Making a .zip doubles files when Windows opens it

So I just found out that when I make a .zip using the 'compress x items" service and then someone uses winzip to open the file, it duplicates them and creates two folders - one of which is full of duplicate non-files. What's going on here and how can I fix this so that what I see when I unzip the file is what PC users see?

actually I don't know. Someone told me that the second folder was called "meta [something]" and was filled with what looked like duplicates but were unreadable. I think I read somewhere when looking into this that OS X makes this meta information when compressing files that contain icons and whatnot.
BUT, I tried that zip program and it seemed to work, but I haven't been able to check it yet. Also the file size was about 5 megs larger (which isn't that big of a deal, but I thought interesting to note).

I suspect if you're trying to open a file in 08 that's been opened in 09 the file has been updated to 09 and will not open in 08.

I have a file with attachments (images and videos) which I can see and open when i open the file in windows xp by clicking on paper clip icon on left but I can't see these files when i open the same file on a windows 8 computer in adobe reader touch. ML: No longer one can enlarge icon size in file dialog window (open, save)

There is this useful document preview used for displaying the file icons. This is important when I open PDF and image files. But in the file dialog window (open, save) the is no more the option to enlarge the size of the icons in icon view. Large icons are most import even on opening files, so I get a nice and detailled preview to choose the right file. But especially in the file dialog window the option has gone to set the icon size! What a mess! This makes no sense. Cannot use large icons (previews) where I need them most.

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

How to solve Firefox keep accessing Program Files when I open it?

How to turn off a CS6 automatically opening a copy of a particular AI file when I open it

I must have clicked on something unintentionally... When I open this one CS6 file, automatically an additional copy appears on the screen too. It only does it to this one file.

You could set one window to outline mode and the one to preview mode and then don't need to switch the view when tracing an image. Or work in detail in one window and see the complete image in the other.

Why won't Quicktime 7.4.1 play .wmv files when Windows Media Player will?

I am running OS 10.4.11 on a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002. When I try to play .wmv files, the following message appears: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." However, I can play such files using Windows Media Player. I have installed Quicktime 7.4.1. That hasn't helped.

its a scheduler to be run on tomcat where we interact
with the running batch files and can't be changed.A scheduler in Tomcat? Why run a scheduler in an application server?

I tried to execute the batch file from servlet it
runs , but i see the cmd.exe in windows task manager
and need a dos box open.
Any ideas?If you need a DOS box open then you need a signed-on user. So here's my patch:
1. Write an application that listens for messages from this Tomcat scheduler, and when it receives those messages it does something in a DOS box.
2. Have somebody sign on to the server and run that application.
3. Change the Tomcat scheduler to send messages to that application instead of trying to actually run it.
It's up to you what kind of messages you should send. There are plenty of choices.

How do I stop Dreamweaver from updating the Test server copy of a file when I open the local file?

The subject says it all. Every time I open a file, Dreamweaver connects to the testing server and uploads the local file to the test server.
I want to stop this behaviour. It's annoying!

My testing server is IIS running on my local machine.
The "local" copy of the file is actually on a remote share. I have the test server copy open in Notepad++. The two files are identical save for on extra line in the copy on the testing server. When I open the "local" copy in Dreamweaver, it shows me that some file activity is being done, and then Notepad++ tells me the file has changed and do I want to reload it. If I do, that extra line vanishes.
When I check the file activity log, it shows that the file activity is complete.
I haven't mentioned the production server because it doesn't seem to be affected, but we do have one.

PM 7.0 SP2 Pagemaker Corrupts files when it opens them

I work in the IT department at a hospital and the hard drive failed in our Print Shops computer. After reinstalling all the programs I'm having problems with page maker 7.0 whenever I open a document with it (from a networked drive) it corrupts the file and page maker crashes. That user's manager also has page maker and can open the files without a problem (before the first computer corrupts them). We had problems with Xp sp3 and in design/page maker so we have it running Sp2 so that shouldn't be an issue and I have tried reinstalling pagemaker and that didn't help anything. Anyone have any ideas that I can try to get this working correctly?

I just tried that approach, I copy pasted the file onto the desktop and it did not work, when it opened it just gave me a dialog box telling me that the file was not closed successfully the last time it was used. the file opens fine on another computer we have thats running pagemaker so I do not understand why it is getting this error.

Finder not showing files when I open folder

A folder on my external hard drive which I was just editing/ doing some file organization with,
contains 60gb of data.
Lots of files and folders in it.
For no apparent reason,
it is now showing nothing in it when I open it,
Still says size is 60gb, but when I open it, the files do not show.
What is going on?
I need to work on these files.
If you can help me with this, it would a huge help.

[Please note, the plugin I mention is NOT a finder substitute. It is a plugin, and merely gives the finder tabs.

I shouldn't have mentioned it, it is superfluous info.
I dragged and dropped files using finder, that's all that needed to be said really.
It would obviously make no sense to ask questions about finder if I was not using finder.
Okay, I have to say, this is incredibly strange :
After comparing the two separate drives,
it seems I DID actually move the files to another folder [and forgot / was unsure of this],
however, the info box still says the original folder I mention is 60gb, with one file [which does not appear when I open it]
and finder is not displaying the increase in size in the folder [I'll call it folder 2] I moved the files to.
I wonder if I delete the original folder, are the sub-folders I moved to folder no.2 going to be deleted?
Are they still somehow connected to the original folder?
I was moving things around to try and merge all my files and folders into one folder [folder no.2]

Why does RCS prompt me to check out the .XPJ file when I open RoboHelp HTML?

We just upgraded from X3 to X5 and began using RoboSource
Control. We currently have a dedicated server machine and 1 client
machine (we'll be adding 3 more client machines once I resolve all
issues with this one). I have working folders set up on each
machine so I can open the Help projects with RoboHelp HTML.
The issue here is that I often receive the following prompt
in a dialog box when I open a Help project in RH HTML:
"To add version control information to this project, the
files in the list below need to be checked out from version
control. Do you want to check out these files?" (The only file
listed is the .XPJ file.)
I only seem to receive this message after I have opened that
particular Help project on the other PC. E.g., I open Help project
A on the Server. If I close it, I can re-open the Help project on
that machine multiple times without receiving the message. However,
if I then open Help project A on the client machine, I'll get the
prompt to check out the XPJ file. If I check it out, I can then
re-open the Help project on that machine multiple times without
receiving the message. Of course, if check in the XPJ file from the
client machine, I'll get the prompt on the Server machine to check
it out the next time I go to open it up from there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was prompted to check out the
XPJ for one of our Help projects this morning. I clicked
No (to NOT check out the XPJ file from the database), then
selected the
File Status tab, right-clicked on the XPJ file, selected
Show Differences... and discovered that the XPJ file in the
database had the following version control related text, whereas
the XPJ file in the working folder on my SERVER machine did not
(the working folder copy on my CLIENT machine matched the file in
the database):
Note: This code appears between a <miscproperties> line
and a <CompileOptions> line (both XPJ files had these two
lines).

I have copied my iTunes library to my time capsule. I am trying to point the iTunes to use the file within the time capsule but it does not show up. However I see the file when i open it thought the finder. Please assist.

No I have not watched a video to move iTunes.
You are trying to convince me that the video is correct.. but you are having issues..
I tend to consider Apple's documentation superior .. not that they always get it right.
If it doesn't work we need more info.
Is this Mavericks?
Is the youtube video using Mavericks.. ?? If not then I suspect your problem is due to poor networking in Mavericks.
Ensure you follow the rules for SMB networking..
All names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Try manually mounting the hard disk in Finder via Go, Connect to Server.. make sure the TC is mounted before you try to connect to the library.
You will have constant problems because the TC is unsuitable for iTunes.

Double click new window opens

Hello everybody yesterday i uninstalled internet explorer from my system and since than when i open a folder it opens in a new window.Any idea how to solve it?

Do you see just the list of inbox emails? If so, drag upwards the small . in the centre of the bottom bar of Mail's window to reveal the preview area. Then a slected email can be read there.
