  • Acrobat PDF FIle Format is having difficulties...

I've got an error that appears pretty reliably. I open a multi-page PDF file in Illustrator, choosing one page to edit. I save that page with a new name as a PDF file, and that works fine. Now, if I edit the file at all and save it again, I get "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Bad parameter." And there's no way to save the file.
If I close without saving and open the single-page PDF file again, it usually behaves well. But any time I get that message I lose all of the unsaved changes and have to repeat them.
I'm using CS3, version 13.0.2. OS 10.4.10. Any assistance is appreciated...
    Rodney

I've had the same problem in various versions of Illustrator on the Mac, up to and including CS3. Based on the previous comment, this appears to happen only if your Illustrator document starts life as a generic PDF file. So this is my solution (which worked today for me).
Make sure all layers are visible and unlocked.
Copy all your artwork to the clipboard (Select -> All then Edit -> Copy, or cmd-A then cmd-C)
Create a new document with the same dimensions as your original one.
Show the layers palette, and choose "Paste Remembers Layers" from the popup menu.
Paste your artwork into the new document (Edit -> Paste or cmd-V)
    Save the new document.
You should be able to edit and re-save the new document whenever needed after that, although you may find that the file is larger than the original one.

  • Can't open Acrobat pdf files in document library - SBS 2011

I've uploaded some Acrobat PDF files to a document library in the companyweb (SharePoint 2010 Foundation website) on SBS 2011. But if I click on one of them in the standard view, acrobat opens and displays a message “The URL you have provided could not be
reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable.” I'm using Acrobat Reader XI 11.0.2 and Internet Explorer 10.
I have tried a few suggested solutions, eg to edit the docicon.xml file to include <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="AdobePDF.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>, check that the WebClient service is running, and
Use Remote Interfaces permission is set on the SharePoint site. But no luck.
I don't know if this is a problem with SBS 2011, or Acrobat, or Internet Explorer. Interestingly the pdf opens OK in Chrome. It looks like it is trying to edit the document instead of open it in the acrobat reader.
    Anyone know of a solution?

I have found one possible solution. In my case the site was brought into Sharepoint Foundation 2010 as a migrated site from a previous SBS installation.
The site was imported as http://servername and the IIS site had a host header with companyweb so that users could browse to it, and all references to the site were as http://companyweb
All my attempts to open the PDFs were using the http://companyweb URL.
I was researching the issue and had gone through everything, but one thing got me thinking when some sites suggested that I look at the permissive or strict browser file open settings. I looked at the web application and it was set to http://servername in
the Central Administration site. I thought hmm let's try opening the Adobe PDF docs with that URL instead, and it worked!
So I changed the web application URL to http://companyweb and tried again and hey presto it's now working.
I really hope this helps someone, it took me a good couple of hours of my day researching to find the solution here.
Some extra info: we are using Adobe Reader 11.0.6 with IE11. Testing with Firefox worked, but that opens the document by downloading it locally and then using Adobe Reader. fix The above actually resolves the problem, it's nothing to do with permissive or strict
file open settings, I set the SP site back to strict and PDFs still open fine.

  • Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website

Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website. This only started happening after the latest update of Firefox was installed. Do you have a fix?

    Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").
    Good Luck :D

  • Problem printing Acrobat.pdf files get a VMerror error. Upgraded to Mac OS X10.10 Yosemite

I really need to be able to print Acrobat.pdf files and printer window indicates pdf is being sent to the printer. Printed a test page and Word documents but not Acrobat.pdf.
Test page indicated I have Driver Name: HP338_6PPD and Driver Version: 19.8.. I have had this printer for over 10 years and it has performed very well.  Other than I can't scan anymore it has never failed to print a document.  Does Adobe need to address this problem?

Welcome back to the community, @JAJ70
I read about the "VMerror" error you are seeing when attempting to print PDF files. Although this may be an issue with Adobe, I do have some links and suggestions for you to look into.
I would suggest a power reset:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
I am unsure of which printer you have however, check for a firmware update:

  • Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted.

I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS5 on a PC (Windows XP)
When I try to open one particular file, I get the following message:
"Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted."
I've seen some discussions about this error msg previously, but only when using CS4, and everyone was referring to some type of "suitcase fusion", which I am not using.
Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated

I created the file in Illustrator CS5 and saved it as an .ai file.
It does not open in Acrobat or Reader... not sure what other programs you think I should try?
It's basically a bunch of lines and some text... the text is a Font that we use here at the MTO (FHWA)
This is the first time I've ever had this problem.
The weird thing is if I try to open the file in Illustrator by clicking "File", then "Open..." and then highlight the file in the "Open Dialog Window", I can see a preview of the file.  But then when I finally click "open" in the dialog window, I get that error message?

  • Why does my exported mp4 file look so bad when it is viewed in adobe acrobat pdf file?

I have embedded an mp4 (exported from premier pro cs6) video file into adobe acrobat and its not sharp viewing of my video anymore. It was a sharp video when viewed in both premier and the exported mp4 files, but once embedded in acrobat it looses sharpness, anyone know what the problem might be? Could my settings  in adobe acrobat be wrong? I would think the problem is in adobe acrobat since the exported mp4 video views crisp and clear before its embedded, any ideas to assure sharpness with my video after its embedded into the adobe acrobat pdf?
Hoping someone has an answer to this, I think my problem might lie within the adobe acrobat settings????
or maybe there is no way around and I need to expect this video not to look as crisp and clear after I embed it into acrobat.... as it is when viewing in premier pro, mp4, etc.????
Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.
Someone Im sure is taking theri exported premier files and embedding them to create pdf files? Would love to hear if anyone has encountered this issue.
Thanks so much in advance for any help offered.

    Hi Dave,
I just completed a test and comparison between the two PDF's,
compared the file as you suggested with the floating option and changing setting to actual size of the original premier pro / mp4 file size and
the old pdf that did not utilize the floating and file size option.
I do notice a slight difference. The PDF with the floating window with the match of the media clips original dimensions appears to be crisper.
I will be having the final pdf document set utilizing this method for the embeded mp4 movie and hope that the department doing this (next stage of this job) will agree that this is better to use your steps to embed all the video files into a pdf.
Thanks so much for your time.
Hope you had a happy holiday, and hope you have a very happy and healthy new year.
    Thanks, Amy

  • Handle the "No matches were found." when doing a search in Adobe Acrobat PDF file.

I have written an Excel spread sheet and using visual basic coding in my macro can open an as needed PDF file, search for a paragraph number as copied from the spread sheet, capture the page in the PDF file it is found on and paste the "pagefound" back into my Excel spreadsheet where desired. In some cases, however, Adobe Acrobat Professional XI reports back that "No matches were found."
Is there any way to handle the display of this message using Visual Basic Coding so that I can set my pagefound field to 1 or -1 to tell me that the paragraph number does NOT exist in the file?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the quick reply. However, I am NOT trying suppress the message.  I am tying to handle the message.  In other words, I want the message to appear when required BUT I want to be able to try and CAPTURE the fact so that I can specify the page as being non-existent (such as entering a -1 for the page).  Is there any way in Adobe or VBA coding in Excel to recognize that the message is displaying but not stopping it, just recognizing that it is appearing and handle it?  Thanks in advance.

  • How can I keep word"s "acrobat pdf maker" from appearing ?

logically, all of the toolbars items (view menu) in Word should only appear if you ask for them
since nothing at microsoft seems to be logical, the "adobe pdf maker" toolbar appears constantly when you open a file so that you then have to throw it away to keep it from using up and cluttering the screen
I have tried everything I know to get rid of this pesky thing - any suggestions?

    Hi, Joseph.
You haven't stated the version of MS Office you are using, but the following instructions, written with Office 2004 in mind, will also work for Office v.X.
How to remove the PDFMaker toolbar in MS Office applications
The PDFMaker toolbar launcher is saved in an application-specific directory for each Office application. The general format of the directory path is:
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/office_application
Therefore, to remove the PDFMaker toolbar from MS Word, trash the PDFmaker file found in the directory:
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/Word/
Do likewise for Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Note that Adobe Acrobat automatically checks the state of its features — like PDFMaker — when it is launched. Depending on the version of Acrobat you have installed, it may try to replace these files after you have deleted them. Adobe Acrobat has a "Do not ask again" option if it offers to "repair" these files
Note that the same instructions work under Office v.X.
    Good luck!

  • Making an Accessible PDF file from MS PPT

I have a MS PPT file that I've converted to a PDF file. When I run the "Make Accessible" from the Action Wizard some of the tags disappear for the slides that contain only an image even though I've added alt text to the image. When I preview the file using the Touch Up Reading Order the graphic on the slide will show that it is a figure with alt text but after I run the Action Wizard and view the slide again in the Reading Order there is nothing there and the tag for that slide is gone so it is completely skipped.
Is it safe to assume that running the Make Accessible on a PDF file created from a PPT is just not going to work?

I'm using PPT 2010 and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I'm using the "Create PDF" feature from the Acrobat ribbon in PPT with a modified settings that I've created for all of the PDF files I make. I'm convinced that this has something to do with PPT and Adobe since I don't have any problems using the Action Wizard with PDF files converted from Word. In fact I took the problem images from PPT and copied them into a Word file, converted to PDF and ran the action wizard and had no problems with the tags disappearing from the images. I think we're going to publish the PPT version online with a PDF companion. I can't spend any more time on  this. Thank you.

  • PDf files not appearing after page loads

On several different sites, I've recently experienced a dark (black) screen after trying to view pdf files.
I cannot view any pdf files at present. The relevant page(s) seem to load and then the screen goes black. Any suggestions welcome.

What happens if you right click then Save as...
Or right click on the link to Download them & view with preview?
How about a link to see if it's common?
Have you tried more than one Browser?

I cannot open Excel without "all" my PDF files rolling onto the screen.  What can I do?

Are you claiming that you double click excel to launch it and a bunch of pdfs open on your screen?
If not explain exactly what steps you are doing and what you see.

  • Open Acrobat pdf file with Pages

    Hi,
I've read a lot of information about using pdf files with the ipad. I purchased goodreader but I'm not happy with the way text is rendered, it is blurry. When I open the same file with Safari, it looks perfect. Sent an email and I'm waiting for a response.
I was reading about Apple Pages for the ipad. Will this open pdf files or just export to pdf files? Thanks.
    Regards-Michael G.

I was reading about Apple Pages for the ipad. Will this open pdf files or just export to pdf files?
Pages is a word processor, not a pdf reader. It can only export to pdf.

  • FireFox 3.6.13 Locks up Microsoft XPS Document Writer, PDF995 (created Acrobat pdf file output) stops printing mid document, and Internet Explorer works fine

Microsoft XPS Document Writer locks up and PDF995.com (creates acrabat pdf file) stops printing after the second page from this site http://super.nova.org/DPR/CinematicApproach/. This was a Windows 7, 64 bit machine that had the issue. Microsoft Internet explorer works fine and printed the document with Internet Explorer.
The machine that displayed FireFox printing issues was a up to date Win 7, 64 bit, Quad Core, 8 Gig Ram. Don't really have a question just reporting a FireFox Bug.

    Hi,
do you have a solution for the problem? We have actually a similar problem with locked IE8 when using a zoom factor > 100% (it's a customer WD4A).
