  • FLASH CS5: JAVA RUNTIME ERROR

    Hi Guys!
    I'm facing a serious problem that I can't figure out how to solve it!
    I installed the Flash CS5 trial and each time I launch the application, a windows with the message (error initializing java runtime and may need to reinstall Flash )
    That's making 6 times that I reinstall Flash CS5, Java 6.21, unisntall, install from CS5 Suite, single Flash CS5 and always the same problem.
    I use Windows 7 X86
    I tried to find the solution all around the web, the Adobe support and nothing seems to point out the solution!
    Is there someone here that can help?
    Cheers!

    I think the idea is that Flash AS3 compiler needs JRE to compile swfs, so please update to the latest JRE version for CS5 to work. You would not need to install, CS5 Flash again and again.

  • Why can't I hide the menu in Flash CS5 projector files?

    I'm making some executable / projector files in Flash CS5. Using CS4 I was able to stop the menu appearing by using flash.system.fscommand("showmenu", "false");
    It doesn't work in CS5.  Is it a bug? Or a feature?  It's incredibly annoying - how do I get rid of the menu without resorting to an external projector program or without having to use AIR?

    You can't get rid of the RH menus because [I believe] Adobe deemed it necessary to have the Flash version as well as security options and global settings in there for users at all times. At best you can minimize the listings on the right-click menu:
    var rightClickMenu:ContextMenu = new ContextMenu();
    rightClickMenu.hideBuiltInItems();
    _root.menu = rightClickMenu;
    You can also get rid of the top menu using Resource Hacker, but the right-click menu stays, even if you delete the resource from the .exe file.

  • Flash CS5 bug - clicking on and off "allow smoothing" in bitmap properties dialog crashes Flash

    I had a situation where I was clicking on and off the allow smoothing checkbox in a bitmap properties dialog to observe the difference in appearance and that crashed Flash - Windows 7 Professional, Flash CS5 Professional 11.0.2.489, 8GB Ram - there seem to be a number of bugs like this because I've seen a number of cases in different places in Flash CS5 where doing something normal just crashes it.  Kind of annoying when you are in the middle of something and haven't been saving your work every 5 seconds.

    Hi,
    We have a problem with our action script and seems to be using cookies of clients computers.
    We have a action script as under ..........----------
    function my_function38()
        var _loc1 = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes;
        totalNodes = _loc1.length;
        cityname_mc.fl_name_mc.fl_name.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.name;
        rate_mc.rate_anim_mc.fl_rate.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.rate;
        fl_month.text = my_xml.firstChild.childNodes[cnt].attributes.month;
    // End of the function
    my_Date = new Date();
    my_xml = new XML();
    my_xml.load("DEL.xml?uniqueID=" + getTimer());
    my_xml.onLoad = my_function38;
    my_xml.ignoreWhite = 1;
    if (!cnt)
        var cnt = 0;
    } // end if
    ++cnt;
    if (cnt >= totalNodes)
        cnt = 0;
        gotoAndPlay(1);
    else
        gotoAndPlay(1);
      Xml Data as under
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding= "UTF-8" ?>
    <cities>
      <city name="Delhi" rate="£365" month=""file location"></city>
    </cities>
    What is happening is we are storing many swf files and xml files for different cities on server location 1 with same code but are just changing the xml file to be picked.
    I.e
    DELHI.XML    DELHI.SWF
    BANGKOK.XML  BANGKOK.SWF
    SYDNEY.XML SYDNEY.SWF
    All are in one folder and we are just changing the xml path in fla files and loading the new swf.
    Then we are giving out swf urls to an advertising company which is in turn picking up swf files from sever location 1 and displaying the same on their website.
    The problem is each time we access the swf file on there site the data doesnot display properly. It is picking up the wrong xml data. When we check the fla the path for xml is ok. What we think is it is saving swf or xml in cookies of user computer. Is there anyway to prevent it from happening.
    We Are using Adobe Flash CS5.
    Thanks

  • In Flash CS5, I can't choose Smooth point in the Motion Editor.

    I'm working on the Flash CS5 Classoom in a book lessons, and in Lesson 4, in the Motion Editor, right-clicking on the keyframe in the Alpha property doesn't bring up a Smooth point menu selection, just an Add a keyframe option. Is there another way to access the Smooth point option?

    When in authoring mode in Flash, what happens when to do Ctrl+Enter to Test the Movie?  Do you get an .swf in the same path that your saved swf is in?  Did you save first?  Where did you save your FLA?  Did you look in that folder for your HTML and your SWF?

  • Flash CS5 unable to play .FLV files on Macbook Pro

    I have a colleague who is trying to put together a Flash package for me  on her macbook pro.  It needs to play an flv file. She is unable to play  flv files on her computer either in Flash or using the Adobe Media  Player. I have no problem playing the same files on my macbook pro,  we're both running the latest OS and have version 1.8 of Adobe Media  Player.
    She went to the Adobe site to download the latest version of Adobe  Media Player, hoping that might include whatever component is missing on  her system. Because of Adobe's decision not to distribute AMP that  didn't help.  She has Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2 on her system.  When  she imports an flv video into a Flash project and tries to play it she  gets an error message saying it can't stream the video. Note that the  video is on her hard drive, it is NOT on the internet so no streaming  should be required.
    The actual error message is: "the video player is in the connection  error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load  but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no  connection to the server or the stream was not found."
    Since it's a file on her hard drive, and she has loaded the file  into the Adobe development environment successfully, the one thing we  know for certain is that neither of these reasons is correct. Something  is obviously missing on her system, what is it and what can we do to fix  it?

    I'm getting error too (Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound). I'm getting this with CS5. This file was previously made in CS4 and never got this error.
    Everything (fla and flv too) is on external hard disk.
    As this work requires to be exported to mov, I've found out that everything needs to be on the mac (don't know for pc), like on desktop.
    So, let me wrap up disadvantages I got with Flash CS5:
    - TextField.embedFont makes the font disappear in CS5, so I can't use it, so I can't "play" with text in a comfortable way (in CS4, with embedFont = true, I was able to rotate and stuff). Now I have to make a bitmap out of it. It means 3 lines of code and a new variable, instead of just an easy one.
    - I have to rebuild my entire source path structure for AS classes, as my old one (that took me years of effort to be reasonable and used to work just fine in CS4).
    - I have to move stuff from my hard drive to the desktop, to make flv be played and to make a mov out of my animation.
    CS5 is making my job harder and making me lose a lot of time to find out errors that have no good reason to exist (it was not error. just "place CS5 doesn't like").

  • Adobe Flash CS5.5 Crashes while drawing/dragging objects.

    I have experienced quite a few crashes trying out Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Premium when it comes to using Flash Professional CS5.5. I have documented one of the crashes at a pastebin entry, which I will link it and an earlier crash log dump below.
    Here's how the crash occurs on my iMac (27-inch, Mid-2011 with AMD 1GB Dedicated Graphics):
    1.) Create either a Flash Document - AS 2.0 or AS 3.0 does not matter, though using 3.0 makes it crash faster I've noticed.
    2.) Draw shapes. After a while of drawing shapes and making them into groups/objects/symbols...
    3.) Drag the shapes around, eventually performance starts to drop over time.
    4.) After a while, Flash will freeze and crash, complete with the beach-ball spinning.
    The most recent crash:
    http://pastebin.com/YCWKAbhp
    There is my pastebin of my latest crash, using an Adobe Flash document using ActionScript 2.0.
    Alternatively, sometimes Flash CS5.5 will crash using ActionScript 3.0 as the language of choice, and oddly much quicker. One of those crashes can be found here: http://pastebin.com/pTSerErw
    The irony in both cases is I don't primarily use Flash Professional CS5.5 for programming or scripting at all. I use it for basic vector artwork for an array of projects. Thus, I don't use AS3.0 with this program.
    Here's what I have done so far to try to remedy this:
    I have updated the Apple JRE/JDK for Mac OS X Lion to the latest revision. I also have cleared out the JRE/JDKs and have started from scratch, to clear out any possible mistakes in installation. I know Java seems to be part of the Flash complilation process, oddly enough
    Use ActionScript 2.0 documents helps keep crashes down, oddly. Yet they still happen eventually
    Booted into Safe Mode to try to fix permissions and such. No dice
    Repaired permissions manually using Disk Utility. No dice
    Edited my jvm.ini file on my install to have no memory constraints, instead defaulting to the ones I have manually set for my JRE/JDKs. Specifically for my Java 64-bit JRE/JDK: -Xmx2048m -Xms512m -Xss2048m -d64 using the Java Preferences application in /Application/Utilities/
    I have also monitored the console for any activity aside crashes. No dice
    Trashed my Preferences and Application Support files
    Deleted/Fixed corrupt or duplicate fonts - I did find some duplicates due to Microsoft Office 2011
    I also have sought out other errors here on the Adobe Forums/Community. While similar, they are usually for more complicated projects, while mine is simply drawing and copy/pasting stuff seems to be a problem.
    In short, I've done my research and still haven't been able to fix it
    Oddly enough, most of the time no corruption has been reported due to this. In fact, I usually just have to restart Flash, save often, and if it crashes, repeat until my project is done. I also don't use auto recovery because it actually makes things more confusing and I admittedly don't trust it.
    Also, I usually have Flash Professional running, as well as Adium (IM client), Safari, and iTunes. Usually no other programs are running outside background programs or menu bar items.
    Does anyone have insight, solutions or possible pointers on how to fix this? It's more of an annoyance - but this is painful since I spent good money on this product. I hope CS6 improves this with full 64-bit support and better memory management.

    Hi,
    I am not sure if this is a "Master Page since we use a French version (the functionnality is  named "Gabarit" in French), so here is a printscreen which shows what our users try to do:
    Immediately after the drop is completed, InDesign shuts down without further notice as described before.
    I fully patched one machine to 7.5.3, rebooted it and it still does not work.
    I know 2 GB is a little bit short, but since this is currently a corporate standard in my customer's organization, I will need to be sure that this is the direct and only cause before any upgrade request can be made.
    Thank you for your help.

  • How to easily get an Adobe Flash CS5.5 Professional project into Flash Builder 4.5?

    Hey all,
    I am new and trying to do the following, can you please guide/help me do it:
    I have a video chat application that is done on Adobe Flash CS5.5. I had the problem of "echo" so I wanted to use "getEnhancedMicrophone()". When I replaced "getMicrophone()" with "getEnhancedMicrophone()", Adobe Flash CS5.5 Professional didn't recognize it. I knew I need Flex, so I installed Flash Builder. And then got lost. What I simply want is just import my "FLA" file (or if I need to convert it to something else using a specific tool, let me know.. I have Adobe Flash CS5.5 Professional and can install other required applications if needed) done on Adobe CS5.5, into Flash Builder, and then "support Flex" so that I compile with the flash-version argument required.
    I am totally new to MXML and Flash Builder, and even Flex. I don't know how to import a FLA and add "Flex" libraries into it simply to make "getEnhancedMicrophone()" work without the need to recreate the whole thing on Flash Builder. Can you guide me please? The output is for a web SWF file, not a desktop application.
    Thanks!

    I have the same problem here. I'm trying to do a stick animation on cs6, but to be more precise, i need to actually draw with a larger brush size. I suggest using the pen tool with the smooth option on. You can't see exactly where the stroke will be, but its better than nothing, and it more or less acts like the brush anyway.

  • Bigger brush sizes in Adobe Flash CS5.5

    So what my problem is with Adobe Flash CS5.5 is that it only goes up to a certain brush size. I want an even bigger brush sizes. I wish there was an option where you could pick a number and thats how big your brush size would go up to. But it only gives you a limited amount of options. Is there ANY way AT ALL for me to get a lot bigger and/or smaller brush sizes? Thanks in advance!

  • Is it possible to Embed Youtube Widescreen windows full options on Flash CS5 AS2 Website?

    Good Day
    Does anyone know How to Embed a Youtube widescreen Video window on a Flash Website, i'm using Flash CS5 and ActionScript 2???!!
    I've seen several video tutorials on youtube and other websites about this, but they only work with a window of 480px for 385px (4:3),
    which doesn't allow the fullscreen option on the lower bar of the video, because the player still had a silver bar not a black one !!!!
    This is the one i've been using!!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfU5Hj3uKZ4
    I would like to use a widescreen window (16:9; 16:10), like the ones youtube curently uses, 360p; 480p;720p, like in this case:

    I would very much appreciate any help you can give me!!!
    Thank you

    There are two options here that I can think of..
    1.  Preinstall AIR on their machines, and use AIR files.  That will work IF AIR is already installed.     Flash projectors have no ability to control the file system in this way, but AIR does.
    2. Use a Director projector.   There are Director Xtras that can control the file system, and you can embed a SWF in Director.  So you wouldn't have to recreate the SWF content, you'd only need to have Director and learn some basics about using SWF and making projectors.
    That's all I can think of.

  • Does Flash CS5 (AS3) come with more components than CS4 (AS3)?

    Hi all.
    Bit of a background to my question- I started learning AS3 around June last year (with no prior Flash experience). I was mainly interested in learning Flash for my own knowledge and personal projects I had in mind. Lately though I've been considering getting employed as a Flash developer, but most companies seem to be asking for AS2 experience, as well as AS3. So I fired up CS4 this morning and took a look at AS2. Probably the most surprising thing I found was that CS4 has a whole bunch more components for AS2 than it does for AS3, making me want to drop AS3 and work with AS2 permanently lol (the built in components make my life so much easier, and offer me more than faster execution does). I'm assuming the reason for this is because AS2 has been around for while, and Adobe has had more time to build more components for it, whereas AS3 is only relatively new.
    So to conclude, does CS5 have more AS3 components (perhaps equal to AS2), or do we only have the same components as we had in CS4?
    <3 components lol.
    Thanks guys.

    Flash CS5:
         ActionScript 3 - 3 categories (Flex, User Interface, Video). 33 components in total.
         ActionScript 2 - 3 categories (Media, User Interface, Video). 36 components in total.
    Flash CS4:
         ActionScript 3 - 2 categories (User Interface, Video) 31 components in total.
         ActionScript 2 - 4 categories (Data, Media, User Interface, Video) 25+ components in total.
    Sorry that I don't know how exactly how many components are in Flash CS4 AS2. Couldn't find enough images (I don't have CS4, I use CS5).
    Anyway, I think that Flash CS4 AS2 has the most components, with the most categories. However, whether you should use CS5 or CS4 and AS3 or AS2/AS1 really depends on, not how many components are available, but what you need. Chances are some components you will never touch. Also, sometimes you will need a new feature only in Flash CS5, or be asked by your future employer to write an application in the other scripting language.
    So really, it depends what you think. If I were you, I would download a trial of both CS4 and CS5, and play around, see which option you like the most. Oh, and be prepared to be forced to use another option by your employer at some stage.
    Hope it helps

  • Best practices for Flash CS5 and Flash Builder 4 integration?

    With Flash CS5's new XFL file structure/format, what's the best way to structure project files for Flash CS5 integration with Flash Builder 4? Flash CS5 autocreates a folder named after the xfl file as the outer container, and then all the assets/xfl within it. Should this folder be used as the project folder for Flash Builder 4, or better to nest the xfl container folder in a "real" project folder? I would presume the latter, since you might have multiple XFL files in one project. I was hoping to see some automatic linkages between document class of the Flash CS5 XFL file and any default ActionScript class created by Flash Builder, but so far I seem to need to specify a document class directly in Flash CS5's environment and making sure that the path to a default class created by Flash Builder is correct.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

    Most likely, you know that, but just in case, you can integrate new Flash project into existing Flex 4 project  from within the Flash Builder by choosing either Flash Component or Flash Container from the FB Design view. In such workflow Flash Builder opens the Flash CS 4 (I assume that should be the same for CS5) and takes care of the integrating the newly created Flash project into original Flex 4 project.

  • Flash CS5 format to Flash CS3 Format

    Hi.
    I'm using Flash CS5 and i need to save the animations i am making on Flash CS3 format.
    How can i do it?

    Get a copy of Flash CS4 (or find someone who has it) so that you can save from 5 to 4, then from 4 to 3.  If you used any features that are new since CS3 they will be lost.  If you need to find CS4 you can trial versions at http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html

  • Flash CS5.5 - Test movie in AIR debug launcher (mobile)

    Okay, so I have searched the web high and low and cannot find the answer to this so I'm really hoping someone could please help me on these forums.
    I am trying to test an iPad app I'm making.
    I'm using AIR for iOS in my publish settings and Actionscript 3.0 in Flash CS5.5
    When I test movie in AIR debug launcher (mobile), none of the mobile actionscript is working, such as gestures or tap and drags... nothing.
    I've watched a stack of videos on Adobe TV and it seems to be so easy.
    Does anybody know what am I doing wrong? Am I just missing something here?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Relaxatraja, thanks for trying to help me with this. I've tried testing for Android and for iOS... here's an example of a mobile code snippet that doesn't work in the AIR debug launcher for a contact_mc button I've made.
    Multitouch.inputMode = MultitouchInputMode.TOUCH_POINT;
    contact_mc.addEventListener(TouchEvent.TOUCH_BEGIN, fl_TouchBeginHandler);
    contact_mc.addEventListener(TouchEvent.TOUCH_END, fl_TouchEndHandler);
    var fl_DragBounds:Rectangle = new Rectangle(0, 0, stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
    function fl_TouchBeginHandler(event:TouchEvent):void
    event.target.startTouchDrag(event.touchPointID, false, fl_DragBounds);
    function fl_TouchEndHandler(event:TouchEvent):void
    event.target.stopTouchDrag(event.touchPointID);
    Am I missing something? Do I need to import classes? Can I only test Multitouch and gestures on an actual device?
    Thanks

  • Flash CS5 code hinting not working?

    Just installed the new Flash CS5 trial and code hinting doesn't appear to be working! I have added all my custom class paths in to the AS3 source paths, but I don't get any code hinting for any of these just the same old code hinting you get in CS4. Am I doing something wrong or does it just not work?
    UPDATE: If it helps, in the code editor i get a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in, in the bottom right hand corner. When I have over this it advises me:
    " *** Unable to build code hint cache. Please save the associated FLA into a different folder. There are too many files on the classpath. *** "
    This error message appears no matter what FLA/Class i open, and moving it makes no difference.
    UPDATE: Problem solved, the "There are too many files on the classpath" was the clue! Slimmed down my library and all seems to work now.
    However, this does bring me on to another question.. does anyone know how many class files flash can comfortably cache? I use some fairly chunky libraries in my work and am wondering if i'm going to find myself constantly slimming them down after a while?

    The reason everyone gives for AS3 is that AS2 was buggy.
    I don't think so. AS3 is a better language, better designed, more consistent, more powerful. I would switch to AS3 for that, not because of bugs - but I don't know what's the reason behind everyone's choice.
    AS2 was not buggy, people were writing buggy scripts
    AS2 was buggy. Maybe people were writing buggy scripts too, but believe me it was buggy. However AS3 is at the very least equally buggy. It is better designed, more consistent, but equally buggy in its implementation.
    All software have bugs, but programming languages usually undergo a stricter and more thorough revision than other kinds of sofware because the consequences of bugs in a programming language are more disastrous.
    But that's not the case of ActionScript. Maybe because of its history and its legacy, or maybe because Adobe was always dedicated to completely different kinds of software, like PhotoShop, Premiere and the like, and suddenly dove into the business of developing a programming language without having the know-how.
    The level of bugginess of ActionScript is amazing. I work with actionscript daily and there's no day that I don't run 4 ot 5 times into some problem due to some bug. Not that I discover new bugs every day, just run into them - sometimes they are already reported, other times they are not.
    Why should something that took one line of code (clicking on a movieClip
    to move to a frame) now take 5 or more lines of code (creating a
    listener object, assigning a listener object, writing a function).
    It often happens that a language that is in the overall more elegant, consistent and compact, turns out to need a bit more of code for doing the simplest things. Maybe what could be done with 1 line of code now takes 5, but things that took 1000 lines of cumbersome awkward tricky and hacky code can now be done with just 100 of readable and simple-to-understand code.
    When I first learned Java I was surprised at the quantity of code I had to write just to make a program that would print "hello world", while in most dialects of Basic it was just:
    10 PRINT "Hello world"
    Would you say Basic is superior to Java in any sense?
    I teach Flash at a university, both beginner and advanced users. [...]
    I'll stick to AS2 in my classes.
    You should think about the damage you may be doing to your students. If they are going to use ActionScript professionally, they'll have to learn AS3, rather sooner than later. So why not save them the pain to do the effort twice? If instead you are teaching them AS just for didactic purposes (i.e. for learning programming in general) and don't care about practical applications and you don't like the way AS has evolved (i.e. AS3), then consider teaching them another language, instead of an obsolete version of a current one.
    AS3 is not more complicated, or difficult to learn, or less designer-friendly or non-programmer-friendly than AS2. Not at all; rather the opposite. It is more complicated and difficult to learn when you already know AS2, because you feel like everything you knew is useless - but the same can be said about learning AS2 when you already know AS3. Starting from scratch, AS3 is indeed simpler.
    But this have drifted OT, sorry. Back to the topic:
    It's not an app killer, just a minor inconvenience
    It's a major inconvenience if writing the same amount of code takes you three times the time it should take. That in 2010 you have to spell every single property/method/class name entirely from the first to the last letter, when most of the time it should be just a matter of typing a couple of characters and hit tab, is simply ridiculous. You may as well write your code with NotePad. Flash is (among other things) an IDE - something Adobe seemed to neglect up to recently; and when they finally decided to take a step into making it work like any other decent IDE, it does not work!!
    There are bigger things to complain about.
    On this you are definitely right.
    Using their pretty remarkable products (where would we be without PS or
    DW?) is not a right, it's a (sometimes frustrating) privilege.
    It's a privilege you pay for. That's when it becomes a right.
    So Adobe mods, we're frustrated but only because we're all loyal users who depend on your products
    (emphasis is mine)
    Exactly. That's the point.
    Note there's been no helpful answer from them yet: that's how much they care about loyal users who depend on their products.
