Making all Filters work as Smart Filters
In CS3 you could change something to make all filters act like smart filters, even though they won't. I found this worked very well, now I have CS4 and would like to do the same but can't remember what to do to make it work. Anyone remember what to do?
It works in CS4 because I tried it before replying.
If, after doing the conversion, you go to the filter gallery, you will see which filters will work on the Smart Object image,
What are the add-ons you refer to? They may not work the same way.
Other than that you may be "misremembering" it or doing something wrong. Try it with a simple one-layer RGB 8 bit/channel image.

Learning Filtering: Smart Collections doesn't show all filtered images
I'm studying using Classroom In A Book so this test is small and only using the few images provided on the CIAB CD.
It says in the book that a Smart Collection is a selection filtered according to whatever rules you specify.
This is fine, but when I click the down arrow to the left side of the screen to see the listings under Smart Collections only some of the filtered images are shown. Images that I marked with red are shown as a Smart Collection. Images that I marked with Green (only one) does not show. A single image that I marked with five stars shows up as a Smart Collection, so it can't be that you need more than one item marked before it shows up as a Smart Collection. I made sure that I have highlighted the folder that contains the images (made it local) and that they are displayed in Library Mode and in Grid View.
What might cause some of the images I have applied filter attributes to not to show up in Smart Collections?

What does the book say? It says "a Smart Collection is a selection filtered according to whatever rules you specify." It means the rules you specify for you r smart collection. These are default "canned" lightroom collections. The first happens to have the rule "show labelled with red", the second — "show 5-star images". Images tha match the rules defined in a SC - are displayed in that SC.
Double-click any smart collection to see its rules.
To create a new smart collection with your own rules, click Library>New Smart Collection.
The Smart Collections I have were created without me double-clicking on anything. The book just told me to try out some of the ways to mark images and to try out each way. All of a sudden, Smart Collections appeared with some of the marked images. I was just wondering why it stopped at some but did not do them all? Also, what if I don't want Smart Collections at this point? How do I turn it off from making arbitrary Smart Collections without my prompting?
Don't get me wrong dorin_nicolaescu, I am a beginner and know nothing. You sound like you have a good grip on what Smart Collections are and how they work. What you have writtenis helpful, especially the part about "To create a new smart collection with your own rules, click Library>New Smart Collection."
I am still in a Fog about why Smart Collections starts collections on its own. -
Print all filters defined in a report
I would like to print all filters that are defined in a report using DeskI or WebI (both version XI R2 and 3.1)...
In DeskI there are 2 functions in the "Insert" > "Special Field" menu: "Global Filters" and "Query Prompt"; however, I also want to list all other filters that are set on tables in the report...
It seems that it's not possible in WebI / WebI Rich Client at all...

Can't access filter gallery. Checked the Show All Filters in preferences. Reinstalled. Still grayed out.
Make sure you document is in RGM 8 bit color depth. Some Filters do nt support hings like CMYK or Lat or 32 bit or 16 bit documents. See it Filter gallery is available when you open a new document RGB 8 bit color.

Are the app in the App Store country specific?
I was looking for the app "Salesforce Dragon" in the App Store to add to my iPad but could not find it and yes all filters where removed. When I make a search for "Salesforce" I come up with 42 app's while my counterpart in the USA comes up with 46 out of the same search. Does it make a difference if I'm in Canada?

GillesYes, it certainly makes a difference. A developer has complete control over where an app is released, and many developers choose to release an app only in certain countries. If Nuance has decided for some reason not to release that app in Canada, or has removed it for some reason, then it won't be available to you. You'll need to contact them and ask whether they have any plans to release the app in Canada in the near future.

Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter not working with SMART board all of a sudden?
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on getting my classroom's (I'm student teaching) SMART board connected to my macbook pro (13 in). Two days ago I tested the setup I had, Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, Mac OS X SMART software suite and it worked flawlessly. Today I try the setup and although the SMART board recognizes my macbook via usb, the projector does not display anything. System preferences does not even recognize the projector as an external monitor. When I plug in my Mini-DVI to VGA adapter (already attached to the VGA cord from the SB) the screen flashes black and goes back to normal. Official work from SMART technologies is there is no supported adapters for connecting a macbook to a SB but I have seen numerous threads about this setup working and like I said it was previously working fine. Any suggestions on what to try next? I was thinking of dual booting to an older version of OS X. Thanks.

10.9.1If your laptop is not connected to power (i.e., plugged in to a wall), try plugging it in. It is not uncommon for a laptop to send the VGA signal out with less power when it is on battery power. I've seen this fix this problem, at least, dozens of times.
Try connecting the VGA cable to your adapter while the smart board display is on THEN plug the adapter in to your computer.
Also, try connecting the VGA+Adapter to your mac before booting it (or connect the macbook to the vga cable and then reboot the macbook). I've seen this work with macbooks using vga on projectors (or other external displays running through longer cables or crestron/extron/whatever switching equipment) many many times too.
If these fail, get your campus AV (or IT) people involved. We have often found that a damaged cable or long run needing amplification will work with some computers but not with others. It could be that the cable running from the smart board is somewhat sketchy.
Also, have you attempted to connect your macbook to any other display since starting to have the issue? A bad dongle (dp to vga adapter) isn't rare. I have a bad one sitting on my desk at this very moment.
One last thing you can try, this works for some:
Shut of the mac
Connect it to the smart board (i.e, connect the cables)
Turn on the mac and then close the lid
This *may* boot the computer on the external dispaly (smart board)
Open the lid before it comes to the login screen.
Hopefully one of these suggestions helps. -
I set up iPhoto v9.6 to copy items to library. Now I would like to change it to not copy. Do I have to start completely over? I have 106GB of photos and tags in my library. Will I lose all that work? Originally I thought by copying items to library I would be making an exact copy of my originals and that would serve as a duplicate or backup copy. My originals are on my EHD#1 and my iPhoto library is on my EHD#2. But now I realize that I can not view my iPhoto library unless my EHD#2 is connected to my computer (duh!!) So now I would like to NOT copy times to library and I want to have the library in the Pictures folder on my laptop HD. So I guess my question is do I have to start completely over? Is there some way to salvage all the work I've done so far?
Yes you would have to start over from scratch.
But you should really think this through very carefully. Experienced users do not recommend iPhoto used in this mode, and with very good reasons. Among them
1. It's more work for exactly no gain
2. It's unreliable - especially - when the library is on one volume and the photos are on another. One change to the path between the files and the library and you'll be reconnecting every photo in the Library back to the database, one by one.

I want to use my Time Capsule as a central 'hub/hard-drive' in order to keep all my working files in one place. I then plan to use my laptops/desktops as peripheral devices for editing and creation of these files. Is it possible? To create a personal cloud?

I am looking to have all my files in one place as i am hopelessly disorganised. I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)

As well, Corel uses "in-house" routines to publish PDF from applications; so, no use or reliance by Corel on anything of Adobe's.
Yes, if you have Acrobat XI Standard or Pro installed you can to the traditional "file - print" and in the print dialog you can select the Adobe PDF virtual printer to print to PDF.
(But not with Adobe Reader as Reader does not provide, in and of itself, any means of creating PDF -- Reader is your PDF viewer.)
From what you have written it appears that you've an issue with your Corel product's featues; so, best is to visit Corel's customer support for the product.

If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion, the drivers are downloaded from within Bootcamp Assistant. If you are running Snow Leopard the drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk.

Viewing ALL Open Work Items and Corresponding Approvers in System
Is there a workflow report in ECC that displays ALL open work items in the system at any given time and their approvers that need to take action?

SWIA - You can give a status of the workitem ( Ready , Inprocess ...........), workitem type (dialog....)
in the selection criteria and also the time then you can find all the open workitems.
And also you can check Header table SWWIHEAD it includes all the information related to workflows
but this is a lenghty process need to process object type and need to refer so many attributes.
best way is need to create one report make use of it. -

Have you tried reinstalling Microsoft Word? Have you tried reinstalling Office? Have you run any updates recently for Microsoft Office? There was one that came out this week. You may wish to ask this question over at the Microsoft Word forums, there's a good chance you'll get a better answer as well. i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files,ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?
i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

i synch my ipad to my windows computer (itunes) so the data could still be stored. the app is called notebook + free i was planning on purchasing the pro version whcih is why i was clearing out my notebooks i only needed two and it was the two i deleted. they changed place as i selected the notebooks so it selecvted the wrong two. basically i desperatly need it back its got all my work on from college 4 months. i could update the app or i could buy the full version on my computer and hope it sends all the data across but i afraid if i synch it, the setting on my ipad will apply to the computer app and therefore delete the notebook i need completely...i dont know what yo do, is there anyway of setting your ipad back in time like you can with a computer ?? please help me
If you backed up your iPad to your computer, before you deleted the notebook, the data would still be in the backup. You can restore from that backup. But before you do, go into iTunes and make sure you have turned off Automatically Backup your devices when connected to iTunes. I don't have iTunes on my work computer, so you'll need to find this in Settings > Devices (google it if you need more guidance). Then connect your iPad to your computer, with iTunes open and once your iPad is recognized, you can right click it and choose restore from backup and a list the available backups will show up. Choose the backup you know contains the notebook and you should be good to go from there.

I just bought a new iMac and used the Migration Assistant to transfer my files. Initially, all was working, but now a week later, I get the message that the application manager is missing, and I cannot get Photoshop and InDesign to launch. For my personal use, I did not a need to join Creative Cloud. Have you any suggestions for a work-around?
