Making a slide show from a CD

I have burned a CD from an iPhoto album (iPhoto 4) and have loaded it onto my new laptop (10.4.5 and iPhoto 6.0.2) and want to view it as a slide show but seem unable to do so. It opens into iPhoto but the slide show is grayed out.

Hi Don,
You have to import the photos into your current library first, then do an on the fly slideshow or permanent slideshow.
To import:
Select the album, select all in the album
drag to your library in the source column to import

  • Slide show from CD?

Is there a way to play a slide show from a CD of pictures (from someone else's camera) without loading them all onto iPhoto? Thanks.

    Shelly:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes there is. See this screenshot video showing how to do it from a folder on the desktop. It's exactly the same from a CD but slower. Select all of the photos on the CD and do a Control-click to bring up the contextual menu. There select the slideshow option.
Opps. That may be a Tiger only option. I'm not sure. You'll have to check it out.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Making A Slide Show To Burn To A DVD

His I just started using photshop elemnents 13 from a previous 11 version.
In the past I picked some 300 slides to make a slide show with music and then exported it to a WMV and then imported the WMV into premiere elements and burned a DVD. In phtoshop elements when I selected my slide and created a slide show I could choose how many seconds each slide, the color of the borders, the manner in which slide changed and I used random.
You could then do zoom in or out, make extra slide with information, add music and then save and export to a WMV and then import that into premiere elements and then burn a DVD.
    Help
    Tom Fitch

Reason I thought PSE4 would burn to a DVD is, there is a button in the slide show screen that says "burn to DVD" in the PSE4 book we were reading.
If Premiere Elements 2 were also installed with Photoshop Elements 4, then it was possible to burn to DVD from the PSE 4 slide show editor by using Premiere Elements 2.   Not all writing on that workflow made it obvious that the Premiere Elements software was required.
Would I be better off getting a different program for making slide shows? The pictures I'm trying to make into a slide show are from a 90th birthday party I shoot over the weekend and want to give out copies of a DVD to the guest.
    Option 1
If you have already made a slide show in the Photoshop Elements slide show editor, then you might as well do some investigation of the alternatives.
-- What Windows operating system are you running ? If it includes Windows DVD Maker, then I would give that a try. Write your output of the slide show from PSE to a File - WMV - with Size of DVD,NTSC (or DVD,PAL if your TV is PAL format).  Then use that WMV file as input to Windows DVD Maker.
-- If you don't have Windows DVD Maker then you could investigate whatever DVD software came with your PC.
FYI - One warning about the photo files that you use in that PSE slide show. If you use hundreds of high resolution photo files, then PSE can have problems. If your output will NOT be High Def (and yours probably will not be since you mentioned a DVD) then "downsizing" the photo files to approx 1000x 750 pixels will decrease the probablility of your having problems with the slide show.
    Option 2
If you have not yet started the PSE slide show, then you might consider a program that many people like for slide shows ----- ProShow Gold from Photodex. It does have a trial.

  • **Adding different text to each photo before making a slide show.

And the top of the day to you,
Is there a way to add different text to each photo before making a slide show? I know you can do this in PS4 but it is not very easy. Any ideas?

Use the Caption metadata to add slide text then click the ABC icon in the slideshow module, followed by clicking the up/down icon, then choose Edit. Insert the Caption option from the IPTC Data box.

  • A How To: Create a Widescreen High Definition Slide Show from the Organizer

[EDIT] I just tried another one and, weirdly, that produced an output with black bars around all four sides! So maybe this 'how to' is not 100%.  I have considered deleting the post altogether but, as it does still produce a superior slideshow quality file than the standard ones provided with Elements,  I've decided to leave it with this edit added at the top for additional info.[END_EDIT]
In answering a question in another forum I found a nice quick way to create proper widescreen high definition slide shows from just the Elements Organizer. Apologies if this is 'old news' to readers, but I've not seen this described elsewhere so I thought I'd share it.
The Organizer Slide Show creator, if not wanting to edit in PRE, provides a small set of Windows Media Player profiles to create .wmv files. But the best of these goes only to 1024x768 (a 4:3 monitor resolution setting). I've noticed, but never paid much attention to, that at the bottom of the Slide Size box there is a 'Browse for more' option that lets you search for additional Windows Media Encoder profiles. Investigation showed me that I can download the Windows Media Encoder software from Microsoft and create my own profiles. But even further investigation showed  me that someone had already done this! I've tested their full HD profile and it works just fine (1920x1080).
So if you are just after a straightforward slide show (i.e. not needing PRE features) but want it displayed on your Full HD TV set here is what you do:
Download the HD Profiles from http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/236895-hd-profiles-for-windows-movie-maker/. There's also a couple of useful SD sizes there as well. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Create your slide show in the Organizer. Obviously use appropriately sized images for HD. There's little point outputting an HD wmv file using low resolution and/or 4:3 aspect ratio images.
Save and Output your slide show.
In the output dialog ('Save As a File') scroll down to the bottom of Slide Size and select 'Browse for more ...'.
Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
Click OK and your Widescreen HD .wmv file is prepared.
Here's a Gspot analysis of my test output file. As you can see it is an HD file with a 16:9, square pixel, aspect ratio.
    Ta Da!

You did not mention a specific Premiere Elements Elements Organizer combo for this, so for now I will address this from the version 11, not Windows Movie Maker, perspective if I need to get version specific.
    .prx
The Browse for More is a well known route and does offer at least one Adobe profile for 1280 x 720 16:9. I am not sure where you came up with the lesser resolution,1024 x 768 that you mentioned. The Windows Media profiles have existed for several versions of Elements Organizer. Those Adobe ones that you do not see under Output Save As A File Movie (.wmv), can be found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path
    Local Disc C
    Profile Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Elements 11 Organizer
    Assets
    Locale
    en_US
    tv_profiles
in the tv_profiles Folder are included the .prx files
    .....10. 640 x 480 Enhanced Definitions
    .....12. 852 x 480 Widescreen Enhanced Definition
    .....14 1280 x 720 Widescreen High Definition
A homemade 1920 x 1080 16:9 30 frames per second .prx has long been sought but not that easily produced by many using with the Windows Media Encoder Editor. Apparently you have found one online, and it does get accepted into the Premiere Elements 11 Browse for More choices. And, if you do a gspot readout for the wmv output from Elements Organizer 11, it will display all the "right" properties that you hoped for and that are shown in your screenshot.
The bottom line, why bother with the wmv slideshow? If you take your original photos and size them for 1920 x 1080 16:9, use them in the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor (Crops used in preferences), use the Edit with Premiere Elements Editor command, what you get in Premiere Elements 11 is full and good in all regard. Have you tried it?
I can see your interest if this is HD going to HD (AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, but I do not see this for an Elements Organizer Slideshow that is going to DVD-VIDEO widescreen.
    More later.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

When trying to add music to a slide show from my PC to TV through Apple Tv the photos are fine but I get an error message that says the music cannot be downloaded.

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive.  If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down.  You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes.  Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked.  You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library.  iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
    Shouldn't have any more problems...

I have 15000 photos in my 1Phooto library in 58 events. I have also made 27 slide shows from some of these events. When opening iPhoto, the photoscome up slmost instantly but the side bar seems to take forever to come up.  Is there s limit to the amount of photos yu can have or to the amount if items in the side bar?

Try this basic troubleshooting technique:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - reboot
4 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

    Ways to share photos
Using iPhoto on your device, you can share your photos in many ways:
    Send photos to other devices
Beam photos, albums, events, journals, and slideshows (send wirelessly) from your device to another iOS device with iPhoto installed. Beaming shares photos in full resolution.
If you have a device that supports AirDrop, you can send photos wirelessly to other iOS devices that use AirDrop. You can use AirDrop to share photos, albums, events, journals, and slideshows. AirDrop shares photos in full resolution.
If you have an iCloud account and you’ve set up My Photo Stream, photos you save to the Camera Roll are sent to all of your devices.
Use photos in other apps on your device
Send your photos to other apps installed on your device, including iMovie and other iPhoto-supported apps.
Use your photos in any app by saving them to the Camera Roll.
    Send photos to your computer
Import photos directly into iPhoto or Aperture on your computer.
Save photos to your computer using iTunes.
    Share photos on the web
Post photos to your Twitter, Flickr, or Facebook accounts directly from iPhoto. You can add comments when you post photos using iPhoto.
Create a web journal with your photos and publish your journal as a webpage using your iCloud account.
Create a slideshow with your photos and publish your sllideshow as a webpage using your iCloud account.
    Email, display, and print photos
Send an email with your photos.
Share photos using the Messages app on your device.
Present your photos as a slideshow with music and transition effects.
View photos on an external display using an HDMI cable adapter or on a TV using AirPlay and Apple TV.
Print photos from your device to a printer that supports AirPrint. Tap > Print and select a printer.
Create books of your photos and order professionally printed and bound copies of them.
Order professional-quality prints, and have them delivered to an address you specify.

  • Slide Show from iPhoto to iDVD

How do I transfer a slide show from iPhoto to iDVD? I like the effects in the show make in iPhoto, and I don't see anything comparable in iDVD. Thanks.

Export the slideshow to QT and then add the QT movie file to an iDVD slideshow. This will scale the movie file to the TV safe area like it does with still photos avoiding the approx. 10% image loss due to TV overscan on older TV set.
Another slideshow application to consider is PhotoPresenter which offers over 25 animated themes, some of which are demostrated here.
