Making a slide show with iPhoto

How do I control the speed of my slideshow? I want to change each slide individually, myself, without the computer automatically changing each slide?

With iMovie you can have different transitions (22 to choose from) in the same movie/slideshow, a variety of titles, subtitles and animated titles, special effects and the same themes as in iPhoto. In iPhoto there's only one transition per slideshow, only simple photo titles or comments can be displayed in one corner.
You can import photos into iMovie via the Media Browser the same as you would select an album in iPhoto to create a slideshow. Take a set of about 20 photos and try creating a slideshow in each app to see which you like best.

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • FCP slide show with iPHOTO images

can I import an album from iPHOTO in my FCP project so I can create a slide show with FCP?
Or do I need to export the album to a folder and then import the folder in my project bin?
    Thanks.

You need to import the photos into FCP then edit your slide show there.

  • Making a Slide show with Video, Pictures, and Music

    Hi,
I'm putting together a slide show with music containing music, narration, pictures and video shot from different cameras…would like to export in the best quality i can…
    What formats:
    o Pictures
    o Video
    o Audio
    o Narration
    along with:
    Codecs
    Compressions
    Are best used with FCE?

Thanks very much for your response...one of the cameras used was a Sony HDV U1000...I believe it was shot 1080i..couldn't tell you what other cameras were, but I'm pretty sure they weren't HD cameras...just trying to help a buddy edit his project, but it seems the formats are all over the place....Trying to convert the sources so we can output a good product...I would probably use iDVD to make the DVD...I've made some videos for another friend using my Sony VX2100 and they look awesome...
Thanks again for your help, it's very appreciated!

  • Cannot export slide shows with iPhoto 9.6 and OS 10.10

    Hallo!
I upgraded to Yosemite last Friday. Everything seems to work fine only iPhoto 9.6 makes some troubles. I cannot export any slide shows. When I click on "export" the small window opens as always before, the first pic is shown in this window, after that the window disappears and nothing else happens. iPhoto doesn't crash, but it also doesn't export any slide shows.
Does anyone have an idea what the reason could be?
Thanks and best regards from Klosterneuburg/Austria
    Andy

Some folks have fixed this by reinstalling iPhoto:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Slide Shows With iPhoto And FCE

I have made slideshows with both these programs and of course iPhoto gives stunning quality.
However, as far as I can see, the iPhoto slideshow can only be played via a computer - which can be a problem when you visit somebody and your computer is a back-breaking eMac!
Is there any easy way of importing such a slideshow (complete with effects etc.) into FCE or iDVD?
I am fairly sure that the brilliant sharpness etc. will drop to standard DV/DVD quality if that is done?
    Ian.

    Hi Ian,
iDVD will do this. Basically you create an album in iPhoto, then open iDVD and import the album (Media pane > Photos, then drag the album to the DVD menu). You can change the sequence, add, delete images, change buttons, etc. (I think you can only apply one transition type, though, for the entire slide show.) You can also add an audio track and have iDVD adjust the slideshow timing to automatically fit the length of the audio.
I suppose you would have to call it DV/DVD quality however I've done this and the results look great, at least for the intended audiences/purposes.
With regard to varying the effects/transitions between slides, we had to use iMovie or FCE to do that.

  • Are there any step-by-step directions for making a slide show with music on iDVD?

I once knew how to do this, but lost my directions (from a friend) in make a slide show using iDVD.  Where could I download the steps for making a DVD that I could play on my DVD player and view on my TV monitor.?

I will try this.  I did go to help, but did not click on that subject.  Actually, all of a sudden it worked, except that the music I choose did not work.  So, I will work on this later.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Making a slide show with ActionScript

I know, I know...why aren't I using Powerpoint to do a slide show? Because I want to incorporate more detailed animation into the presentation that I can only do in Flash. My question is simply this: How do I simply make Flash move from one image to another via clicking? The script I was trying to use involved a stop on the frame and this:
    on (release) {
        gotoAndPlay(2) }
...on the image, which is a button. I don't get any errors upon export, but the functions still don't work. It remains stuck at frame 1.
I don't want thumbnails or anything in this. Just to stop on frame 1,  click, then go to frame 2, stop, click. You get the idea. There will also be occasional animations and sounds happening over the images, which I imagine I can just use matching scripts for.
Can anyone suggest what actions I can apply to frames and/or clips/buttons to achieve the slide show look?

That one didn't work either. No error messages, but it also doesn't move. But I had some luck with this code:
    on (release)
        _root.gotoAndStop(2);
I don't know yet how to make it change scenes, but it's definitely working for the slide show effect. Thanks very much for your help, though!

  • I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Error message in iDVD with Slide show from iPhoto 09

I have about 130 photos in a slide show with music in iPhoto 09. The slide show settings are for the whole slide show are Ken Burns effect, each slide about 8.1 seconds, random transitions, and music fit to the slide show..I Went to "Share" Send to DVD.
In DVD, I type in a title and a photo in the drop zone, then I chose as a Burn as a Disc Image. It does some encoding and then a I get an error message when it finishes that says " There was an error during the rendering of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled".. This basically tells me Nothing!!
What is wrong? How can I fix this? Using OS 10.5.7 intel dual core. iMac desktop.
Previously, I had successfully created a DVD of this same slide show, made one DVD, but after seeing in on my DVD player, I tried to fix some things, like fitting the music to the slide show, but that is about all. Frustrated!!
    Any help will be appreciated....Thanks.

This sounds more like an iDVD issue than an iPhoto one. I would post on the iDVD forum here:

  • Making hi-res slide shows with PE7 or 5

Hi all, I am a long time user of PE5 and prior, but have only recently started making slide shows with zooms, fades and music. I made a vCD, and the resolution wasn't very good on my HDTV. Must I use Premiere Elements 7 to make hi-res DVDs of my slides that preserve the features, or will PS7 by itself do it? [I don't really need  video editing capability.]  Can I use Premiere Elements 7 with PE5? Or would it make most sense to upgrade to PE7 and PreE7 together?  Are there any other good solutions other than adding a video editing program?
    Many thanks
    Don

I am sure that this has already been dealt with on this site. Check the search box at the top to see what comes up. I think your PlayBook has to be sent back to RIM. Here is the RIM contact info for Germany. I think they have a very quick turnaround time. Backup all your data before sending it to them

  • I completed my album for a slide show in iPhoto; can't get the slide show to swart with picture number 1.

I completed my album for a slide show in iPhoto; can't get the slide show to swart with picture number 1.

    Whenever I log into icloud.com
Using what version of which browser?
iCloud.com requires Safari 6 or later, Firefox 22 or later, or Google Chrome 28 or later. Have you tried all of those?
If you have, have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies?
For the first tine since 1989 I'm thinking about buying a PC.
You'd have exactly the same problems on an 8 year old PC too. It's a bit unreasonable to expect such an old Mac to continue to be compatible as software is constantly updated.
Saying that, I'm still able to access iCloud.com successfully in Safari v5.0.6 on a PowerPC Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.8, so the problem you're having is likely to be a browser issue, not something inherently wrong with the computer.
Since all this crap started, Mail won't download my Mac.com or me.com email.
The iCloud.com website is totally unconnected to Mail's ability to download email via IMAP. Have you checked the mail server settings are correctly setup and up-to-date?

  • I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.

I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.  Try to export to an external HD attached, all help would be gratefully received

Have you ever successfully saved anything to that external drive? My first two thoughts are that the drive isn't formatted for the Mac or that you don't have rights to save to the drive.

  • Help Needed!  I have created a 13 Min Slide Show in iPhoto (iMac Mavericks) but am having problem with adding music.

I created a 13 min Slide Show in iPhoto but have a question on adding music.  I would like to add music clips that are set to change at the beginning of certian slides so that there is a varity of music during the show rather than a continuous theme clip.  I know you can add multiple clips but can you pin them to change at a particular point in the program?  Right now the music clips just run to their time limit and the next one starts.  Isn't there a way to edit them the way it can be done in iMovie? Its frustrating to be able to create a nice slide show and not be able to manage the music background.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

No, you don't have that fine grained control of the soundtrack in iPhoto. It's designed for a quick job, not a complex one.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • This is my first time using iphoto, I am trying to make a slide show that I can then burn to a dvd. The slide show is complete, but I'm not sure where to go now. Can I burn the slide show from iphoto or do I have to export to imovie or idvd?

I have completed the slide show i am making, but not sure what to do now. I want to burn it to a dvd, but not sure if i can do that from iphoto or do i need to export to imovie or idvd? If i need to export, will iphoto save a copy in iphoto? This may be really stupid, but I don't see an obvious way to save my slide show in iphoto. Please Help!

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
NOTE:  If you're running iPhoto 9.5 the export options will be different.
