you want.
* When trying to overlay one short clip over another longer one (using the audio of the longer clip) it is helpful to have several extra frames on the left and right of the clip. With the "Trim" menu item one can then more precisely determine exactly which part of the clip to insert. With the Shift-Arrow Keys one can then easily shift the entire clip by individual frames without changing the length of the clip.

I don't know if the topic still matters, but as I took advantage from the information in the preview posts, I decided to give my share.
I successfully ran three webcameras at the same time in a Linux machine with JMF.
The two main issues are:
1. It is necessary to run the binary "jmfregistry" ($JMFHOME/bin/jmfregistry) to detect the cameras every time a new one is added to the system. (Remember to run the binary with a user with write privileges on the registry file ($JMFHOME/lig/jmf.properties)).
2. It is mandatory to plug each camera in a different usb bus. In my case, the PC I was using had three accessible two-ports buses, two in the rear and one in the front of the box. If we try to use two cameras in the same bus, one of them won't work or the detecting procedure in the "jmfregistry" program will hang.

Maybe the speed of your internet connection has some bearing on it?
But you could give this a try - reset Safari and see if that helps at all.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
