Making a Workbook global

Hi all,
I have a workbook with 10 tabs on it each tab being a query embedded. The problem is I can see the workbook in my fav, and none of the users are able to see it. So when I try to save the workbook as a global view, it just saves the tab that I’m on at the time of saving as a global view, meaning it just saves the 1 worksheet in the global view.
How can I save the whole workbook with all the 10tabs as a global view in the same workbook?
Thanks,
Sri

One role would be the 'empty' role that would just serve to contain the workbooks. You will assign this to yourself and the other users. You can call this role something like: Global Workbooks for FI or whatever.
Second role would be the one that would let you place a workbook in Role1. Role2 would be called: Workbook Maintenance role for Role1. This will have the auth as I specified above and you will assign this role to yourself. Additionally you can assign this role to toher users if you want to allow them to add new workbooks, or change the existing ones.
Hope this helps...

If creating and transporting the roles is something you do not want to undertake right now, you can simply email the users this workbook. They can refresh it be logging on and continue to work on it.

  • Making JNIEnv a global reference

    Hi All,
I have a class A in which I have a method m1() and a static method m2(). From m1() I invoke a native method nm1() passing refernce to the JNIEnv and other parameters. When there is a call to nm1(), the control goes to nm2 another native method. From nm2, I need to make a call back method on class A to invoke m2(). Please note that I cannot pass JNIEnv reference to nm2(). Can I make the incoming JNIEnv inside nm1() a global reference and access it from nm2()? Also note that i will only make use of JNIEnv and not the jObject in the nm2(). I know it works but would like to know what would be the impact in the multi threaded scenario.
Any inputs in this regard would be greatly apprciated.

    Hi,
I think you should save the JavaVM* pointer then get back the JNIEnv* from it.
See the callback part of JNative at http://jnative.cvs.sourceforge.net/jnative/JNativeCpp/CallBack.cpp?view=markup
As you can see at line 11 the JNIEnv got from the vm pointer.
I choose to save the JavaVM* pointer for potential threading issues.

  • Making variable values globally accessible in my code

I have certain variables, and when I declare their values
within a function I want the value to be accessible in other
functions. Right now it's not, so obviously I have a scoping
    problem.
For this example, I have a function that decides if an avatar
is too close to the side of the screen, in which case it sets a
flag var tooClose:Boolean = true; Of course my other functions
don't see this and aren't getting the message.
In old 2.0 I would have just said _root.tooClose = true or I
would have made the variable global.
Could someone please help me here? Its something I find
    myself needing quite a bit.

    Let me be clearer:
    var myFlag:Boolean = false;
    function resetVariable() {
    var myFlag = true
    function checkVariableValue() {
    trace(myFlag)
    // shows false
I would like it so when I set the variable myFlag = true in
the resetVariable function that the global value for myFlag becomes
"true" and all my other functions are aware of it.

  • Making nano the global editor (including root user)?

Vi isn't my strong suit so I decided to make nano my global editor by editing my /etc/profile file. However, whenever I do something like 'sudo crontab -e', it still opens it in vi, how can I force it to open in nano?
EDIT: I didn't really mind vi for edting before but I updated my system yesterday and the behavior of it's changed for some reason. Before I was able to use the arrow keys to navigate text files, even in insert mode but now, it inserts characters when I try to use the arrow keys in insert mode. So to edit the files, I have to enter insert mode, do the editing that I want in one location, exit insert mode, move onto the next location, etc. It's really annoying, that's the main reason I want to use nano instead.

    Tried it, it didn't work.
Doing that and editing my /etc/profile to export a VISUAL variable allows me to edit my crontab with nano when I'm logged in as root. However, when I try "sudo crontab -e" logged in as any user (including root), it opens my crontab in vi.

  • Making an object Globally accessible

What i am looking to do is this:
We have a schema called MECLIB which is just a library of functions and stuff for use in general. Things such as a FORMATPHONE, FORMATZIP and MAKEALPHANUM function... really general stuff.
We have public synonyms to all the functions, but every user who wants to use it, we need to explicitly grant them access on each or every function. This is a major pain. And since we use them regularly inside other procedures and packages, it cannot be done through roles.
Is there anyway i can take a function and mark somehow as "ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE", so that anyone can use it without needing to be explicitly granted their own permissions on it?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Did you GRANT EXECUTE to PUBLIC on your procedures ?

    Hi,
Assuming that these workbooks belong to a particular role, you need to endure that the users do not have maintenance ability for this role (that holds the workbooks).
You can see here for details on setting up these roles:

  • Making actionscript global & portable

Forgive me if this is the improper forum for this question. I
am certain that if it is, someone will kindly re-direct me. What
can I say, I'm sort of a noob.
Anyway, I have a single frame .swf file that is mostly
actionscript that is triggered by a set of buttons. It works a
charm in it's monolithic form. But what I need to learn is how to
build a portable "movie clip" that would contain my actionscript
and be able to drag that item into any flash document, build some
buttons on different frames and have the script run properly.
For example, in my file I have two buttons called "iplay" and
"ipause" that, through actionscript, send data to a php file.
If I try and build a movie clip and place the AS in that and
place the buttons in another layer, they don't work.
Some gentle push in the right direction of making my work
"global" even when contained in a clip would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks!

If they can update, that's ideal. If they can't, you can
    write your
code in prototype-based classes (not "really" classes, but
    conceptually
similar). I recommend AS2, don't get me wrong, but if this
    code must be in
AS1, check out this other tutorial, which describes how an
    object-oriented
approach can be done in AS1 (happens to be how it's done in
    JavaScript,
too). Don't let the two approaches confuse you! I don't mean
    the muddy the
waters at all -- just trying to give you a few more options.

  • Populateing a drop down list in a repeating sub form

I have been using the scripts from the Purchase Order sample that work with the Country and States/Provinces drop down lists and have modified them to fit my needs. The scripts work great. However I have a drop down list that is in a repeating sub form and the only the drop down list in the first occurance of the sub form works. The others don't.
I put this line of code in a field called drpOrderedByTeam.
    JobsScript.getJobsOther(xfa, xfa.resolveNode("form1.TimeSheetSF.DetailsSF[*].DetailsTable.DetailsRow.ItemNumber"));
I thought I just needed to add an "[*]" to the name of the sub form and it would work with all occurances but it doesn't seem so and I'm not sure what else to do.

Based on your explanations, I've attempted to re-create your form and I think I've got it working the way you'd like it to.
There are some difficulties with using fields in table headers which are replicated on subsequent pages because while new instances of the header subform and the fields it contains are created, you don't have access to these instances using the header's Instance Manager (I think this is a bug but I'm not sure). This means that you can't iterate through the instances of the header in order to populate the task lists depending on the selection in the team list. One solution for this is to make all header fields Global (select each field and, in the Object palette's Binding tab, set the
    Default Binding property to
Global). This means that all instances of these fields will share the same value. The effect is that when you change the value of a field on an instance of a header on any page, the change will be replicated on all instances on all pages. The catch, though, is when you use lists in the header. Making list fields global doesn't mean that their item lists are global -- which causes other headaches.
In the end, because of the problems I've described, I had to resort to cheating a little but if you think about it, it's not really cheating. What the form does is whenever the team list value changes, it removes all instances of the DetailsSF rows. This has the effect of also removing all instances of the DetailTitlesSF headers accross the current page set (and removes all pages but the first one). Then 6 new instances of the DetailsSF row are generated and the DetailTitlesSF header is re-populated using the new selection in the team list. After that, if a new page gets generated because of the number of instances of the DetailsSF rows, the new instances of the task lists in the new instances of the DetailTitlesSF header will have the correct list of items based on the current value of the team list. In the end, even though I'm cheating by removing all instances of the DetailsSF row in order to reset the lists in the DetailTitlesSF header, it's not really cheating because if you change teams, then it should be assumed that all data entered doesn't apply anymore because the tasks change as well... Convinced?
The best way to understand this is to check-out the sample form.
Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Pages document turned to gibberish-strange characters in rectangles. Can't read underlying text (still there)

I use a Pages document (password protected) as a frequent reference. It is 22 pages of text. Suddenly most text was replaced with strange characters, each encased in a little rectangle, so document was unreadable. Selecting a section of text, I could right-click and see that underlying text was still there, just not readable onscreen. Style was "Normal*." I don't know what the " * " means. I selected all and changed style to "Heading 9" on the list. All text reappeared, so my data is ok - for now (though not formatted as I want it). I can't trust Pages, however, and don't know what caused the problem or how to avoid it.
Note that the style now shows "Heading 9*". I don't know why the " * ". I tried selecting all and making "Normal" the global style, but the strange characters wouldn't budge. Switching back to Normal brings back gibberish.
Some text is Verdana; I just noticed that changing font also got rid of gibberish. Changing back to Verdana brought back gibberish.
Note that not every line of text was changed to gibberish; some were just fine.
Other Pages documents are fine - right now. I notice that there are asterisks in Style in other text documents.
I'm an experienced computer user, new to Pages in the fall when it came with my MacBook Air. In this document, format isn't all that important, but I can imagine where this would be a huge disaster for other types of documents.
Any help in figuring out what's going on most appreciated.

    Tom -
"That sounds like Apple's Last Resort font, which gets used when for some reason the app forgets about the font being used.  Use Fontbook to make sure you don't have duplicate Verdanas on your machine.  Also try cleaning your font caches with Onyx or by doing a safe boot"
Wow! Who would have guessed! Thank you for the advice; Fontbook revealed a number of duplicate fonts - ot Verdana, interestingly enough -  which I have now resolved. I then switched all text to Trebuchet MS, and everything reverted to normal. I can live with Trebuchet.
This problem appeared on the same day (before or after I wasn't sure) I installed MS Office. Could this have caused the problem?
Thanks for your prompt reply, explanation and solutions.

  • UTF8 character set conversion for chinese Language

    Hi friends,
Would like to some basic explanation on UTF8 feature, what does it help while converting the data from chinese language.
Would like to know what all characters this UTF8 will not support while converting from chinese language.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ramya Nomula

Not exactly sure what you are looking for, but on MetaLink, there are numerous detailed papers on NLS character sets, conversions, etc.
Bottom line is that for traditional Chinese characters (since they are more complicated), they require 4 bytes to store the characters (such as UTF-8, and AL32UTF8). Some mid-eastern characters sets also fall in this category.
Do a google search on "utf8 al32utf8 difference", and you will get some good explanations.
    e.g., http://decipherinfosys.wordpress.com/2007/01/28/difference-between-utf8-and-al32utf8-character-sets-in-oracle/
Recently, one of our clients had a question on the differences between these two character sets since they were in the process of making their application global. In an upcoming whitepaper, we will discuss in detail what it takes (from a RDBMS perspective) to address localization and globalization issues. As far as these two character sets go in Oracle, the only difference between AL32UTF8 and UTF8 character sets is that AL32UTF8 stores characters beyond U+FFFF as four bytes (exactly as Unicode defines UTF-8). Oracle’s “UTF8” stores these characters as a sequence of two UTF-16 surrogate characters encoded using UTF-8 (or six bytes per character). Besides this storage difference, another difference is better support for supplementary characters in AL32UTF8 character set.
You may also consider posting your question on the Globalization Suport forum which pertains more to these types of questions.

  • Downloading a single rule set out of N rule sets.

    HI All,
We have defined 4 Rule sets for one particular system. Out of these one is the global rule set. Now, my requirement is to have oe more rule set, with 80% rules from global and then add the rest 20% myself. Would like to know if there is any way we can achieve this efficiently, other than creating manually all the 80% rules from GLOBAL rule set.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Hersh

    HI Jose,
Well what you guided was perfectly fine an true in case of making changes to GLOBAL rule set. But any idea how we can make a new rule set out of the custom rule set i have already made.
I have , in all 4 rule sets present at the moment in GRC - GLOBAL, CUST -1,2 and 3. Now, my requirement is to have a copy of CUST1 into new rule set CUST4, and I manually later on need to update CUST4 for some more risks in it. The problem i am facing is whenever i download the existing rule sets, it is not giving me an option to download just CUST1, but all of four rule sets get downloaded together. Whereas, i need just a copy of CUST1. Any ideas on this?

  • [python] setting a variable in a loaded module from the main script

    Hi,
I have have two python scripts, one generally controlling my desktop wallpaper, the other downloads the APOD picture from the net and sets it as my wallpaper.
At the moment I can get the wallpaper script to load the apod script as a module to use its functionality.
The problem comes when I try to get the module to recognise variables set from the parent script:
I have both scripts using the variable  'verbose' to control how much output is printed, (which can be set from the command line options).
How do I get the 'verbose' variable in the imported module to be the same as the variable set by the script?
I can get it into an imported function using a keyword assignment when called, 'download(verbose=options.verbose)', but this is forgotten when other functions are called.
I have also tried making it a global variable.
I assume it is because I am importing the module and setting the default value before the main script sets its value, but I cant see a way round this.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
