Making a white to clear gradient

I'm used to photoshop and understand illustrator works on different principals, but I can't get a white to clear gradient or a gradient that has white on either end, or a graident in color..I've tried making a new gradient swatch like in InDesign and have tried loading various default graidents but can't get what I wNt I want to do this: thanks in advance.

yes more simple but I'm losing the bright turq at bottom of button with only one rectangle. I need to understand the combining effects of the layering of images, how they affect one another. Am using the transparency palette to no avail.
This is what I want, made from 2 separate gradient rectangles with an additional oval shape on top. (I took out the outside of the oval with Photoshop). I am unable to make a clipping mask that leaves all areas intact:
This is how far I get, (below) and making a clipping mask either cuts out an area of the button I want, deletes one of the rectangles, which changes the gradation or "deletes" the whole image except for the bounding box(es), (Like in Post #11 above, image 5). I need to get rid of the areas with the red "X's". (I still think I'm thinking in terms of rasterizing software and can't get my head around Illustrator. I can do all I want in InDesign, but need to use Ai, so I don't understand what I don't understand!:
In this last I tried simplifying the orig. elements, and made it from 1 rectangle that had a 3-color gradient (so I can keep the intensity of colors), but when I lay the top oval on, I don't get the look I want, regardless of transparency settings, arrangement of objects or if the oval is with/without a gradient...and still can't make a clipping mask anyway:
Thinking outloud here!

    In Acrobat, I wrote a script to turn fields gray if a checkbox was checked. How can I get it to reset to white (or clear) when the reset form button is clicked?

    Thank you so much for your reply . . . but . . . I should have shared my original script with you -- it was a little more complicated than I led you to believer. I was triggering a group of text fields to become disabled as well as gray. Below is the original script so that when the checkbox is checked, it causes several "Co" fields to be disabled and gray.
    // Mouse Up script for check box
    // If checked, certain fields should be disabled
    var f_prefix = "Co";
    // Get a reference to all of the "Co" fields
    var f = getField(f_prefix);
    // Reset the Co fields
    resetForm([f_prefix]);
    if (event.target.value === "Off") {
        // Enable the Co fields
        f.readonly = false;
        f.fillColor = color.transparent;
    } else {
        // Disable the Co fields
        f.readonly = true;
        f.fillColor = color.gray;
    To recap -- my goal is to get those gray fields to revert to transparent if the form is reset. I'm willing to create my own custom "Reset Form" button but I'm not sure I understand how that would look. Wouldn't it be quite lengthy? I think I'm having a brain freeze -- can't figure it out!

  • [CS3][VBS] Delete Unused Swatches ALSO clears Gradient Swatches!

    Hi Folks!
    Heres another weird one. This code deletes unused CMYK swatches properly but also sets the background of some gradient swatches to black.
    myUnusedSwatches = currentdoc.UnusedSwatches.Count
    For myLoop = 1 To myUnusedSwatches
    On Error Resume Next
    Set myUnusedSwatches = currentdoc.UnusedSwatches.Item(1)
    *** I even through this in as a last ditch solution, but it only works sometimes***
    if instr(lcase(currentdoc.unusedswatches.item(1).name), "gradient") = 0 then
    myUnusedSwatches.Delete
    else myUnusedSwatches.Save
    end if
    Next
    Any ideas?

    I think i've gotten to the bottom of this - the designers have been using 'Paper' as a white background for gradients. When a colour swatch with CMYK 0 is used, the script works.
    If TypeName(currentdoc.UnusedSwatches.Item(1)) = "Gradient" Then
    Doesn't work, unfortunately, because its not actually deleting the gradient, its setting its background colour to black; the unused swatch its deleting is actually a color swatch.
    Since there will be a lot of files here set up this way, can you think of any way to work around this? Why does this not happen when you do the same action in the UI ('select all unsused'> 'Delete')?
    Thanks again Ole!

  • White Banding in Gradient Mesh

    I recently upgraded to CS3 and now when I use the gradient mesh tool, using only two colors... a white band appears between the two colors. This didn't happen in Illustrator 10. I'm just trying to go from a Dark color to a lighter version of the same color to give a shading effect and the white banding throws it off.
    Does using Pantone colors have anything to do with this ? It's driving me crazy.
    Thanks

    Unless you're printing hundreds, it will be digital. The cost of making plates for color work is high when you go on a press, so you need a lot of copies before that gets absorbed into the per unit cost of the finished product and can compete with the click charges for running the laser printer, which needs no plates and has practically no setup time for each job.
    For a job run on my favorite printer's press I usually figure the minimum charge is $1500 (and that would cover any number of impressions up to around 500 copies). As the number of copies increases, the cost for paper, ink, and press time go up, but the very heavy cost of the plates and job setup gets sliced into smaller and smaller chunks until eventually you are paying only pennies per unit (or fractions of a penny). On the other hand, the color copier has a constant cost per page that is I think around $.25 each, whether you print one or one thousand. The setup cost is minimal (I don't know what my guy charges, but where I used to work, we charged $15 per file, and I think that is considered high these days, but it depends a lot on how hard they work on getting the color right).
    I just got a quote this afternoon to print 2000 booklets in two colors, 16 pages plus cover, finished size 5.5 x 8.5 after folding and stapling. This is a perfect configuration for the laser printer which can do the finishing inline and spit out a finished booklet that needs no additional handling. It will cost about $3200.00 to run on the press, then trim, fold and stitch, but running it on the copier would be $6000.00. If I add another thousand coppies to the press run it will add perhaps another hundred or two hundred dollars, adding them to the copier run would probably add $2000.00 to $2500.00. On the other hand, if I only needed 50 copies, the digital print price would allow me to consider color where I never would have been able to do it ten years ago.

  • Set white to clear

    I can't get it to accept a jpeg on here so I'll describe it:
    I have 11 jpeg's I want to set into 11 layers.  Each layer only has 1 circle and they don't overlap.  I added them using copy/paste and the white from the unused areas is overlapping and causing u to not see the layers below it.  Is there a way to isolate just the circles from each jpeg/layer with the unused areas clear?
    Darren

    Because all jpg's use a background layer instead of a normal layer you need to convert the layer to a normal layer to see transparency. (click on the padlock or drag padlock to the trashcan in the layers panel)
    You will need to select the circle, any of the section tools will work, some better than other depending on whether the circle is solid color or has a pattern or gradient to it.
    You may be able to just use the magic wand and click once in the center of the circle or use the quick selection tool and drag in the center of the circle until the entire circle is selected.
    At this point you use the menu item Layer then Layer Mask then Reveal selection to create a mask for that object hiding the white. This process is non-destructive allowing you to go back any time in the future and re-edit or undo it.
    Another option is to select the white background using the magic wand or quick selection tool. In this case you can hit the delete key to permanently remove the background. Since you are altering pixels this is considered destructive and is considered undoable. However in this case flattening the layer(s) or saving as a jpg will create a white background where it was transparent.
    This means you need to save in a format that supports transparency for deleted backgrounds such as png. However if you have layers, layer styles, editable text, data that extends past the boarder of the canvas, is transparent, has a mask or an alpha channel, then you need to save as psd or tiff.

  • Has anyone else has seen this problem with their iPod touch 5th Generation with iOS 7.0.4. My screen started making flashing white lines across the screen, then went dim, then pixeled with purples

    The ipod will show flashing white lines across the screen, going down, it then does somthing where the screen will dim down but its not like when the backlight goes on and its about to lock. It dims the background of your ipod and the icons and letters kind of all look defined. Then the ipod gets all pixelized and it has big boxes on pixels and its all differnt colors like purples and greens, red, etc. then it turns right off and restarts itself less than 5 seconds later. These things happen really fast but when it does it's really weird. It first happened 3 times in a row, Its still continuing to happen but i can manually turn off my ipod by holding the lock button down and not even 30 seconds later it's like its possessed and it turns on by itself. I talked to somone on appel and they told me to back it up and restore it. I restored it and as soon as the process ended and tuirned on like a brand new ipod and like clockwork the glitch happened instantly. It did it a couple of times throughout the night and i kept having to watch it so i can keep turning it off manually because it continues to turn on by itself. I talked to 3 different people on Apple Support and they couldnt even find an answer for me. It's so weird.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Making the "white" template look like the "darkroom" template

    my current podcast page is built from the "white" template, but I am re-designing the rest of the site from the "darkroom" template. i do not want to change the template of my podcast page because i don't want to mess with the template on each individual podcast page (there are lots and i like them how they are), but i want the primary podcast page to look as much like the "darkroom" template as possible. is there a way to add the textured background and color of the "darkroom" template to the "white" template so that it blends reasonably well? any other tricks that might help?

    You can go to your website and open the Activity window (CommandOptionA) for one of the pages. In that Activity window search for files with "bg" in the file name and double click on it. If that's the textured file drag it to the desktop. You can then use it as the browser background image while the content background is set to none or transparent. That might do what you want.
    You won't be able to get the spotlight effect as that's a separate file used by the theme.

  • Wireless Keyboard (white keys / clear plastic base)

    I've acquired a wireless keyboard (the version with the clear plastic frame), and would like to use it with last year's MacBook Pro (running Mac OS 10.6.3). Unfortunately, I don't have the original software CD, and I'm having trouble finding the software here on the Apple site. Anyone have any suggestions on where to find the software? Or, can anyone tell me if that old wireless keyboard will work at all with the new systems? Thanks!

    Which exact model keyboard? Is there an Apple model number on the bottom?
    I don't have experience with wireless keyboards but generally such items do not require driver installations but just configuration using system preferences. Occasionally there are software updates such as http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/wirelesskeyboardup date20.html

  • Product shot making a white background

    Hi All
    I have searched and search for a tutorial/blog/youtube on the subject and cannot find the right one for the job.
    I have product shots that require me to get a perfect white background whilst retaining the hair outline of the product. I have look at curves and levels but can't seem to get the right masking or layers that keeps the products properties.
    The main problem i think is because the product itself is a light colour against a background of what should be white
    I have attached image below, would really urgently appreciate advise of on how to or where to go to find the best tutorial.
    many thanks
    Dan

    Can you backlight the background?  If your point of view is not too shallow, you could possibly use a large octobox as a table with the product placed as close to the near side as you can manage.  Or place the back drop on a glass surface and curve it up at the back so you can light it from below and behind to give you a full white.  Or how about using a light tent with it off the ground?  I actually resorted to a light tent recently for a bottle of Rose wine which was proving to be a devil to photograph the way I wanted it.  Light tents feel like cheating, but by heck they can come in handy.
    Yes.  Support a light tent off the ground so you can light it from underneath and behind.  Maybe via difuser.   If you can't light the product properly from outside the light tent, support some angled foam board, or white card inside the light tent, and fire a snooted light at the foam board.  It's a variation of the trick for backlighting bottles where you stand a bottle shaped white reflector behind the bottle at 45° to the lens axis, and fire a snooted light in from the side.

  • When I add a black gradient in a layer mask it only appears white, how do I change the colour?

    When adding a layer mask to an image to add mulitple gradients, when I add a gradient with the colour set (black) and draw it onto the image it appears white or npothing appears at all. I have tried removing all white from the gradient colour palette and trying various different colour combinations but white is the only colour that seems to want to appear as a gradient.
    If someone could help with this is would be extremely grateful.
    Thanks

    As you can see, within the original image I have created a gradient overlay. This blends the two imags together. But the two midle images can only have one gradeint. I want another gradient on the image and to do this I have used a layer mask. I have been taught that you can add another gradient to the layer by doing this. It works however it just appears white. I have tried various different gradients that are available including 'Black,White'. Although its functioning correctly....
    ...it is apperaing white instead of black.
    Does this make things easier to understand?

  • Touch displaying weird white gradient display after few minutes of use

    I've had some issues last night with my 2G Touch. I was playing a game on it when my entire screen turned into a weird white and blue gradient pattern. The screen changed when pressing the Home button, so you can still interact with it, but you can only see this weird pattern. When I locked it for a moment then turn it back on, it'll display normally for a few moments, and then go back to this pattern.
    Today, I turned it on to see if it happened again, and so far, although I only used it for 20-30 seconds, it didn't go to this pattern, but I'm worried that it might act up again.
    The glass screen broke on me a few months ago, and I was going to call Apple to see what I could do to have that fixed. I don't know what the problem is now, though I have a feeling that since this new issue just started, the two things are unrelated.
    I know about Apple being really picky about what they repair, and though I am willing to pay them if I must, I read somewhere that they can STILL refuse to repair it even if you're willing to pay. That and I had a Nano that the screen went bad on, and they said that there was "accidental damage" and sent it back to me without them describing any other option (which I think is weird. Never seen anyone ever just not give you another option to repair a broken product if the warranty won't cover something). So while I'm sure that the new issue isn't related to the broken glass, they could just say "no, we're not going to repair it" and send it back. I paid $300 for this, and it's my third iPod (don't worry, I'm not just doing what I can to kill these things. I've been using iPods for a few years now, so it's not like I'm throwing them against walls or anything like that). So I'm hoping there's some solution to this (because, other than the broken glass, everything worked fine up until this point). The other issue that I think MIGHT be related to the new issue is that I have had to full restore my Touch whenever I update the firmware (this has been twice now) because it suddenly began acting up when I tried to update it.
    So yeah, I'm worried that something really wrong happened to my iPod that won't be fixed because of a shoddy repair policy. Any help will be appreciated.

    I can't imagine that repairing this unit will be cheap, but you'll get good service and a fair price here:
    http://www.ipodjuice.com/ipod-touch-battery-replacement-products.htm
    These folks can evaluate your repair, quote the price, and repair the unit itself.
    Apple, of course, will not pay for repairs on a unit with a broken screen, and it's uncertain whether they'll consider it worthwhile to support a unit whose main problem may very well be related to the original broken screen. For that reason, getting an independent repair (at a good price) may be your more sensible option. First of all, your iPod will be fixed to your satisfaction; second, you won't have to pay Apple's high prices for repair.

  • How can you turn white clear on a jpeg?

    I have downloaded a Jpeg file into illustrator.  It is black and white.  I need the white portion clear and the black portion white.  how do I do this?

    use the image as an opacity mask.
    draw a white shape.
    go to it's opacity settings by clicking on opacity on the control bar or open the Transparency panel.
    select Make Mask
    copy your black and white image
    select your white shape and in the transparency panel select it's mask area (the black square) and paste your image so that it overlaps with your white shape.
    exit the mask mode.
    profit.
    it's less complicated than it sounds. I usually make a symbol of my mask object because I don't like going into the editing mode of the mask. if you don't get the right knouck from your image, select inverse.
    you can style your white shape however you like btw.

  • Printing a graphic with a gradient mask in Flex 3-problem

    Hello, I am fairly new to flex development. I am puting together a little program that allows the user to upload a picture add a vignette mask in order to achieve a soft edge,  and have a problem I cannot  find an answer anywhere, maybe someone could help me please.
    I want  to print a the user photo with a gradient mask or vignette from flex. I managed  to show the image correctly on screeen with the gradient mask using  this class but the output to paper is a rectangle without the soft mask.
    //package to add the mask for display
    package com.dm.graphics
       import flash.display.Graphics;
       import mx.containers.Canvas;
       import flash.display.GradientType;
       public class FrameBorderSoft extends Canvas
          override protected function updateDisplayList(w:Number, h:Number):void
             super.updateDisplayList(w,h);
             var g:Graphics = this.graphics;
             g.clear();
             g.beginGradientFill(GradientType.RADIAL, [0x000000, 0x000000, 0x000000, 0x000000],
             [1,1,0.8,0],
             [1,128,195,255],
             horizontalGradientMatrix(0,0,w,h) );
             g.drawRect(0,0,w,h);
             g.endFill();
    It  works beautifully until I try to print the graphic. The image prints  but without the gradient edges (soft) instead it is just a sharp edge  rectangle.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Here is my print function:
    private function doPrint():void {
                    // Create an instance of the FlexPrintJob class.
                    var myPrintJob:FlexPrintJob = new FlexPrintJob();
                    // Start the print job.
                    if (myPrintJob.start() != true) return;
                    // Add the object to print. Do not scale it.
                    if (tabnavigator1.selectedChild == img1) {
               //switchcolor is a variable to detect if the user changed the background to white or clear.
                             switchcolor = 100;
                          //printCF is the card front container with the photo masked
                       myPrintJob.addObject(printCF, FlexPrintJobScaleType.NONE);
                       myPrintJob.printAsBitmap = false;
                    } else if (tabnavigator1.selectedChild == img1b) {
                       switchcolor = 100;
                       myPrintJob.addObject(printCB, FlexPrintJobScaleType.NONE);
    I hope this helps to visualize,
    I would greatly appreciate any assistance or advise.

    Hello, back on my issue, i tested a little bit more the message dispaching.
    I read the lazyLoadPolicy class and noticed that it always has to have a ModuleId property in the message to work, that's why the broadcast message didn't work to awake the module with the lazy loading policy.
    So i added copy of my module:
         <cairngorm:ParsleyModuleDescriptor objectId="test"
              url="TestModule.swf"
              applicationDomain="{ClassInfo.currentDomain}"
         />
         <cairngorm:ParsleyModuleDescriptor objectId="testbis"
              url="TestModuleBis.swf"
              applicationDomain="{ClassInfo.currentDomain}"
         />
    Set them both with a basicLoadPolicy, and tries to dispatch a message to only one of them using the ModuleId metatag. I then noticed that both modules received the message and not only the one i expected.
    I then changed the ModuleMessageInterceptor configuration to dispatch to only one kind of module:
    <cairngorm:ModuleMessageInterceptor type="{ OpenViewMessage }" moduleRef="test"/>
    and this worked as expected. Only the first module catched the message. I am obiously messing with the ModuleId metatag but i cannot see what's wrong...
    I compiled with
    -keep-as3-metadata+=ModuleId
    but this hasn't changed anything...

  • N8 white balance

    Hi, I bought my Nokia N8 two days ago and have noticed that when i view the screen from an angle the background colours and white text on the home screen look really crisp but when viewed from front on it has a sort of cream look to it like the white balance has changed  (kind of like changing the wb on your tv from cool to warm but a bit more subtle).
    Is this normal or is there a problem with the display. I havent seen another n8 so not sure if all of them are the same it just looks less vivid when viewing from straight on.
    Also i have the problem where the blacks look more like red but i know there's already a thread for this issue.

    Dude that white balance thing is normal.Even in my phone some white looks clearer if i see it from an angle.But mind you thats only white other colors appear vivid from all angle.To check the display do this.
    1.Carefully look at the anologe screen saver you will see the upper part appear slightly red.Check it after pressing the menu key.
    2.Download this images and check.In that blue pic i have marked.In that area you will see a black line as if the color transtion is not smooth.Download the pic in pc and phone so that you can see the difference in that marked area.
    3.The last bar appears red in that gradient pics.
